Not entirely sure why any review is less than 5 stars! Every time I come for dinner, I have already checked the menu & knew what I was going to get :) breakfast is typical to any place however I love that they will try to make you anything with what they have in their place. And did I mention they are BYOB?! A fantastic way to enjoy a meal is when you know there's no pressure around it- and Avantis provides that environment. Is it dinner time yet?!

This was not our first visit, but I fear it was our last. Went for dinner with my husband and daughter. She ordered the lobster ravioli, and they were out (Friday night, not Saturday, so I guess everyone was out of luck the whole weekend?). I ordered the pork shank. Husband had lasagna (which, in fairness to the restaurant, was good). My pork shank came out later than the rest of the meal and IT WAS STILL FROZEN INSIDE. How can a restaurant let a piece of frozen pork be served to a customer???? And the worst part was that I think they knew it might be. When it was served to me, the waiter said, "Let me know if it's not cooked right or if it's cold," Really??? They need to buy a thermometer and cook the meat before serving it. Can't say I'm in a hurry to return.

Old school diner in the Frontier section of Erie. Caveat: I've only eaten breakfast here. Menu has plenty of Italian influence as one would expect on Erie's west side. Quick service and friendly atmosphere.

Visiting a friend in Erie who brought me here for amazing hash & fantastic eggs Benedict a few months ago!! And the prices are great!! Just stopped by again on my way to Ohio and had a great breakfast. A little dark inside but the staff is great.

I really enjoyed my Saturday brunch here this weekend. When you walk into the restaurant, it does seem like you're stepping back in time into a dark, 1960s diner. The menu isn't huge... but there's definitely something for everyone! They're best for breakfast/brunch/lunch... and serve dinner on Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights. The waitresses were all very friendly... as is to be expected at such a restaurant in Erie! Did I mention -- the prices are stellar!?

I went there for breakfast and the server was not very attentive but they were busy. However I loved their frittata and their biscuits and gravy. Their biscuits were HUGE and only 4.99. Definitely a good meal, good deal kind of place. Great food and great flavor.

I really enjoyed their breakfast. I had been meaning to come here for quite some time but only finally made it - very early, a 6am on a random Wednesday. It was quiet, calm, and nice. The pancakes were decent (although I don't think that they were buttermilk) and the eggs were cooked to my preference. The coffee was above average for a diner. I'll be back.

I've been to the old Avanti's a thousand times for breakfast, but I hadn't been there for a few years when I heard they were under new ownership & they had taken their menu up a classy notch or two. My first impression: New paint & new curtains, the place looks fresh on the outside. Inside: They didn't remodel?!?! The inside looks exactly the same as the outdated breakfast diner I remember. It's dark & dank and the glass doored coolers just behind the counter that once displayed slices of pie now sit empty. The menu: I was a little put off by the prices (because of the atmosphere)... but once the food started coming, everything was EXCELLENT. We had the crab-cocktail. It was a bit unusual, but it was good. I had the tortellini topped with a cooked medley of veggies in chunks. It was just plain excellent. It was fresh & flavorful. My date had the tortellini topped with a sausage & pea medley that had other veggies as well. Also fantastic. The portions were generous and the food was really delicious. The quality and the prices are fine Italian dining, but the atmosphere absolutely is not. My hope is that they'll remodel once they establish themselves. Overall, I'm glad I checked it out.

Tried Avanti's after hearing several people rave about it. Gotta say I was not that impressed. Was told that there were a bunch of vegitarian options. When I asked the waitress about these options I was told that they had onion soup and a house salad. Oh and bruchetta. The bf had the tenderloin scampi for $25 and only ate half. Wasn't impressed either. On a brighter note we brought our own bottle of wine which they were more than happy to cork for us with no fee. Staff were friendly and prompt as well.

The food was great! I am usually a picky eater(check the ever changing menu ahead of time) and wasn't sure what to order. The soup was awesome. The steak was one of the best I ever had. The staff was very freindly an attentive, they did not mind us sitting and talking well after food was gone.

Good food, dismal service. Perhaps it was just a bad day and half the wait staff called off. But on Sunday morning? Come on. No butter on the toast, nor were there any packs on the table. Please...

Great place for a nice dinner with friends. BYOB. Very good Italian food. Everyone I know love the new dinner menu under the new owner. Breakfast is still the original menu, love the Sicilian skillet!

They serve breakfast until they close, at 3. A very nice place to start your day. They have many toast options, and know when to refill your coffee.

Was very disappointed in my breakfast. I ordered the potato pancakes, after I ordered I was speaking with the manage/ owner and asked, are they homemade, his replay NO frozen ...Sadness came over me. They were deep fried greasy pancakes. The sausage Patty was very salty. The eggs were cooked perfectly... The service was good considering how busy they were... I don't understand why they would put a special of potato pancakes and not make them from scratch.. Since there pretty easy to make... I will give them another try next time I am in Erie...

We've been living here in Erie for almost a year now and didn't realize we had this gem basically right down the street from us. After noticing this friendly little corner eatery while driving past a few weeks back, we finally worked our way over for brunch and I am nothing but impressed. The decor is really chill and sort of takes you back a good 40 years: a bit dim with the the dark wood columns and panels lining the walls and the old fashioned counter/bar eating area with spinning stools. The whole vibe of the place came off as pretty laid back too- a local classic rock station playing just loud enough on the radio out of the retro 1970s-style speakers embedded in the wall, quiet conversations buzzing from the booths as well as amongst the regulars at the counter talking about their days' happenings, and waitresses that were quick to refill your cup of joe while joining in on the chatter (ours talking about The Chilli Peppers song on the radio and her struggle to land tickets to a upcoming concerts) added to the relaxing, "ah, this place is my kind of place" vibe. We had a mix of foods: cheese burgers, omelets, french toast, soup, coffee and tea... and everything was spot on taste-wise, while prices were comparable to any of the local breakfast/lunch joints. Unlike many of the chain places I've been to here in Erie, Amanti's (not a chain) did not load their dishes with salt and grease either. All to often, I have walked away from many a meal at some other places feeling weighed down by the full tank of food in my belly that seemed to take my overall healthiness factor down a few notches. Avanti's proved to be otherwise. So, the food: My garden omelet was loaded with veggies... and crispy veggies at that (not soggy old from-the-can mush). The french toast (which is served a la carte by the piece), as simple as it was- italian bread french toast- stood right up there with some of the better french toast slices I've had in my day (and I'm a HUGE french toast junkie who makes some pretty darn good french toast himself). The wife claimed that her cheese burger topped any other she has had elsewhere (I tried it and thought it to be one of the better burgers I've had in a while and at 3 bucks, a winner it is). Coffee hit the spot (and I'm a bit of a coffee snob as well) and the waitress made sure my cup never hit empty. That said, the service was all smiles and even as a first timer with newbie questions regarding the menu and seating, we felt very much welcomed and at home right off the bat. Avanti's is definitely worth a visit for their breakfast/lunch menu. Grab your family and friends and head on over to W 8th. Even if you're riding solo, bring your newspaper and your appetite and take a seat at the counter for a relaxing morning. Oh and for those somewhat new to the area, a beautiful park - The Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park (LEAF) is only a block away. It's family friendly with eye pleasing natural landscape, beautiful trees, and easy to traverse/stroller friendly paths - a great spot for before and/or after your meal. See you in the neighborhood folks.. and this is definitely a old school neighborhood kinda joint!
