Great chill spot in Exton -- best part is the outdoor patio with its pretty landscaping and seclusion, too bad it's getting cold:/. Hate that it's in the mall bc it's impossible to find close parking, are there other locations? Food and service area great! Reasonable prices. LOVE the chicken tacos omg. Wish you could sub tofu or something to make it vegetarian. Also if you check in you get a free margarita pizza woo. It's pretty good. Didn't care for the nachos with chicken! Great local beer selection! The sampler is always a good way to go. Check first if they still have a beer you want so you don't set your heart on it, both times I was here they didn't have a few beers we wanted. Also they make really really really good chipotle bloody Mary's!!!! Hello new brunch spot.

Beyond feeling awkward eating dinner at a mall, this place is great! We've eaten there three times and had great pub food each time. Soups, wings, meatloaf (it was too salty, but good), mac and cheese -it was all really good. The menu is substantial; something for everyone. Nice beer selection as well. If you can get beyond the mall thing, it's worth the trip. Update; our third trip and the food was so, so. Very disappointing.

The beer selection here is what makes the trip worthwhile. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and we were seated right away. Service was good and a great variety of beer to try. The menu has a description of all the draught beers which is super helpful. The food was okay. Nothing out of the ordinary, but definitely something for everyone. The atmosphere and decor here is awesome! Super comfortable and relaxed. Will definitely be going back!

Great ambiance, good staff, nice beer selection, fair prices, but the food tells me that Dave McGrogan is stretching his talent too thinly. Nothing was terrible, but eveything had room for improvement. The pizza was most disappointing - good ingredients badly assembled and prepared. Better than Chili's, but not up to McGrogan standards.
(3)Amy L.
What a great experience!!! The food was great and the bartenders were helpful and hospitable! We had the pretzel bites, cheesesteak and chicken Caesar pizza---- WOW!!! We will definitely come back!

I have been here several times and enjoying myself every time! There are lots of beer choices and the bartenders are friendly! Place had a nice clean atmosphere and a decent outside area. The food is pretty yummy. A great place to stop and relax if you're shopping at the mall or looking for a good meal.

An interesting addition to the growing stable of Magrogan restaurants, Red Star sits right in front of one of the Exton Mall entrances. It boasts of a massive selection of beer and when the 2 samples on tap I tried didn't do it for me, I ordered a bottle off the huge bottle list. That bottle was out of stock. We decided on another one and that worked. My girlfriend had a diet coke. For checking in we were offered a free 8 inch margarita pie. Thankfully this pizza was free as it was an insult to great pizza everywhere. It wasn't hot. The crust had to be frozen. The sauce was fair. The mozzarella cheese not only wasn't hot it tasted bland. I had a burger that had pulled pork, cheese, onion crisps and BBQ sauce. The burger was tasty. The pulled pork was not hot. It came with fries in a tiny cup. I HATE when a restaurant rations out ketchup and they committed that sin in giving me a small portion. Puhlease. Tell your bean counters a bottle is what customers want. My girlfriend had a pulled chicken Reuben and thought it was ok. Service was fair. Several fellow Yelpers point out the Pour House is across the street and they offer pretty much the same things at a lower price. As I see it, neither one is great but if I had to pick I'd drive over to the Pour House. At least, I got a bottle of ketchup last time I was there. And slightly better food and service.

The food and staff are amazing. The service is excellent and the food is always fresh and delicious. We sat at the bar today, and special shout out to Claudio and Mike for taking good care or us!

Pro: the server. Con: there were several, but our server fixed all them. It was an odd experience otherwise in here. We had two servers, I think. I can't quite figure out what happened. But someone started taking care of us then our server took over and periodically we saw the other person. They didn't seem to communicate much because our server didn't seem to know we had ordered drinks and appetizers (the app took forever to reach us). The food is typical of what you would find at any pub. Nothing special about it. Some creative/trendy items like sweet potato fries and quinoa salad. I ordered a burger with bacon. It was pretty good and presented nicely on a cutting board with fries and pickle slices. It was cooked well. The lettuce was blah, and the bun was cut weird so the bottom slice basically disintegrated into the beef. There was no bacon on the burger, but our server brought some out. The others in my party seemed to enjoy their food. Someone ordered a side quinoa salad to go (she saw it in a to-go menu we grabbed on our way in), but a full size salad came out and the full price was on the receipt. After showing the server what we thought we were ordering, our bill was fixed. A few hiccups that were fixed. If we had any room left, we would have ordered dessert. Overall, I like the interior and the vibe of this place and hope to return before finishing the semester.

Exactly what Exton Mall needed to fill the long lasting vacancy of Houlihan's. This is our second time at this fine new establishment, and it has now become one of my new favorite restaurants. For starters, there are almost 30 rotating craft beers on draft to choose from, in addition to about 100 bottles. The bottles are very reasonably priced in the cafe area, with $2, $3 and $4 selections. They even sell growlers that they will fill with any beer on draft to go. Beyond the beer is a menu full of superb gastropub fare that is sure to delight any foodie. Here is a run down of our most recent dining experience: For appetizers, we split the Cheesesteak Dumplings with Sriracha ketchup, wasabi aioli, and sesame ($9.00). Wow!!! These things were so good and packed just enough heat from the Sriracha. I will definitely be ordering these the next time I come in. I also tried some of my wife's Brisket Chili with cheddar/gouda/lime crema/corn tortilla ($7.00). The brisket was a unique twist on traditional chili, and I enjoyed it very much. A must try if you're a fan of Chili. For dinner, I ordered the Smokehouse Burger ($15.00). This thing is loaded up with smoked cheddar, east carolina BBQ sauce, fried onions and their house made pulled pork on a brioche bun. Wow!!! This thing was a carnivores paradise and a true masterpiece. I opted to go with the truffle fries which was a nice upgrade from the standard fries. My wife ordered the Cheesesteak ($12.00) which was different from any other cheesesteak I have ever had. Instead of traditional chopped steak, it was packed with shaved brisket, onions, arugula, smoked cheddar, provolone cheese and rosemary mayo on a long roll. A very different but very well executed twist on the standard cheesesteak. I would definitely recommend ordering this! Although we were full by this point, we couldn't resist trying the Peanut Butter Explosion for desert. It was a very rich and decadent blend of chocolate and peanut butter, and enough for 2 people to share. A very good choice that will satisfy any sweet tooth! Not only was the food excellent, but so was the service. Our server David was awesome! He knew the menu inside and out and was attentive to all of our needs. I can't believe how good the food and service was for only being open for a few short weeks. I usually set my expectations low for new restaurants, so bravo Red Star you exceeded my expectations. Many thanks to Dave Magrogan for another stellar restaurant!!! We will be sure to be back soon and often. Can't wait to return!

I have been to Red Star several times as its new to the area and looked like a great addition. Unfortunately, I gave it several tries and was completely underwhelmed with the items I tried. The beers and cocktails are good, and the fries are delicious, but otherwise every menu item I've tried from salads to entrees has been underwhelming. Either not enough flavor or not the right blend of ingredients. The place is gorgeous though and the staff has always been very friendly though they could use better management. It seemed every time we were there our waiter or waitress had either too many tables or tables in an entirely different section. It made checking in on us and paying a little more time consuming than it should have been. I really want to like it, but I just can't see spending money on a place that's lovely on the outside, but has no substance.
(3)Ron B.
Food was above average quality with an exceptional brick oven pizza. Beer list was quite extensive, however, the wait staff did not know what beer had what qualities to help me determine which one I would like to try

We came out here last minute to celebrate my birthday with my fiancé. We got to the restaurant at 8:30 and sat outside. The outside is so freaking gorgeous! We were seated right around the sun set and it just was so pretty. The night was warm and it felt like being at the beach even though the parking lot was right there. Our server was a gentleman with a beard. He has been there since it opened and he was great. We got the edemame potstickers, tartar, and cheese and meat board. They were all very good. For dinner we got the tofu tacos and the pulled pork tacos. The pork tacos were a little spicy but the to balance it out the sweet pineapple salsa was great. The server was fast and friendly. He mentioned the kitchen was closing at 9 but we never felt rushed. I finished with the Nutella dessert to go and it was awesome. Highly recommend the Nutella.

