Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

We came here for Father's Day dinner and I must say I think they severely understaffed themselves in the kitchen for a known busy day in the industry. I want to be clear that our waitress was kind and attentive and the pitfalls experienced did not seem to be the fault of our server. Everything seemed very slow to come out of the kitchen. We ordered calamari for an appetizer which was very chewy. In my past OG experiences, salad and breadsticks typically come out before or with the appetizers. Ours came out a few minutes after we finished our apps. The waitress was apologetic for all the waiting. I ordered the steak Gorgonzola Alfredo and each piece of steak seemed to be of a different doneness (I ordered med-rare). I didn't mind the waiting too much as we were visiting with my father and we don't get to visit all that often. The extended wait time allowed us to chat, but when dessert came around, the wait seemed ridiculously long. We ordered four desserts and four coffees. The dessert came out before the coffee and my coffee was forgotten altogether. I would have preferred to eat my dessert with a cup of coffee but it was about an 8 minute wait for any coffee to hit the table. We coined the coffee "tepid water" as it looked like tea when I filled my cup and also was barely warm. My mother suggested that we ask a manager to take off the coffees as we didn't find them drinkable. There wasn't a manager in sight for our entire meal and with the speed of service, it wasn't worth a ten minute wait for us. Horrible experience? No, not really. Uncomfortable wait times, absolutely.

The Manger is really patience with how many idiots come in and yell at her for the wait. Food is amazing been here 3 times now and never had anything bad. LOVE the soup and salad

Never had a bad meal here. I don't go often, but when I do the service is usually pretty good. There have been some servers that have stood out as well, but I believe they are all gone by now. *Whenever I go and have to wait, I normally take my buzzer and browse Pier 1 Imports right next door.

The food and service have always been good here. I had the Tour of Italy, and it was delicious. I started out with three plates of salad and a breadstick. For the entree, you get a piece of lasagna, fettuccine alfredo, and chicken parmigiana. The fettuccine noodles were cooked well, and the alfredo sauce was tasty. The chicken parmigiana was lightly breaded and crispy. I really like the sauce here and luckily they were generous with it. I was too full to eat the lasagna, but I really enjoyed it the next day at home. It was neatly layered and the cheese, sauce, and meat mixed together perfectly. I had a large Blue Moon draft which complimented my food well. It was very fresh and fizzy, and it actually stayed cold throughout the meal. The restaurant was immaculately clean inside. Our waitress was very friendly, and the atmosphere was honestly fun. It's definitely worth checking out. There's a reason that this place still gets crowded. 4.5 rating.

I have visited this particular Olive Garden periodically since they have opened. I have never been disappointed with the food until tonight. They ran out of breadsticks & instead served us toast with a very salty buttery topping. The minestrone soup tasted NOTHING like Olive Garden minestrone. It tasted more like burger macaroni soup with no burger. It consisted of an overload of over cooked pasta shells and beans. The chicken gnocchi was pretty good. The service was great. The new kids menu with sticker activities was pretty neat & kept my son busy until the food came.

Soup and salad a great deal for lunch. Food is delicious. Friendly prompt and helpful staff. A+ for me. I will return when in the area again.
(5)Cristela T.
very underwhelming to say the least. If you sit at the bar, the servers tend to be too chatty. I just want to eat and leave... especially if i have an hour lunch. I have no time to make friends.

I hadn't been to Colonial Commons Olive Garden for a while. I was in the mood for a delicious sangria like I had once at the one on the pike there was no fruit in it other than two cherries, and it just didn't taste as good as the last time I had it . I ordered the stuffed chicken masala because I had ordered it in the past and it was decent. It was not. It had what tasted like brown gravy on top. Unbearably salty and so greasy. It was supposed to come with mashed red potatoes, instead the potatoes were dry chunks. All this for $16.99. The meal was worth about half that. I've never been a huge fan of OG anyway. I go from time to time because my daughter likes it. The quality has definitely gone downhill. Maybe the next time I have to go, I'll see if the west shore location is better

Server was excellent. Our food arrived so quickly we hadn't even finished all of our appetizers. Drinks were always full. The only thing that I almost needed to complain about is the mints. I was telling my friend in the bathroom on the way out how annoying it was the server forgot the Andes mints. One of the managers heard and brought us each a handful ! Smooth recovery. Needless to say we will be coming back, even though there are lots of other great Italian restaurants in the area closer to us.

