We landed here because this place was close to home and wanted to go out for Valentines day. To start the decor in here has obviously not been updated since the 60's. Besides from that my boyfriends meal of the salmon was excellent. I got an appetizer and was less then thrilled. The service here is so so. Very friendly waitress but forgot our soup and also was pretty slow in getting refills and the basics.

Haven't been here for a few years because of the awful experience but we thought maybe it was an "off nite" & this time (yesterday 4/11/15) would be better. What a mistake! Service was so so, and the food was lousy. Both of us had steak; Jim's was way overcooked & mine was under cooked. And then there was the cold asparagus, the butter did not even melt on it, absolutely horrible and inedible! They offered to warm up the asparagus when they brought the dessert tray! Great timing wouldn't you say. Ridiculous for the price when spending $120+ for 2. Would not return again and would not recommend that you go there. Never again!

We hit the Thorndale Inn a few times the past few years, as we live close by and pass it daily. The food was good, but for the price it should be exceptional. The same should go for the waiting staff. When spending $130+ on dinner for two, I expect A+ food and service, but received a B-. Here was the problem. At the end of the night, the owner would not accept our $25 gift certificate. He stated that they no longer deal with Restaurants.com , even though the gift certificate was purchased less than a year ago and states that it "never expires." He became quite combative and embarrassed us, told us to get our money back from the website?!? It was a gift. Really Mr. Owner, you would not honor a $25 gift certificate on a $156 dinner?!? (Yes I still tipped our server 20%, since it was not her fault) I hope the $25 was worth it Mr. Owner, because we will not be back, even though we are local. It's evident by the empty tables for a Friday night that he needs every penny he can get. 2000hr and only three tables, including ours were filled.

We had a group of ten, and the rest of the dining room was empty. Service was extremely slow. Our food came out in random stages. It took a long time to get a drink and if you were lucky it was the right one. The tortellini was over cooked and only had three scallops and three shrimp on it, for $26 not worth it. The linguini with seafood came out with angle hair pasta and it was just not good. In my opinion the food was overpriced and the place was outdated and smelly. We will not be going back ever.

Leisurely, but friendly service. Generous portions. Flavorful preparation of basic entrees and appetizers you'd expect. Nothing that surprises or delights, but no disappointments. Don't go if you're in a hurry though.
Went to a birthday party with a buffet set up. Food was great. Salad, ravioli, chicken, green beans and potatoes. Waitresses were great and efficient. Food was hot and ready to go when the birthday boy arrived. This is the 2nd time I have been to a party at the Thorndale Inn and would recommend it to everyone.

Entrees come with a huge loaf of bread, salad, the best potatoes ever and a few pieces of vegetable. Medium price but I left full. The creme brulee was a downer. There was a stench I quickly got used to. Great service. Worth a try

This was my first visit to the Thorndale Inn. We went with some family visiting from out of town. It was not my choice to go here, being from the area I knew this place had the reputation as an expensive place to dine. They have revamped their menu and now have entries around 15 bucks which is not bad. Service was solid but a bit slow. Food was of decent quality...A mix of American and Italian dishes. The place feels kinda dated inside, a bit dark and formal feeling. If they are going for a more casual menu the decour should be toned down a bit, I felt like I should have been wearing a suit rather than the shorts tee shirt and flip flops I wore in.

$.75 cent off all drinks during happy hour. Free buffet of shrimp, cheese, vegetables, wings and fried zucchini.

The service was painfully slow. I thought our waitress went home mid service. They food was meh. We won't be back.

