My wife and I went there for our 30th wedding anniversary. We wanted some place nice, but not that expensive. My brother recommended the place. My wife had the chicken marsala which was very tasty. I had the delmonico steak. Steak was a good portion, however, (to my taste) was a little more medium than the medium-well that I had ordered. Still, excellent. My waitress was the bomb and even went the extra mile to bring us a small sample of the "marsala" to taste to see if we wanted to order that. Total for the two of us, drinks-tax-tip $50

Overall, a really solid place. I would come back again. The decor was rustic and had a mix of Irish pub too. I had the filet and it was cooked well and also seasoned very well. The pretzel bites came with this garlic butter cheese that was great. The cole slaw could've used a little more sauce, but it too was good.

Have been here numerous times having lived in the area for years. It is one of the nicer places in the area compared to most of the chain restaurants and is part of the Springfield Restaurant Group. Atmosphere is intimate but casual at the same time. A room is available that is private from the main dining area which I believe can be reserved. A full bar with bar seating also available. Service has always been friendly and timely. The food is usually about average in my opinion. I most recently ordered the shrimp and grits which was supposed to be tiger shrimp. This was unfortunately not the case. The shrimp was also uncomfortably over seasoned. The grits were supposed to be cheddar grits. However, they were actually just plain unseasoned grits with shredded cheese melted on top. This meal was unfortunately a major disappointment that I would not recommend. I believe a better choice would be a steak or burger here if you eat red meat. The rest of the family had this and were pleased with their meals. I also do love the appetizer pretzel basket which is 3 fried pretzels served with cheese and hot fudge! I get it all the time and highly recommend it if you like soft pretzels. Overall a decent choice for a good and reasonably priced meal. I will be back as I have come here for years.'

This place has an updated menu, but it seems IMO that the prices have increased, but quality and quantity have decreased. I rarely go here anymore. I've pretty much taken it out of our dining rotation of local places.

I've came here a few times. I just don't like it. The staff was really rude, and the food didn't taste that great.

Normally I would rate four stars. Tonight they were a little off their game. I really wish half stars were an option. I would prefer tonight to be a 3.5. Wife got the Stuffed Chicken Marsala. Her normal for here. Pasta and chicken both very good. Normal for me is Steak and Sweet Potato. Today I tried something different. I had the Southwestern Chicken. Chicken was good, I liked the queso sauce was a nice touch. However the vegetable medley was raw. I think I will stick to my norm next time. We visit here a few times a year. A short site on some veggies is bound to happen once and a while on a busy night.... We will be back again.

The food was terrible. The chicken was almost done... And the kids grilled chicken was gross no seasoning. At least they got the French fries right. Salad and rolls were good too...(sad)... Overall... I have not clue why anyone goes there....

All I can saw is wow. We came into town for a funeral. For 3 days, I and my family met at dinner time after visiting other relatives, etc. Each night, we had a large party - from 6-12 people. I'm sorry at the moment, I can't remember the hostesses name that helped us. She was sooooooo helpful, even when the restaurant was packed. I'm not sure why it only has 3 stars. Every night, everyone in our party loved their food. From fried fish sandwiches, to hamburgers, to sweet fries, beer flights, peanut butter pie, hoho cake. I just can't say enough. The waitress allowed us to get separate checks and kept track of everything each night. All dishes were very well prepared. Thank you so much.

The Hickory Bar & Grille in Hermitage, PA, is part of the Springfield Restaurant Group that operates several restaurants in northwest Pennsylvania and one in northeast Ohio. One of my favorites is the Springfield Grille in Mercer that is a high tier establishment. We have visited that establishment several times and were always extremely pleased with the food, service, and ambiance. Recently on Saturday evening, we were in the general area and thought we would give the Hickory Bar & Grille a try as first time customers with high expectations. This restaurant consists of a large bar area and a separate large dinning room with a nice but unremarkable décor. It also has a "patio" that we had expected to be an outdoor area but found that it was totally enclosed and wholly unacceptable because smoking was allowed there. Although we didn't have reservations we were informed that we could be seated immediately. We opted to go to the bar where we were served well-prepared, very modestly priced drinks. Subsequently, we were seated in the main dining room. We started by sharing a shrimp cocktail that consisted of four nice-sized shrimp. Although for $6 it was inexpensive, the taste was a bit off. For her entrée my wife had the tilapia that she found to be bland. I had a cup of French onion soup and a six-ounce hamburger. Both the soup and the burger were tasty and satisfying. Our bar service was excellent, but the waitress attending our table was inexperienced. The Hickory Bar and Grille is a family restaurant. It has a friendly atmosphere and is recommended for simple fare and good drinks at reasonable prices.

My coworkers and I came here after we finished up work. It was really early for dinner. There weren't a lot of people there and the place had very dim lighting. I ordered the Fire-Grilled Chicken Breast ($10.99) which came with soup or salad and a choice of a side. I chose the potato soup and coleslaw. The potato soup was probably the only thing I ate that was actually good. The Fire-Grilled Chicken Breast was very dry and I thought there would be something with it like sauce but nope. I don't think my meal was worth the price. Everything else was just okay.