Well the third time is a charm; the little woman and I were down at the Exton Mall getting my phone fixed. On the way out we decided to gab something at Red Star. We got there about 4 and their dinner doesn't start until 5. We were sat at one of the boots near the kitchen run which was nice. Our serve was Samantha, we was charming and very attentive. We reviewed the menu and we both saw meals in the dinner section. We asked is we could order dinner even though it wasn't dinner time. She went back to the Chef and asked if we could order the Sacchetti Pasta and the Wood Roasted Salmon. To our delight the Chef accommodated our request which is very impressive. In my opinion, this shows that this place is very focused at meeting their customer's needs. We let me tell you, the Sacchetti Pasta hit it out of the park, the sauce was perfectly balanced and it had a bit of the garlic of the scampi. The great thing about this pasta is that it has all of the characteristics of a traditional scampi but balanced with the roasted tomato and parmesan. The Shrimp we definitely not shrimpy, they were very meaty and perfectly cooked. The Sacchetti Pasta was something I have never had before but they were great. Think of a Ravioli but made into a little round bag of goodness. This should be the star of the Red Star. Thank god for the third time. My Wife's salmon was perfectly cooks, and the garnish was worked well with the meal. I have to say I have been pleased with the overall experience of the Red Star. It is some place I would recommend you trying.

For a suburbs beer spot, I liked this place! There's a nice outdoor area with plenty of seating, a bar, and pretty lights...although the view is of a parking lot. I opted for the beer flight for $8 and four 5 oz pours. I think that's a pretty standard price and the draft list is super extensive with lots of local beers which was cool. I also ordered a side of the quinoa salad for $6 which was really good and came on top of a lettuce bed with nuts and veggies and a lemon vinaigrette (I'd ask for this on the side, since it was too much). Anupma S. and Noopur S.'s marg pizza and tacos were good. If I lived closeby, I'd def come for taco Tuesday for 1/2 off since they looked yummyyy. Our server was friendly. Cool spot!
(4)Amy F.
Great experience! Bartender, Kim and manager, Kimmi, are awesome! Love the atmosphere and menu here! Add this to my list of favorite places! Love the outdoor area! Food was perfect!

Don't be nervous about the bad reviews early on - this place was still finding its footing, and it's doing really well now. They have a great beer menu (30 taps + 100+ bottles), a broad food menu (interesting takes on standard bar food including pizza, wings, salads, burgers, tacos, etc.), friendly staff, and a nice, new, clean restaurant space. Honestly, the service was SO nice - like they were making up for probably being not-so-great early on. We split lettuce wraps, which were a solid portion of surprisingly tasty, healthy food. I had the mahi mahi tacos, which were solid as well. Overall, we were impressed by Red Star, and I expect their rating to increase quickly. It's a great addition to the Exton area!
(4)Monica H.
If I could give his place zero stars I would. Service was the worst I have ever experienced in my life. We got there and stared at an empty hostess station until I walked up to someone back in the kitchen to finally get someone's attention. Then when we finally sat we waited 20 minutes and no one ever came to the table. Not even to give us water or tell us that they would be with us shortly. I called the manager to speak to him and he was a complete joke. Said sorry for the miscommunication and that was it. We took our belongings and left. Do not bother with this place. Save yourself the crappy service and lack of hospitality.

Below average food. Good beer selection. Not worth the money when so many other beer options exist. Steak was not good.
(3)Amy O.
Not worth your time!! I've been to multiple restaurants similar to this and had wonderful experiences; however visiting Red Star is a nightmare. The bartenders are inexperienced and make horrible assumptions about their customers. I showed up with my friends from out of town and we were excited for some food and drinks. They flagged my friend immediately and said he had bloodshot eyes, which was upsetting considering we had not had anything to drink yet that night. They lost our business and they lost all future business from us. Train your employees properly please; otherwise you will lose all customer from the millennial generation.

Such an improvement from the Houlihan's that once resided here! The service was wonderful. We went at 8:30 on a Sunday night, mind you they close at 10pm. We didn't feel rushed one bit. I am gluten free and am always worried about the selection. My date pointed out that their were gluten free pizza choices and I was elated, even more so when the food arrived. The deviled eggs left a little to be desired, but my date gobbled up the mac and cheese, the edamame was incredible (spicy)! I got the BBQ chicken pizza, although I would order it without cabbage next time, it was to die for! And the haiwaiian pizza looked delish. A+

I've been patiently waiting the opening of Red Star for months and was quite pleased with my experience just a week after their grand opening on Black Friday. My friend Carmen Cappello is the Executive Chef and he definitely didn't disappoint. The gastropub type feel is nestled on the outside of the mall and has great atmosphere. On a Friday night at 8pm we had to wait for a seat which I was thrilled to see for a place that just opened. There is a large bar along the wall with 40 taps (just a guess but it's a lot) then booth and table seating throughout. I was pleased with the draft list and their comprised menu. For now they are using a smaller menu but will be moving to a full menu shortly. As an appetizer, our waiter Dave, who was fantastic by the way, suggested we try the Cheesesteak dumplings. They were served with a siracha ketchup and wasabi sauce and were phenomenal. For dinner I ordered the Bar Burger and it was cooked just as I asked it to be which I have found is difficult to come by. Served with regular fries and house made pickles. The pickles had a bit of a kick to them - always a nice surprise. There are also three different types of fries you can upgrade to. My boyfriend ordered the Pepperoni pizza (comes in 8 or 12 inch but I think the 8 inch is perfect for one person). He was happy with it, although it is also served with long hot peppers on it that became a little too spicy over time. As I said, our waiter was great. He definitely knew the menu and beer list and had no problems helping us figure out what to drink. He also brought over a couple samples of new stuff when some of the kegs kicked. Thought that was great-made the place feel very inviting. There is also a little cafe side, which can be accessed through the mall, that you can sit at and order or take some beer to go. They have 6 packs and make your own. They also have 32 oz growler fills which you can get filled with anything that's on draft. Overall, great first experience and surprised at how many kinks they didn't have, seeing as they've only been open for a week. The kitchen seemed to be running great and everyone worked well together. Really looking forward to stopping by again soon. Great job, Carmen!

