I like their restaurant in Slippery Rock, North Country Brewing. At the Harmony Inn, they are sticking with the roots of Harmony and featuring German cuisine. I am not a big fan of German food. I have to be in the mood for it. So if you like the food at the Slippery Rock Restaurant, it's not the same. You may or may not like it. I started with the beer sampler, I liked that they identified each beer by writing them down. I think they make decent beer but I am not a beer connoisseur by any means. For an appetizer, we got the ploughman's platter. This consisted of sausages, cheese, fresh bread, hot peppers, and spicy mustard dipping sauce. I thought it was good and would get it again. My mom got the goat cheese pillows. I did not try them, but my mom and my husband thought they lacked flavor. For my main entree I wanted to get the one that features their German sausages. I have been here a few times and each time they are out of it. This time was no different, so I was again disappointed. I ended up settling for the Bavarian Burger. I got a side of German Potato Salad and greens flavored with garlic. I liked the burger and thought it was very tasty. I also liked the German potato salad. The greens were good but could have used more garlic flavor. I would definitely order the same meal again. Each time we come, the food has been progressively getting better. Especially since North Country Brewing took the restaurant over. The food portions are generous and are reasonably priced. Since this is our neighborhood, we will be returning.

I ate here twice last week, once for dinner and once for lunch. The building is an old mansion turned inn and pub turned current restaurant. It has retained all of its historic touches and is nestled along one of the main streets of the very quaint town of Harmony. Wednesday when we went for a late dinner there was a band playing outside so we opted to sit on the upstairs patio. This is such a great location. We were able to look over the balcony to the outdoor patio below and hear the music perfectly. Actually it was still a little loud so I think sitting on the patio would have been too noisy for dinner. That night we had a fantastic waiter. We let him choose the beers for our beer flight (six 5oz beers for $10! Deal!) which are all either county or state brewed. My favorite was the Dingleberry. It reminded me of Framboise. For dinner we started with their soft pretzels (my weakness) and they were served with two sauces: one a cheese and the other a mustard vinegarette. They were delectable. For my entree I ordered the shrimp and scallop dinner with a salad and potato pancakes. This is their most expensive item on the menu at $28. The house salad I had with their homemade ranch dressing. It was excellent. The potato pancakes I had with sour cream. You must try them. They are cooked perfectly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The shrimp and scallops came on skewers and were grilled. The portion size was ok but they were dressed in a rosemary/thyme sauce that really did not compliment fish. For lunch on Saturday we sat outside on the patio. I ordered a Dingleberry pint. We also had the pretzels again. There was a very long wait for our drinks and order. For my entree I got the fish sandwich. When our waitress brought our order she asked if we could close our check because her shift was ending. Reluctantly we said yes because she was worried about getting the tip. When she came back with the credit card I told her that I was unhappy with my meal. I never ever complain unless it is a serious issue. Well something went wrong in the fryer because the thick bread coating on the fish was soft and laden with oil. When I cut into the sandwich a mixture of oil and water came rushing out. It really was inedible. So I told her and she looked at me not knowing what to do. So she had to go get her manager. The manager came over and I showed her. The manager was fantastic, so pleasant. I apologized for having to complain but she made me feel so at ease. She said she really appreciates feedback because that helps them improve. What a nice surprise to be treated so kindly. She agreed that there was an error. I then had to explain to her that we had already had to cash out, etc. So she had to re-run the bill. By this time since it took so long for our drinks, app and then to finally get our food we didn't have time to wait around for a new sandwich so she deducted it. All in all this is a great place to enjoy an afternoon or evening. Even though I didn't have luck on my dinner or lunch entrees that doesn't mean I wouldn't return. The ambiance, pretzels, potato pancakes and specialty beers definitely make it worthwhile.

Under new ownership and remodeled in 2014, the Harmony Inn boasts a German flare and a nice selection of in-house brewed beer as well as local (PA) craft beer. Try the sampler to taste six different brews. Food portions are generous. Menu has many offerings including wild boar burger. Schnitzel with mushroom Buck Snort gravy is good and I plan to return to try a strudel.

Beer as good as at Slippery Rock, but food was so so. I got the parmesan ranch wings. They were free of taste. Not a goodbthing. Wife got a turkey Devonshire and it was eh. New location so will give them time.

