Nice service. Food mediocre at best. Shrjmp cocktail was tasteless. Lamb chkps were fatty and tiny. The wild salmon was.not wild pwr the waitress. It was also a tiny portion of an end piece and was over cooked. Didn't stay for dessert.

I'm very disappointed in my experience tonight at the Waterwheel. After asking around, I received many good reviews about the restaurant's food...so I booked a party of 9 in the main dining room. All seemed to be going well, until the entrees came out, and 2 of the 9 were missing. We all sat for a few minutes, until the 2 diners asked us to start our dinners before they went cold. Time passed, and eventually we all finished our meals, but the 2 diners at without an entree!! No one came to the table to apologize. No manager visited the table, even when one of our party spoke directly to the manager! Eventually the remaining entrees made their way to the table, only to be be refused by the diners. Who even wants to eat once the majority of their party has eaten!! Absolutely epic fail on the part of the restaurant, and the server should be ashamed of herself (I believe her name was Crystal). What decent food server allows all of this to happen without any communication and then allows the ($350!!) bill to reflect a 20% gratuity?? As a former waitress, I was appalled. Up until the very end, no manager visited the table. The two meals that were never served were omitted from the bill, but no other restitution was made. The whole experience was tacky and classless. And when we left the restaurant, the woman at the front (who I was informed is the owner's wife) didn't even say goodnight. My first AND ABSOLUTELY LAST experience at the Waterwheel.

A fantastic Sunday brunch at a reasonable price in an 18th C. building is a wonderful way to begin a week. Although we reserve our brunch visits for special occasions because the array of offerings is so vast and enticing, the Waterwheel is a very special place to us: It is where we were engaged. Do try to reserve a table in the main dining room near the glorious fireplace. It is difficult to know where to begin when describing the Waterwheel's brunch. Some highlights are the magnificent smoked fish (with all of the appropriate accouterments), the amazingly delicious made-to-order crepes and the Eggs Benedict. "Genius" only partially characterizes the owner-chef's skill manning the array of portable burners used to prepare the crepes, omelets and Eggs Benedict. Not only does he manage to juggle three or four different items at a time, but each is perfectly prepared. Additionally, he is a very engaging personality. Based on our own experiences, we will return again and again for brunch and based on the reviews here, we are highly motivated to return for dinner, too.

I feel a little bad leaving only a 3 star review for one primary reason. The staff is SO friendly and accommodating. I rarely have experienced service quite like what I had today at the Waterwheel Sunday brunch. Unfortunately the service is the best thing they have going for them (along with the history of the place). The food at brunch was not very good at all. Between my husband and I, we tried just about everything on the buffet but only really liked a few things (crab omelet and the lox). Some of the food was cold, others were over or under seasoned, and some stuff just was not good at all. However, the place was packed so they must be doing something right! We will likely not be returning though.

One star because atmosphere was great and waiter was good. Ordered a special elk dish that was so overcooked it was barely edible. Horrible cut as well. Complained and they did nothing, literally did not ask why I did not like it. Never again.

We have been here many times and always love it! Food is fantastic. We love the happy hour and the service is always outstanding! Highly recommend!

This is my first 5 star rated restaurant, and it is for good reason. First off, the food is amazing. Owner Kenny Hicklin is one of the best chefs in Doylestown and he demands only the highest quality ingredients in all of his unique dishes. While the pub downstairs features its own pub fare, the upstairs dining area features exquisite American cuisine. My favorite is the Chilean sea bass topped with crab meat as well as the almond crusted trout. You really can't go wrong with anything you order. If they are featuring the crab bisque soup, order it and be ready to experience an amazing bisque. The staff is extremely friendly and have worked for Kenny for years. I recommend to anyone who is willing to spend a little more on dinner to experience great food in an awesome colonial style atmosphere.

I went for happy hour on a Thursday around 5 pm. We went to the wine cellar area of this establishment. They had half price appetizers from 5-6 pm. I decided to try something new after my friend told me about an espresso martini the waterwheel has on their menu. It was yummy and filled to the brim! As an appetizer, I ordered the crab meat martini which is lump crab meat served to you on a bed of greens with marinated cucumber and onion slivers. The crab meat was quite tasty --- you could tell it was a good quality of meat! The bartender was attentive, polite, and helpful with suggestions. A very enjoyable experience for my first visit.

