My wife and I went here for Valentine's Day dinner. All in all the food was good the only issue I had was that it took too long from start to finish, about 2 hours. I know that judging a restaurant during a holiday crowd is not really indicative of how it really runs. That is why we are going to return, also because the food was good. I had the crab cakes which were very good. My wife had the salmon and she enjoyed it. In addition to a nice menu, they also have sandwiches and salads. The couple at the table next to us had burgers and they enjoyed them very much (the burgers looked great).

Great spot for breakfast lunch and dinner or just a drink with friends. I have experienced all meals and have always left happy.

First off, let me say that we really, really wanted to like The Hattery. It is a really cool place and it's apparent they have spent a lot of money on renovations. However, the cool surroundings aren't enough to save this restaurant from very mediocre food at high prices. Came here a few weeks ago with a party of six. Were seated immediately and the service was good. Ordered the short ribs which were severely undercooked and like a rubber band. Shrimp tacos and apps were ok. The best thing was the chopped salad which was really good. Was very underwhelmed by the first visit but tried again last night because again, we really want to like this place. Last night my wife wanted the chopped salad which was the only thing we liked from the first visit but was informed that it was taken off the menu. Disappointed, she ordered the beet gnocchi but was informed they were out of it (at 6:45 on Saturday night??). She then settled on the lamp lollipops appetizer and the onion soup. Lamb overcooked and onion soup unseasoned. Against my better judgment I ordered the Branzino which the waiter said was excellent, but sadly it was not. Dry, overcooked, no taste. We may go back to the bar there in the future for a drink after we eat at a different restaurant. Until they change chefs we will not be back to eat. Very disappointing when it is all form over function.

Had a poor breakfast experience due to service. Over 30 minutes to get two egg dishes ; never got a requested extra item; server rarely seen. A shame since the food when we got it was good (the baked eggs and an omelet).

Let me start off by describing the atmosphere in this restaurant is as good as it gets by my taste. Its situated in an old word hotel and decorated with hanging lights made of vintage hats along with a half dozen chandeliers of varying styles plucked out of local antique shops. We were escorted downstairs to a darkish room with exposed stone walls and sconce lighting reminding us of a very European setting. The dining area was roomy and boisterous enough that we felt comfortable dining with our young children. There was an old oak bar both downstairs and upstairs. I started off with a nice French Rose which is a rare find in most restaurants and an appetizer of oysters on the half shell. My wife also had the Rose and grilled duck breast salad. Her salad proved to be the only disappointment of the evening as the duck was served seared and practically raw. While I personal enjoy red meat on the rare side, this was far too rare for even my taste and had to be sent back. For an entree we both ordered the Seafood Gnocchi. After 15 years of ordering Gnocchi I have no reservations in telling you that this was the best Gnocchi I have ever had. Light, fluffy, melt-in-your mouth pieces of doughy potatoey goodness mixed with large chunks of crab and scallops in a pink sauce had no resemblance to the formed, frozen, and reheated gnocchi served at most restaurants. We savored this delight and have no choice but to add this to our list of memorable meals. There was a limited selection of desserts and I ordered the creme brûlée while my wife ordered the apple tart. Another special touch was that this restaurant knew how to make a perfect Americano which is another rare find in most restaurants. The experience was an overall delight and we will definitely come back.

Food is a little fancy at the expense of flavor. Would love to see bigger brunch menu with vegan options. One of our party ordered the baked egg which was overcooked and inedible, should have sent it back but it took too long to come in first place. Would rather have home style food, preferably organic, done well on a plate, than frou-frou food in cute baskets/special serving plates. Service was slow. Glad to see the chairs are better upstairs. Downstairs is too dark for day time dining.

Great atmosphere and the food is excellent. Been here a lot since moving to Doylestown and have never been dissatisfied.

Passed by this place a few times before going in and I can tell you I wish I would of gone in sooner. Great craft selection and the reuben I had was outstanding. Staff was friendly and welcoming and the place is a great little spot. Decor is cool and swanky I would recommend for the area for sure.

Food was good all around. I tried a special - penne pasta with ground sausage and a mole sauce. Tasty. I also had a bite of my brother's steak, and it was fantastic. I was surprised considering they aren't even close to a steakhouse. Service was okay. Server was nice, but not as attentive as I would have liked.