This was our first visit here and I am usually a fan of this restaurant group. This one is disappointing. My husband ordered the shrimp and grits and got a plate of baby shrimp that were not grilled but oddly boiled. we asked the server about it the answer was sorry we ran out of the big shrimp, sorry. No offer to take it back, to replace it. No thanks, will not be here again. The street tacos that was supposed to braised beef was cheesesteak meat. No thanks. The service was poor as well. Not impressed and would not be surprised if this sits empty soon. At least it matches mall, sad, out of touch and an awful representation of an otherwise nice area.
(2)Chris W.
Great beers on draft. Nice seating area outside. Definitely recommend the pizza. Other appetizers were a little disappointing but in their defense, you are not going here for Bobby Flay.
(4)Lauren T.
LOVE this place. Red Star has a great menu, friendly staff and good food. The Bison burger is delicious and the wings are fantastic. Not a fan of the lettuce wraps and kale salad, but all in all my husband and family go there a lot! For a quick bite to eat and a drink it is good!
(5)Michael D.
Color me unimpressed. I've enjoyed the other restaurants in this group but this one left me underwhelmed. There was a good deal of confusion with some of our order, requiring numerous re-requests to our server. I don't fault her much as it was hard to hear over the music and the kitchen apparently couldn't keep orders together. The meals were okay for what they were but I would not order the tacos again. Dinner salad armed okay and steamed edamame app was as good as I've ever had. They have a kids menu that isn't the usual. That's good and bad. Good in that the food was pretty good but very young kids don't like change. Fruit cup was a Dole cup from the market. Overall, not a bad experience but not memorable either. Given the cost, I expected better though. Meals aren't large so if you're hungry, order more. Just be prepared to pay a premium.
(2)Dan B.
Staff is very friendly and helpful. Sit outside on their patio if the weather is nice. Chicken tacos, tuna tartar, crab cakes, and gluten free pizzas are wonderful. Great beer and wine selections. Scratch kitchen making awesome food.
(4)Jenna B.
Great appetizers -- drinks were a bit pricey, but overall I enjoyed my experience there.
(4)Rachel P.
Eh. This place was OK. A friend and I stopped in here a few weeks after it was open. We waited a long time for a waitress, the food we wanted they didn't have, and the prices for what we did get were actually pretty expensive. I never heard of a restaurant giving you a menu, then you order and the food is not available. They should of told us this first thing instead of us wasting our time ordering.... then finding out it's not available. I won't ever go back.
(2)Dan K.
We decided to give Red Star another shot at lunch today. Both the hostess and waitress (Christine, maybe?) were very friendly. Got kids pizza and apple wedges for my daughter, wife got smoked chicken nachos and I got the Red Star burger with truffle fries. Had at least a bite of everything and all was good. Good tap list today as well. The previous "wrongs" have been righted. Waitress acknowledged some pain during opening which I'll give credit for. She was definitely part of the reason the experience was better. We'll add it to the restaurant rotation.
(4)Chaz B.
I visited on a weekday for lunch. Overall it was just an ok experience. CONS: No kids menu, they told us they could modify items for kids.. What? We ordered the Mac and cheese appetizer for a child, not really sure what the modified difference was. We were here for a little over an hour and saw our waitress once to take orders and one to ask for the check. I'm a little concerned they weren't more attentive. Makes me wonder what it's like on a weekend for dinner. PROS: The food was decent. I had the pulled chicken tacos. I would go again to try other things on the menu. The staff was friendly and welcoming, just didn't check in enough for refills and such.

It's not going to knock your socks off but Red Star offers a very affordable, very well executed menu. It's by no means a quiet spot, so don't go looking to have an intimate meal but if a fun, crowded atmosphere is what your after for the night, give it a go. We had 7PM reservations and were seated right away in a booth near the bar. The table was roomy and very comfortable for our party of 4. The beer list is great. I ordered a flight of 4 from the craft beer draft list, but when I went to tell the server my first choice she said it was kicked, no mention of it being out during the 10 minutes we'd been sitting there looking at the drink menu. When I asked for a suggestion of what to replace it with she wasn't able to offer any. That was disappointing and her lack-luster attitude continued for the rest of the night. We had a Pot-Stickers appetizer and the Fried Pickles, both of which were good, the pickles more so. I opted for the Red Star Burger for my entree. The burger was quite good but the fries which came with it were mediocre. For a place that touts "scratch" cooking it was pretty clear the fries were just frozen ones that every other restaurant of this type offers. Desserts were in the form of shooters. My table had 2 of them, I didn't try them but there were no complaints. I'll likely give Red Star a go again, probably on their half-price taco night. While the meal didn't leave me disappointed I'm not sure I'm convinced it'll make it to our regular rotation of eat-out spots just yet.
(3)Bryan M.
I'm sitting at the bar on a Friday night and the bartender is washing the floor in front of me.The manager is sitting next to me talking to her friends. Doesn't care what is going on. Why come spend my money here? I work to hard to be insulted this way. I will never be back.

My wife and I decided to try Red Star for dinner. Unfortunately RS is just another example of the loathsome, pub food slop troughs that you can find in just about any franchised restaurant staked out along Rt 30 in Chester County. In fact the beer list was also identical PJ Whelahans or Pour House, so why not call it PJ III's or Just Another PJ's? Anyway, I ordered the Salmon BLT, which consisted of a sliver of salmon that covered 1/3 of a bread slice, 3 crumbles of bacon and a slice of tomato that could have passed for road kill, brown spotty avocado and a slice of red onion that was bigger than the fish. The funny part was that the kitchen actually stuck giant toothpicks in both sandwich halves as if it was going to topple over. I've seen taller grilled cheese sandwiches than this blt. My wife had the BLACKENED ma-hi ma-hi tacos; 2 skimpy servings of anemic fish and cabbage (absolutely no trace of blackened anything). A third member of our party ordered the Margarita Pizza, which also proved to be an embarrassingly botched rendition of a classic that's made of 4 basic ingredients. Shredded skim cheese has no place on a Marg Pizza. Look it up, Red Star. The last time I had such a deflated dining experience like this was at my high school cafeteria. Or was it prison camp? Hugely disappointing, and even more so when I had to bend over and grab my socks to pay for this $50 privilege. The service was good but in the end, even our perky waitress knew the stuff coming out of the kitchen was pure crap, and probably why she didn't ask, 'how was everything', or bother to leave a pen so I could fill out the survey card. Yeah, I think we both know.

The Red Star has a great look and a prime location but don't let the outward appearance fool you! We've been there several times and each experience has been underwhelming. Each time I've said to my husband, let's just give them another chance, they need to just work out some kinks. But my latest venture has sealed the deal. After a long day of work I stopped at the Red Star to get a simple Caesar salad. Besides the fact that there was absolutely nothing to it but lettuce and a bit of grated cheese, it was the quality of the lettuce that put me over the edge. The salad was super small and it was mixed lettuce, some romaine and some other type of wilted field green that was actually yellow and going bad! Ceaser salads are made with romaine lettuce, hello? And for gods sake if you plan to mix in other types of lettuce can it at least be fresh? It was frankly the biggest waste of $8 ever! I mean really how hard is a Ceaser salad? The only redeeming thing I can say is the dressing was good. I will not be giving them another chance, sorry red star three (maybe 4) strikes you're out!

Exton Mall needed this restaurant! It should bring more people to this small, family friend mall. However don't expect small time fare with this locally supplied menu. The food is excellent and the kids will eat their veggies. The service is friendly from the door and the kitchen delivers. Beer drinker? This is your spot and nobody likes to drink on an empty stomach! No need to shop and leave the mall for "real food"! It has arrived!
(5)Jason C.
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! First, they decided to seat us in the take out area...the food court has nicer tables and chairs! As we waited for our food, we were grossed out by the cooks. We later learned that they don't need to wear gloves since they have hand sanitizer. However, not once did we see it being used while one cook worked between raw meat, touching his face, and touching prepared foods. The best though was watching a cook lick his thumb and then clean the rim of a soup bowl. Are you kidding me! As much as we wanted to leave, I justified staying since we were getting calamari and burgers. The calamari was good but my partners medium well burger was served raw! My dining partner called it quits. The couple next to us also received a raw burger. The gentleman asked for it to be prepared correctly. They returned with a new bun but the same burger! As I learned later, taking a bite out of a burger and then tossing it back on the grill to cook longer is A-OK. Little did I know! The WORST moment was yet to come. The patron next to us asked to see the manager. The waiter sent over the GM (looks like the guy Fringe & Dawson's Creek) and the Chef who immediately became defensive and very unprofessional instead of saying they'll bring the matter to the attention of the guy making the burgers (my guess, since he burned my bison burger, he thought beef cooked just as quickly which isn't true). To cap off the evening, after the GM left, the patron quipped to his wife, "The guy's full of sh**." The GM turned to the patron and told him, "If you think I'm full of sh**, then get out of my restaurant!" WOW, talk about a Gordon Ramsey wanna-be! I'm still flabbergasted by the complete lack of professionalism. I mean, what an ass! All he needed to do was walk away, Exton isn't the place for hoodlums and gang bangers! Note, the patron made this comment to his wife and not the GM who already had his back to the table and was standing several feet away. I would feel differently if he said it to his face but the GM response was entirely unacceptable. Absolutely ridiculous. Me? I won't be back, ever!