The Waterwheel is a great historic Bucks County establishment in Doylestown. It was built in the early 1700's as a grist mill for early colonial settlers and supposedly provided flour to General Washingtons troops during the Revolutionary war. This establishment has something for everyone and offers catering for corporate events and weddings. They have two different menus for the restaurant and bar respectively. This place is not cheap as entrees range from 20-40 dollars in the restaurant. The food is always excellent and they offer an award winning brunch on Sundays for $25 too. They opened a new wine cellar bar and also have outdoor seating on the patio weather permitting. I believe this place has been in business as a tavern since the end of prohibition.

Pricey but you have got to experience the Sunday brunch. We do the brunch on special occasions. Also do the Christmas eve buffet every year. Staff is very knowledgeable and attentive.

Came here for a company party with my boyfriend a while back. The owner of his company had reserved an entire room just for us (about 30-40 people). The service was fantastic. There was always a server in the room checking on drinks and when we were served our meal the food was nothing short of delicious.

My boyfriend and I love The Waterwheel! They have the best brunch around, and their staff is so friendly!! We haven't been for dinner but definitely will try it out, we have only heard great things.

I really wanted to love this place; its just so quaint. However, the service was quite slow and unremarkable, the parking was a debacle due to a large party, and the menu was just too limited - particularly in terms of side dishes. On the upside, the beer pretzels were yummy and we enjoyed the peanut butter pie. It's highly unlikely that we'll return, but if we do, it will be to try the brunch everyone raves about.

Great Sunday brunch. Had my dads 50th birthday party here and it was great. Definitely recommend this place especially Sundays for brunch.

We only go to the cellar bar downstairs bc it attracts a younger crowd. Great apps, especially the homemade pretzel rods! Very personable staff/bartenders!

I have a tidbit to add to the history of this rambling country inn. Dorothy Parker used to hang out here with her screenwriter husband Alan when she owned a home nearby (in the 40s and 50s), their escape from NYC. (I kind of know where it is, and it is gorgeous but not really visible from the road.) So we did not come to the Waterwheel for the food, but to get a feel for this writer. We talked to the bartender in the small front bar and had a lovely time looking around the many rooms. I like to think that I sat at the same exact spot Dorothy might have, and I wondered what she would order to drink. In her honor, I had a Manhattan. There was nothing for us to eat, which is too bad, because I know the staff here could easily create a savory all-vegetable dish. I am kinda done with places who can only offer to make me something or take things off the pasta until it is totally boring, because a) I have to feel like a pain -- negotiation is hard enough without me having to do it when I am paying and trying to relax, and I admit I get lazy and let my spouse do it for me; b) it's a pain for the staff; c) I like things other than salad or pasta and can make great ones at home. Also, d) the ethics of food should be considered by all restaurants, or at least some ethical/cholesterol-free choices should be given -- in my dreams, right! So I just ended up going off a bit on this restaurant which isn't that much different from most others in the area I criticize, but it would have been wonderful to have stayed and eaten since we drove more than an hour to satisfy my whim to see Dorothy Parker's watering hole. I will say it has great 18th Century atmosphere, a beautiful porch and deck, and friendly staff. I hope you can forgive my crankiness, but I think I have lived in my region a few decades too long.

I stumbled across The Waterwheel while looking for a place to host christmas brunch last year. Since it was awarded best brunch of 2014 I figured we would give it a chance. How wonderfully surprised we all were! Since going for Christmas last year, my family has been back for brunch about five times with our sixth visit coming up this Sunday! We have totally started a new tradition! The decor and feel is cozy especially when they have the giant fire place lit, and the food is perfect for what you would want to have as a brunch. The egg station and waffle station never disappoint and they always have some new creation in the hot food section. There is always some kind of new pastry too so extra points for keeping the options interesting! I just love The WaterWheel!

