Sushi at its best with out all the over the top crap. Many new types to try every time you visit and most important to remember is the byob!!!!!!! Also a more intimate setting then most sushi places witch makes the service very good and speedy. Every time I go I make sure to try something new off the specials menu and it is yet to disappoint.

I've never written a yelp review before and had to because this place is that good. I love sushi and have my favorites in several cities that I travel to but this surpasses them all in freshness and price. Don't let the shopping center location deter you. I've never had fresher or more creative sushi. A must every time I'm in town.

I will be honest here. I live a bit closer to a sushi place that I absolutely LOVE but sometimes you need some "strange" (get your minds out of the gutter folks) Avocado is a smaller Establishment, without the showmanship of a Teppanyaki joint, but that isn't a bad thing. If your simply looking for sushi, and not the volcano onion.....your in the right place. The Chef's focus here seems to be on small bites with beautifully choreographed and orchestrated flavors,,, and wow,,, he delivers in a big way!! He is innovative , creative, and for this area,,, He thinks outside of the box. You can get the basics here, but why bother...there are far more interesting paths along the pallet that this gentle man can lead you down. I originally came for the "traditional sushi" ,,,I returned for the TMA and to discover what is up his culinary cuff next.

This review is based solely on my all you can eat sushi experience. My friend and I were in the Scranton area and dinner was fast approaching, so we had to decide : head home and grab dinner locally, or try a new place. Seeing as we're always game to try new restaurants, we stayed in the area. We looked up all you can eat sushi on both Yelp and the web and found Avocado Sushi. Game on. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a large banner confirming 19.99 all you can eat sushi. We were golden. We headed inside and were promptly greeted and sat at our table with regular menus. We asked for the all you can eat menu and were handed menus and pencils with a smile. The restaurant is small and sparse, but well kept. Drinks were brought, and we got to ordering. All good. We'll, not quite ALL good. The all you can eat menu consisted of rolls ONLY. No pieces of sushi. No sashimi (to be fair, sashimi IS rare at all you can eat sushi), and no real specialty rolls. Hmm. Ok, I'm still game. We like rolls. Round one was four rolls. Service took a while, but wasn't excessively long. Food arrived, and the problems began. To be fair, all of the fish was fresh. The real problem is there wasn't much of it. Of my first 4 rolls, the only one that was close to normal was the spicy tuna. Even that had problems though. Way too much rice, and crunch. Matter of fact, all of the rolls had too much rice, and most had crunch, regardless whether or not they were supposed to. My main problem wasn't the rice, or the crunch. It was the fish. Rather, the LACK of fish. I ate 8 rolls total, and other than the spicy tuna, the fish was all but missing. I ordered a Philadelphia roll, and I shit you not, it was a brick of cream cheese, with an anorexic - and I mean Somalian anorexic - piece of fish around 1/4 of it, bundled in rice. This was par for the course for the meal. Eel avocado (strangely called a green river roll) was the same; a wedge of avocado, where's Waldo eel, and a winter coat of rice. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. I believe 2 stars is appropriate, if not generous, and I'm sure my friends review well reflect a similar viewpoint. It's unfortunate, because I'd love to find a decent all you can eat sushi spot in NE PA. For now, I'll keep going to NW Jersey; that seems to be the best option close to home.

We've gotten sushi from here about four or five times and it's always fresh and tasty. We only get the vegetarian rolls (sweet potato, avocado, asparagus...) but they're reliably good every time. Plus they're super reasonable. I definitely recommend.

Worst sushi restaurant in the area. The service is poor and the quality is poor. They put more rice than anything else in their rolls. I ordered a hand roll once, and two rolls. They messed up my entire order. After they fixed it, I got my hand roll which the seaweed was old and crunchy. The roll was practically empty. Their sign says all you can eat all day but when you go in they just change the hours of when it ends to whenever they want, which is false advertisement. The all you can eat for 19.95 isn't really a deal anyway unless you're eating over ten rolls. You might as well just go to the store and buy a bag of rice because that's basically all you're getting at Avacado. Don't waste your time or hard earned money there. There's another sushi restaurant down the road or plenty in scranton and dickson city area.

Fresh and tasty sushi! Absolutely love this place. You gotta try the specials they have! Yum!

Excellent "all you can eat sushi" for only $20...and boy, are they patient because we take full advantage of that opportunity. Fish is fresh. The avocados they use in the rolls are PERFECT ripeness every time, which adds a great flavor.

Didn't like any food we got and waited a long time for server to finally come over. Sushi chefs just stared at us...won't be going back

This place is awful....now stay away so you don't take up all the tables & I have to wait!! The best sushi in dunmore & prolly NEPA!! Never had a bad meal here & I am picky, picky, picky!! Best bang for your buck, the service is great & the food is wonderful!! Keep an eye on the tv, you might just see a roll you just have to try, trust me they are all worth it!!

Went to Avocado for dinner. I was here a couple of years ago and it was so so, but it has SERIOUSLY improved. They have a nice mix of sushi and teppanyaki selections which is great for our family, since I am the only one that likes sushi. Family got food from the teppanyaki menu and the portions were generous and the food was cooked very well and well spiced. I ordered the All-You-Can-Eat sushi special and everything was fantastic. Super fresh and nice portions. They were quick on the preparation between rounds. Service was really good too. It was my birthday and they totally surprised us with a big platter of ice cream and tempura bananas on the house. Food was really awesome, service was very good, and the prices were very affordable. We just found our go to Japanese restaurant.

Hibachi good but no hibachi demonstration tables. Price is reasonable. $20 for all you can eat sushi. Large pieces but too much sushi rice. You have to finish the rice so you "don't waste". Small place. Dark atmosphere. There are better places in the Scranton area to get sushi.

Great place for lunch! I have had quite a few lunch meetings at this great little Sushi place in Dunmore. I ALWAYS get the Chicken Teppanyaki with a New York Roll. Even though they have a great selection on their menu, I have to always order the same thing. The Teppanyaki comes with steamed Veggies, like mushrooms, carrots, and others. Also comes with soup or a salad. I don't know what's in the New York roll, I just know that I like it! You can't go wrong for lunch here, and hopefully you'll find your favorite menu item like I did!

The food was solid and the Chirashi special was great. The reason why this gets the rating it does was for the ambiance and service. It was a busy Saturday night and only one waitress was working. This meant that i watched my sushi sit on the bar for over 10 minutes before it arrived at my table. It also took me roughly 45 minutes to get 3 sushi rolls. There were also numerous other patrons with small children literally running around. I understand that the restaurant cannot prevent this however it did put a damper on the experience. The only other issue was it was so dark I had to use my phone to read the menu. If you are looking for good sushi I would stop in otherwise head up the road to sushi and Thai if you want quality sushi, service, and ambiance.

Always a good experience when I go there. It's a little bit of a hole in the wall and you might not realize it is there from the highway, but the food is great. I have had a number of different items from here and I have never been disappointed.

The only keeping Avocado from 4 stars is its location/ atmosphere. Unfortunately the restaurant shares a very thin wall wall w/ a bar/ club w/ live music. The bass practically shook the restaurant. Despite this fact, I enjoyed my meal. The decor is typical strip mall sushi restaurant, which I don't mind. The service was excellent and the sushi was fresh. Prices were reasonable. BYOB. If you're looking for a good meal and don't mind the noise, try Avocado.
