Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Combine Brothers puts on quite a spread. If you like Italian food - real Italian-American immigrant food like grandma Cione used to make - but somehow better - then this is your place! I've eaten at Combine's at least a dozen times, and I've never had a bad meal. The portion sizes are large - almost huge. You're gonna need a doggie bag, and you'll get another whole meal out of it. Their menu is focused on pasta, as you might expect. And they have a build-your-own kind of ordering. Choose your pasta noodle, choose your sauce, choose your extras. The choices are numerous. In fact, I don't even know what half the sauces are (there's explanations next to them). I almost always get the same thing because it is so darn good: baked ziti with traditional red sauce and crumbled sausage. Try it, you won't be disappointed. They have other entrees as well, including some very good pizza. It is thin crust oven fired style pizza. You can get all the standard toppings. All dinners also come with bread rolls. These aren't your ordinary rolls. They're hard crusted and about the size of a baby's head. They're fresh baked and delicious. Be careful though, you'll fill up on the bread without thinking because it is that good. You need to save room for the main course - it's gonna be big. No one leaves Combine Brothers' hungry. Sadly, I couldn't give them a full five stars. That's not because of anything to do with the food or service. Those two things are great. The atmosphere of the place is lousy. The decor is some kind of strange cheap industrial minimalist. There is diamond-plate steel on the floor for walk-ways. (That's the OSHA style diamond-plate, not the jewelry kind of diamond.) The tables are bolted to the floor, and all of the seating is made from heavy plywood with a coat of paint. (Can you say uncomfortable?) You can't rearrange the tables or seating at all, so it's not a good place for a group that wants to sit all together if you're over 6 people. The lights look like the ones you might find dangling from a wire in a Russian gulag. They have the protective metal cages over the bulbs - almost like you're in prison - or maybe an old steel mill. Also, its a busy place around dinner time and it is relatively small. So there's always a 40 minute wait on Friday and Saturday evenings, and the wait staff subtly pressures you into eating and leaving. So it's not a good place to go relax with a group of friends to catch up over dinner. The place doesn't have the relaxed "Come in, sit down, mange!" kind of Italian welcoming feel. Anyway, go and check it out. Your taste buds will thank you. Just ignore the lack of atmosphere and focus on the food.

Decent place to go in town. I go here a few times a year for a change, but I do think there is better Italian food in the area. Yes, the portions are huge, but so are the prices....remember...this is a PASTA...not Filet.... cost is about .75 cents for a pound wholesale?..and most dishes on the menu are about $15.00- $20.00 so I feel like you should have plenty of left over food if your paying $19.00 for linguine and clams in place that doesnt even have padding on the plywood painted booths...The kitchen also has no fryers & does not serve liquor..Like I said...its decent food....with casual atmosphere.

I have frequented Combine Brothers for years, and have always had a fantastic meal. Yes, you will receive an enormous portion of food and you will eat all of your leftovers later on because the food is that good. We usually stick to the same menu items, because they are too good not to. The carbonara is the best that I've ever had, and well worth the heart attack that I may suffer from eating it. The meatballs are flavorful and never dry. The pressed chicken sandwich with greens is great, too. We've ordered this a few times and the chicken is never dry, and the greens are always good. Not too salty or overpowering. The salad dressing is wonderful, and the rolls are huge. This is a carb lovers heaven. Great prices for the portions that you receive.

My first time there drove from Akron Ohio to meet my daughter there for her birthday. It was worth the trip and I will make it again. The meatballs and tomato sauce is amazing. The portion sizes were great, I have enough left over for lunch tomorrow.

Food was terrible, sauce watery, no wait just a 1/4 inch of water on the plate with out of the can tomatoes. When I complained to our server about it her reply was "we get complaints about that all the time, next time order a different sauce. Sorry there will not be a next time. seems like most of the good reviews go on about the size of portions, I don't want huge portions of lousy Italian food. Plenty of decent Italian restaurants in the area, save your money for one of them.

Sent and evening recently at Combine Brothers. Most of it waiting for a the server and the hostess. With the delay and the reviews for this place I had high hopes for the food even after the poor service. I found no redeeming quality to the food. It was priced well if it had been good, which it was not. Pasta was over cooked and the marinara was watery and lacking any significant flavor. It was a pasta dish I would expect for Eat n Park, not an italian grill. I think the portion size looks so big because you can't bring yourself to eat any of it. I will not be back.

