A bit of New England Seafood Charm and Flavors Arrived early afternoon only one car in parking lot - usually makes me nervous LOL. Anyway went into dining room where we were pleasantly greeted. Service was prompt, friendly and; decor seaworthy. We looked over the lunch menu and decided on an appetizer, soup and salad. The Mrs. and I always share.. Steamed Clams Once again a surprise. Clams were arranged on plate with a small bowl of dipping juice. No accompanying bread. The Mrs and I are used to having them served in bowl prepared with wine, onion, garlic et al. Good but a wee bit disappointing. Scallops Could have been a 5 star review.I had asked the server to please ensure the pan seared scallops were sufficiently caramelized. When served I thought darn they never do sear them enough and didn't say anything. They were however very sweet and tasty, The two sides were asparagus and rice pilaf. Overall a nice dish I did speak with the server and she did recall I had asked for them to be prepared as pan fried and seared and stated what I already knew I should have said something.. Oh well my bad.. LOL Broiled Haddock Once again could have been 5 star. The Mrs said the Haddock was excellent however much of it was stuck to the serving dish in which the fish was broiled. She had the same two sides as I, asparagus and rice pilaf Cheesecake Excellent, we shared a slice, large serving and great texture and flavor. I asked our server if this was provided by a commercial or local bakery and I was told they make them on premises. Oh happy day!

First I will thank Bay City restaurant for opening their banquet room to accommodate the large number of guest expected on Mother's Day. However they did not have enough staff to handle the guest. It took 1/2 hour to go get our drinks and have order taken. Our waitress was assigned to 6- 8 person tables without the help of an assistant. There was no runner to bring the hot food. The food although was good, it was not cold but very close to cold. The pace of the meal was too slow. We spent too much time waiting for the next step of our meal.

There really isn't much to say other than its not good . I ate here once and never again. Place is outdated . Small portions I ordered 11 dollars worth of shrimp and got a few on a saucer it was pretty pathetic.

Both service and food exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

My wife and I secured this location for our weddings reception. The staff and coordinator were horrible to us! The keep trying to push us out, even though we were ahead of schedule, because the coordinator allowed her friend a wedding back to back with ours so we had to rush everything through. She tried charging us for "extra people" that came but when we counted.. He had less! Not more! Also when my friend went back inside to grab our cake they allowed the staff to eat our cake! I would not recommend this place to anyone! Horrible!

My wife and I and my folks went to Bay City Restaurant for lunch on Saturday. I have to admit I was very pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is very large in size, with banquet area at one end. I would say the decor is a bit dated, however it is a very clean restaurant and the carpet and seating is in excellent shape. We all enjoyed our lunch meals, I had the pasta of the day. Seafood was excellent, cooked to perfection - not over done, and it had just the right amount of pasta, not too much. Wife had the combo meal - crab imperial and shrimp. Again, crab was very good quality and the shrimp cooked perfectly. My folks also enjoyed their meals. Definitely will be back to eat at Bay City restaurant. I live about an hour away, so I will not be a frequent diner, but I imagine a couple times a year I will make the trip to enjoy some more good seafood.

Have been here several times since we moved into the area. And sadly we have seen it go down the drain. Gave it one last shot. Service was not very good even though only 4 tables were seated while we were, the salad was gross with slimy lettuce and the main course was on par with Long John Silvers. Needless to say we have crossed Bay City off our list for good. Such a shame it used to be great.

Update: my husband and I decided to go back to give it another try. As soon as we walked in the door the stench of old fish hit us. I lost my appetite and gagged at the smell. We immediately walked out.

One word..... HORRIBLE. Don't waste you're time. I gave 1 star only because you have to pick a rating.

I don't write many reviews , but , decided I better share my experience. My sister planned a Birthday dinner for my mom at Bay City. I live out of town and was not familiar with the restaurant, so I got on their website researched their menu and then checked out the reviews. The I thought were somewhat negative so I panicked and called my sister, asking her if she was sure she really wanted to go here. We continued with plans she assured me she never had a bad experience. We had a party of eight , we all ordered appetizers or soup and we all ordered a seafood meal. I myself ordered the stuffed rock fish with a spinach salad and a baked potato. Every one in the party enjoyed their meal, salads , soups and drinks were also great. My experience he was surprisingly top notch considering the other reviews I read. It's primarily a seafood restaurant . Decor is traditional seafood - nautical theme it's tasteful the place seemed real clean. Bath rooms were very clean. I have no complaints at all and consider myself somewhat picky . Yes you could roll in here maybe on a crazy busy night and have a bad experience that can happen anywhere. But, Our experience was awesome. the service was top- notch also.