I hadn't eaten at an Olive Garden in YEARS...went with a buddy...LOVED IT. Things have obviously changed with this chain, and the food was well above average, reasonably priced, and the service was outstanding. Realizing that restaurants can differ, one from the other, this one has my vote. Worth a second look.
(4)Marinelly M.
This is actually the first Olive Garden where I see they're using frozen eggplant patties unless that has changed at all Olive Gardens. Also this restaurant had way too many flies.
(2)Donald H.
Five minutes waiting, after being seated, to be acknowledged is too long when the restaurant is not busy... Still did not have anyone of the wait staff say anything before we left...

In town for the Harrisburg Marathon... We travel around the country for marathons and always look forward to the local Olive Garden for our pre-race carb fiesta. The beauty of a chain is that the menu and food quality are the same wherever we go. Our waitress was on the job for all of one week and it certainly showed. Nothing egregious and we left with full bellies nonetheless. Bonus - We were able to take advantage of their $12.99 special - order off a special menu and get a second entrée to go. Our to-go entrees were devoured after our marathon the next day. For $50++ we had several beers, an app, and four entrees.

I have eaten here for quite a few years. I did like the salad and some of the things we got weren't too bad for chain food. However, the last 3 experiences were terrible. And you may ask, "is she a masocist or does she just like to get diarrhea? Eating there so many times when it sucked?" I had gift cards. I ordered the chicken scampi and they served the chicken cooked in a sauce and absolutely no sauce whatsoever on the pasta! It was bone dry. I requested that they put some sauce on the pasta. "Oh, didn't they do that? That's strange". It took forever. By then the rest of the table was finished and the pasta was mushy. The second time the pasta was so mushy that you could have served it to a 3 month old baby and not choked it. You didn't need teeth to eat it. I swear I'm not kidding. It was just awful and I couldn't finish it. The last time, and I do mean "last time" because I will never eat here again, I asked that the pasta not be "mushy". It still was. The chicken was overdone and tasted funky. The appetizer was a spicy shrimp thing we had before and it had been pretty good. This time it was not. It tasted fishy and wasn't even spicy. It was fairly bland. I ordered a pudding-like dessert and it was literally like eating vanilla flavored rubber. The topping tasted Iike strawberry sauce from a jar. I told the server that it was bad. She even said "a lot of people don't really care for it". And asked if I wanted to speak to a manager. No, I don't want to "speak to a manager". Why would I have to speak to a manager? She can't handle it? She knew it was a lousy dessert. Other people had said it was lousy. That being said, apparently my only eating, literally 2 bites, still entitled them to charge me for it. Stay home, open a jar of Prego, add your own meat and herbs, get some Texas Garlic Toast, open a bottle of your favorite wine and save yourself some money and aggravation. You will have a much more pleasant and tastier experience. Oh, and their breadsticks? It would be more favorable to gnaw on a doorstop.

This location is always packed...which means their doing something right. The food is always hot and delicious. Always had wonderful encounters with the staff. Restaurant is clean, which is something not always found around Harrisburg. Parking lot is always cramped. Beware of evenings and weekends, you will be waiting at least an hour for a table, but the food is delicious, so go for it!
(5)Andrew D.
The evening we visited we did not have a reservation and the Farm Show was going on in Harrisburg. The Lobby was a "Wait-Fest" ...so we got a buzzer and went shopping a bit and got a table quickly after we returned. Service was prompt and our server was slammed with an excess number of tables to attend to....an amazing feat! ( I gave him an excellent tip) The food was fresh tasting and I would rank it much better than Macaroni Grill for those who have visited their competitor. We will most certainly return.

Actually, my wife and I are veterans of eating at Olive Garden restaurants. She even worked at on for 10 years in New York. Our troubles began on this visit with a booth with one side cocked up do steeply that you could not sit on it. I did know how to make it work but i was dressed up from church and did not want to get on the floor and under the table. Though they offered to move us to another tabke when available, we had already waited a while to be seated. So, we sat together on one side. Next, came the wine sample. Unfortunately, the sun was in our face so we could see how utterly filthy the glasses were. There was even food crust by the rim. We called our server over and told her about the glasses. She said she was sorry and took our glasses away. No new glasses were brought back and no more wine was offered. So we ordered iced tea and the glasses were still oily and streaked as the tableware was. Since i have eaten at the OG so often, i am familiar with the dishes. The portions were noticeably smaller and the sauces less rich. The salad my wife shared had one olive. OG is strict about how many olives are allowed in each salad bowl at two per person, we didn't rate two each. in short, maybe people in PA don't care about silverware and glasses being clean, but in the day of dread diseases it is already a risk to eat food handled by hands of strangers but couldn't restaurants at least insure that the utensils consumers use are shiney clean? What must the kitchen utensils be like? i know that the OG is struggling but i can't support them in their poor service. There were several more infractions at tables around us, but i am not going go cover that ground. We are dissppointed. PS: we spoke with the manager. it seemed no big deal.

