The Blue Comet is open for business again!!! Just in time for summer too! See you all there in your Rockabilly best!

You gotta love a bar that has a sign on the tv that says "Talk to the person next to you." The people who hang there are cool (no attitude) and the drinks are strong. And the staff is awesome. This is now my new favorite place to get some work done...I can bring my laptop, plug it in with my wi-fi card and tap tap tap away. And they'll bring me french fries with a side of honey mustard so I'm a happy girl.

I consider the Blue Comet to be one of the best bar and grills in Abington. The husband and wife team in the kitchen does a stellar job on quality and the bar tenders maintain a laundry list of cocktails to rival the best in Philadelphia. Andrew and Tim do their very best to ensure hospitality and individual attention while tending a very lively establishment and managed by a pleasant but professional Liz. Scott, the owner, runs a tight shop with a steadfast attention to cleanliness, ambiance and hospitality and if you're there long enough you might catch a glimpse of him as he runs a routine check and resupply, ensuring that his high standards are being met. While other bars come and go in the Glenside area, telegraphing their pending failure through poor quality and childish attitudes, the Comet remains a vibrant hub of activity welcoming customers, both regular and first timers, with a genuine friendliness and a readiness to make your stay the best experience you'll have.

my best friend and I met up here randomly on a Sunday night as a spot halfway between our houses. It was awesome! The wine pours were generous, the bartender was friendly and did just the right amount of eavesdropping to make sure we were all set, jumping in with some good suggestions. Although we were only drinking wine, the bartender was muddling up some nice classic cocktails, toasting lemon peels and all that jazz. The mussels were all we ate but were very fresh and cooked properly. They were good on ambiance too, adjusting the lighting down after the dinner rush for the bar crowd. Very cute spot with an old-timey vibe, and a municipal parking lot half a block away that's free after 6pm.

Came here with a girlfriend for a nice night of catching up. We had no idea that this place was going to be so busy!!! We had to wait a bit for a table, but the bar was stocked and the bar tenders were on their A-game so it could have been worse. By the time we sat down, we had drank a few beers, so we were relieved to see grilled cheese bites on the list, and i was even more relieved to see them come out so fast! And the fact that they were basically 2 grilled cheeses cut into 1/4s was also interseting news. Given their name, i was expecting something cooler, but i was so hungry i didn't care. The dipping sauce, reminiscent of tomato soup, was fabulous! I got a spinach salad which was really fresh, very good, and hit the mark. Vegetarian options here were really minimal. They could really benefit from a grilled veggie hoagie or something healthy and yummy for the non-carnivores. I also got a side of mashed potatos with blue cheese. They were pretty amazing, but i would have liked to taste a bit more blue cheese. It was a bit weak. Generally, service here was fabulous, the food was very good, and the atmosphere was fun. I had a nice time. Just would have liked some more options and less of a wait, but 1st world problems really...

This place is so close to the GLENSIDE TrainStation it is a must try. We ve been there many times and enjoy it. The outdoor garden in the back is lovely. The food is terrific. We had the best service there last Friday. The bathrooms are tiny but finally improved. The atmosphere is sort of hummmmmm. We always go with a group so it doesn't really matter.

Stopped here with a few friends on our way to DC and I am so happy we did. The ambiance is swanky - a cool diner feel and the chicken sandwich was really good. The chicken was cooked perfectly - moist and seasoned well, and the bun was nice fluffy. If I ever am in town again def. will check this spot out again.

What a great experience. Stopped by late on a Sunday for some dinner, pleasantly surprised by excellent food and service! Would definitely return again soon. Get the tenderloin sandwich, it's delicious.

Sunday night rockabilly is great. the live band really get you in the mood, the bartenders are nice, service is great, drinks are perfectly mixed. only downfall is the size of this place, its TINY :( which is the only reason it didn't get a 100% amazing star rating. parking - you can easily park in the train station lot (its across the street) or even just take the train.

fantastic drinks, great food, and cool, friendly bartenders. Sat at the bar last night and had a great light dinner of salads and stuff, and some amazing drinks, all for less that an entree at some restaurants. Didn't have wine, but watching the bartenders pour, the size of the servings was amazing. Martinis $6 with top shelf booze. Cant go wrong with this place, and great atmosphere as well.

We were in search of a late night, mid-week meal and were referred to Blue Comet. It was more than we could have hoped for. Not only did they serve dinner until midnight but the menu was fantastic and so was the food. This is a great blend of a local bar with good food and just the right touch of class.

Sadly, the Blue Comet closed. I'll always remember it as a great no-frills casual bar with some great food and a good beer selection. Now who's going to make my Peanut Butter Bacon Cheeseburgers now!?

Oh no! According to Yelp, Blue Comet has closed! Too bad! I'm gonna miss this place. Does anyone know when it closed, or when it is going to close? Its a bit of a drive for me to check. I'd like to hang there one more time.

Cool little bar. GREAT FOOD! Worth waiting at the bar to get a table. Even if you are not a die hard rock a billy fan it is a fun place for a change of pace. I agree with the other review - could be considered posh if you think that is a good thing. Certainly worth checking out how a small little place can be creating such a buzz. The only down side to writing this is risking a long wait for a table. Proof that size isn't everything when it comes to kitchen size and quality and creativity. Then again I tend to be biased towards smaller non-franchise places.