I have had dinner here a few times, and have always had good food and a good experience. I have to write today though because I was there for a surprise 50th Anniversary brunch for my Great Aunt and Uncle this weekend. The whole experience was fantastic. Though they were not open for brunch that day they did a special closed party for us. There is nothing to complain about!! The staff was friendly, my cousin said they made putting everything together very easy. Highlights 1. The brunch buffet was HUGE - so many options just for us including quiche, baked bri, salad, fresh fruit and a carving station. I couldn't believe how much food they had out. 2. The omelet station - I have seen many brunch buffets with omelet stations but this one they made your omelet fresh but also made other fresh egg dishes including some of the best eggs benedict I have had in a long time. Usually at buffets they put the eggs benedict out all together pre made and it gets cold and the sauce congeals (ew) Here they poached the eggs, toasted the muffin and the ham and the sauce was wonderful!! 3. The drinks bloodies and mimosas were included and they were not shy on the pours! Bottom line if you need a place to host a party/group gathering in or around Doylestown - this is your place!!

Absolute gem, this place hits on all cylinders, the ambiance, service and food all wonderful. We eat out a lot and have all over the world. The waterwheel is our go to local place and that's saying something since we live in such a restaurant intensive town. My wife was in the food business and the ingredients are the highest quality and freshest.... There is no one in the back ripping open bags and boxes like in most restaurants. The dishes are creatively prepared and whether we are there with just us or 20 in a private room the service is always great. Absolute home run and a great place to try in Doylestown.

great for Sunday brunch, enjoyed for dinner too.

Very poor customer service and the "chef" does not know how to cook a steak. I do not recommend this place if you want good service.

Not a good experience. Waited for 25 minutes and were never approached by a server even when we brought it to the manager's attention. We left. Spending on a meal, especially for an occasion -- this was our anniversary -- when the mood has been affected by inattentiveness is not what folks expect of upscale establishments.

BUSINESS CLOSED: We are so sad! We called The Waterwheel on 4/26 as we wanted to go for brunch (mainly for their waffles, best ever), but a recording came on with the owners saying that said business has ceased, and new management has taken over, but the re-open date is TBD.

At 11:00am, I tore up: General Tso's Lox...loads and loads of lox..with chopped onions and olives Tender and juicy roast beef...sliced for you, like at a wedding AND tasty bloody marys Geeez, there are 390,875 different types of brunch items to select from...and all were redic deeelish Old as hell, Inn, where you can appreciate the history of PA and America. 'Murrica, mofos. 'Murrica.

Enjoyed a very pleasant Sunday brunch here in December 2014. Loved all the stations, especially the omelets and waffles with berry sauces. Coffee was well stocked, hot and tasty. Service was great and atmosphere tranquil for a Sunday morning. I've been to dinner here too over the years and had some of the best beef dishes ever. Also had drinks in the downstairs bar which is unique and cozy. A true Bucks County landmark.

Bottom line, Sun brunch was awesome, great food. Although the service was horrible an their bathrooms were foul. Always scares me to eat at a place that does not keep their bathrooms in check.

The Waterwheel is in a historic Bucks County building with great service, great food, and the ambience is just right!

What a pleasant surprise! We went for sunday brunch. It was $25 buffet style with an egg station, crepes and waffles made to order. They also had a nice variety of meats, salads, smoked salmon, hot breakfast sides and lunch options. And everything was very tasty. The building is full of character built in the 1700s. The staff was very friendly and provided great service. I would definitely go back.

GREAT brunch!!! Excellent quality, good variety and friendly service.

Over Priced. We enjoyed the atmosphere and food but felt the overall cost was approx. 25% higher than other comparable restaurants in D-Town.

Absolutely one of my favorite places to eat. The 1800's atmosphere based in revolutionary history is just charming. We've eaten in the main dining room and the new pub located downstairs and have had great service and great food in both places... lucky that it's only down the street from me. :)

Wow! Excellent food, really great building, and run very well. Had some mixed drinks at the bar and they were well made. The bartender made you feel at home, like I was a regular even though this was my first visit. Kind of off the main drag but well worth it. I heard some great reviews about their Sunday brunch, so I will have to try that out.