The historic Inn has been turned into North Country microbrew. It is definitely worth the drive from Pittsburgh. The beers are great. There are 6 North Country favorites on tap as well as 6-10 other taps. Add specialty whiskey, scotch and bourbons to its selections. The food is perfection. Outdoor fireplace makes it my new favorite place.

Good beer good food! Desserts could be better but love the food, the place, and the beer!

We used to eat at the Harmony Inn when it was under the old owners....I really enjoyed it there- since the new owner has taken over- the own North country brewing In slippery rock...it really is NOT GOOD....the waitress was really not smart- she didnt bring us silverware- YOU NEED THAT TO EAT! and she told us that we were not able to order from the right side of the menu for 10 minutes??? The dinner menu started at 4 - it was 10 minutues to 4pm- really??? when we got the food it was OK my burger was not done in the middle and i had to send it back- not to mention all the 20-somethings sitting on the victorian porch drinking and being obnoxious - I feel that the are drawing a differnt crowd - and hire SUB_PAR waitress's....I wish they would of stayed in slippery rock- really miss the old Harmony inn

Took us few minutes to find parking because they have a small lot. The older lady at the door looked at us oddly when we asked to sit outside but then grabbed menus and headed out. My menu ended up being dirty and when the waiter came I had to ask for beer list which is odd because this place is owned by a great craft beer place in Slippery Rock. I suspect the hostess should have included that also. On the good side this old place has great ambiance and a nice outdoor seating area with a working fireplace. . The menu is German influenced with a great selection of craft beer. It also has the story of the Inn which I didn't get to read because they grabbed it away after the order. If you are going go to all that trouble and expense - leave a copy on the table for everyone to read. I had a fried pastry sandwich with potato pancakes and my wife had the chicken and creamed spatzle. We topped it off by sharing German chocolate cake. Food wise: we loved it! Service from the waiter was very good and attentive. The hostess: meh..... It is a long (31 mi) drive for us go to Harmony and we have resolved to hit it several more times to try more of the menu. We think our friends would like it too if we can convince them to make the drive. PS: we loved the music too a great R&B/jazz type mix with a horn section. Don't see that too much anymore.

We are regulars at North Country Brewing and have wanted to try their new establishment for a while. We love North Country, but I think The Harmony Inn has a long way to go to. The building is beautiful....that's the one major plus for us. I had the shrimp tempura special. It was nothing like shrimp tempura that I have ever eaten. It was more like a breaded shrimp, not battered. When I cut into the shrimp, the "coating" slid off in a greasy mess. It was almost like it had been fried sometime prior to my ordering and kept under a heat lamp. Not good. My husband ordered the Jager Schnitzle with German potato salad. the meat was so overcooked it was hard to cut and very, very dry. The German potato salad had very little flavor, and was more like a traditional potato salad. Needless to say, we were extremely disappointed and will not return anytime soon.

I feel this restaurant is much over rated. I went here with my parents and my girlfriend.I had the special T-bone. I wouldn't call it much of a T-bone as there was no filet on it, just the bone and the other half being a very bland new york strip steak. The food was bland, not seasoned very well, very boring salad, and well the decor is just out dated. For all the hype of this place I prefer just to find somewhere else, like a few restaurants in a 2 mile vicinity that are a much higher quality.

Stopped here on the way home after attending a play in Pittsburgh. My parents had heard favorable views and decided to give it a go. We arrived around 5:15 on a Sunday for dinner. The hostess sat our party of four in a section that already had a 10 person table that had yet to order. Because of this, it took ages for us to order drinks and food. We sat there for probably a good 10-15 minutes before our server came to our table to order drinks because he was taking the (rather lengthy) orders of the big table. He was running back and forth like mad for this table and I feel ours (and the table of two people in the corner) felt the brunt of that. We had been sat at the same time as another family of three (they were in a different section). By the time we received our food, that family had already ate and were leaving. I checked my watch and we had been sitting for about an hour before our main dish came out (we didn't order an appetizer) because our section had to wait for the food of the 10 person table to be served (as per most restaurant rules: first in, first out). The wait wasn't the part that displeases me but the fact we never received an apology from anyone regarding the length of time it took to receive our food. We weren't in a hurry by any means, but it would have been nice to have been given some sort of understanding when we would get our food. As for the food, mine was decent. The garlic green beans weren't very garlicky (would have been better if they had been sauteed rather than sprinkled with minced garlic) and the Henpeckin' chicken I had was acceptable. My mom said her sandwich (something Jamaican inspired) was amazing. There was definitely some timing that needs to be assessed here. There really shouldn't have been this issue when the restaurant wasn't extremely busy (no wait to be seated, etc.).