I love the blue comet! It's a little small and hard to get a seat sometimes (like Sunday evenings when the place is hopping), but that's part of its charm. The music is incredible and the atmosphere is unbeatable. If you're a rebel without a cause... go here! The staff and regulars are super-great people. Highly highly recommended.

I've been to Blue Comet twice before my latest experience and had good food, good drinks, good service. I cannot say that for this last time. My boyfriend and I went there for dinner and drinks before a show at the Keswick. Our show was at 8pm and we got to Blue Comet at about 6:45. We sat at the bar because there weren't any tables available and waited a couple minutes before the bartender came down to where we were sitting. It took another few minutes to get menus and again for him to return to take our order. We placed our order around 7pm for grilled cheese bites, a spinach salad, and a meatloaf sandwich. It took a half hour for grilled cheese "bites" to come out, which were literally two grilled cheese sandwiches cut up in quarters. By 7:45, we asked for our check and the servers realized we STILL did not get our food. They told us they would check on it and miraculously came walking out of the kitchen with it. We scarfed our food down and left. Before we left while we were still waiting for our food, there was another couple a little ways down the bar that was having the same issue and ordered two salads. They apparently did not leave a tip because the bartender had a hissy-cursing fit about it in front of us and other patrons. It was completely unprofessional and the staff seemed to have no idea what they were doing overall. We also overheard them actually complaining about being busy. Bottom line, I won't be going back to Blue Comet.

Mix drinks with real ingredients, great food, and Rockabillly night have set the Blue Comet apart from the rest of bars in the burbs for the better part of the last decade. Even a two-year hiatus could not take away the Comet's crown. This bar may be the only that gets less divey every year. In fact, I may even call this bar posh now? Who would have thought that 10+ years ago?

Yelpers come through once again: Blue Comet is a "GREAT Yelp find," to quote Yelper Michael N. BC is a fairly small place with perhaps a dozen tables and a very long bar. Most of the tables are booths, which adds to the cozy feeling of the place. The walls are adorned with vintage prints and concert bills, as well as vintage service-ware. I had mussels red, and they were fresh and oh-so-tender (melted in the mouth) in a vibrant, herbaceous pool of marinara. The sauce begged to be sopped up with crusty bread, which our lovely waitperson spontaneously delivered. Just a side-note about the service: It was outstanding. My mussel shell discard bowl was emptied three times (well before any precarious stacking) by three different waitstaff. The staff works as a team, and whomever spots a need just addresses it. Fabulous, old-economy service. Mr. M had the roasted pepper and provolone burger and so enjoyed it that silence fell over the table. On Yelpers' recommendations, we shared an order of mighty delicious onion rings. The crust was crisp and the onion was sweet. BC is a keeper (although we were sad to learn that the live music has been suspended), and we look forward to many return visits.

First time dinning here and it was nice. We ate inside and the ambiance was comfortable. Waiters were super friendly and helpful, food was good. Nice date night spot. Wings are on the smaller side but the hot sauce is fantastic I got a side of it for my dinner sandwich.

The Blue Comet is a neighborhood institution. Everyone you know has been there at least once except you. Well, really, everyone except me. I love the "Cheers" everybody-knows-your-name feel of the Blue Comet. The staff is exceedingly friendly and chances are you may have played soccer with them as a kid or gone to high school together because this place is all about keeping it local. Even if you're new to the place, you will still get greeted as if you already belong. If you want to eat, I recommend heading over early. This small space can be pretty crowded by 6:30pm. If if's a Saturday or Sunday, you'll have even fewer seating options as local musical talent like the Gin Canaries take over the stage where they usually have high-tops. The drinks are strong and the drink specials, like $2 PBR's and $6 martinis and Manhattans, are a good incentive to unwind after a long work week. The food is heavy on the comfort options that will soak up all the booze you imbibe - wings, fish and chips, meatloaf, burgers. They also feature specials and a fish of the day as well. The room can get a bit loud when the live music is going and people are chattering away, so factor that in when you think about bringing out-of-town guests or older relatives. Yes, they serve french fries, but don't bring the kiddies - it's not the kind of neighborhood bar where everyone will put up with your hipster toddler.

My new favorite dive bar that's not so divey. $6 martinis on Sunday and $2 PBR. This girls in heaven. Great wings can't wait to come back and try a burger. Great Live rockabilly band and a ecliptic crowd. I will continue to come here on Sundays because it's my new fab bar. Excellent bar tenders!!!