You will not go home hungry! The portion size here is absolutely ridiculous. I can get about three meals out of my gnocchi. The salads and bread are enough to feed the whole family. I've gone here twice where one person has eaten an entire meal, and I'm still amazed! If you want good Italian food, and don't mind taking home a doggy bag, this place is for you

Yes the portions are huge, but you are still overpaying for mediocre sauces on boxed pasta. I've tried multiple menu items and everything I've tried, from the pasta dishes, to the pizza, to sticking with only a bowl of soup, has made me sick. We have friends who love this place because they have huge boxes of leftovers to take home we so end up here a few times a year and spend the next day taxing our plumbing. Last night we gave it one more try and my husband and I are BOTH paying the price again this morning. Never EVER again. Quality over quantity people!

Yelp comes through again. Drove to Hermitage from DC. Never been here before. Picked Combine Brothers and was very happy. Local place, cute interior, good home-made pasta sauces. Huge portions. Large selection of beer.
(3)Kurt S.
Good atmosphere and good portions. We are just passing through and found this on Yelp. Service was pleasant. Food was very good (especially for only $$). Family friendly.

Great food. Great service. I was headed to Erie and decided to sleep over. Checked yelp and decided to try this place. I'm so happy that I did!!! The service at bar was excellent!
(5)Mary H.
Good enough because there don't seem to be a lot of choices in this area. The portions are pretty huge so I doubt any normal sized human being could finish an entree alone. The bread is pretty good and so is the house salad. The house dressing is balsamic vinegar and oil blended and it's pink! I swear it's pink but it's tasty if you like that kind if dressing. I had the vermicelli with tomato cream sauce and 1 meatball. It was just ok.

This is a 'Must Stop' when we drive up from Pittsburgh heading to our summer place in Jamestown and we've never been disappointed. The wait can be a little long but we don't mind eating at the bar so we give them our name then troll the bar looking for a couple open seats. We always get them. :) Their Friday beer special is a domestic beer of the day, in an ice tub, for $2. How can you beat that...? Well, you can order any other domestic 16oz draft for $2.25, that's how! We ordered a pizza after seeing it delivered to the couple next to us and it was delicious...! We also ordered Mussels Marinara which are on the spicy side (the way we like it), with hot peppers added to the sauce for kick. It's served with a fresh roll that's as big as your head for dipping into the broth. My wife wanted a small salad which wasn't listed on the menu but the bartender suggested she order a dinner salad which came out to $2.95 or something. As we were wondering where we were going to put all this food, we watched their meatball appetizer stroll by- 4 meatballs, covered with sauce, cheese sprinkled on top and slivered peppers & maybe onions covering the whole thing up! Talk about food envy! Those meatballs are definitely on my radar for our next trip up through Hermitage. Way to go, Combine Brothers... You make us very happy after a one hour drive...!

This place is massive confusion with a hostess who was working this evening, who had a snippy, short curt attitude! She stated that they were filled with a waiting/ standing at 5:00PM. really? she never offered a cold Beverage or a place to wait......this place needs a training In customer Service and peoples skills. as a matter of fact, I was asked to write an article About this restaurant in a Chicago/travel magazine which specializes in western Pa. Restaurants off the beaten path. we had people to,be seated, Decided to,walk out and go,to another local, establishment which we will be Giving 5 stars....This is unacceptable treatment. this restaurant needs to Look at their hostesses and staff! very disappointing! DO not waste your Time or money!

If you come here for dinner, make sure you bring a real appetite. Delicious italian food that you are served such a large serving of, 99% of the people take some home. With meatballs the size of baseballs and rolls the size of softballs, it's virtually impossible to leave here hungry!
(4)Bruce T.
Do not get an appetizer unless you want that as your meal as dinner portions are enormous. All the pasta dishes that I have tried are very good. Mild spaghetti sauce very good flavor. Service has always been very good on my many trips here. Only real drawback is the seating in the booths put you real close to your neighbor so privacy is limited. Would recommend however you will be taking home a dogie box for sure.