Went again with friends from our community. Food was very good. Speatzel was very good. German influenced menu is very diverse. there is something for everyone. I hsd a turkey devenshire, what makes it remarkable is the beer cheese sauce, which was excellent, dont miss the pretzel appetizer. great dipping sauces go great with their craft beer, I had the Firehouse ale, which was excellent, I also had the stone-house stout. tasted like Guinness, which I also like, seemed to have the distinctive qualities of nitrogen based beer, good, but not what I expected from microbrew stout. I have also had Bucksnort Stout, which is excellent. This spot is unique, and well worth going out of your way to experience. ther permitting, I suggest seating on thier outdoor patio, which is wonderful. Food is consistently good. And a great place for traditional German specialties!

What a find! We happened upon the inn just by chance while passing through Harmony. I am so pleased. We ordered a few craft beers: strawberry wheat and a pumpkin ale. They were tasty! The waitress was very helpful when we asked for suggestions. She recommended the fondue for an appetizer and the jaeger schnitzel for an entree. WOW! Extremely delicious! Definitely worth another visit.

This place is about 35-40 minutes from Pittsburgh, but its worth the drive! Its an Historic house that the restaurant is in. It has a nice porch for sitting and having a drink, there is an upstairs outside balcony with tables on it which is over looking the street very nice. They has an extensive beer menu. The food was really good, I got the Henpeckin chicken. Theres a beautiful outside area to dine at also with a fireplace, and lights hanging from the trees its really nice.

Last night I met up with some friends for drinks at the Harmony Inn. It's been many years since I've eaten there and I thought Maria did a nice job summing up that aspect. We were able to enjoy a quite atmosphere and smoke a few cigars out on the patio. The bartender provided excellent service and they offer a good range of beers on tap.

Everything is great except the wifi. I called in advance to make sure they had it, but when I arrived to have a beer, dinner, and (key words) get some work done, it was terrible. I was stuck in Butler all day and had a four-hour break. NCBC was closing early so I came here, knowing it was the same owners. Please fix the wifi... Young professionals work remotely and like good beer to accompany the monotony of the tasks that give them the resources to drink good beer. Thanks!!

The menu is confusing. It reminds me of one of those places that Gordon Ramsey would visit and really slim the menu down and make it cohesive. We visited early spring of 2011 and the service was atrociously bad. And I can't blame the server AT ALL. She was trying so hard, but she was the only server and was working the outdoor patio, the bar area, and the dining room. The layout of the place would have made this next to impossible so I can't even imagine how hard it must have been for her. I can however blame the management as there were two people just standing behind the bar, watching this woman flounder, and not helping at all. It took almost 2 hours for us to have dinner, and it wasn't a multi course meal. The food wasn't bad, it was actually kinda good, but we haven't been back. I'd also like to say how disappointing the upkeep being done on this place is. As we sat there, we had a lot of time to really enjoy what was once amazing architectural details. But, a lot of the upkeep and painting has been done very sloppily. Someone desperately needs to take a razor to the windows to get the paint splatters off. It would make a huge difference! The trim painting was bad as well. It's sad because this is a gorgeous old place! I'd love to see someone come in and give it the TLC it deserves!

I hate it when reviews are unfair with restaurants, so I will make this as plain and unemotional as possible trying to not sound like a jerk. A few months back we had very poor service and poor treatment from staff at Harmony Inn. An hour wait turned into 2, promises on when food would come and not met, and we had to leave for a show. We paid for our drinks and left, and sent a letter in the mail to them, not a nasty letter, but a "hey we had a problem" letter. Our address and phone number was on it. Waited 1 month and no call or reply. Then I sent the same note via e-mail to the Harmony Inn. I've waited another month, no call or reply. Those are the unemotional facts. Now for my opinion. If you screw up, and don't have the decency to at least say your sorry or to find out why the customer is stating the problems they had, then I don't believe people should patronize the establishment. It's a shame too, since we used to like the old Harmony Inn, but apparently new management has a "take it or leave it" attitude. I didn't want to blast them on social media and review sites because that wouldn't have been entirely fair to them. But with the silence that comes from the Harmony Inn after 2 months I now need to share this with others. Shame on them. My suggestion is to drive a few miles away for much better service and meal, where at least somebody has an interest in what you think and not just your money.