Peanut butter and bacon burger. Get it! I'm a burger classicist I guess you could say because I don't normally go for any fancy fixin's or seemingly random ingredients, but all the other Yelpers ain't wrong. This mug was succulent, messy goodness ensconced in a bun. The PB was super smooth and freshly made. I'm pretty sure I sopped up all the drippings with the french fries I ordered as a side (it usually comes with chips). I was feeling particularly greedy on this day--I hit a pothole and was killing time while my car got repaired at the Pep Boys down the street--so when she mentioned that the soup of the day was Maryland cream of crab, I opted for a cup of that too. Y'all. I'm sure more shameless things have happened at a bar, but I'mma put my finger-licking-scraping-the-cup-and-spoon among one of the all-time showings. It was amazing. Seriously. They should serve it all the time. I want some more right now, actually. I washed everything down with a draft beer and then I went for a li'l extra because when it comes to me and eatin' out, I'm almost always extra. My dark 'n stormy was righteous. Kudos to Jen for using fresh ginger puree (they didn't have ginger beer). It gave it a li'l something zippier and springier which I frankly appreciated. Oh my gosh, I'm all over the place with this review, but I feel like I have so much to say about this place. It's a neighborhood gem if I've ever known one--a diamond in fact. First of all, the atmosphere is not at all what I expected when I ambled up to the little round porthole-y door. I thought I was going to walk in to find a bunch of well-worn leather seats and neighborly gents, but instead it was nice 'n cozy, full of great kitsch, a family with kids, some couples and a few single sippers like me! It seems like all of my gran's pitcher and glass sets found the happiest of homes here, along with a few of her other favorite pictures, posters and artifacts. The decor combined with the sweet sounds of some Ella (on a pretty stellar playlist) ensured I felt plenty comfortable immediately. Jen was tending bar and she was awesome. So friendly and warm and funny. Everyone was just like this honestly. They give you the kind of friendly service that makes you wonder why you've never been in there or why you don't just come all the time ... which, exactly. You should just go any and all the time!

The chili and martini's were great but even better was Jenn the waitress! We enjoyed the creamy carrot soup which was really yummy. Buffalo shrimp were scrumptious. This joint is a real sleeper and could turn out to be a new hangout for us. With them bringing back live music at some point this may really rock!!

You wouldn't know it from the outside (or inside) decor, but Blue Comet produces truly elegant and refreshing dishes. I stopped in for dinner after a long day of work, and was pleasantly surprised by the quick service and delicious, carefully prepared meal. Not sure how it is on weekends, but I also appreciated the lack of noise that is typical of other bars.

Now this was a great Yelp find. While I'm not sure of the exact age of this bar, it appears that it's been around for a while... well with that late 70s Mad Men vibe. It's a very cool spot. It also seems like a very local spot, which I get, although I almost had a feeling one of the locals was going to pay off the host to get our table reservation for the busy Saturday night. Luckily that did not happen. When we finally got a seat, we were greeted by warm holiday music from the "stage" a few feet away. I use that term loosely as this place is ridiculously small, so the stage is pretty much the corner of the room. Anyway, if you're not a fan of music while you're eating or drinking, don't come here, it can get loud. As for the food. Excellent. Those onion rings looked great from the picture and they were even better in real life. We also went with the crab balls (basically mini crab cakes deep fried) and they were to die for. As for the entree, I took a chance and went with the burger with bacon and .... peanut butter. I made the right choice. The drinks kept flowing too. $6 martinis... how can you go wrong? I generally only make it to Glenside for a show at the Keswick, but I have a feeling I have a new reason to come back to Glenside.

no.. terrible waitress service.... they practically forgot about us. I was ready to pull out my bitchy NY attitude at one of them and be like wtf is going on. but thankfully, they had a nice waitress who attended us very well once she got the sense i was superbly annoyed and was very attentivie to us. Then other waitress that started us off and neglected us had the balls to come back and ask if everything's okay AFTER the work has been done by the other waitress. I hope that waitress did not think she was credit/tip from me cuz she did nothing. also, the food was honestly not that great. onion rings were alright, they were standard. the burger..... is nothing special. dunno why everyone likes that peanut butter whatever burger. but it was not that great and my bf loves burgers and he was just ok with it.

I had about an hour for lunch and so I decided to stay close enough so that I can get away yet not so far that I would feel rushed and this spot popped up. Now, I wasn't going to try this place at first until I skimmed the reviews and something about their peanut butter and bacon burger that just caught my eye. And wow, it was quite delightful. And I mean in a have melted peanut butter dripping down your hands and arms, crisp lettuce crunching, ketchup around your mouth, eye opening delightful. And to top it off, the fries are a very generous portion. I asked for more pickle and they happily got me some more which was awesome. I honestly went expecting to enjoy my beer and be disappointed in the burger but it ended up the other way around. The burger was great and the beer was a bit disappointing. I'm a bit of a Guinness snob so I know what I want when it comes to a Guinness. The pour has to be perfect and considering this place wasn't Guinness certified I shouldn't have expected the perfect Guinness pour but it was decent. If only the beer was perfect then this would've definitely been a 5 star hit. Service was awesome and the waitress stopped by often and asked if I wanted a refill, etc. This is one satisfied customer and I'll be back again for that burger. Parking: Limited metered street or metered lot (quarters only, $0.25 per hour) Price: $8+ per person Wait: None

If you live in Glenside, you have to try the Blue Comet. At least once. Come on. I've gone here to hang out or kill some time a handful of times before finally trying it for dinner on 3/30/2012. Having dinner there is a challenge for someone with vegetarian/vegan leanings. Even their few veg options involve some butter so when it comes to their food, there probably are no actual Vegan options. Before the food, highlights of the atmosphere: dark lighting and a great 40s-50s film noir theme that I love. The place is named for a train from back in the day. They have really nice outdoor seating in the back. Beware though, this can fill with smokers. On a Friday night, dinner time will be loud, so know that. They have live music starting at 6 on Saturday nights. My vegetarian attack on their meat and fish laden menu yielded positive results. The onion rings were fine but nothing special. The bruschetta was quite good though. Probably the best restaurant bruschetta I've had. It comes on three pieces of toast that are like a garlic bread. Lots of bruschetta and its really tasty. My entree was the grilled peanut butter and jelly. Think grilled cheese but with peanut butter and jelly. My wife could make it at home but it was cheap and tasty so I was happy with it. Overall, I'm a big fan of the Blue Comet. Great local establisment with a unique atmosphere. Next time I'll get the bruschetta and the grilled peanut butter and jelly and be very happy.

