I've been here several times and the food is good, however yesterday I got there with my family around 5:30pm, the server took our order at 5:45pm, and we waited for over a hour for our food! We almost walked out! Needless to say I won't be back for a while.

I've been into Avonia numerous times. When I lived in Erie, we'd meet friends there for beer and pizza or wings and we always liked it as a bar with ok food. This summer I've been into Avonia a bunch of times, and I have been really disappointed with the food. Two out of the past 4 visits, I've had to return my food because it was simply not edible. Fried clams that were stiff and rubbery, pot roast that was so tough it couldn't be chewed, coleslaw that was frozen in the middle. We typically go to Avonia after fishing because it's close to the marina. It's ok for beer, but I'd suggest other restaurants if you are looking for a decent meal

If you rated this place as a bar, it would rate three stars. It a basic shot & beer kinda place where locals go and visiting fishermen. As a restaurant, it's closer to two stars, as the food is average and the service is slow.

The service was decent, ambiance is typical of a nicer tavern. The Portions are big so be careful when ordering. I got the French onion soup which was a large crock with tons of melty cheese. They used a dark bread in the soup which was different but good. Plenty of onions and the taste was overall good. I also ordered the mini wing and rib basket (6 wings and 1/2 lb of boneless pork ribs). I ordered the wings hot (they were medium at best). If you want hot wings order them extra hot. The wings were tasty but on the small side (I couldn't complain much since they actually gave me 7 of them). The ribs we're fall-apart tender and pretty good. The bbq sauce was very good on the ribs themselves but I asked for a side of extra sauce and it was a completely different BBQ sauce. The service was fast but slightly sporatic during the meal. The waitress was friendly and knew the menu.

The Avonia tavern is a sad establishment that could be so much better. I've been here at least 5 times and each time it seems to get worse. Service is slow and the food is a mess. I have had a decent salad once or twice but it usually disappoints. There's no other sit down restaurants in that area of Route 5 so it seems to stay in business due to lack of competition.

Ate dinner here on 8/30. We have eaten here many times before. It took much longer to get our food this time even though the place was only moderately busy. Prices are reasonable. Veggie panini was good, but had too much oil on the vegetables. Baked potato was very good. My wife had the cod which she said was average. Server was very pleasant.

Horrible service... We waited 2 hours for salads and wings. The food was not as good as I remembered and we literally paid $77 for 2 kids meals, a salad and fish... Barely edible. Will NEVER EVER be back!

The food was great but it took 1 hour and 55 minutes we were going to leave if it didn't come out in five minutes

Unacceptable wait for mediocre food. It took 65 minutes for a table of 5 to get our food. I ordered fries--I got chips. I asked for ranch, never got it. The restaurant wasn't even busy. It was lively, but not busy. The "manager" told our waitress that she "didn't have time to come out and talk to us." What a joke and waste of 2 hours.

My husband and I stop at the Avonia Tavern EVERY time we are in Erie. We look forward to the wonderful service and all the great food. Their soups are the best I've ever had! My husband's favorite would be the Gumbo, which always sells out, and mine would have to be the Chicken Tortilla. But, all of the soups are homemade and just wonderful, especially after standing out in that cold Erie weather over the winter. The dinners are exceptional as well including the boneless pork ribs which are served with or without wings in all the same flavors as their delicious wings. But my ultimate favorite after a bowl of soup is their Fried Clam platter. I'm telling you, you have NEVER seen or had clams this big and delicious!! They are out of this world! The Tuscan pizza rounds out my top choices, but I've seen people getting the mile-high meatloaf a lot, too. Oh, and I can't forget the burgers and Greek Fries. My husband always gets some Greek sauce to dip something in. He just loves it! But, as I first said, it's the service that's just wonderful. We go to Erie to fish for Steelhead, as many people do in the winter, and all the girls know us by name, they remember what we drink and they are just so funny and entertaining. We hope to continue our tradition of dinner at the Avonia for a long time to come!

This used to be the best neighborhood bar and grille around. My husband I and I were regulars and in at least once a week. This summer something changed for the worst. They physically redid the restaurant and that was okay. But right around the time they made all the physical changes the food took a dive. The first bad experience we had was on a friday when they were only moderately busy. My husbands and I both ordered the NY strip and stuffed shrimp. Everything just tasted old it was dry and the steaks were way over done. It also took well over an hour to get our food. We thought it was a fluke, everyplace can have a bad night. We came back during the week and ordered sandwiches the place wasn't even half full and the it took over an hour to get our food again. My sandwich was supposed to be hot but was cold and our daughters quesadillas looked like they have been cooked in a microwave. We weren't going to go back after that but friends really wanted to go and convinced us to go one more time. They used to have an awesome prime rib special on weekends, they stopped doing that regularly and my husband and were really excited to see it up again when we came in. We waited almost 2 hours for our food and when it came I stopped my husband from eating his because mine was covered in a green iridescent sheen. He examined his more thoroughly and found his was green all the way through. The meat was really, really old. T I don't know what happened in the kitchen at this place but it's a shame. We won't be back anytime soon