My food was extremely tasty. I had a sandwich with pork prepared three different ways and then topped with mustard and sauerkraut. My friend had the spaetzle filled with chicken and cheese. Both meals were served in a timely manner and hot. The restaurant was not all that crowded and our server was attentive, but no overly so. We also each had dessert to end our meal. The best pie was served warm with vanilla ice cream on the side with a little extra berry compo. Overall a pleasant experience.

I really want to like this place more. I love their place in Slippery Rock but haven't done as well here. Food is just so so. Pros: place is cool and they have great beers. Cons: apathetic hostesses, spotty service and fair food. My sandwich tonight was good but my broccoli was awful. Not sure how you screw up steamed broccoli but they did. Daughter hated Mac and cheese and refused to eat it. They have so much potential but haven't hit it yet.

I really enjoyed this lunch. I am a big fan of BBQ and smoked meats (in fact, I do alot of my own at home on weekends)...I had a Brisket sandwitch witch was amazing. Very nice smokey flavor and not tough it was done just right. I usually do not get that kind of quaulity in smoked meats when I dine out, but this seems to have been one of the best Briskets I have tasted in awhile...the larger chain restaurants seem to forget (low and slow)... Nice historic atmosphere too...
(5)Cate C.
My friend and I both had the spaetzle with chicken and it was AMAZING, still thinking of it a day later. There was no wine list-just a list of the types, which is usually worrying but the Cab I had was very good. Our server was a bit slow, but obviously new. She was doing her very best and was very nice. The space looks so much nicer, so happy that they're open!

This is the third time I have eaten here, and, well, three strikes, you're out. My most recent was a late lunch on Monday. I walked in, and sat for quite a while. No one else was in the restaurant. I finally went to the kitchen to flag a waitress. I ordered a hamburger. It was dry, undercooked. and tasted horrible. I was the only customer in the place. When she finally came back to check on me I had eaten about half of the burger...she asked me how it was. I said, Well, honestly it wasnt that good. It tasted terrible. She looked confused and said "But our burgers are really good!" I said "well this one wasn't."I paid for the food, because she didnt offer me any kind of apology. I was on a photo shoot of the area, and it had been a long day. Luckily I had a protein bar in my pack. I gave this place a chance, like I said, for the third time. Aside from what seems to be really bad lunch service, I had prime rib with my family there as well, about two months ago. The waitress was attentive and courteous, but the prime rib was the worst I have ever eaten. Never again will I eat there. The ambiance is great, the building is old and has history, and ghosts. The place could also use a good cleaning. Its pretty dirty.
(1)Jim L.
A quaint old inn with a bar and restaurant located about a quarter mile from route 68. The steaks are very flavorful, but some of the other entrees could use a little improvement. German potato salad is offered on the menu, but are just quartered redskin potatoes, drizzled with a warm bacon dressing. acceptable but definitely not the traditional german salad one may be used to. This place is definitely worth a try.

I was visiting my sister and brother-in-law, outside Pittsburgh. My Brother-in-law is a local police officer, and I work in federal law enforcement. I received the worst service imaginable. When complaining to the bar tender about the variety of things going wrong, she directed to the manager. He was an overweight, goatee wearing man, that claimed to be the owner. His face and name are listed on the website as being the owner, but my Brother-in-laws interaction with that family indicates that his father is the owner, and he allows his son to "manage". Manage "poorly", I might add. I will never go this place again. I paid my tab and left. Normally, if I have adequate service I never leave less than 20% tip. With the service given tonight, I left no tip. I also confirmed with the owner that I would not be directing an upcoming DHS conference to this area, based primarily upon this poor response/service. I hope/assume they can meet all their business needs with a meager showing of local customers.