Great service! Friendly bartenders and amazing drinks. Amazing food & awesome live music. The music on the overhead is also pretty great when the bands are not playing. Best bar in Glenside & surrounding areas, hands down.

Found this spot on Yelp. Thought I would try it out. Nice little hidden place. Easy to get to by public transportation. I was not disappointed. The food was tasty and I had the fish and chips and mussels for appetizer. I will definitely be back again.

Lately, I've come to utilize the Blue Comet more for the restaurant than the bar. It has typical bar and grill food, but also full restaurant style entrees including fresh fish. I have mostly ordered the burgers and sandwiches, but I've always been happy with my meal. The staff are friendly and helpful. I've noticed that the place can be very quiet at weekday lunches. That in combination with very low lighting may tempt you to curl up in your booth for a nap after lunch.

I don't live in Glenside, but I come down either to the Keswick or taking my continuing education classes in HR Block. This is one of the places I stop at. First off, the atmosphere is what really makes the place unique. Its a 40s-50s atmosphere by the lighting and occasional music of that era. There is a TV but it is turned off and the sign says, "Talk to the person next to you." I haven't had anything but the burger, but the burger is very good and cook just right with crispy bacon on top. And both the burger and beer are top notch in quality, but also low in price. Some have mentioned about the service. My feelings are that while it is not perfect, I had some not so good, but there are some excellent servers. The last server, I don't know her name, but she was great. She was very chatty with all the patrons and the way she talked to you, you two felt like we were old friends. Not here often and sometimes I am in the mood for Greek food so I go to Athena, but a nice stop when I am in Glenside.

I happened upon the Blue Comet while searching the Glenside area for drinks and noms before a show at the Keswick. I checked the menu on the website in advance, and was pleased to see that I could choose from several vegetarian items, including some salads. However, when I sat at the bar, I was handed a menu that was a quarter of the size of the one on the website. Hmm. No salads. So I basically could do grilled cheese, mozzarella sticks, or fries. I went with the grilled cheese, which was a standard g.c. but on marble rye bread. My friend had the peanut butter bacon burger and there wasn't a scrap left on her plate. The beer menu was decent, and I enjoyed some of the Hacker-Pschorr they had on draft. I may have also had some Jameson. MAY HAVE. I hadn't seen my friend in a bit so was looking forward to catching up but less than a minute after we sat down, the rockabilly duo started. They were super loud, but good. For an okay meal, good drinks, and fun music, this is a solid option for a pre-concert stop.

The only reason the Blue Comet didn't get five stars was the service. It was BAD. Two waitstaff in a full restaurant on a concert night at the Keswick. BAD. That being said, we still had a good night. We sat outside by the fountain and coy pond which was lovely. We ordered hoegarten and guiness. Yum. Then we tried to order clams (sorry we are out) then mussels (sorry we are out) I felt like the kid in the Santa Clause who couldn't get anything on Christmas Eve at denny's. I finally ordered aged provolone and red peppers---FANTASTIC! Served a top crispy garlic bread. YUM!!!!!!! For dinner my friend got a chicken sandwich with bacon and provolone that she loved and I got the peanut butter bacon burger...which they forgot to put in the computer, but I didn't care once I got it. HEAVEN. If you go, I'd skip going when there's a show at the Keswick, but the food....devine.

The Blue Comet is exactly how I pictured it all those times I drove by while it was closed: not swanky, but certainly fly. The waitress had a flower in her hair and the bartender was wearing a tie. I was bummed I wasn't there on a rockabilly Sunday, but the Billie Holiday blasting was extremely welcomed to my ears. And welcomed to my belly was the FANTASTIC peanut butter and bacon burger. It was so good altogether, but its parts were amazing as well-- the bacon was perfectly prepared. And I'm not a huge fan of french fries, but the ones I got with my burger were some of the best I've had in a long, long time. And to think I wouldn't have gotten them had I not been tricked by the waitress! (She asked if I wanted fries or chips, and I chose fries, not knowing that they're considered a substitution for which they charge extra. But they're worth it.) Specials include $2 PBR and $6 martinis and Manhattans. But regular prices won't put you back too far anyway.
(4)
Richard R.
The atmosphere was fantastic, and there was ample parking nearby. Not much on the menu if you're a vegan, but a single order of french fries was large enough to satisfy. As others have mentioned, the service is bizarrely poor. We didn't have an assigned server; they would just wander past our table repeatedly unless we waved them over. For the number of servers and the number of tables in the place, it didn't really make sense for them to expect customers to get their attention. Oh well.

Solid music, food, and service. It's billy rock, swing, old pop music - and the food is beatnik but quite swanky. I dig the onion rings and meat loaf sandwich. This is officially our local bar - on the rare night we have a sitter.