Excellent place. You have to get their salad and pasta- and bread lovers will feast on their rolls that are bigger than a softball. Workers are nice. Home made dressing is the bomb. Pasta is totally customizable too. However if you plan on going on Saturday or Sunday, call &' make reservations, or you may end up with a 45 minute wait for a table for two!

4.5 stars How can Combine Brothers have an average score of three stars?!! I got into town late on a Saturday night and had gotten lost for a while. The desk clerk told me to make a left and I'd see several restaurants. I selected Combine Brothers and was happy to see a cute, somewhat crowded spot. They only had beer and wine, and the Woodbridge wine I selected - which I normally would have turned my nose up at, since it's so ubiquitous - turned out to be surprisingly good. They had a HUGE selection of pasta dishes with a myriad of toppings. I selected bowtie pasta with white clam sauce, and the serving size was incredibly big. I was happy to have the leftovers the next night, as I had a medical emergency with my cat and sure didn't feel like cooking. The salad I received first was decent but nothing special, and I rejected the bread since it fills me up too much. Nice customers, too, as I talked with a nice woman back in town for a funeral. Pity I'm going to be passing through Hermitage again soon on a Sunday, since they'll be closed.....

Tons of pasta!!! This place has some awesome pasta in a "build-your- own" style. That also have a favorites menu, which is always good. We always get the pink pepper sauce with hot sausage crumbles. Spicy red sauce is cooled down w Alfredo. Sooo good. Their gigantic rolls are fresh baked and awesome. A little pricy for pasta, and that's the only reason they didn't get four stars.

I've been to Combine Brothers probably a half dozen times over the past year and have NEVER been treated so disrespectful at any restaurant I've visited. My friend ordered the Diavolo sauce with his pasta and I ordered the pink pepper sauce. When our entrees arrived the friend of mine thought he ordered a different sauce than what showed up but it was the diavolo sauce. Our server was gracious enough to ask him if he would like a side of the pink pepper or Alfredo sauce to mix into his entree. I asked the server if she could take his entree back and ask the kitchen team if they could add the sauce to the entree. Our server (again, very helpful and gracious) took the entree back and within a few minutes my friend's pasta with the revised sauce showed up. When our Server walked away from our table, there was an older lady sitting at the end of the bar who 'yelled' for the server to see her. This older lady asked, "What's that guy's problem?" We could hear the entire conversation. The server describe what happened and how they were able to fix it and the older lady's response was "Too bad!" The older lady then began rolling her eyes and shaking her head in disgust as if we or the server had done something wrong. When our server came back to our table, I asked her who was the lady at the end of the bar. Our server told us she was one of the owners. The lady (part owner) had already left and we asked to speak with another owner or someone in charge. A manager came to our table and apologized and told us that the lady (part owner) creates problems like this quite often and that he has had several guest and employee complaints. To top it off, when we received our bill for 2 pasta entrees and three beers the total was $141 plus change. Of course, that just added insult to the bad experience. To the Combine Brothers (part owners)...you should keep your mother (if she is the RUDE lady that likes to sit at the end of the bar and treat guests and employees like "second" class citizens, you should keep her out of the restaurant. The food, the salad is some lettuce put on a plate with some pink dressing that tastes bland and boring. The "homemade" bread has no flavor at all - very bland and boring too. The pasta dishes are overpriced and not prepared very well at all! Still haven't been back.

This place is always amazing. Best pasta you can get, and I'm picky. Bruschetta is the best! Fresh large rolls very tasty. If you like pasta, this is the place. Portions are huge, my wife and I enjoy the leftovers for two or three days after. I can't imagine someone giving this place a bad review. Well worth the wait!!

First time, ok experience, may go back but not when busy. Combine was pack tonight but, we were told 20 minutes and when in on a minute over. Good estimation on the hostesses part. We would have waited a bit longer as we were hungry and the smell of the tomato sauce slapped us silly. We sat down waitress came right over politely and started to take our order. The wedding soup had too much pepper and broth, like skimming the top and not stirring. The bread was so-so, not very flavorful. However, my eggplant parm with fettuccine was cooked perfect. Just the right amount of cheese on (non-breaded) thick slices of eggplant. My wife's shrimp pesto was also very good. Yet, we were not impressed with our sons burger, a bit dry, but our youngest did make a mess of her spaghetti, and meat ball that was the size of her head. She was very happy. The waitress did a fair job of clearing the tables but never excused herself reaching over into the booth. She did however keep the glasses full and was eye full of what was going on eye on us - appreciated. Overall, it was an ok experience but to wait 20 minutes again is not going to happen. There is really nothing around so it's a misnomer that the please is great. The portions are huge but you are getting for what you pay for, the place isn't cheap. Score Food Quality (entrées 4, very thing else 2) 3 Service 3 Atmosphere 3 Value 3 Recommend 4 ( their competition is Bob Evans and Applebee's, is there anything else to say?)