Came to give them another chance as we've had one good experience as well as two very mediocre. Sorry to say, another blah meal. came for brunch and ordered the smoked salmon platter, which was lovely, but came with nothing to eat it on. Asked for a toasted bagel which seemed to really annoy the server. Not sure what she thought we would spread the big slab of cream cheese on? So she went to the hotel lobby and brought back a cold bagel on a paper plate....swell. Neither my daughter or niece would eat their food....discovered that the bottoms of the grilled cheese and French toast were burnt on the bottom. Too many other great options in Doylestown. Wish I could love it as the decor is so fun.

Delicious food, amazing desserts and an outstanding setting. The live Blues Band was perfect too - not too loud, just the right feel for the crowd.

Chips and blue cheese not so good. The rest of the apps we had were dynamite. Clean oysters, mussels were amazing (ask for bread). Everyone loved the lamb, fish and chips, and the salmon. Wait staff was very attentive, but not over the top, in your face. Love, love, love the new addition to Doylestown. A welcome new a addition to the many duds in the area.

Great new place in Doylestown. Decor and ambiance fantastic. The good was very good as well. However don't order the potato chips with blue cheese. The mussels were incredible as well as the oysters. The lamb looked amazing and everyone that ordered it around us said how great it was. Will definitely be back to order entrées next time.

Anne and I quite enjoyed our meal. We had a quick dinner. The hot potato chips were great. Then I had the lo mein dish and she had the branzino. Both were quite good. We'll be back the next time we have a date night in doylestown.

First, let me say it's great to have another option for dining and drinking in Doylestown. Secondly, the décor and ambiance of the restaurant/bar are extremely sharp - very original and inviting. From there, our visit went downhill. My wife and I had a 6pm reservation. Thinking that calling ahead was going to get us a good table was my first mistake. Even though 80% of the dining room in the basement was empty (and we had a reservation), we were bizarrely seated at an uncomfortable high-top table under the steps and right next to the cash register. As far as the food, I understand there are always kinks that need to be worked out for a new place. However, the misses we saw with our food were not kinks, but outright bad choices in description, preparation and presentation. My wife's string bean appetizer was an overcooked mess of vegetables drenched in a non-flavorful greasy batter. My Alaskan Red King Crab appetizer was $14.00 for a pathetic amount of soggy crabmeat (about the size of my thumb- not kidding) served on a tray big enough for a seafood sampler. I actually laughed out loud when it came out. Unfortunately, it did not get better from there. My wife ordered the Chicken Roulade for her main course. The chicken was tender, but it was over-salted, and the accompanying white beans were practically raw. My "Chicken Pot Pie" with cheddar biscuit top was basically an appetizer-sized crock of cream of chicken stew with an overcooked hard disk of some kind of bread matter with melted cheese on the top. Again, laughable. The "filling" tasted ok, but the dish was an epic fail based on the fact that it was mislabeled as a pot pie (no crust) when in reality it was nothing more than an appetizer-sized soup. As far as the so-called biscuit on top, It was a total mess of burnt, overcooked dough and melted cheese flopped on top of the soup bowl. Drinks - no complaints. The Hattery Highball was a nice combo of bourbon and ginger beer. This place definitely has the cool décor and vibe that would make it a great place to go out for drinks, but I don't think I'd order anything off the menu again without getting a clear description from the server of what is actually being brought to you. Otherwise, you're likely in store for surprise and disappointment. Since they just opened, hopefully they get their act together and nip this nonsense in the bud because the place had the potential to be special.

The ambiance and food are not the problem they are very good. However the management is very rude and it affects everything about this restaurant. They could not keep their best bartender which is a huge loss, as her drinks and conversation were in my opinion the best part of being there. . If this restaurant wants to stay around the owners need to wake up and get new management fast.

As everyone else has mentioned, the decor is cool and inviting. However, a restaurant can't survive on decor alone. I really hope that the owners are aware of how inconsistent the quality of the food and service is here. We really want this place to do well, but unfortunately, unless they do something about the menu and the servers, this place won't be around for long. It's truly a shame. Also, very unfortunate is the fact that we have read quite a few articles about the wonderful chef. I can say this....there is NO WAY that same chef is cooking the food. So, we feel pretty duped. Hey, we gave the place many chances, so we are not willing to go back until we start to hear some good things about it again. in a nutshell: train the cooks and servers...PRONTO!