I can't believe that this is in our backyard & it's the first time we've been here. The the trio (soprano sax, bass & guitar) is backing up a GREAT "Girl Singer". I feel like I should go home & change into my usual summer garb, linen & spectator wingtips AND the food was great, service even better.

I love this bar! It is conspicuous and you wouldn't expect much from the looks of the out front. The inside has an awesome 50s lounge vibe (not overly themed though that it's goofy... it feels like a genuine blast from the past) I went in late last Saturday hoping for some food and that their kitchen would still be open. We caught it just in time (sometime after 11pm) and I was pleasantly surprised to still be served really delicious and fresh food! (Just because you know what can come from a kitchen late nite when you're the jerk who wandered in and made them turn the grill back on...) The coolest secret about this place is the beautiful garden patio area to sit out back.. once again, you'd never expect it.. I have yet to come for Rockabilly Sundays with live music and hot rods.. but I promise I'll be back for that sometime soon!

Nice pub here in Glenside. Open late... and serves food late. Good mixed drinks and liquor selection (don't know a lot about liquor, but they have Hendrick's Gin and a selection of single malt scotches... so not the standard crap). Menu is simple, but the food is good. If they put two or three good craft beers on tap, I'd never go to Union Jack's again.

I'm only giving 3 stars because I only had a few drinks there. The bartender was excellent and funny. Always quick with a joke. Beer selection was ok, but for a small lounge, I guess it's fine. Don't be fooled by the outside appearance. The snide is modern and welcoming. In the back there is a terrace with ivy covered walls and a fountain. Very beautiful.

Just stopped in for dinner before the show at keswick. Nice atmosphere, pure neighborhood bar. But the food was very good. Wife's steak was better than average, my blackened flounder was somewhere between blackened and pan fried but had good seasoning and tasted fresh. Not quite diner drive in and dives level but they're trying and it shows. Service was excellent, we were seated instantly the waiter was great and attentive, everything came in a very timely manner. Overall a very good experience. There was live music, a little loud, hard to talk but not a big negative.

Great bar food and good beer choices, I say "bar" food because you may be underwhelmed if you try some of the pricier menu items. I tried the Smothered Steak and was not impressed, however the fries and sides including the salad were great - so bar food is my call next time I go to the Comet. Prices are very reasonable. A minor side annoyance is that the web site is out of date and nonfunctional, which is a shame because I wanted to check the schedule and go see some of the Rockabilly acts that the Blue Comet is known for.

2/6/13. Update update: from 4 stars to 2. Sadly, the kitchen at the Comet has gone downhill. We have been here for dinner on several occasions over the last 6 months or so and it's worse every time. One night, my steak teriyaki salad was inedible and was sent back. Second try was only slightly better. The last time, a few weeks ago, was so dreadful that I seriously doubted we would ever go back for dinner. The soup was overly thickened and salty. The meat loaf, usually a favorite, tasted old and dry and reheated on the grill, frozen apps were unappealing at best. Sauteed veggies were swimming in grease, overcooked, mushy and horrible. $84 for the worst meal ever. Sorry, Blue Comet. I still think its a great place to have a drink, but the kitchen needs a lot of improvement for us to come back to eat.

I've been back two times since my last visit. The air conditioning was working, the taps operating well also. The beer selection was just OK. The service is very good. I ordered a scallops entree special which was unmemorable, but the sides were excellent. The other time I revisited I got a burger, it was very good. Both times I went back were on weeknights and the crowd was sparse. This place definitely feels better and looks better to the senses with a full crowd, it takes the edge off of the dinginess. I will return, I'm looking for something there, I want to find something to keep me coming back besides the friendly bartenders.

Martini-- Reefer Madnesssss! So delish! One recent Friday night we went here without our son (who is alway in tow), as we were unsure if it was "a bar". However, he could easily have sat with us at our lovely booth in the back. On nights they have bands, children are not welcome, but otherwise yes (said my server). I could not decide just what to drink (no drink menu, no wine menu), after the server told us their specialty is pre-prohibition cocktails, she suggested a new concoction by the bartender --"Reefer Madness", an absolutely AMAZING tasty blend of gin, basil and who knows what--but I had 2 or ...was it 3? We also had the chili cheese fries which were mega tasty. I also love the retro style of this place!

Meh. We went here before a show at the Keswick on recommendation of a friend. Although the service was friendly (as it says on the sign out front), it was not very attentive. Had to ask for our salads after our entrees came out. Also had to repeatedly ask for drink refills. The ambiance was great, but the food was average. Seems like the perfect neighborhood place for beer and music though.

Went here pre-show with a $15/30 groupon. A cool, small bar/restaurant in the heart of downtown Glenside To me the sign of a good place is all of the waitstaff working in tandem. We didn't need to wait for refills or table clearing, whoever was near took care of it. The specials were tempting and we opted for the shrimp & potato skins w/mornay sauce - fast, delicious and unique. We each had a salad, hers an oriental beef and mine a white chicken salad. The food was very good, nice selection of beers on tap and a small but drinkable wine list. A log of smiling faces and a good vibe at this place. My only regret was not buying the maximum number of groupons when they were available.