Most important, don't plan to eat at Combine Brothers if you're dieting or are not a fan of carbohydrates! You'll leave here very, very full and will likely have enough leftovers for another meal that will make you very, very full. Great place. Great people. Always a nice experience. Combine Brothers offers a lot of really great sauces, but I like the red clam sauce so much that I've never strayed from it in nearly 10 years of visiting this place. Plan on leaving Combine Brothers stuffed and happy.

a prior review said it, i'll repeat it: you will not go home hungry. +1 for well-above average marinara sauce, which speaks volumes about any establishment claiming to be italian +1 for gnocchi. however, it's not on the menu. you have to ask for it. +1 for more food than you can handle. i pride myself on often leaving restaurants hungry ... and not because i don't try. most restaurants simply don't include enough food to fill me up. not the case, here. i couldn't quite finish my gnocchi. +1 for good house salad dressing. appeared to be a creamy raspberry vinaigrette. tastes much better than it looks. +1 for *large* loaves of bread. -1 for atmosphere. kind of comes with the territory, i suppose. tables are crammed into the main seating area like sardines. walking traffic only flows in one direction at a time. +1 for friendly staff. +1 for decent prices (especially considering proportion size) i had previously "forgot" that this place existed. it's back on my radar. recommended.

This place is A-OK in my book and probably one of the best restaurants around. As other yelpers mentioned, portions are huge here. The bread that they serve here is giant, but really lacking in flavor and should probably be used as a burger bun. I ordered the Pink Pepper pasta and had them throw some mushrooms in. It was nice and spicy! The mix with the diavolo and alfredo sauce was just right. However I wish they would have mixed the mushrooms to absorb some of the flavor instead of just placing them on top and cooked in a separate pan. Also, be warned, this place loves putting minced garlic on their pastas. So if you can't eat too much garlic b/c of digestive issues, etc., you should ask them to hold the garlic. If you do end up sitting in a booth, be prepared that they are wooden with no padding. So after an hour or so, your butt WILL go numb. I'm pretty sure they do this to get people out more quickly, as this place can get packed.

GREAT FOOD! love the baked ziti with meatballs. The giant fresh baked rolls and house salad dressing are AMAZING! This is one of the best italian restraunts in the 3 neighboring counties. If you are looking for a great variety of Italian foods, this is the place. My husband, teenage son and 6 year old son, love it here as well. We definitly go whenever we have the chance. My husband loves the spicy diablo sauce, and my little one loves the pizza. The servings are large and even my biggest eater always has leftovers to bring home.

I visited this place for only the second time in my life. I wasn't impressed the first time but that was many years ago. We were seated quickly and service was prompt and friendly. We sat in a booth and the benches were just wood without any kind of cushion....not comfortable. The salad was just lettuce served on a board. No olives, croutons, cucumber, tomato, or anything else that makes a salad a salad. They didn't ask what kind of dressing we wanted so I guess you don't have a choice. My brother did ask for vinegar and oil and he did get it. I didn't care for the dressing. I'm not sure what it was but it wasn't very good. I had linguine with olive pesto and my brother had fettuccine with a red sauce and bacon. He liked the sauce but you could just barely taste the bacon. There seemed to be enough pesto on my linguine but it hardly had any flavor. The rolls were really large and fresh but not warm. Warm rolls would have been nice. They give you plenty of butter. The portions are really large but the prices are high for a plate of noodles. We each had a build your own pasta dish and one domestic beer. We were disappointed that you could only order beer or wine...no mixed drinks. With a $5 tip our bill was a little over $36. Not a huge amount of money but over priced for what you get. Lettuce, flavorless noodles and big rolls. It wasn't the worse meal I ever had but if you're looking for a good Italian meal--keep looking.
