Customer service is great. First time here and they gave me a great surprise. People were kind and all the food is freshly made. You can never go wrong with freshly cooked food. I'd definitely recommend to friend and I'll be bragging about this place to all the food critics in DC great Philly.

I chose this place instead of the restaurant next-door because they had better reviews. I must say I made a good choice. I had to wait for 15 minutes or so but the food was fresh. The wings are dipped unlike a place I ate the other day where they just pour sauce on top of the wings once they put them in your basket. The wings were pretty good and meaty. The fries were really good and crispy and I got an abundance of them. The service was super friendly. The prices were a little high but reasonable. I would definitely visit this place again.

In town for less than 24 hours for a Ford Truck Club meeting. Hotel room wasn't ready so went looking for a lunch spot. Found Big Joe's on Yelp and went in. Said I was in from CA. for one day and asked for their recommendation. When in Philly, go with a Big Cheese Steak! Half would have been fine. But I did finish it. My only cheese steak experience has been CA wanna be's, so this was excellent in comparison. Just as a beef sandwich, was very good. Lots of meat, cheese, onions peppers and added pickles too. If ever in the area again I would definitely stop by. Not sure that will ever happen, but definitely worth the stop today. Thanks guys!

Close to the airport and definitely worth a stop. The cheesesteak was bulging with steak, cheese, onions and peppers. The fries were so hot I had to let them cool before eating. The service was friendly and fast. Be aware, very limited seating - only 8 stools. I showed up at 1:15 and got a stool. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed.

Best Wings hands down! Was in the mood for some wings and it def hit the spot. Had it with a "lil cheesesteak" hoagie with fried onions. At $6 an item and $2 two litter sodas, its hard to beat. Im sorry they are not in NY, I will def come back here when Im back in philli.

The place used to be called Jim's! Now Joe's. Same good quality and tasty philly cheese steak hoagies. I had the hoagie and an cream soda. Yum'

Gave this place another try and I'm glad I did. Ordered a cheese steak here when they first opened (about 8 months ago) and I was not impressed so I never ordered anything again until tonight. I ordered a big meatball sandwich with sharp provolone. Loved the meatballs and cheese. The balls were handmade, big, and slow cooked. Not some processed frozen crap from a bag that some pizza places will serve. The cheese wasn't overpowering or too sharp. Just right. Only complaint about the sandwich was the sauce. Not much sauce and big ol chunks of tomato, which I'm not a fan of personally. The mozzarella "wedges" were fine. Nothing special, no complaints. The marinara was pretty bland.

You can get them in two sizes, Lil or Big. Big is extremely big. Feels like two feet. Lil is 6 or 8". Don't fret. The bread is unctuous and wonderful. Prices are good and extremely reasonable and I say this as a Philly transplant from western PA who usually thinks "reasonable prices" people talk about in the city as way too damn high for what you're getting when eating out at a lot of craft beer bars or other establishments. I'm not rich. The sandwiches have their ingredients piled high. I usually stick with the Lil and am stuffed when I finish. The Special Italian is extremely good. Great hot pepper spread. Meats, wonderful, especially the capicola and the whole thing is a slammer with the sharp provolone. Beware with some of the hot sandwiches - cheese steaks, hot pork (which is definitely worth ordering) - they come off the grill and onto the bun blazing hot and extremely juicy, if you don't eat them quick they start sweating. Beware the sweat as it might make your bun a softer on the outside and start melting the innards. Soup specials are great as well. The chili is a nice standout on colder days but eat it constantly if you can. Can't speak to the fries, wings, etc. but do need to come in here and try the wings sometime, usually avoid them due to being on lunch at work, I only have a few dress shirts and can't afford to have a wing launch onto them. Good selection of bottled drinks and sodas, a few and small selection of chips and snacks on the side. Service is super fast and they're extremely pleasurable and friendly at the counter for ordering. Everything is made quick as well. Only worry here is that sometimes it can get a little smokey/greasy aired from the grill/flat top but nothing crazy. You can smell the meat and savory character down the block.

Awesome steak and sandwich joint just south of the airport. Really great guys behind the counter. Clean and super nice, despite the uninviting (industrial) neighborhood. If you are flying into Philly and driving to your destination elsewhere, plug this into your GPS and make a stop on your way out of or back to the airport - kicks the butt of the cheesesteak joint at the airport and is as good as any of the classic Philly joints in the city, without the parking hassle. Big Joe is a very cool guy, hope you will support him!!