I feel like I should like this place more than I do...it gets a ton of points for being a unique joint, and "cool" place to hang...no yuppie scum here. But at the same time the crowd comes across as a bit lost in its own idealism...like a group of people didn't realize that slicked back-hair and hotrods really aren't cool anymore. Still, it can be a lively place (especially by the standards of the neighborhood), and some genuinely nice people will hang out here. Oh yea, I saw Brian Setzer here once...so...thats something (it was really him, not the 20 other guys here on any given night who look just like him).

The Blue Comet is back and, in my opinion, better than ever. This great little Glenside bar still has the same retro vibe it always did, with the art deco bar set-up, low lighting, pin-ups on the walls, old photos and vintage advertisements. But it got an upgrade with a fresh coat of paint, new booths (to replace the old cracked vinyl ones) and new bar stools. The menu's the same as it always was and the food is just as good. The bruschetta comes on great big toasts. The peanut butter-bacon burger is surprisingly delicious. And the meatloaf is amazing. I went with The Husband and some friends a few weeks ago - right after it reopened. The meatloaf lived up to my memories of its awesomeness, but I think I got more (3 slices) than they used to give (2 slices). I'm OK with that. I went again last night with a friend. I ordered the grilled ham and cheese. (Sometimes you just want something basic, you know?) The only bread choices were white and rye (I chose white), which was a little disappointing until my meal came. I got TWO sandwiches because, the waitress said, "the bread was small." They were made with nice, thick slices of Italian bread. And I think the butter used to grill them had a little bit of garlic or some other spice in it. Yum. If you're looking for a great little bar, you've got to try The Comet.

When I lived closer, I used to go to the Comet several times a week, and I was very sad when it closed. I went back last night for the first time since they reopened and I felt like I never left. All the changes seem like improvements, but subtle so it still seems familiar. They added a HUGE and beautiful back patio area that makes me wonder what was in that space all along! We ordered some old favorite drinks and food - including what has always been one of the best tuna melts around. One of the best parts of the evening was when the check came and I remembered I was in the suburbs - a round of 5 Hendricks and tonics came to under $35!

After 22 months it's back in business. Sundays are the banner night but even lunch on a Monday is a class act. Food great, I had the cheeseburger club. Beer ice cold, Pabst cans. Music, Bill Haley & his comets amongst other greats. Attentive wait staff & the prices are fair. All hail the comet.

The Comet has reopened just in time for my husband and I's 5th year dateversary this weekend! Yay! We ordered cheesesteaks last week and they gave us rolls and salad.....the Comet's gone all fancy! hee hee The smoke stains are gone from the walls, but they painted it the same color. The naughty lingerie pics are still up....but I do miss the "CIGAR" sign. I guess no smoking policies have their cost. They added some cool glass block insets to the one wall which brightens it up a bit (little bit). Why do I love this place so much? Probably because I had my first date with my husband here!

update! open again, with an outdoor smoking lounge out back, which is so secluded and wonderful. Menu is the same as before. Andrew is running the bar and making fresh mint and basil drinks which are delicious!

I am so excited to hear they are back in business. I used to love Sunday nights there. The rockabilly scene is cool, but if that's not you you wont feel out of place. The bar draws pretty much every walk of life. It's a great atmosphere. Oh, and if you order drinks with orange juice in them, they always squeeze it fresh in front of you.

We always go with a group so it doesn't really matter.

fantastic drinks, great food, and cool, friendly bartenders.

Solid music, food, and service. It's billy rock, swing, old pop music - and the food is beatnik but quite swanky. I dig the onion rings and meat loaf sandwich. This is officially our local bar - on the rare night we have a sitter.

Oh well.

Sadly, the Blue Comet closed. I'll always remember it as a great no-frills casual bar with some great food and a good beer selection. Now who's going to make my Peanut Butter Bacon Cheeseburgers now!?

You gotta love a bar that has a sign on the tv that says "Talk to the person next to you." The people who hang there are cool (no attitude) and the drinks are strong. And the staff is awesome. This is now my new favorite place to get some work done...I can bring my laptop, plug it in with my wi-fi card and tap tap tap away. And they'll bring me french fries with a side of honey mustard so I'm a happy girl.

We were in search of a late night, mid-week meal and were referred to Blue Comet. It was more than we could have hoped for. Not only did they serve dinner until midnight but the menu was fantastic and so was the food. This is a great blend of a local bar with good food and just the right touch of class.

no.. terrible waitress service.... they practically forgot about us.

Went here during lunch with a few co-workers. I ordered the chicken cheesesteak. It was average, nothing to rave about.

Alison S.

The chili and martini's were great but even better was Jenn the waitress! We enjoyed the creamy carrot soup which was really yummy. Buffalo shrimp were scrumptious.

(4)
Rebecca B.
my best friend and I met up here randomly on a Sunday night as a spot halfway between our houses.

I generally only make it to Glenside for a show at the Keswick, but I have a feeling I have a new reason to come back to Glenside.

fantastic drinks, great food, and cool, friendly bartenders.

Great staff, well priced drinks and what stands out most is the Peanut Butter Bacon Burger (WOW)! I've spent many a sunday nights at their Rockabilly night, a definite must see.

Solid music, food, and service. It's billy rock, swing, old pop music - and the food is beatnik but quite swanky. I dig the onion rings and meat loaf sandwich. This is officially our local bar - on the rare night we have a sitter.

Oh well.