Haven't been here in years and we were looking for a place to have a beer and some dinner. We chose to sit in the bar - which is a preference we normally have. Service is nearly always better. So it was here. Beer selection is pretty good although I give most places demerits if they have more than two lite beers on tap. If you're drinking lite beer, you shouldn't have more than two choices. As an aside, do yourself a favor and check the calorie counts. It's not worth sacrificing taste for the minimal difference. They did have some good selections including Full Pint Chinook IPA (my choice) and Smithicks (my wife's choice). Menu is broader than in the past and now has German selections, Mexican as they always had and some traditional fare.. Prices are good and service was quick. My wife ordered jaeger schnitzel with red cabbage and spaetzle. Very good and recommended!! I chose less wisely with the veal Parmesan which was thick, tough, and grisly. Yuck. The side of pasta was inconsistent and under sauced as was the veal.. Had to search to find the sauce at all. I would avoid this dish entirely until they realize that veal has to be pounded before cooking. Every decent restaurant knows that. All in all it was a decent meal - I just made a poor choice. I'll give them another chance cause the bar atmosphere is pleasant and the prices are quite good. My real rating is 2 1/2 stars. Go for a beer and enjoy the place. Listen for the ghosts........

I'm not impressed with this place's food. First off, I have never eaten in the main dining room because I can never get seated by a hostess or server. That's a story in itself. So I have eaten at the bar, giving the place 3 tries. The bar is cool and a fun place to enjoy adult refreshment. But the food is just, meh. I have had the Jaeger Schnitzel, the Steak Sandwich, and I don't even remember what else. The Schnitzel was ok, but the German Potato Salad was horrible, just cooked potatoes with some sort of unimpressive sauce on it. The Spatzle was very flavorless and bland. And the Steak Sandwich was so dry, I had to have a couple of beers with it to get it down. Hmmm, maybe they do that on purpose. But anyway, looking forward to the onset of Spring weather here as I'm told the Bier Garten is great. But I won't be eating there. Update 12/23/2013 - the Inn is temporarily closed while new owners gut and renovate the place. The new owners are reportedly the owners of Northern Country Brewing Company in Slippery Rock. Hmmmm, that was one of the first places I went to after moving here. Great beer, terrible food there, too. I guess some things will never change, but I'll give it another try after it reopens.

Just came here for drinks. It was a cool atmosphere. The food sound interesting and good. I'd like to come back to try it.

Great place. Loads of history and hauntings. Nice draft selection. It's one of my favorite local places to meet up with friends. Turkey Reuben is awesome Colorado burrito is huge Wings are average. There are better ones in town.

Admittedly, it's been several years since I last patronized the Harmony Inn, but I enjoyed the experience every time I went. It's a historic site in the small town of Harmony, PA where I attended high school. As a point of reference for anyone not from the area, it's about 45 minutes north of Pittsburgh. The Harmony Inn is not just an old house-turned-hotel-turned-restaurant, but is also locally famous for being haunted. Now, I personally don't have a definitive opinion one way or the other on the subject, but I admit that it is an attractive factor! I mean, come on, who wouldn't want to go to dinner in an old inn that is certainly not decrepit, but supposedly brimming with old spirits? That said, the menu is really quite unique. They have classic American faire, but also focus on two other types of cuisine: Mexican and German. The German I get, because Pennsylvania has a rich German-Polish heritage and the neighboring town of Zelienople was founded by Germans. But the Mexican? Color me puzzled, but I've sampled both types of food there twice and I liked it. I remember they even used to offer Rocky Mountain Oysters (which are definitely NOT seafood) on the appetizer menu back in the day around 2000 or 2001, but every time my Dad tried to order, they were out. At any rate, if you find yourself in Western PA looking to eat somewhere unique to the area, seek out the Harmony Inn.
(4)Erin H.
Great place for a drink! However, the food is just ok. The servers are always cranky too.

Service was terrible, and they were out of wine, out of vodka, and out of limes. Either keep the restaurant open or close it, not something in between.

Got steak sandwich was very bland the bun was soggy onions weren't cooked service was terrible
(1)Tim M.
We got a lobster fondue appetizer and it was absolutely amazing. My gf got black pepper Jack chicken and it was great. I got the chicken parm and it was above average although it needed way more sauce.. all in all it was a great first experience!
(4)Julie D.
Harmony Inn has a reputation. For being haunted. Luckily for me, we saw no evidence of this when we visited. We stopped by for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The dining room was empty, so we decided we eat in the bar. The bartender service was fairly entertaining. I got a buffalo chicken wrap, BJ got a hamburger. Everything was good. Nice local hangout.