Do yourself a favor and venture off the beaten path to Big Joe's. We stopped here on our way out of Philadelphia after seeing the good reviews on Yelp. It's located on the corner of a building and it's so unassuming we missed it the first time. I'm glad we found it though, because the cheesesteaks are no joke. We all got "Lil"...thank god because they were huge, stuffed full of steak, peppers, onions, lettuce and mayo and topped with tons of provolone. The hoagie rolls were so good they almost made the sandwich. We also ordered cheese fries which were generously smothered in gooey yellow cheese sauce. Big Joe cooks everything himself and is a friendly guy. Since it's right off the freeway, we will definitely stop here again.

This place is great. First it is super clean on the inside. It looks like if they just opened up yesterday for the first time. Second. The food is tasty and fresh. I had the Italian chicken cheese steak and it had a lot of flavor to it. Three. They have hands downs the best bread/roll I ever had. It was super soft firm and chewy. It is beautiful to look at. Seriously just stare at it then eat it. Four. The two guys (possible big Joe and lil Joe) are very friendly and polite. I will def be going back to try some more items.

Glad someone reopened the old Jim's Place. Feels the same inside, I have been coming here since 1995. Rolls are amazing, I had a small Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak. Get extra napkins! They have 6 bar stools and a lean to counter to eat at. We also order the crazy hot wings, they will clear your nose but are not super super hot, until you get to your 6th wing. Then your tongue will be on fire. Reasonably prices I will be back to get a traditional steak with fried onions.

Got a cheesesteak from Big Joe's while staying at a nearby chain motel. Excellent, full of meat, bread was fresh, a really filling meal. Nothing more I can say except that I'll definitely be a return customer the next time I'm staying in the area.

Amazing food!! Come here on a regular basis now that I found this gem...Great staff too!!

When Jims went out of business it seemed like Essington fell off the map for a good local cheesesteak. Well, Big Joe hooked it up! Not only are their steaks perfect IMO but their wings just cant be beat! Everyone that works there is super friendly and will make you anything so long as they have the ingredients. I look forward to trying their pork next! Keep up the good work guys!

I stop here on the way to and from Philly international. The wings are great, cheessteaks , hoagies and roast pork are all great. A must do.

Tasty juicy steak sandwich. Friendly service. Seating options limited to stools at counter and 2 souvenir seats from Veterans Stadium but good atmosphere for a quick meal.

If you are looking for a place that has culture and great sandwiches, specifically, cheesesteak hoagies, this is the place. The meat was fresh, the prices are very reasonable, and the service was on point.

This great little Mom 'n' Pop place just opened recently. New and super clean. I just had one of the "L'il" size cheesesteaks. The cheesesteak I ordered was excellent. I mean tasty! All the ingredients were fresh, and I love how all the juices and flavor get absorbed into the bottom of the roll. I ordered mine with onions and mushrooms and it definitely hit the spot. Even the "L'il" was big enough. Prices are descent. Looks like there's a full sandwich menu, hot roast beef, soups, and burgers. Looking forward to visiting this place more to try some of the other menu items.

First impression, lasting impression? Well I've ordered from here on 5 separate occasions always hoping for a different result. Friendly place but everytime I place my order it's always wrong and the bread is always super soggy.

Possibly the best cheesesteak outside the City, maybe even in the city!! When I drive through Pennsylvania back home to DC, this is where I go...you won't be disappointed!!

We just tried this place for lunch today. We have been waiting for something to replace Jim's Place, and this place fits the bill. The italian hoagies are good, the cheesesteaks are meaty, and the roast pork looked and smelled fantastic. We will be adding this to our lunch routine at work from now on.

We travel from Delaware to Big Joes at least once a month. Special Italian is the BEST sandwich I've ever had. Wings are delicious with plenty of sauce options. They also have daily specials and serve breakfast. Great family owned business and worth a stop when you're in the area. Only wish we didn't have to travel from Newark, DE to get quality food like this.

Came in for work and staying at the airport. Wanted to find a local place instead of chain restaurants and stumbled along here. Great sandwiches. Came here for both lunch and dinner and was not disappointed! Will become a regular if I have to keep going to philly!!!
(5)Chris J.
The sandwiches are amazing. I've had the steak and cheese and he meatball. The service is attentive and it is very clean. The wings were also very good. I wish joe the best with the business