This restaurant is an adorable and charming space that in all likelihood will be another casualty in a long list of poorly managed restaurants in the Doylestown Inn. Perhaps there will be enough out of town visitors to keep it afloat, but all the locals I know are pretty fed up. If you want to go, go only in a weeknight when there is less traffic. If you try to go on the weekend, as we have many times, you will leave angry and disappointed. I went with a group of 7 on several occasions, and each time wondered why we bothered. If we try again, it will only be on a weeknight, or when they fly a banner that says under new management. Nobody seems to be minding the store right now. Attitudes, poor service, empty restaurant with reservations holding tables, kids standing around texting instead of helping you... The food is good, but they need to change the menu seasonally. Oh well, time will tell if they make it. Bad news travels pretty quickly.

The food was very good despite my the children's Mac and cheese. That was boxed and $6. Shrimp taco very tasty. Kitchen was slow, but server was good.

Came back tonight for late night casual dinner and drink after a movie and had the shrimp tacos and burger and they were great! French fries were hot and fresh. The burger with egg on top was perfect! The calamari was okay...plentiful but not enough spice to it. Our server Michael was great, very efficient and friendly. Nice night out for a decent price. Still haven't tried a dinner again...maybe next time?

Visited The Hattery for brunch this morning. 4 stars for food, 1 star for service (my husband wanted to give 2 stars overall). We ordered the fish tacos, BLT, and octopus salad. Really decent meal and pretty decor. However, we probably won't go back because the service was so terrible. We were actually planning to come back for dinner, but decided against it. Our waitress was extremely unfriendly, bordering on rude. She barely approached us, and we had to ask several times before our drinks were refilled. We felt like we were inconveniencing her. It wasn't even that busy, and our meal took over 40 minutes to come out. Like previous reviews have said, this place will do well if they can get their act together.

It's not bad here...it's just not great. (Sigh). Another Doylestown Disappointment. The menu is new & unique and the first visit here (3 days after they opened) was fantastic. Had the cheese plate, pink champagne, potato chips with blue cheese & for dinner the shrimp tacos & hamburger. We loved it. Our friends loved it. We told other friends about it. Talked it up at the gym. Then we went last Friday night and felt that old familiar feeling; another restaurant jumped the shark. We were seated downstairs (did have a reservation & should have requested upstairs). It was so loud and the bar is another Freight House Meat Market. The latter of which, who cares ,but the noise - deafening. I'm not at a Led Zeppelin concert. The server was great, he had all these tables & green busboys and he kept his calm and managed to keep drinks refilled & food out on a timely basis. Don't order the $14 Red Rita - bland watermelon cocktail not worthy of the NYC price. Yawn. And the food this night was all just ok. The truffle clam pasta special was cream & cheese based (which should have been revealed at the beginning) & just so average but sounded epic in the description because the cheese sauce overpowered any hint of clams. Our friends gave their chicken pot pie a B+ after 2 bourbons and the hamburgers - good but nothing to write Yelp about. We didn't stay for dessert due to the high noise decibels. Breathed a sigh of relief once out on the street and didn't even mind the motorcycles zooming by that sounded so much quieter than our dining experience.

Service was friendly and food was great! But for a late brunch on a Saturday the wait for food seemed excessive. May not be the best choice if you're in a hurry but worth it otherwise.

This new addition to Doylestown Inn truly is wonderful. The nostalgic feel and cozy atmosphere make it a must for locals and those visiting. Great management, reasonable pricing and profession selection of drinks ensure this hot spot will be a success. Chris L. runs the best joint in town.

Great pub fare - we had dinner there 8-21-2014. The atmosphere is wonderful, old-world chic shall we say. Good crowd, lots of happy conversations. We had the arugula salad and a roast beef sandwich special - both were delicious and FRESH! Our waiter was Albert and he was excellent - friendly, knowledgeable and professional. He made our night out even better. We are glad Doylestown is finally getting a few good spots - looking forward to our next visit!

Solid 3 stars. Nothing amazing but not terrible either. Octopus appetizer was delicious. As was the cheesy polenta. The strip steak sauce was not good. We had to ask for an alternate one. They brought the one for the filet which was slightly better. The bipimbop was very good. No complaints. Someone in our party got the black noodles as recommended by the waitor. It had a very strong liquorice taste. Although there are people that lile liquorice, it is a very particular taste and the waitor should have warned about it. It had to be sent back. Service was good. Our water was always kwpt filled. The drinks were average. The crowd was a typical Doylestown crowd, older couples and cougars mixed with people their kids age. Makes for interesting people watching.

Great ambience, good food but service was slow. It's ok if you are not in a rush and like to stay and hang out but if you are starving, be prepared to wait. I loved the decor and the drinks. It would have been ok if the waiter had been more attentive but it was busy that night.