I admit it, I like this place. There I said it.

I have been eating here since they opened. This time I was excited as they noted that they had gluten free pasta! I was so excited. And then i ordered the alfredo sauce. I thought it would be gluten free as I had ordered it on gluten free pasta. Nope. I got terribly ill. It wasn't gluten free. I was surprised that they offer gluten free pasta when only the marinara sauce is gluten free, which I found out later. I won't be going back there any time soon. Almost everything on the menu has gluten. No place for me.

being 3/4 Italian I grew up on Italian food. I will say that everything I get at Olive Garden is excellent. Pasta is always Al Dente and drained well. The bread, soups and salads always spot on and fresh. This place is busy and you are not busy by serving bad food. The service is typically good as well. I really like this place.. I love the comments where people say this is not authentic Italian. I bet none of those people ever had truly authentic Italian food and just because its served by some fancy overpriced Italian Ristorante does not make it authentic when you start mentioning other places. My parents told me what their family ate in the old country, and I have yet to see anything "authentic" in a ristorante' here. Lasagna, spaghetti and everything else they serve is authentic if you consider Italian-American food authentic. My friend just came back from Abruzzo Italy and NOTHING what they eat over there is close to anything you can find here so if you want to say Olive Garden is not authentic then you have to say the same thing about every other place in this area, even the overpriced fancy name places which I will leave out. ps, I see Italian owners from some local Pizza shops eat here as well..
(5)Jimmy N.
I must say I love Olive Garden but today's experience was very disappointing. The waitress we had seemed to be new on the job so her inexperience was expected. But some of the others seem to be giving her a hard time instead of helping her. On two separate occasions she asked 2 different people that didn't seemed to be busy at all and both said "NO". It's one thing to say if you're busy but to just say no is just being rude. The food was great as usual and of course this isn't my last visit.
(4)Ashley A.
Really? "Authentic" Italian food? I think NOT! There is nothing Italian about this place, especially when it comes to the food. The pasta tastes like it's loaded with butter, not olive oil (a lighter option) and the sauce is way too heavy. They do have a lot of options on the menu, but nothing of quality. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If you're looking for better Italian food in the Harrisburg area, try Gabriella's on Rt. 22, Sammy's 3rd St. Hbg, or Vino on 39, near Karns.

Had dinner here last Friday evening - early. It's been a while since I've been to O-Garden. Normally they have too many customers waiting for tables. I prefer a later dinner but my diner partner insists on going early. Wait-Staff was pleasant. Eager to engage in light conversation and banter about beverage and food selections. Being there early on a Friday was a good idea. The FOH staff wasn't rushed and the kitchen was able to take the time to produce a good product. The wine 'sample' resulted in a small glass of lukewarm white wine. Not bad - Not good. Typical O-Garden Italian food. Large menu - many choices. I went with a seafood/pasta dish on whole grain linguine. Dining partner went with a beef dish - No pasta. Both were large enough to take something home. What can be improved... Overall the food was good. The place is too busy to close for an update to the décor. It isn't too busy to do a complete cleaning. The lights near our table had spider webs and dead bugs. The second suggestion is more difficult. Improve parking. Move some parking further from the building and add 'waiting space'.

Bad experience right from the door. Hostess acted like the large volume crowd on a Sunday afternoon was overwhelming. Imagine our surprise when we are seated and there are literally empty tables everywhere! Our waiter rarely visited the table very slow to service. Never brought the traditional fresh ground Parmesan or the ending of Andes candies...this could all be overlooked except throughout our entire meal we were seated next to the kitchen and prep area. Wait staff just to let you know we can hear you talking. So when you make fun of other diners "only ordering" the salad and breadsticks and "what kind of a tip am I going to make off a five dollar tab" then equally trash talking the tables that keep "bugging" you for more food. It's offensive to us other diners. If you are going to be so open talking about other diners we are pretty sure you are being hateful to us as well. The food was great! Everything as tasty as Olive Garden is known for! It would be lovely to one day soon be able to write a new review!