Everyone needs to relax with the low star rating about this place. Its brand new, all brand new places screw things up. let them figure it out and then you can be critical. We actually had a very nice experience here. went with a large part of 8 with 2 kids also. they dont have a "kids" menu but they have Mac and Cheese so i mean good enough right...if your kids dont like mac and cheese leave them home. Lots of beers to pick from, i will agree they could descibe the beers better. i think the list is just a name, location and price which nice but lets hear a little something about the beer. If your going with Craft house, then you gotta wow me with the "craft" end of it. (again this is a just a beginning issue, not a reason to say this place stinks or as some guy said "run"..please!) menu is good... wide variety.. We did some Apps for the table. Went with Wings (good, nothing to be crazy about we just went with buffalo so we were boring with this order.) had the cheese steak Dumplings - wife and sister in-law loved them. they were fine. Sweet potato fries i think were a special and they were amazing... came with two sauces that i would have eaten with a spoon! I got the Blackened Mahi Tacos and they were AWESOME!!!! great flavor, good spice... very very happy with my order...actually if i had to compalin i wish instead of two it came with 3 so i had another taco to eat...but thats just my fat american in me speaking, it honestly was plenty of food My wife got the Quinoa Salad... looked like bird food but she LOVED it... said nothing but good stuff, took 1/2 home with us and enjoyed it the next day. Double win! i think everyone enjoyed their order except my brother in-law who ordered a turkey thanksgiving burger...didnt even sound good...he said it was dry, i said it was a turkey burger what did you expect? bad ordering... actually take it off the menu also so that those with terrible deicision making skills dont stray away from the good stuff and order thanksgiving turkey burgers... Honestly give this place a try...if you are from the area its great. its not like this is Center City Philadelphia and you can hit 12 great restaurants in 2 blocks... This is a nice craft beer concept with a solid menu... Prices are fair, maybe high on beer but get over it people... go try this place. i am sure they will work out some of the opening a new restaurant issues they have and then it will be even better!
(4)Alyssa R.
This place is a great addition to the area. The menu is creative and everything is really good. They always have new beers on tap and continue to rotate them around. Something for any beer lover. The food: the turkey burger with long hots is on point! So juicy with tons of flavor. All of their fries are great but the sweet potato fries are especially good with their two dipping sauces. Not something you'll find around often. The cheesesteak dumplings are also one of the best things on the menu. Someone commented that they are a ripoff for 4 of them, but now you get 5. I'm not sure where most of these reviewers have found something to complain about. I've been here at least once every week since they opened and I've never had a bad experience. All of the staff is friendly and very knowledgable and a pleasure. If you love good beer, and fresh, creative food from scratch, you have to give it a try.

Loved this place. Great craft beer selection. Nice ambience. Would totally recommend to get the mezzo plate. It's probably the most delicious bit of bar food I have ever had as a vegetarian. Will be coming back again

First time this past week. The hostess wouldn't seat us in the main dining area without a reservation despite there being several empty tables. She originally sat us in a back room with no other tables filled. ( I said " youre going to put us in here all alone with no other tables filled? is this area closed??") I finally requested to be seated outside which was okay. I didn't understand her logic at all. It wasn't horrible, but it is definitely overpriced. We sat outside and received mediocre service (very inattentive on drink refills- we would have loved to try a second beer) and they weren't even that busy. The beer list is amazing, the food is good, but pretty overpriced for what it is. Interesting menu though. Might give it another go. Had some live acoustic music inside which seemed fun and interesting. Meh. I will go to the Pour House maybe instead.

Rather nice place for a mall restaurant but they try so had to be more than your typical pub that they miss on some of the obvious stuff. The food is unnecessarily tricky. Unusual parings don't always make for great eating. Some will like it. Not me.

My husband and I came here last night for dinner a little after 8:30pm. We really, really wanted to like this place and prove all of the other Yelpers wrong so here goes my review The Good We were greeted by the hostess right away and taken to a table. We asked to change tables and there was no problem After looking around the restaurant we noticed that this place is beautiful! The outside dining area is fantastic and we love that the tables have fire pits right in the middle of them We were greeted by two servers, Alexis and a trainee named Steph. They were both very nice and courteous Steph came to take our drink orders in which she recommended that we try a sample first before committing to a whole glass. I'm glad that she suggested this because we both ended up ordering different beers, me the Southern Tier 2xIPA, and my husband a Victory Hop Devil A carafe of water was placed on our table which was perfect because the one thing that peeves my husband is when there isn't enough water in his glass We checked in to Yelp and received a complimentary 8" Margherita pizza. We asked for this to be boxed since we were going to be ordering a lot of food. Our request for this was not a problem at all The food that we ordered was tasty (especially the polenta fries). The pigcentric pizza we ordered was flavorful but soggy towards the center of the pizza so I ate mine with a fork and knife Where things started to get a little weird We placed our dinner orders with Steph which consisted of the Pimento Cheese stuffed Polenta Fries, Pigcentric 12" pizza, and Duck 12" pizza (we like to over order if you couldn't tell!). After waiting for what seemed like a reasonable time, a food runner came over and brought our pizzas. After I asked for a small plate to eat my pizza with, my husband and the food runner inquired about the small plate I had placed at the very opposite side of our table from where we were sitting. After letting the food runner know that the plate was a little dirty he replied "good one!" and left without returning to our table with a clean plate. My husband kindly went over to another table to fetch a plate for me so we could start digging in to our food After too long of a time, Steph came over to see how everything was going. I mentioned the incident with the food runner and how odd that was for him to think that I would be joking over a dirty plate. She apologized profusely and must have informed Alexis about this because then Alexis came over to apologize. They must have told the food runner too because then he came over to apologize! When Steph came over to our table after our pizzas had been brought out I also asked about our fries. She said that they were coming right out and that she was going to check on them. Later, when the bill came, I see that the fries were the very last item on the bill so they were clearly ordered after we had gotten our pizzas and requested for a quick fire from the kitchen to get them out to us ASAP. I wish she would have just been honest and said that the order wasn't placed because at that point we could have done without the fries and the extra $8 added to our bill When the bill came around 9:51pm, my husband noticed that the incorrect beer was added to our tab. He ordered a Victory Hop Devil and our bill reflected a Victory Storm King which is generally a premium to the Hop Devil. As we observed the Red Star staff commingling with each other and hanging out we waited, and waited, and waited for either Alexis and/or Steph to come over to our table so we could inquire about the incorrect beer placed on our bill which could have been a $1.50 up-charge (hey, every $ counts!!). One of the staff wandered passed our table and asked if everything was ok. We asked him about the beer discrepancy and he assured us that the Storm King and Hop Devil were the same price. We asked if he could just check again anyways because why wouldn't they just ring up the right beer on the bill?? He left for a minute and came back to again let us know that both beers are the same price After waiting, and waiting, and waiting I finally went up to the bar with the bill in hopes that they could just close our bill so we could leave. The bartender kindly said that he could not close out our bill at the bar but then went to find Alexis for us. When Alexis arrived my husband voiced his frustration regarding the entire evening and Alexis quickly apologized and scampered away During all of this, not one floor manager came over to inquire about the evenings specific events or offer an apology/solution This place is beautiful and the mistakes listed above are very easily fixable but the mistakes are the things that keep people from coming back, not the ambiance. Where is the disconnect between the staff at Red Star versus the staff at Harvest? I would really like to say that I will return to Red Star one day once all of the kinks are worked out but for now I just don't know...

