Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Delicious and inexpensive. Also got a ton of food. Great service. Only downside was waiting for our check...waiter thought he had given it to us already.

Had dinner there last night. Sat outside since it was a nice day and I was stuck indoors all day. Service wasn't too bad. Portions were good. Apps were pretty big. However, I really didn't get any flavor for the place. People were nice but maybe I was just overtired or something. I'd probably give them another chance when in area again.

I have driven by this place many times, and always say I need to try this place. So, when some friends said they were going to dinner there, and asked to meet up with them, I was excited. We were able to walk in and get seated right away. The salsa tasted really fresh, I couldn't stop once I started. It is a casual atmosphere. We were greeted immediately with our drink orders. The margaritas were tasty, but they were strong. The food looked really fresh when it came to the table. I ordered the fajitas grandes. They brought out the rice, beans, and guacamole, but the meat didn't come until 10 minutes later. Everyone at the table had their food while I just ate my rice and beans. Everything tasted pretty good, I would try it again in hopes that the fajitas wouldn't take as long.

Best pico de gallo in town. I order it take out every time I am entertaining at home. Its perfect with hummus and pita chips. Jesus is an awesome owner and offers a great authentic menu! Always a good experience.

Excellent mexican food, very friendy staff. I've been coming here since the key la isla opened its doors. I used to bring my family and they started our order as soon as they saw us. The owner Jesus died in a car accident recently. RIP Jesus you will be missed brother

A favorite spot for locals of all ages, La Isla is a comfortable environment with exceptional food. My favorites include the quesadilla rellena with chicken; a great dinner for less than $6. The chimichangas are wonderful, and definitely large enough to take home. The gaucamole is worth a trip itself. The staff of La Isla are genuinely friendly and always willing to get your order perfect. Don't worry about making special requests; they handle them with a smile. And did I mention the free WiFi? Yelp lists La Isla as not having take out, but they do. The entire menu is available, including the free chips and salsa. At night, La Isla boasts an impressive nightlife frequented by local bands. It leans toward a younger crowd, and the outdoor patio turns into a dance floor after 10pm. Definitely a great (and affordable) stop when you're visiting "the valley", as we say here. Don't miss out.

The mexican food at La Isla is pretty decent, considering where in the US it is. Coming from the Bay Area of California, it's hard to compare but I was excited to find this place on Yelp. Be warned- the house margaritas are terrible! It tasted like they use Gatorade for their sour mix. More importantly they used a well tequila called Montezuma, which is almost undrinkable. There are so many good-tasting, cheap tequilas on the market including El Jimador, El Cabrito, Milagro, Sauza, I'm at loss why anyone would use Montezuma as their well. Lesson learned- always inquire what tequila they use in your margarita- it can be a deal breaker! The service was good, chips and salsa were great.

Friendly and nice staff. Food was good I got the build your own taco. Haven't been there in a while so I'm not sure if they still have it. But went there with a large group of people we reserved a spot a few days before. Small seating but in the summer time they have outdoor seating as well.

Against my better judgment I decided to give this place a try, big mistake. I got the impression that the server didn't want to seat me at a booth being that I was dining alone. After placing my order I never saw my server again being that someone else brought it to the table, the food wasn't very hot, the steak in my burrito was tough, in short this was just a bad experience. Saw my server one last time after asking someone else to track him down for the bill. How people in Hermitage continue to pack the parking lot here is beyond me. Apparently they have no clue of good Mexican food or maybe they too will learn to avoid this place as well after visiting. If u want good Mexican food drive to Youngstown, Boardman, or Austintown but save yourself the disappointment of eating here.

Used to be a local favorite. Food, margaritas and service have all gone down hill as of late. Most of the good staff is gone.

Authentic Mexican food, friendly servers & bartenders... Plus u gotta love taco Monday, 75-cent tacos!

La Isla is ok - just ok. The service is sloooow. The food is average. The chicken (used in fajitas, tacos, burritos, etc) is rather bland. On the plus side, there are many flavors of margaritas and the salsa (served with chips) has a nice smokey and spicy kick to it. Since options are limited in this area, this place is worth a try.

friendly staff, fantastic food. after kayaking the beaver river we were hungry. when my date suggested stopping at the mexican place, i was a tad leery...there were no cars in the parking lot and we were in new castle (!). i just didn't expect anything good to come of it. since he was really in the mood for mexican i reluctantly agreed and i am so thankful i did. the salsa was incredible and the chips were above average, the guacamole was fresh and delicious. our meals were generously portioned and extremely reasonable in price. we left full and slightly sad that we were unable to order the fried ice cream, but vowing to return and save room next time. the second kayak trip down the beaver river added a boy who is 12 and he asked to go to la isla after hearing us talk about it. he is a huge eater (growing boys usually are) and loved everything he tried, plus was full at the end of the meal. that is a big deal for the picky diabetic! his dad and i had to split the fried ice cream because we still barely had room in our happy bellies, but we were thrilled with each bite. (oh, i should add that on the way out the boy was so happy with the place that he even agreed to pose for a picture with the life sized wooded statues that are by the door. his "no photo" phase means this is a more than massive compliment to the restaurant and our experience!) would give la isla more stars if i could.

I've got to admit, I didn't expect Mexican food to be great in a place like this - rural Western Pennsylvania. Fortunately I was wrong - the food here was impressively good. The first key was that when I walked in the door I knew I was in for an authentic Mexican meal as the workers were Mexican and would converse with each other in Spanish. Might sound dumb, but it's always a good sign. The food I've had here has all been great. The La Isla Especial - a fajita dish with beef, chicken, chorizo, and shrimp is one not to miss. The tamales are wonderful and you should not miss the a-la-carte Beef grilled tacos. They're made in the same style as the carne asada tacos you can find at all the incredible small tacquerias that line the West Coast. I'll keep going back to La Isla as long as working in the area.

La Isla has the most authentic Mexican food in the area. Most of the other places share the same menu that I would say is more Tex-Mex than Mexican. Having lived in Mexico, and marrying into a Mexican family I know authentic Mexican food, and La Isla is the only place in the Mahoning/Shanango Valley to get it. I ordered the carnitas, and they were as good as any I tried in Mexico. The rice, beans and salsa are all top rate as well. My wife had the enchiladas supremas and she said they were as good as any back home. The portions are extremely generous, even the kids portions are enough for an adult! The prices are reasonable and there is a good selection of beverages. The staff was friendly and efficient without being overbearing. I would highly recommend this place if you want to try authentic Mexican food without leaving the area.

Very good food and good prices. The salsa is excellent & I especially like the Don Luis nachos, the enchiladas, and the large mixed drinks.