We've been hearing of a new menu in the works for months since the much-ballyhooed original chef who developed the current one apparently didn't work out. The current kitchen staff executes the current menu rather badly. Chipotle shrimp tacos were bland and missing ingredients promised on the menu. At breakfast at least the waiter (one he showed up at breakfast) was honest in admitting that the salmon was no longer house-smoked as the menu says. Respect your customers enough not to lie to them on an easily corrected paper menu. Corned beef hash was more like chili, swimming in a sea of greasy broth in a bowl. Will give it one more strike if they get around to a new menu before improving.

I hate to say what a disappointment, but I just did. I was really excited to try this place with some friends b/c I am dying for a restaurant in Doylestown that I cannot wait to go back to, but I guess I will keep waiting. I thought the service was decent and the ambiance was very cool and trendy, although I must complain about the lighting in the basement. It was so dark that I could barely see what I ordered and if my steak was done correctly. I don't think they need fluorescent lighting or anything but they have beautiful chandeliers upstairs and then hardly any lights downstairs. Anyway, onto the most important thing here, the food and this is where the disappointment really sets in. First I would like to say I am pregnant so that ruled out some of the menu options and my one friend is a strict vegetarian, possibly vegan, maybe gluten free picky eater, so the chef actually had to make her something off menu, which he did and she really liked it. I ended up with the $33 strip steak b/c I did not want a burger or chicken. The steak was good, but it did not have any seasoning, it lacked flavor. I could have gone to anyone's house for dinner and gotten the same steak and I could have gone to Costco and gotten a whole package of steaks for the same price. I was excited to try the potato o's that came with the steak, but that also had no taste, it was like battered mashed potatoes, but tasteless mashed potatoes? My other friend had the bipimbap, it tasted good, but like normal Chinese food. My husband had the tuna burger, which he said was flavorless too. I also got a Caesar salad since I knew my husband would have some of my steak, it was $9 for a relatively small salad and I made my friend taste it b/c I swore it tasted like lemons. It desperately needed some more dressing. We ended up spending $85 (my husband got 2 beers) and I would have been way happier eating burrito bowls at Chipotle for $20. I don't mind spending the money, but give me something with flavor and that I want to come back for.

First visit for my husband and I. We were seated down stairs and it was very loud. Service was ok, I felt a little rushed. My husband had burger and he enjoyed it.. I had chopped salad which was fresh and very good. Chips were good but smothered with blue cheese. Menu could use a little help it was more of a bar menu or lunch, not full dinner menu. We will probably go back for another try since we like Doylestown.

I had to see what everyone has been talking about, so we went this weekend. Love this place and so glad we finally have a place to go in town that fits us. We had the hot potato chips with cheese fondue and I had the chicken roulade. My friend had the beer battered string beans and mussels. The chips were so good. I told myself that I would only eat half and ate the whole plate. We couldn't stop! The chicken was really tender and tasty. I thought the cocktails were the best in town. I had a drink with fresh watermelon that I am still dreaming about another. Had a great time and cant wait to go back and have another watermelon cocktail. yum I do wish they had outside seating on a warm summer night.

The lamb chops - great. The chips -fun. The ahi was good. The atmosphere was very cool and then the 'but"- these folks need to get help that helps each other. Not a new concept in a wait staff, but when you have David chatting up some customer and the place is filling up looking for someone to provide service it's a recipe for failure. Let's hope they step it up, it's a cool little place that would be fun to come back to-

The bored hostess who informed us on a Tuesday evening with many visible open tables that the wait was 20-30 minutes should have portended the pitch of this place for the evening. No invite to enjoy the nice looking upstairs or downstairs bar or to take our name. But down the steps to the bar we went after all but persuading her to take our name for a table. Lively scene it was and maybe too much to handle for the bartender who failed to notice us. Omen número two. Much failed eye contact, hand waving and bar leaning later we placed a drink order. Ok drinks. Table ready and the waiter informed us in response to our comment that they seemed busy, "we're just trying to get through the holidays." Should have been warning #3. Ordered the 15 dollar Kobe burger. The waiter asked how we wanted it. Said medium. What arrived was a dried out, well overdone probably previously frozen patty. The waiters who brought the food circled our table several times with our appetizers and dinnrs because they got the wrong table number. Don't believe the pr about this "chef". He doesn't care and obviously the owner doesn't either after reading a few current similar reviews about the food here. I won't return.