Good beer selection. What you would expect from a Craft House. Sleeper Pick... the Ceasar Salad Pizza was awesome!
(4)Meghan M.
It's a 2.5 for me. I've been a couple of times and have yet to be blown away by anything (food or service). The atmosphere is nice - decor is modern and comfortable. Previously, I had the fried pickle appetizer which was tasty and the chicken and waffles entree which was a well done interpretation of a classic dish. This evening I had pretzel bites which seemed to be a frozen product that I could have gotten at the grocery store and the fish and chips entree...the fish was overly greasy and bland and the fries were super soggy. For the price I paid, I'd rather go somewhere else.

I know very well that most people write on Yelp not to praise an establishment (which I have done) but to rip it with criticism. This will be one of those. We went to Red Star yesterday for an early dinner, were seated and given menus. We sat and looked at the menus and beer list, picked what beer we wanted, kept waiting, picked what we wanted for dinner and kept waiting. Finally after about 18 minutes of watching the waiters walk around us, see us and still ignore us. We got up and left. The airheads at the front told us they hoped we enjoyed dinner (one of them had just seated us). I told them what had happened and they were sorry. We went to Chipotle and had dinner for 2 for $16...It was great. Don't waste your money.
(1)Justin C.
First impression was not great, our party of 4 made a reservation but were sat in the cafe section near the take out register outside of the main restaurant area. You'd think they would use this overflow area for people who walkin and not a party that reserved a space. No view of the bar/tvs no ambience. We asked for a spot in the restaurant and had to wait about 20 minutes. Wait was worth it to be in the actual restaurant. Our server was attentive offering us some beer samples to try. We had the fried pickles and cheesesteak dumplings as appetizers. Both were good but very small portion sizes. Entree portion sizes were also a little on the light side. I had the pulled chicken tacos which were flavorful, it was advertised as being bbq sauce but didn't taste bbq at all, more mustard and mayo. One of our party got the pulled pork but again no bbq sauce and she ended up using ketchup on it because when asked for bbq sauce a very hot mustard like sauce was provided. Pricing is a little higher for the atmosphere a little high for sandwich items but entrees were very limited (5 or so items ) and priced fairly high (20+) for a pub.

Short version...food and drinks are excellent, service needs a little work. This was our second visit to Red Star. We sat on the patio, which was lovely and I would highly recommend. There's a full bar out there, fire pits, great landscaping, and just overall great atmosphere. I had requested this seating through Open Table, which the hostess had no clue about. Once we were sat it was over 10min before we were greeted. The hostess hadn't given us a drink menu, so we got that from our waitress and ordered drinks and apps. The drinks took another 10min to come to us. We then realized there was a specials list and asked for this. Our server gave us the lunch specials (it was 8:30pm) and then disappeared. Thankfully, another lovely server brought our apps and gave us the correct menu and silverware. We were bummed because there were delicious looking app specials we would have loved to order. This same server than took our order as well because our waitress had not returned after about 15min. The food was delicious. The calamari with roasted peanuts was really enjoyable. My husband had the seafood pasta special and I had the sacchieti pasta with shrimp. Both were very good and generous portions. The pizzas and burgers we saw go by also looked very good. The beer selection is also very impressive. We will definitely be back to Red Star, just hope the service improves with time.
(4)Dena R.
Sat outside on the patio- so nice. The edamame dumplings were so good.
(4)Megan G.
Nice beer selection, good solid American fares, can get loud at the bar , but overall good .
(3)Hope G.
First time I went, everything was great. It was weekday lunch time, and the place was kind of empty. Second time I went was for dinner and the place was full. Service remained good, however the food was awful! Even one of the same items I had for lunch prior was not as good for dinner.
(3)B B.
I've read the reviews, so I decided to try RS myself -- several times, and each time was very good (certainly better than 3-Stars for me). The service is enthusiastic and stays on top of your order without smothering you. And there has typically been a sizable crowd for lunch - a good sign. The decor and atmosphere is very nice. It's cozy and intimate enough, but not dark or dank. I've had the regular burger and the bison burger (both on-point) and the 'Lancaster County Chicken Noodle Soup'-which I thought was excellent, HUGE portion with plenty of shredded chicken and great flavor. I also ordered the fried pickles. They were lightly breaded and not greasy, so that was a winner. Anyway, I'll be back, Red Star is definitely a great addition to the area, in general, and the Exton Square Mall, in particular.

A welcome addition to the Exton Mall after Houlihans closed. This is a great place to grab drinks and an appetizer. The beer list is amazing with drafts and bottled beers. I did the four samples of 5oz for $8 not a bad price and great to try different beers. I went with a Kona pale ale, Abita Strawberry Wheat ( so glad they had this Nola beer), Crispin cider and Ithaca Apricot Wheat. I also tried in a bottle the elderberry cider by Original Sin. We were with a big group and glad we made reservations- they gave us a large table in the back. To start we ordered the nachos and cheesesteak dumplings. Rave reviews from the group for the dumplings but the nachos not so much. They hardly had any toppings on them very disappointing. For my entree I got the Hawaiian pizza. Another huge disappointment could hardly see or taste any of the toppings ( what ham and few pieces of pineapple) and the aioli sauce drizzled on top took complete control over the taste. Others in my party ordered the Mac and cheese ( it was ok), veggie pizza ( same feeling that I had) and tacos - they got a better review. For dessert they brought around 4 different moose shooters for $4 each. We tried the pineapple limoncello one and it tasted sour. The Reese's peanut butter one was better but not worth $4. The service was great even in a busy night do shout out to our waitress and 2 managers checked in us. I heard the service was bad so this was a pleasant surprise. I recommend go grab a beer after a long afternoon of shopping and skip the food.
(2)Andres G.
Quality of food is standard. Lower than expected for such a nice place. The beer and the bar are really good. Over-priced in food for the value delivered. Consider going to this place as a bar option, not as a purely restaurant option
(3)Roy L.
Started at the bar. What a mess. Ordered a Dark Horse Amber got a Big Gruesome Stout. Good beer but not what I ordered. Pointed it out to bartender. She blamed the tap handle. I could explain the whole thing but what's the point. Bottom line if you want to be a beer bar you have to get this stuff right. BTW got charge for the wrong beer. Food was average. Waitstaff at the table was excellent. I did talk to a manager about my experience at the bar. He apologized but offered no compensation. I did see him telling the bartender to fix the taps.