Wow! What a bad experience. :( This place is the pits....came here because we were in town and they advertise a gluten free menu because my son has celiac disease....finally got my kids meals after almost an hour.....they haven't served "the grown up meals" yet and my son's pasta looks like it was in the sun for the afternoon....the manager has been over twice to apologize...and we are waiting for plain gluten free penne #2.....come on olive garden really......you can't cook pasta! .... Wow finally got the "grown up meals" not very appetizing....off to find some dinner......

Normally there's no way in hell that I could ever justify giving the abominable and corporate Italian OG chain a three star review, but this OG seems to be an anomaly. We popped off the highway long enough to grab a bite (we'd done Foxboro to H-burg in 7 hours straight and were feeling peckish.) This OG looked just like every other OG in America. The server was surprisingly good considering the fact that she was working midshift on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, The surprising thing about this place was that the food was REALLY tasty for once. Everyone at the table agreed that this was far superior to any Olive Garden that they'd ever been to before. The garlic bread was unusually tasty. The linguine I had, some sort of pomodoro with shrimp, was outstanding. When we asked the server, ahem, sorry to be rude but this is the fucking OLIVE GARDEN, so why's the food so good? She laughed and said that the asst. chef who works during the day was ACTUALLY TRAINED IN ITALY and tried to use as many fresh ingredients as possible. We were so impressed that we sent a note back to him thanking him for a great meal. He came out to say hello and we got free desserts! Really neat and cool of them. I can't say for sure whether this guy is still working there, but I just had to share this story. Who woulda thought that an Olive Garden would make our day!

All you can eat soup and salad is a great deal!
(3)Gina E.
My son inlaw gave me some OG gift cards. I loaded everybody up and off we went. We went to the OG on rt22 and it was packed. I'm like ok maybe that means it is good. I don't understand what all of the hoopla is about. This food is as Italian as Taco bell is Mexcian. The food taste like an upgraded TV dinner. The best parts are the breadsticks and salad (even though the Italian dressing is too tangy). I had the tour of Italy and it tasted like a tour of the frozen food section at Wally mart. I went once before and had the seafood alfredo and that was good ( how can you go wrong with a stick of butter, heavy cream, parmesan, thick noodles and lobster, and shrimp). But the people here just love this place. Things that make you go "huh"?
(2)T W.
Central PA diners love lots of salt and butter on everything, and especially love all-you-can-eat anything. This place is for them but you'll first have to wait an hour to get at that salt lick. Just don't get the attraction beyond that, surly inexperienced service, none of the food is great, but you will walk out full, that's what the attraction is I think.
(1)Gregory O.
The Olive Garden was just what the doctor ordered after a long, tiring (and fun) day at HersheyPark. Soup and breadsticks? Yes, please! (Don't forget the alfredo dipping sauce). More soup and breadsticks? Absolutely! Our server couldn't have been nicer; one member of our group was able to order a lunch portion and also get a cup of water to go. To sum it up, this Olive Garden was wonderful.
(4)E G.
I just dunno anymore. You know Olive Garden as the restaurant that brings out the best and worst opinons of people. Some say it's a great deal for the price and quality. Most others mock its' claim of authenticity and quality of food. I never really had an opinon either way, because it has changed with each visit. I guess that sums up Olive Garden to me. Inconsistent. Our first 2 visits wanted me to change people's opinion of this place. I hadn't been to OG in years and found that the service had improved exponentially. They really made an effort to bring a classy and personal environment to their service which was a great change. The food was quite good too. Their lasagna had not changed since the years went by but that was my old standby that I knew was decent. I loved the manacotti formaggio, which was baked nice and filled with tasty cheeses. Calamari was fresh and light and the stuffed mushrooms were very tasty. All you can eat salad and bread sticks remained and were fresh the first two times we went. So with our last visit we expected the same type of experience since the first 2 were very good. Instead we got the exact opposite. The service was beyond bad. Our waiter purposefully tossed the straws on the table so that they scattered around, which we overlooked, but weren't sure whether he did it on purpose to be cool and different or was just having a bad night. His demeanor was cold and offbeat. He cut us off when we placed our order everytime. We never heard back from him until our check came. But we observed him at his other 2 tables. One was a large party that came after us. We witnessed: -Him leaning over on his arms resting against an empty chair to take the 8 person table's order. -nodding when an order was placed without speaking -checking back with the table by SITTING DOWN in the empty chair and speaking with a gentlemen for a good 5-7 minutes. Upon giving us the check he handed us the check book opened up with the mints inside, proceeding the fling them on the table, again scattering everywhere. We just sat there in shock. Oh yea, the food. The salad was drenched in oil & vinegar so much that it was unedible. The stuffed mushrooms were not cooked all the way, the mushrooms were hard as if they were never put in the oven. We wanted to send it back but since our waiter never returned, it went uneaten. The manacotti cheese was burnt on top. This location is always packed no matter the day or time, so I have to give them a little slack but since we know that it can be a great time, I have no sympathy for the last visit and this review. I'll re-review it if we go back and it is better again. My motto: "A restaurant is as good as its last visit!"
(2)Leigh N.
Yum. I love this place. I love their salads and pasta. They have something for everyone. I have to limit myself to going here or I would be huge.
(4)David K.
I love the all you can eat salad and bread sticks. You get a lot of good food for your money.
(4)Dave E.
This Olive Garden is another location that seems to be a step above the average or the chain. Was there recently and had really good service, the soup was really tasty too.