My only regret was not buying the maximum number of groupons when they were available.

update! open again, with an outdoor smoking lounge out back, which is so secluded and wonderful. Menu is the same as before. Andrew is running the bar and making fresh mint and basil drinks which are delicious!

After 22 months it's back in business. Sundays are the banner night but even lunch on a Monday is a class act. Food great, I had the cheeseburger club. Beer ice cold, Pabst cans. Music, Bill Haley & his comets amongst other greats. Attentive wait staff & the prices are fair. All hail the comet.

We were in search of a late night, mid-week meal and were referred to Blue Comet. It was more than we could have hoped for.

(5)Jleigh V.

(4)Tanya M.
(5)Doris T.
Went here during lunch with a few co-workers. I ordered the chicken cheesesteak. It was average, nothing to rave about.
(3)Danita R.

Food is really just average, staff is not at all friendly. A place I want to like but they don't make it easy.

We love this place! Our go-to watering whole for great, strong drinks and decent food!!
(5)Ted K.

(5)Lisa S.
Great service! Friendly bartenders and amazing drinks. Amazing food & awesome live music. The music on the overhead is also pretty great when the bands are not playing. Best bar in Glenside & surrounding areas, hands down.
(5)Diane W.
Found this spot on Yelp. Thought I would try it out. Nice little hidden place. Easy to get to by public transportation. I was not disappointed. The food was tasty and I had the fish and chips and mussels for appetizer. I will definitely be back again.
(4)Rafael G.
(4)Christopher M.
Uh... their FB page says they have suspended rockabilly for the foreseeable future! NO!!!!!!! I hope this little gem isn't closing. If it is I'll buy it.
(5)Jeff C.
(4)Michelle E.
(3)Alison S.
(4)Paul K.
About time we found a local joint that does all right.
(4)Jon M.
eaten here many times - great service, good food and cheap prices!
(4)Nina B.
(4)Richard R.
Oh well.
(3)M B.
Solid music, food, and service. It's billy rock, swing, old pop music - and the food is beatnik but quite swanky. I dig the onion rings and meat loaf sandwich. This is officially our local bar - on the rare night we have a sitter.
(5)Michael K.
I can't believe that this is in our backyard & it's the first time we've been here. The the trio (soprano sax, bass & guitar) is backing up a GREAT "Girl Singer". I feel like I should go home & change into my usual summer garb, linen & spectator wingtips AND the food was great, service even better.
(5)Kelly C.
(5)Derek D.
Terrific peanut butter bacon burgers, friendly staff and classic atmosphere made for a great dinner.
(5)Adam S.
(3)John R.
(3)Sean S.
(3)Tim R.
Grilled PB&J is chronic!!! Great little pub and grill. Gotta come back for a show!
(4)Superfly T.
(3)E F.
Great staff, well priced drinks and what stands out most is the Peanut Butter Bacon Burger (WOW)! I've spent many a sunday nights at their Rockabilly night, a definite must see.

(2)Brian H.
(3)Krifka S.
(5)Shannon B.
(3)bill c.
(5)Andy S.
(3)Christina K.
(5)JEAN S.
(5)Richard. F.
(5)Linda M.
(4)Casey L.
update! open again, with an outdoor smoking lounge out back, which is so secluded and wonderful. Menu is the same as before. Andrew is running the bar and making fresh mint and basil drinks which are delicious!
(5)Arielle B.
(5)Kevin S.
Oh no! According to Yelp, Blue Comet has closed! Too bad! I'm gonna miss this place. Does anyone know when it closed, or when it is going to close? Its a bit of a drive for me to check. I'd like to hang there one more time.
(4)Joe K.
(5)Jason Z.
(5)Danita R.

$6.50 Macallan 12. Enough said. Burgers good. Solid selection on tap. 6.50 Macallan 12. Praise the Lord oh my soul.

Food is really just average, staff is not at all friendly. A place I want to like but they don't make it easy.
(3)Susanne J.
(4)Tanya M.
(5)Doris T.
Went here during lunch with a few co-workers. I ordered the chicken cheesesteak. It was average, nothing to rave about.
(3)Allie P.
(4)Paul K.
About time we found a local joint that does all right.
(4)Jon M.
eaten here many times - great service, good food and cheap prices!

(4)Rebecca B.
my best friend and I met up here randomly on a Sunday night as a spot halfway between our houses.
(5)Lauren C.

(3)Eric R.
fantastic drinks, great food, and cool, friendly bartenders.
(5)E F.
Great staff, well priced drinks and what stands out most is the Peanut Butter Bacon Burger (WOW)! I've spent many a sunday nights at their Rockabilly night, a definite must see.
(5)Steven P.
Really cool neighborhood bar good food good drinks great ambience and rockabilly on weekends
(5)Michael N.
(5)Diana P.
no.. terrible waitress service.... they practically forgot about us.
(1)Pourio L.