I've been to Red Star twice - once when they first opened and again over the past weekend & both times had a great experience. I'm not much of a review person but after reading one negative review in particular I felt compelled to write something (cough Jason C). It's funny how yelp has such a mass amount of professional food critics - I mean you gave the Springfield Diner 5 stars and Red Star Craft House one star - that just sums up the legitimacy of your review right there. Every staff member I came into contact with was extremely kind and professional, including Nick - a sous chef & Mike the general manager (known to by one yelper as "Dawson's Creek"). Both made their way over to our table. Our food was great! I was a little hesitant about chicken and waffles but it was amazing! All of the food was right on point. And let me just note that the cooks at the salad station who Jason C. complained about, yet failed to divulge the whole truth that they do not use their hands to prepare the salads, they use tongs. And considering they have an open kitchen I don't get the impression they are trying to hide anything. The restaurant itself is very nice - modern yet comfortable. If your considering going to Red Star to watch a sports game, you won't be disappointed - they have an abundance of flat screen TV's. They have a cafe area that is separate from the main dining area that if it's really busy they will offer for anyone who doesn't want to wait to be seated in this area. One yelp member (Jason C) criticized the cafe area as if it wasn't an optional seating area, if you wanted the dining room you should have waited for the main dining room. The food & service are the same in the dining room and cafe area & the tables & chairs are "cafe" style seating, hence it being the cafe. And for someone who had a dining partner (hey I don't judge) to make comments about hoodlums and gang bangers is very ignorant and judgmental. I mean, how gangster are these hoodlums after all the complaints you made they didn't pull out their glock 20's on you and your dining partner (again, I don't judge). Seems like they are quite poised to me. : )

Returned as promised with a party of 10. First the pros, my beer was served in the proper glassware and the beer list was more descriptive, but still not as detailed as most craft beer lovers expect. I ordered the crab cake sandwich and upgraded to truffle fries. $16+$2.50 for upgrade. $18.50 for a crab cake sandwich and small portion of fries...pretty steep. I was warned the plate was very hot. It was indeed and so was my 4 year olds grilled cheese plate, but my crab cake was the least warm of anything on the plate. The beer list really had maybe 2 beers from Stone that were notables and all other of the MANY selections are run of the mill craft beers. I just had 2 selections of Tired Hands and a Hill Farmstead at Station Taproom last night, now that is worth raving about. Overall, this place is an average restaurant at best. My suggestion would be to concentrate more on beer events and quality beers over quantity on the beer list. It was better than last time...
(3)Gretchen D.
Loved it! The chicken and waffles were fabulous, same with the bison burger. Side salad could be beefed up a little, but it is a side salad. Outdoor area is lovely.
(4)Amber P.
Visited red star in it's first few weeks of opening, and thought it was mediocre. I had the lettuce wraps and they were dry and just boring, ordered a side that never came, etc. Frankly just expected more being it was from the Dave Macgrogan group, but gave them the benefit of the doubt being new. Tried it again after being opening a little over 2 months and it was definitely better. Tried the fish tacos, the nachos and a burger, and all were pretty good. 3 star review because nothing is really stand out. Would go back for the beer selection though.
(3)Ing G.
Yes to the Deviled Eggs! Yes to a lot of the things on their menu! This long awaited place gets busy but even their little nook next to the mall is fun to eat in and at times, preferable. Love it, Dave!
(5)John C.
Like its sibling, Stella Rossa, Red Star tries to be more than its capable of, and misses. First, can someone please get over that not everyone loves IPAs? The beer selection, while broad,, is unimpressive to a traditionalist who prefers domestic beer. An amber lager or two would be nice. The ambience is sports bar but extremely loud. The menu is all over the place from deviled eggs to an unsuccessful spin on a Philly cheesesteak. Even the specialty drinks left my party flat with none being of particular interest. The hits, oddly enough were two sides, roasted cauliflower and a cold quinoa dish. My regular fries were dense and tasteless. My friend's sweet potato fries were a hit. The aforementioned cheesesteak is actually a brisket sandwich, extremely dry, with no accoutrement to enhance it. (I actually enjoyed the second half of mine that I brought home after it was drenched in their Carolina BBQ sauce, added cheddar cheese, and reheated.) And, I particularly enjoyed the water. There, I said it....

A thank you to Melissa, Stephanie, and Claudio. Melissa for being attentive to our value as customers that they would like to have return. Stephanie for making sure that everything was going well and that all of our needs were met. Finally, to Claudio, for impeccable service ,wonderful recommendations and being very attentive to our needs and ensuring that our evening was extremely enjoyable. Now for our experience, this was our second attempt at Redstar. On a Sunday night seating was not an issue and we arrived 10 minutes prior to our reservation and were seated without a problem in a nice comfortable booth. The crowd was very light and there was no live band so conversation was easy to be heard not that it was an overt problem the first time. The beer list was not as long as last time and much easier to navigate, my wife had the pear cider and I had the Russian Imperial Stout. For an appetizer we went with the lettuce wraps as well as the cheeseboard and meat tray. The meats and cheeses were exceptional in a very good quality and quantity accompanied by some delicious olives even for a person who does not care for them. The lettuce wraps were very good and quite a large portion ,so much so that we had to take some home. My wife had the blackened mahi tacos which she said were very good flavorful and not overly spiced. I had the bison burger with the brie cheese as well as a side of truffle fries. The burger was freaking amazing and the truffle fries were perfect and had the flavor that we expected and we devoured. Desserts were offered but we did not partake, they were in very nice portions enough to be a good treat after a meal without being overwhelming like at some places. We just happened to be too full. Overall if this is the level of service and quality of food that they give on a normal basis, we absolutely will be returning!!
(5)J D.
All the food we have ordered here has been good and the bartender is professional and helpful with beer choices etc. we always sit at the bar here and can't comment on tables or service in that regard. My complaint with this place is the band which is SUPER loud. This place is a restaurant with tables etc. it's not just a bar or a club where the patrons might expect ear splitting live music. We sit at the far end of the bar far from the band but any conversation we have has to be shouted to each other. Like the place other than the noise level.
(3)Lucille D.
I have been back 5 times since my initial visit and I must say it is very good and the food and service have both been consistent. They now have a kids menu too. The local vegetable pizza is excellent as are the lettuce wraps. My husband had the smokehouse burger and enjoyed it. My mom had the kale salad and loved it. As I said earlier don't skip the sweet potato fries either! I took 3 friends there today and they too enjoyed their meals. One had the quinoa salad with chicken and said it was very fresh. My other friend had the black bean beer cheddar soup and loved it. And the tacos were delicious. Going back next week for a company dinner with 12 people. Enjoyable dining experience.
(4)Stephen Z.
Stopped here for lunch and it was surprisingly good. Phenomenal beer selection. I had fish tacos that were great albeit on the pricy side ($14) for two. Had great app of cheesesteak dumpling. Burger looked great and service was on target. I'll be back.

Was excited to go because it's a Magrogan restaurant and usually pretty good. Went for an early dinner. Place was empty at 5 pm . . . which made us scratch our heads that it took so long to get a waitress. No bread - no funky little stuff up front to help you during the ridiculously LOOOOOONG wait for food and beverates. Scratch? Yeah - scratching it off our list. Large bill for such a little bit of food. Waitress forgot the sauces, etc. Kept having to try and wave servers down. In the meantime, the chef, the manager and the owner (Magrogran) were all too busy with their kids/families running around and setting up the outside to pay attention to the lack of attention all of their patrons were (not) getting. Yeah. Over it.

The Hostess w/the worst attitude...Our Family went on Friday night @5:24, we were told there would be a 1hr 20min wait. No problem but the hostess tried to discourage us but we had shopping, came back at 6:45 asked about our table- they were 20 min behind on reservations. At 7:10pm my husband asked how much longer, the hostess said really loud and rude "can't you see know one is leaving"- so we did. We don't mind waiting for dinner but we do mind rude/nasty and plain not nice hostess- the face of the resturant!