The family piled into the car to celebrate my grandmothers birthday. 5PM on a Saturday, the wait was horrible, 50 minutes. Even with a reservation, it didn't help much at all. Once we were seated the server did his best to give the specials and take or drink orders. The sample wine he brought to the table was so bitter my mind has blocked out the name of it for fear of me speaking it's name so it can hurt me again. Our table of 6, having plenty of time waiting for the table, already knew what we wanted and ordered after he was done pouring the wine. Wait time for the food was 23 minutes, during which we passed the time with various trivia games and shooing away of servers asking if we needed more bread and salad. The food began coming out to the table and looked darn tasty, until they set mine in front of me. I had ordered the Four Cheese Stuffed Sacchetti with Shrimp. What I saw, was the Sacchetti with chicken, the server asked if I wanted it corrected (Huh??? you don't ask me that, you tell me you will correct it) I informed him that I did and he took it away. I began waiting for my dish which took another 12 minutes to correct. The manager was the one who brought it out and said that since I needed to wait longer for it, she was going to take it off the bill. (Good service without being prompted). While she was there she asked if there were any other problems. My grandmother said that her asparagus was undercooked. I stabbed at it and sure enough, it was like a carrot. The manager removed hers from the bill as well. All told, about 45 dollars came off the bill due to problems, but the good part about that is we didn't ask for that, it happened on it's own, the way it should be. We finished up and without any room for dessert went on our way. Not a bad location, good food, and the manager on duty wanted to make sure we were well taken care of. I suppose when you're there, you're family.
(4)Marc P.
Food was good, but service was horrible. We arrived 1 hour and 15 minutes before closing and were rushed out. Our food came out less than 3 minutes after getting our salad. We litterly had no room on our table to finish our salad and breads ticks. We can hear our waitress complaining about why people show up late. If the hours are till 10pm arriving an hour and 15 before closing should be fine.
(3)Matt H.
This was one of the better olive garden chain locations I have been to. Service was good, food was hot, and all you eat breadsticks and salad. First tip, they have call ahead seating, and even on a Sunday night at 630 there was a 45 min wait, so we called ahead. Once we arrived we waited about 5 mins and seated. I even ordered the salad without dressing for myself and one with for my date. They were very accommodating. I ordered the baked four cheese ziti. It has a cheese and Mariana sauce mixture with ziti. Very tasty. Out server was very attentive and the peach/raspberry iced tea was a great recommendation. Lastly, parking is a little scarce however there is a large shopping mall parking lot right behind the place.
(4)Roberta W.
Food was good but not great. Waiter rushed us to order and then to leave and we had not been "lingering" over our food. However, the bummer for me was that we were charged $1.99 for "table games" without being aware that there was a charge. The waiter encouraged us to use a Ziosk tabletop tablet and showed us that we could order from it and pay our bill with a credit card using it. While waiting for our food, we explored this Ziosk tablet and started to play a game but stopped when it started asking us for personal info. Still - we were charged for "table games". I felt this was a deceptive practice - just a little on the shady side. So be forewarned not to play with the tabletop Ziosk.