I was prepared to give this place 3 stars... but the after show, which started at 3 am in my hotel room, knocked them down a couple of stars. The place is rather nice on the outside, and the inside is done more like a chain restaurant than a local place. However, they do an OK job with it. Service was a little slow, mostly because it seemed like they were understaffed, as the bartender was acting as a bartender, server and host. He tried his best though. I ordered the Hickory Salad, which included mixed greens, olives, tomato, fries, and cheese. Super underwhelmed. 75% of it was iceberg lettuce. I picked all of the mixed greens out, which left a large portion of the salad. I next ordered the smoked turkey reuben, which was quite good. However there were some inedible hard pieces of the turkey.. which makes me now think they may have just nuked it. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that was the culprit of my late night fun as that was the dominant taste. I wouldn't go back. The atmosphere was nice, but the food was just blah. Definitely better options in the area.

Ate here today and everyone at our table had to send something back to the kitchen. Thus a grave disappointment and it has gone down hill since we were last there. The sweet potatoes while huge were not cooked and hard. The pecan and hazelnut chicken while amazing in flavor first time had a hair in it and second time was so hard to cut with a stake knife that I had to ask someone to cut my dinner for me. Needless to say after a few bites it was more exhausting to eat and chew than worth it. Also the exterior crust was mushy. The kids food came out so cold they complained - which is very rare - they will eat just about anything cold. The special pasta had so much sauce it filled half the bowl when empty with the excess sauce. Balance is certainly a word not understood. The staff was half attentive. The worst part was that with all the problems I would have expected some sort of apology - but nothing - I guess you have to be rude and obnoxious for them to care. It's been a year since we have been there and it will be years before we waste our time again.

Went here on Jan 19th for dinner with my fiance's family. It was nice and warm. I hate when you go to a restaurant and its cold in there. Turn on the heat! They have a fire place and a very clean bathroom (like a lounge). Service was quick and efficient. A little slow getting the bill but everything else was great. The caesar salad and chicken parm were excellent. One of the best chicken parms I've had. Fresh bread. Everyone else was very happy with their meals also. Good variety for everyone.

OK... Feeling a little snobbish on this one, though I suspect at this locality, this probably falls under the banner of fine dining. Made me think of a locally owned Outback Steakhouse in that it's been a while since I've been to a restaurant where the main event was a big plate of meat and potatoes. I had the lamb chops, which were actually pretty moist and flavorful. The red-skinned mashed potatoes were OK; the zucchini was just plain uninspiring! They had a wine list of, shall we say, of limited proportions (just not quite a wine and cheese sort of place) and our server was borderline surly in her efforts for efficiency. Overall - a decent eatery, but I don't think I would make it a gourmet vacation destination.

Excellent all the way around! Great food, great service, good prices-I guess everything can't be great. My wife and I drive to Hermitage from Girard, OH every week for dinner, not because there aren't good places to eat in the Youngstown area, but because Hickory Grille is that good. Service is excellent, whether you're sitting at the bar, on the patio, or at a table. Reva in the bar area is an excellent server! A previous review complained about the sweet potatoes. Don't listen to them. They are the bomb and one of the reasons I love going there. They are huge, like the size of your shoe, and are always cooked perfectly. The skin just falls off, and they are caramelized just right. Salads, sandwiches and steaks are always good-love the Hickory Salad with chicken. Excellent fries and do yourself a favor, order a basket of pretzels for an appetizer, and get the fudge for dipping. It sounds odd but is so good. You won't be disappointed! The servers, hostesses and managers are all attentive, very consistently great service!

Food is ok, prices are high for what you get, but not a bad atmosphere....throw it all together and you get a decent night out.

The Hickory Grille is one of the nicest restaurants in the Shenango Valley. The food is consistently good, but not, "wow! this is amazing!" great. The French Onion soup is some of the best I've ever had though. Definitely try that! The service is usually pretty slow, so be prepared for an hour or so for dinner.

We were looking for a place to get some decent food and drink while stopping for the night on a roadtrip from NJ to OH. The place was clean and busy and smelled delicious from the outside. My partner in crime and I sat at the bar (warning - sitting near the kitchen end of the bar can get a bit noisy due to their busyness, so I'd recommend you sit further down the bar). The food: The menu was extensive, but the smell of the ribs got us when we pulled in, so we both ordered 1/2 rack of ribs, baked potato and dinner salad. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone and loaded with sauce - just like I like them. We did notice that many people at the bar were ordering dessert - it seemed to be a big hit - but we weren't in the mood for anything sweet that night. Overall experience: The bartenders were great - they offered to let us try different tap beers so we could hone in on what we liked best. The customers were just as gracious - hats off to the nice couple that bought us a round (or 2) of drinks ;) We will definitely stop by again next time we're passing thru!

One of the better restaurants in an area that doesn't have much except for Italian places. Basic steaks, ribs, salads, burgers etc. Best option for a "date" or "nicer" meal.