(4)Christopher M.
Uh... their FB page says they have suspended rockabilly for the foreseeable future! NO!!!!!!! I hope this little gem isn't closing. If it is I'll buy it.
(5)Jeff C.
(4)Michelle E.
(3)Alison S.
(4)Nina B.
(4)M B.
Solid music, food, and service. It's billy rock, swing, old pop music - and the food is beatnik but quite swanky. I dig the onion rings and meat loaf sandwich. This is officially our local bar - on the rare night we have a sitter.
(5)Richard R.
Oh well.
(3)Michael K.
I can't believe that this is in our backyard & it's the first time we've been here. The the trio (soprano sax, bass & guitar) is backing up a GREAT "Girl Singer". I feel like I should go home & change into my usual summer garb, linen & spectator wingtips AND the food was great, service even better.
(5)Kelly C.
(5)Derek D.
Terrific peanut butter bacon burgers, friendly staff and classic atmosphere made for a great dinner.
(5)Sean S.
(3)Tim R.
Grilled PB&J is chronic!!! Great little pub and grill. Gotta come back for a show!
(4)Adam S.
(3)John R.
(3)Krifka S.
(5)Superfly T.
(3)Brian H.
(3)Ess P.
(2)Shannon B.
(3)Matt W.
Sadly, the Blue Comet closed. I'll always remember it as a great no-frills casual bar with some great food and a good beer selection. Now who's going to make my Peanut Butter Bacon Cheeseburgers now!?
(5)Michael C.
shocked to hear the owner is wanting to sell. but happy he is going byob for the time being. we love byobs. and we love the mashed potatoes and meatloaf sandwich. now i'd just have to bring my own scotch.
(4)Ryan A.
i am glad that glenside has a bar like the blue comet. i want more of this, and less mediocrity. at least the comet is trying something. more IPAs on tap please.
(4)Catherine L.
The Blue Comet is open for business again!!! Just in time for summer too! See you all there in your Rockabilly best!
(5)Carrie E.
(4)P Y.
(5)Richard. F.
(5)Linda M.
(4)Casey L.
update! open again, with an outdoor smoking lounge out back, which is so secluded and wonderful. Menu is the same as before. Andrew is running the bar and making fresh mint and basil drinks which are delicious!
(5)Arielle B.
(5)Jim J.
We were in search of a late night, mid-week meal and were referred to Blue Comet. It was more than we could have hoped for. Not only did they serve dinner until midnight but the menu was fantastic and so was the food. This is a great blend of a local bar with good food and just the right touch of class.

$6.50 Macallan 12. Enough said. Burgers good. Solid selection on tap. 6.50 Macallan 12. Praise the Lord oh my soul.
(4)Doris T.
Went here during lunch with a few co-workers. I ordered the chicken cheesesteak. It was average, nothing to rave about.
(3)Allie P.

(5)Jleigh V.
First time dinning here and it was nice. We ate inside and the ambiance was comfortable. Waiters were super friendly and helpful, food was good. Nice date night spot. Wings are on the smaller side but the hot sauce is fantastic I got a side of it for my dinner sandwich.
(4)Deirdre M.
Food is really just average, staff is not at all friendly. A place I want to like but they don't make it easy.
(3)Kyla A.
We love this place! Our go-to watering whole for great, strong drinks and decent food!!

(4)Christopher M.
Uh... their FB page says they have suspended rockabilly for the foreseeable future! NO!!!!!!! I hope this little gem isn't closing. If it is I'll buy it.
(5)Jeff C.
(4)Michelle E.
(3)Alison S.
(4)Paul K.
About time we found a local joint that does all right.
(4)Jon M.
eaten here many times - great service, good food and cheap prices!
(4)Ted K.
(5)Dani L.
(4)Jessica M.
(4)Rebecca B.
my best friend and I met up here randomly on a Sunday night as a spot halfway between our houses.
(5)Lauren C.

(3)Michael N.
(5)Eric R.
fantastic drinks, great food, and cool, friendly bartenders.
(5)E F.
Great staff, well priced drinks and what stands out most is the Peanut Butter Bacon Burger (WOW)! I've spent many a sunday nights at their Rockabilly night, a definite must see.
(5)Sean S.
(3)Tim R.
Grilled PB&J is chronic!!! Great little pub and grill. Gotta come back for a show!
(4)Superfly T.
(3)Steven P.
Really cool neighborhood bar good food good drinks great ambience and rockabilly on weekends
(5)Nina B.
(4)M B.
Solid music, food, and service. It's billy rock, swing, old pop music - and the food is beatnik but quite swanky. I dig the onion rings and meat loaf sandwich. This is officially our local bar - on the rare night we have a sitter.
(5)Richard R.
(5)Kelly C.
(5)Derek D.
Terrific peanut butter bacon burgers, friendly staff and classic atmosphere made for a great dinner.
(5)Adam S.
(3)John R.
(3)Arielle B.
(5)Andy S.
(3)Linda M.
(4)Ess P.
(2)Brian H.
(3)Krifka S.
(5)Shannon B.
(3)bill c.
(5)Casey L.
update! open again, with an outdoor smoking lounge out back, which is so secluded and wonderful. Menu is the same as before. Andrew is running the bar and making fresh mint and basil drinks which are delicious!
(5)Christina K.
(5)JEAN S.
(5)Catherine L.
The Blue Comet is open for business again!!! Just in time for summer too! See you all there in your Rockabilly best!
(5)Carrie E.

After 22 months it's back in business. Sundays are the banner night but even lunch on a Monday is a class act. Food great, I had the cheeseburger club. Beer ice cold, Pabst cans. Music, Bill Haley & his comets amongst other greats. Attentive wait staff & the prices are fair. All hail the comet.

We were in search of a late night, mid-week meal and were referred to Blue Comet. It was more than we could have hoped for.
