Good staff. Never had table service in my many visits but several of the bar tenders are great. Come see John when he fills in on a random Sunday, he is really friendly and charismatic for a guy his age. You have to force feed him your tips. Definitely get the baked clams, they are the house specialty. Decent selection of draft beers and a substantial supply of bottled beer. Not a lot of esoteric stuff but they are sure to have what you like in one way or another. It is where I hang on the common chance that I am in town.

For me, from 2 to 4 stars in 5 years is an impressive accomplishment for any restaurant and these folks have become force in the Havertown restaurant/bar scene. I'm delighted to have experienced their evolution. Irish family owned the ATMOSPHERE here is classic pub/saloon with lots of dark wood and two full bars. There are about a dozen taps at the bars. You wouldn't call this a craft beer place but there are certainly crafts available both tap and bottle. The bartenders are excellent and kudos to management as most have been around for several years. The FOOD here is classic American with a few Irish influenced dishes thrown in. The menu here is extensive and it would be difficult for most folks not to find something that interests them. Expect the portions to be large. You can add Blackened Chicken or Blackened Salmon to some of the salads and I would highly recommend that. A huge spinach salad with blackened chicken is about $13 and fantastic. A very good burger will set you back $8-10 depending on your choice of toppings. They are famous for their Baked Clams at about $11. They have recently updated their menu and I was the first to try the Prime Rib Flatbread with caramelized onions for $10. It was filling and delicious! SERVICE here won't be a problem. The owners spend a lot of time on site and the staff is well trained. In addition the kitchen staff knows how to get your food out pretty darn quick. If you're in the neighborhood and looking for an adult libation, you'd feel welcome here. If you are looking for a Classic American dinner/drinks without taking out a second mortgage they would also be a solid choice.

Great family owned place. Great food and service last night. Great specialty drink menu which comes with a little yellow duck. Beef sandwiches always plenty of meat. Love the long hots. They will knock your socks off..

I came to Tip O'Leary's for the first time today, after living up the street for a few years. We're moving soon and I'm fairly sad about it because the staff here consists of some of the nicest people I've encountered since moving to Havertown. Jackie was our bartender and she was great. Quick to assist and super friendly, she was what makes a fantastic server. For lunch, I got the cranberry walnut chicken salad (with grilled chicken rather than the chicken salad, and they're very nice about doing that for you!). The portion was HUGE and the salad was very tasty. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the dressing (raspberry vinaigrette) was yummy. The salad was so big that I couldn't finish all of it. So many walnuts and cranberries leftover. Poor walnuts and cranberries, I am not worthy. They also have Not Your Father's Root Beer available, which is pretty great. They're talking about using it for a float, so that's very intriguing! I'll be back to try it for sure.

This restaurant really surprised us. After driving by it for a year, we finally decided to stop in. The place definitely has a bar atmosphere with no music and only the sounds of the TV. The interior could use a face lift, but it's fine if you're not expecting anything nice. So we didn't really expect much.... but we were in for a treat. First we each ordered the soup - they were both fresh, hot, and amazing! I would have been happy just eating a big bowl of soup. Then we shared the spinach crab dip. Another home run! I knew I'd be full after all that, so I had ordered the chicken tender app, but that will just be my lunch the next day. I did eat one, and it was pretty much what you'd expect. But my boyfriend ordered the prime rib and he was in heaven. It was the most tender piece of meat. We will definitely be back!

Took the fam here last night because we thought it might be a great venue for our son's baptism reception. This is a classic delco bar/restaurant. My first impression though is how it still smelled like smoke even though the two women at the bar were going outside to smoke in between enjoying their drinks. We ordered the flatbread and were unimpressed. It had no flavor or seasoning but we devoured it bc we were starving. I asked our server how the shrimp were cooked on the sirloin and shrimp entree and were told they were, "cooked." Fried, grilled, scampi, sauteed.... Nope, just cooked. So that added an element of surprise. My steak was so salty I had to ask them to take it off the check and I had lost my appetite. The bake potato was old and grey. When I told the server my meal was not edible he simply said sorry and gave me the check WITH my meal still included. He could have salvaged my experience if he had checked on how our food was but he was eating himself. No manager intervention so we won't be returning. There are too many good delco bars around for us to gamble another meal here again.