First time visit on 2/28/15, a Friday night. Parking lot was full. Waited about 10 minutes to be seated. my husband and I ordered the combination, he got the imperal crab cake and coconut shrimp. I got grilled salmon and coconut shrimp. I received a 4oz piece of salmon and 7 or 8 coconut shrimp, citrus sauce for shrimp was very sweet but okay. Salmon was very good. My husbands crab cake was good and so was the coconut shrimp. I thought for what I got it was rather pricey, but the food was good.

The service was horrible! People were actually getting up and leaving because they weren't getting service ! We were out on deck , when we needed another drink we had to go into bar to get it ourselves. Food was eh. But service absolutely horrible!!!

Bay City was one of the restaurants the front desk of the hotel recommended when I first came to Hanover, so I finally got a chance to check it out. ATMOSPHERE The moment I stepped into the restaurant, I was hit with the aroma of delicious seafood. The smell of boiled shellfish is borderline overwhelming. Also, the restaurant is covered in the Bay side motif with lighthouses, seagulls, shells, and more lighthouses. The crowd leans toward the older side. Almost everybody in the restaurant except for me had a little grey in their hair. SERVICE The waitress was a little slow at tending to me at first, but quickly caught up to speed and did a great job of bringing out my food promptly. FOOD I ordered the broiled crab cake with a side salad and asparagus. The side salad tasted like the bagged salad that you get from the grocery store - pretty average. The asparagus had flavor from the butter, but I prefer my asparagus less buttery and with a tad bit more salt. The crab cake would've been near perfection, except that the very first bite I took had a bit of crab shell in it :( Most of the other tables were there for the Wednesday special which was a bucketful of seafood, especially king crab legs. You could hear the other tables banging on the table trying to break the shells. I'd say if you're in the mood for seafood, you probably can't go wrong. But bring a senior friend :)

Every thing was good but disappointed in the oysters. They did not seem real .The service was excellent. Cream of crab soup was excellent. DRAFT beer prices were a little high. We would return to eat there.

Everything was over cooked....small portions for the money and most of the food was cold. Will not be returning.

I came here because a friend had posted on facebook that she was here. Turns out it wasnt the food that brought her here, it was the outdoor seating with smoking allowed. I ate indoors in the dining room and was completely underwhelmed. The food wasn't bad but it was pricey for what it was. It was 2 months ago that i was here, so the details are a little fuzzy but i remember making a mental note that i don't need to come back without good reason.

The atmosphere is like a time warp and not a good one. Feels like the 80's and the food is stuck there too. We had a private party in the banquet room and had a seafood plate. Crab cakes, fish, shrimp, scallops, mussels and some veggies. Everything was extremely over cooked and awfully fishy tasting. Would never come back. It's scary if this is considered a good restaurant in Hanover, I would even want to step foot in the rest.

I used to really love this place. I have a lot of memories here as a kid, my parents loved the place.. it's been in town for as long as I can remember. Seems as though their service has slipped quite a bit though... arrived here in the late afternoon one day, the parking lot barely had any cars. My friend and I requested a booth but instead, we were sat in a table. We tried to deal with it, but it was really awkward... we were smack in the middle of people and it just wasn't comfortable. We asked to be moved, and we were told no. Okay... big mistake. You never tell a customer "no". I was a server for 5+ years while I was in school, and I always served people out of my section if I had to, so they could sit where they wanted. My friend and I were going to deal because we were starving, but waited 10 minutes and a server never showed up... we left. Hopefully this place hasn't gone completely downhill. I really want to visit this place again and come out with a better review.

If there is a need for Gordon Ramsey to come to Hanover and give an update to a longtime local place Bay City would be the one. Same old menu style from well over 20 years ago. A basic fried fish sandwich can be fantastic, they serve it on toasted slice white bread, sad slices of tomatoes and lettuce on the side. Even the crab cake sandwich was on basic wonder bread. We did go in for lunch and quite honestly have not been in for over 10 years and looking at the out of date menu was enough to know we would not go back for dinner or lunch again. Finding a nice place to enjoy a meal with a glass of wine is very hard in PA. I'd love to see advertising of Bay City promoting new fresher menu, use of local seasonal foods. Good food isn't complicated or scary, but Bay City is probably leaning on the bar scene to bring in $$ where the food is terribly lacking.