Although most of Doc's establishment's start off with a bang and tend to die off over the years...I am really hoping he continues the quality and service that he has invested in Red Star. I was extremely impressed by the atmosphere of the restaurant (as it is located in a mall). The servers are very in-tune ...making sure all needs are attended to (i.e. - empty glass, refilled...etc). I was also pleasantly surprised by the menu and quality of ingredients. Service was fast and portions were plenty. The wings are AWESOME. The craft beer selection is fantastic. If you are looking for a casual dining experience - Red Star goes beyond that for a good price.

We went to this restaurant anticipating good food at a good price. Considering the large amount of good restaurants in this area, we are not going to be returning to this new restaurant. First, the positives. The decor is great and the restaurant is comfortable. Service was decent (you could tell it was a new restaurant and the servers were inexperienced) and the fries were tasty. There was a lot of local beer and ingredients. Now, the negatives. When we arrived we were informed that the full menu was not ready and were given a smaller menu. Then we were given a beer menu and told prices could not be on it (but they were on the full menu). The water was warm with no ice. We ordered lettuce wraps and cheese fries to start. The lettuce wraps came out 10 minutes later and they were very disappointing. Three pieces of limp lettuce with some sliced chicken and veggies on top. We ate a little bit and then didn't think it was worth it to continue. Five minutes later our cheese fries came with almost no cheese. The waiter realized this and offered to get more but by the time he returned (with no cheese, he said the kitchen was backed up) we had finished. Our entrees were: a four cheese pizza which was inedible, bland wings, and an ok pulled pork sandwich and chicken tacos. The meal was expensive and no one bothered to ask how our food was. On our way out a waitress said, "come again!" We will not.

Just had a late lunch during a girls getaway weekend and decided on Red Star Restaurant at Exton. One of my friends has several allergy restrictions and has had great success with Dave Magrogan's restaurants. The chefs take their time to make accommodations and the wait staff is VERY patient with all of her MANY questions:). First, food was great! Had sweet potato fries and it came w this yummy dipping sauce (pinkish red color) that was delicious. I Loved my red beet salad! Another friend enjoys cosmos and didn't see it on the menu but they accommodated anyway. I thought that was pretty cool:). I Can't wait to bring my husband back to sit at the bar for all the beer selections!! Our server, Angeline, was fabulous!...Very personable, accommodating, gave good recommendations, and was attentive but gave my girlfriends and I space to "chat". Great experience and looking forward to the next time.
(5)Candace B.
We liked it. My husband and I both got burgers. His was overdone, and they immediately replaced it. Service was really great. And my husband, who is a beer geek, enjoyed his selection.

Went to RS with the family and no one is in a rush to go back. We eat out literally 5 days a week and was really hoping to put this on our list. Food was ok, beer list good etc etc. To us it was just another Pjs, Pour House or BWW, nothing special.
(2)J S.
Great beer selection......nice atmosphere.....food was average at best.....Saturday, Jan 3 sat at the bar, a few good beers, couple of apps.....lettuce wraps were very good, the Mezza plate (something like that) was Not that good.....Tried again Tuesday, Jan 6, no beers this time, just food at a table....wife had the veggie grinder (very good), I had the "cheesesteak" made with brisket (not very good) and we also tried the cauliflower side (ok).....staff was nice, atmosphere was nice, great place for beer, food was not up to par......one more thing....ordered a growler, they should be called whimpers.....very small quantity of beer.....
(2)Bev H.
Had fish tacos last week at red star In the Exton Mall and loved them. Went back this week and it was a different story. There was bearly any fish in them this week. At $14 for two tacos and a bit of rice , this was disappointing to say the least. After I ate them, I noticed that the menu said it was 1/2 price taco Tuesday, so I thought that might explain the inconsistency, so I asked the manager and she said that that should be the same taco, however it clearly wasn't. It tasted good, the fish was moist and flavorful but there was just one tiny sliver of fish in the taco. Had that been the first time I had them, I wouldn't have come back. I can't help but think they were skimping on the fish because of the half price taco, which by the way, I did not get. Although it was advertised in the menu as 1/2 price taco Tuesday from 5-7, I was told that it only applied to people ordering from the bar, although this was not mentioned in the menu. Had to stop on the way home for a snack to fill myself up!

8 of us went to the Red Star Craft House and had a great experience. We started with the Calamari and Tuna which I would highly recommend. The Fried Chicken and Waffles were delicious as well as the Salmon. We all tried different items on the menu which were all good guality and very tasty. There is so many beers to choose from and a great menu selection. I would also like to give a shout out to our waiter Kevin who was very attentive, knowlegeable and offered us exceptional service. I would highly recommend him.. This restaurant is a well needed new spot in Exton Mall.
(5)Jason B.
We were at the mall the Monday after Xmas and decided to try Red Star. We walked in at 5:35 and were asked if we had a rsvp. I looked in and there were tons of empty tables. They said it would be a 40 minute wait. A restaurant in Exton Mall requiring a reservation...seriously???
(1)Tony C.
I had high hopes when they first announced this new restaurant in the Magrogsn group of restaurants. After several visits I am underwhelmed. Wait staff does not have a good understanding of the beer selections. The food menu also not overly interesting-- except the chicken and waffles, which is excellent.

I've been here four times since March, so that should tell you what I think! The service has always been excellent! We had a girl that was cool and nice and most recently..(Tanner?) I think his name was who is just one of those people out of the hundreds of servers you have in your life that you wish you had everywhere you went out to eat. The food, nothing crazy special..But it was very good..from what I had and there isn't anything I wouldn't order again! The food I've had is as follows -Pig Centric Pizza: Delicious -Lettuce Wraps: I don't frequently get these..but do you normally have to make them yourselves? Anyway..can't tell whether I enjoyed being able to fill my wrap as i pleased..or would rather have them filled when they come out. Decide for yourself! - Pretzel Bites: Though they tell you every time you sit down that everything is made fresh, these seem to be the most "unlikely" of the items I've had to meet that criteria. No too indistinguishable from a frozen super pretzel bite or something. Would love to see a fresher, tastier pretzel sticks with some seasoning instead. The sauces that come with are good though! -Bison Burger: WOW is all I can say...I don't know if it is the way they prepare all of their burgers..or just the bison meat that has that much different of a flavor..but it was one of the tastiest burgers meat-wise I've had in awhile. I've never had a bison burger before..so I'm not quite sure! The only true complaint I have is that close to 50% of the time the beer comes out warmer than you would normally expect. Now..it is not anything to get up in arms about..just leaves you thinking "Hmm, shouldn't that be just a little colder?" Again, this is not the case every time, but about half of my beer orders have been this way. I will be back hopefully several more times!
(4)Jen P.
Wasn't sure what to expect since a craft beer restaurant attached to a mall, but I was pleasantly surprised! Had shrimp tostadas for an app and seared scallops over a caprese salad for my entree. Everything is moderately priced. Had a draft beer and two kids meals for $47. Server was a little all over the place, I think he was new.
(4)Guy M.
Cheese steak-lunch 3-11-15: a 4 on the 10 scale. Greasy with a heavy fatty aftertaste. Edges of meat was overcooked. Grease oozing out both ends of bun. Might want to consider using different meat substrate.
(2)Matt M.
Great food, excellent selection of beer, knowledgable kind staff. Highly recommend if you haven't been.
(5)Thomas L.
Tried a few things on the menu and wasn't that impressed. The wings had a lot of broken bones, with very sharp edges. I pierced the roof of my mouth on one. They were the Jerk wings and the flavor wasn't that great, especially for $13. Also had the Turkey burger, meh. Beer prices were normal. The highlight of the meal - sweet potato fries. Very good. The waitress was hovering a lot too. May or may not try it again.