Although widely familiar with Chester County and the surrounding area, my family and I are relatively new to the Thorndale area; it will be a year in December. We've passed the Thorndale Inn many times and thought we should give it a try. We're glad we did! Happy hour is Monday through Friday from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. We happened to miss the happy hour, but I understand they offer great drink specials and complimentary hors d'oeuvres. THIS PLACE IS OLD SCHOOL - complete with the orange slice and kale plate garnish - but man was the food great! We sat at the bar. I had the grilled Reuben and my wife had the Open Face Prime Rib Sandwich on Garlic Bread. My Reuben was piping hot and fresh; grilled slightly better than golden brown! The corned beef was piled high, but thinly sliced. The fries were hot and crisp - fried to perfection! They tasted fresh, as if the fryer oil was just replaced. My wife's sandwich was equally as hot and her fries were perfect as well. The rib melted in her mouth and the toasted garlic bread was a perfect compliment. Looking around at the other food items being served...if their appearance was any indication of their taste, we're in for a treat during our next trip to the Thorndale Inn. On the down side - although only minor - the bar stools are not very comfortable and there was no ambient music to create an atmosphere. There was a jukebox, but it seemed that if no one was playing it, there was no canned back up. Also - my first few beers were ice cold, but as I got to my third or fourth the beers seem to get warmer; perhaps as if they just stocked the cooler and I was getting to the new batch. All in all...GREAT!

It's our first time since the place was renovated and under new management. We were there with a family of 6 and sat at a corner table of the old section. The decor and white table cloth presented the same formal dinning experience as it had before. The bar area and the outdoor patio were done quite nicely and fit the more contemporary casual dinning. The wait staff was very attentive but slow. The menu offers a wide selection from bar/grill type to some expensive/fine cooking. Our orders covered both areas and the overall impression was OK. The Reuben sandwich was very good while the fish & chip was OK. The chicken-a-wok disk and the pasta dishes were not bad. I think the restaurant tries to serve both type of clientele and achieving an OK rating the best.

The bar in this inn is great. Large. When you sit down your not on top of anyone. They make the best BLT sandwich in Chester County!!

I had a good lunch there with my parents last year, so I was happy to take them again this year when they chose the Thorndale Inn to have lunch on their anniversary. But this year was a different experience. I ordered a Patty Melt - the burger itself was flavorless, as if the chef had just formed a patty from hamburger and added nothing to it - and the toast it was served on was burned black. I give that meal a "1 Star" rating. My parents both had the Veal Parmesan entree that while they said was tasty, looked like a pretty small portion of meat and small side of spaghetti - too little food for $15. I'd rate that "2 Stars". Thank goodness the waitress was prompt and friendly, though we never saw her again after the food was delivered until we were done (no "how is everything?" during the meal). She gets a "3 Star" rating. So, while last year I would have given this place a solid 4 Stars, this year they get a 2 Star rating from me, pretty disappointing after I've hyped the place up to several friends & neighbors who had been turned off by the food & service under the previous owner and chef of a few years ago.

Really, really good bar menu. Ate in the formal dining room once and wasn't as impressed. Nice diversity for a bar menu and the basic roast beef sandwich is my favorite.

Used to eat at Thorndale Inn a lot as we got consistently good food. We moved away for several years and then returned to the area. Been back a couple of times since then. Dissapointed. Food just OK but service spotty. Place all but deserted and we felt like afterthoughts. Largest issue is price/value relationship. Just not there. Sense is they are high priced. I have no issue with high prices if food and service is very good. Not seeing it at the Thorndale Inn right now. Hope they can turn it around as area could use a first class restaurant.

Omg went here for happy hour. Miserable people and you must sit at the bar to partake in happy hour. Not at the tables in the bar. Really?????? Wanted to go I the main dining room after for dinner. Instead we went to Pronto. Where they are kind and I can sit anywhere for their specials. It's really a shame. Loved this place.

This place was not great. The waiter who served us was friendly but I could see right through his polo shirt; it had been washed so many times it was becoming transparent. The dinner was okay but the portions did not reflect the price. On my next visit, I went to the bar and ordered the cheese fries thinking it was an easy dish not to be messed up. Touché, Thorndale Inn you got me! The fries were over cooked and the cheese was burned. I will not be retuning again.