Husband & I stopped for dinner tonite and enjoyed 2 delicious entrees (best shepherd's pie since mom's & bacon wrapped meatloaf). Our server, Danny, was very attentive & personable! We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of a friendly neighborhod pub. It has been a long long time since I have been served a mixed drink (rum punch) that was not only delicious, but large enough to float an adorable duckie. We were very impressed and plan to return regularly!

Stopped here last night on a "date night" whim with my wife and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Tip's Spring Chicken which turned out to be a well marinated and flavorful grilled chicken breast topped with bacon, fresh spinach, mushrooms, Jack and cheddar cheese and served with honey mustard. My wife ordered the Homemade Crab Cake Sandwich which was lightly fried and served with tomato and lettuce on a toasted bun. Both sandwiches came with potato chips, so we added a side of sweet potato fries at our server Danny's suggestion. We both enjoyed our sandwiches and agreed that we will definitely be back. As for the ambiance / decor, the dining area is tired and could use a good scrubbing, but it doesn't seem to deter what appeared to be a healthy bunch of locals. Overall it was a positive experience so we will return at some point

Service was slow and the food was cold each time we were there. So many better places near by to dine.

I went here last night to get a drink with some friends, and I had a really nice time. It was the perfect spot for us because we were able to sit outside and enjoy the warm summer evening. I think that this place has potential but it has a lot of room for improvement. The burger that I had was really not that great, it definitely was cooked more than the medium rare that I asked for, and t tasted like it came out of a box, there was hardly any flavor to it. The food that my friends ordered also seemed pretty unimaginative and bland. For an $8 burger, a small handful of chips on my plate did little to justify the cost of what I ordered, especially considering the fact that I couldn't even finish it. If they want to be a restaurant and serve food, then they need to try a little harder to make their food tastier. The drink menu was ok, but again I would say that they could do a lot better. If they had an actual mixed drink menu then they would have made a lot of money off of us last night. Instead we only ordered a couple of bottled beers and kept it simple. Which reminds me, the beer that I wanted was sold out, and the beer my friend wanted wasn't cold so she had to wait a long time for them to put it in the fridge. It seemed kind of sloppy. However, there were a few redeeming points. The waitress was very friendly and did her best to accommodate the situation with the beer. Also, I liked how she knew when to ask us if we needed anything, and when to leave us alone and let us enjoy our food, drinks, and conversation. Also, the location is pretty convenient for anyone who lives in the area. Even though it is right on a very busy highway, we enjoyed sitting outside and had no problem with the noise from the traffic. Interestingly enough, even though all of my friends were local to that area, none of them had ever been there before. Now I can see why, it really fails to stand out, especially in terms of the food. I wouldn't go back to eat there, but I might grab a drink again, because the atmosphere was pretty nice. Maybe the Havertown locals like their food on the bland side, but for me if I am paying to eat out, then I want to feel like the meal that I am eating is worth what I am paying for it. Pros -good service from the waitstaff -nice atmosphere, really enjoyed the outdoor seating -convenient location and lots of parking Cons -menu and food were very unimaginative and unmemorable -drink menu was limited and some of the beers were sold out, or not cold -seemed expensive for what you were getting

I'll spare them the indignity of a single star. Food was meh, the waitress was meh, too loud, too barfly feeling for my taste. I don't mind a bar, but it seemed less 'cheers' and more 'moe's tavern', especially somewhere that prides itself on its meatloaf. Go to get inebriated, but don't eat there.

The best prime rib! Also great pierogies and funnel fries. Kelly Ann is a fantastic bartender. I've never had a better vodka gimlet.