I don't know what the heck these people were thinking when this restaurant was being developed. I don't know where the "craft" comes into the picture because it was evident to us that fine culinary craft does not exist anywhere at the Red Star. I know that Chefs take great pride in their work, but their chef might want to consider a career change. The menu is all over the place. Italian, pizzas, wings, Mexican, nachos, even Asian influences. I can honestly say that we did not enjoy anything about our visit. Even the beer list reads like a novel- great if they carried some cool specialty brews, but I would say about 75% of their beers are IPA's. it was later in the evening, but now after reading other reviews we should have known better and just left the mall. I hate to say it- but we could have had a better meal at a California Pizza Kitchen. The chili was flat out nasty. Tasteless. More like a cafeteria style "hot bean mush". Their Margherita pizza was horrible. Soggy, terrible cheese, no salt, and too much garlic. I remember being in Naples and learning that a Margherita pizza is only to be made with San Marzano tomatoes, olive oil, sea salt, fresh mozzarella and fresh basil. This pizza had what seemed like a marinara sauce or a Sunday gravy- not the simplicity that you'd expect from a classic Margherita. I also don't know why it was undercooked and soggy. The salmon BLT needs to be taken off the menu. It was disgusting. Our server was okay. No one really seemed to go out of their way to be friendly here. Even the hostess was cold. We felt as though everyone we encountered was inconvenienced by us. Not the vibe we were hoping for. She did notice that we ate only about 10-15% of our food and did ask if there were any problems. I did mention that we just were not happy with anything. She asked if we wanted to "exchange" our food for something else but we declined knowing full well that the food at this place is sub par (and that's putting it mildly). She said she would notify a manager. We noticed her go to the bar to talk to the manager and then she told us he would be over in a minute. We waited for 5 minutes until we noticed the manager looked like he was having a drink at the bar with a friend or a more important customer- so we just took the check, left an 18% tip and got out of there ASAP! Please know that you've been warned. I hope they're lucky enough to get on an episode of "Restaurant Impossible".

So much beer, but they don't do flights? Instead I made my own flight, asking for samples for 5-6 different beers. So it worked out, I commited to one eventually. Appetizers were good, especially the nachos. My fish tacos were good, but a bit small. Desserts are a bit small too, but good. Overall, I probably would give it another shot.. Update: I hear they added flights! And with all 3 courses, I was definitely full!

No Titos. Bad start, but they have lots of beers on tap and the live music was great. I had some lettuce wraps which were fine, but some others at the table weren't satisfied with their sandwich and tuna salad. Our server David was very good and attentive. I'd say if you're at the mall and are hungry or thirsty it's a good choice.

I wish I would've read the reviews before going. I looked at the menu online ahead to see if it would suit us. Get there and find out a dozen things aren't available yet including nachos & pretzel bites, really? You can buy them at Wegmans! Service was terrible, new and clueless. I understand new restaurant and all that, but come on. They need to figure out who this restaurant is serving. You are in a mall, get a kids menu with fairly priced kids drinks. If you are serving them in a kids cup, they shouldn't be the same price as an adult drink. Lettuce wraps had dry chicken and wilted lettuce. BBQ pork sandwich, bland and hardly any sauce. Overpriced, not worth it. Would have had a better meal at the food court!

My family and I received a 50.00 gift card to Red Star for Christmas and decided to use it tonight. It was by far the worst meal we have ever had out. The portions were very small for the price and the flavor of our meal was bland. The 15.00 12 inch pizza was cold and soggy. The Eastern Carolina Wings smelled like body odor and tasted gross! We told the manager that we didn't want anything, we just wanted to let her know how bad it was and we will never return. Anyone who asks us we will share our thoughts. Oh, by the way, the service was great.

Good experience. Came with my mom who is picky about seating and they accommodated us with a smile. Great food and easy atmosphere.

Great spot in Exton - good beer selection, yummy food, cute outside seating. You almost forget you're at the mall. Exactly what Exton needed.

RUN!!!! poor service from ditzy people, rude manager who insists the free pizza deal on yelp should have a code and repeatedly makes you "check in" and food that tastes like cardboard. oh, and half the menu doesn't even exist here. we ordered a bunch of items only for them to come back to our table saying "sorry we're new - just opened 3 weeks ago and we don't have a full menu yet" also, the dessert is atrocious. I've tasted better at costco.

To the owner Close for a few weeks and try and get your stuff together. Pizza is so bad we could not eat it. Asked for more cheese for the cheese fries and we were told that they were to busy to get it. Wings were bland at best. Yes a new restaurant in this area will always get the people packed in but as we have seen over the last 20 years it will not last. Over priced and bad food will never make it in this area. Oh did I mention the water with no ice....lettuce wraps with wilted lettuce and dry chicken....too much negative to write.

This place is like any other chain restaurant in the area just like pjs pour house the food is okay. The chicken and waffles isn't the best I have had better. The beers are nice but you can get the same draft beers anywhere else. I like how you can fill up growlers and get a nice selection of take out. Over all it's just okay

My wife and I decided to give this place a go since we are always willing to try new places. We got reservations for 7 and we were glad we did since the place was packed and the wait was about an hour or so. We were seated promptly and our waitress came over to introduce herself. We had a few questions about the menu and mentioned something about a "scratch kitchen". I asked her what that meant and in a snotty tone told us "its our own recipes and made here" Really? I had a simple question and its part of your job to answer questions. Since the place is new, you should be expecting questions. Moving forward. We ordered water, a glass of wine and a draft beer. The waitress came back and poured lukewarm water from what appeared to be a milk bottle into a glass without ice. We asked for ice and she came back with a glass of ice. This was annoying since we had to pour the ice into the glass without spilling or making a mess. If you are going to serve water, shouldnt it be ice cold? We decided to just play ir safe and order 2 apps since the table behind us sent their food back and asked for a check. I decided to try the brisket chili and my wife went with the shrimp lettuce wraps. The food came in about 10 minutes. My chili was more like a soup, It did have good flavor but it was a little too watery to be considered chili. The brisket had a good flavor and was made well. Not too crazy about carrots in my chili either. My wifes lettuce wraps were disappointing to say the least. Bland shrimp that were just thrown on a griddle to be warmed up, zero flavor and werent even hot in the middle. The vinagrette that came with the wraps tasted like it was from a bottle too. Not what I expected. Our waitress didnt even bother to ask us how things were and when she returned we asked for our check. I couldnt believe how much it was, $36!! yes, $36 for a beer, 2 apps and a glass of wine. the 7oz glass of wine was $12 in itself and my beer was $9. The same beer would have been $5 anywhere else. I dont see myself coming back to this place any time soon. It looked interesting and nice but the prices dont reflect what you pay for. We actually left and went across the street to the pour house where we split a bowl of soup, got 2 real burgers and 4 drinks for the same price. Talk about a ripoff,. the same beer was $5.50 over there. I understand its a mall and things are a little more money but how? Its exton, not las vegas.

We finally got to enjoy a nice dinner at The Red Star. Our food was very good. But more importantly our service was beyond perfect. Our server recommend one of the specials and it was very good. Gwen was on top of everything with out missing a beat. One of the best servers I have ever had ( and I eat out a lot). I will definitely be back and I hope all the servers here are just as good as her. Thanks for making our first visit perfect.

Their draft selection is amazing, a wide range of approx 30 craft beers on tap. Their food is average, although the food selection is becoming more extensive.

Went here for my birthday. walked in no one at the front desk. many employees not one acknowledges us. five minutes later someone comes and says 3 ? let me see if a table is available. we are looking at6 empty tables. she comes back and says follow me. we sit and again we must have had the please ignore me table. 10 minutes of being ignored not even a hello we left. I was so excited to go here for my birthday. Defiantly felt like I was bothering them. I won't both them Anymore.
