A trip to Win Wah for dining in today proved to have some delicious food and nice add-ons, but this strikes me as the type of place that would be better served as a carryout location then a dine-in location. Atmosphere - Walking in was... unimpressive. I saw that both Win Wah and the restaurant next door both have Chinese/Japanese food. I went with Win Wah because the lunch specials were very affordable for the most part. Inside is a mix of drab wallpaper, fake flowers at the table, and a large fish tank with a few goldfish inside. The hard wooden booths were not very inviting either, and the chandeliers with the brass fixtures looked outdated. Other then a few lunchtime diners, place was not busy. Waitstaff - A polite waiter greeted me with hot tea and offered a menu for review. Not as conversational, brought food out on time and hot which is always important. Brought the check and brought slip back quickly too, nice work! Food - Okay, for as plain as the interior looks here, the food is awesome! Win Wah does Chinese food right. From the orange duck sauce and crisps when you sit down, to the delicious lunch portion of sesame chicken and brown rice, everything here was very delicious. I'd rather they spend money on making their food good anyway, and the things I had here were a home run. Intangibles - Have a lot of 'clutter' when you first walk-in, from the takeout cooler with drinks to the neon signs, to the large vases that center the fish tank, just seems like if they remove some of the clutter up front and add some TLC, they'd have a really nice dine-in location too. When I dine out for Chinese, I also like to have some sake or an Asian beer, liquor license did not exist from what I saw here. Overall - Great place for takeout, but for dining in, eh, not so much right now. The food though is hard to top and a great place for a quick lunch (my total bill with tip was less then $10!) Good location and Good food, just needs some interior renovation and they'll be able to draw a much more fancy and spendy kind of crowd.

I'm surprised how poor quality and overpriced both the sushi and Chinese food is. You would think with such a great location on Fayette St they would try a little harder.

Don't get me wrong I love the food, but the service Is terrible. The main waiter is rude and cuts me off when I speak. They definitely won't be seeing me again.

Have gotten delivery many times and have been happy with our food. Great crab rangoon. Great wonton soup. Good pork fried rice. Great sushi. We dined-in yesterday and the food was pretty good... Have hot tea and "crunchies" on the table and their combo platters are priced very well. But the service was FANTASTIC! 5 stars! One of the nicest, most attentive waitresses I have ever had. Would definitely go back!

When I need a quick bite to eat and I don't really want fast food I come here. It's the best Chinese takeout I have found in the area so far

Attitude alone is unbearable. If anywhere else delivered sushi I would order tree instead. So rude on the phone and in person! Not to mention that they didn't even have a sushi chef there for like two years!!! HELLOOOO?! Do you not want business? I can only hope the sushi I just ordered makes up for the attitude over the phone. Tip: fire that guy.

We picked up soup from Win Wah tonight. It is pretty good. As others mentions staff of not all the friendly, but for quick take out the place is fine.

I've had sushi at all different kinds of places, and this is honestly one of the few places I really did not enjoy the sushi. I would not consider myself a sushi snob, but this was really just not good. The tuna was a very unpleasant color, there was almost no taste in the spicy rolls - just not a good experience. I also ordered the garden salad with ginger dressing - the ginger dressing they served on the side in a clear container - it was very congealed and an unpleasant texture and again, not much taste. To be fair, with work I have had good chinese food takeout from here - but it was honestly one of my worst sushi experiences to date.

Your basic Chinese take out. They offer sushi, but it's not recommended vs the other local options. The staff can appear unfriendly at times, although on our our last visit, the host was very warm and accommodating.

Coworker and I went here for lunch the other day..pretty good! Typical Chinese delicious food - fried wonton chips and duck sauce on the table. Tea served in a teapot. Lunch specials come with soup or egg roll and a meal. Sweet and sour soup is good, General Tso's chicken is more on the spicy side here. Good stuff!

The Honey walnut chicken is probably the best thing I've ever eaten. It's a must have!

kind of feel like i wasted most of my money on this takeout order. We got the deluxe sushi. The only sashimi that didn't smell or taste very fishy/rancid was the three pieces of salmon. This was a 20 piece item including some kind of claw, squid, bass, yellow tail, tuna and octopus. The shrimp wasn't super fishy but was very tough. Really feel like I wasted 20 bucks on a bunch of bad sushi. They gave me used chop sticks that had been opened and returned to the paper case. They had soy sauce all over them and had been torn apart already. Lucky for me I have reusable ones at home and I'm not a germaphobe, but really? The service was great, a cute little place and a mindful hardworking host. Everyone sitting down had what appeared to be cooked Chinese dishes so maybe that is more their strength? That's got to be it. The miso soup had a conspicuous amount of fish sauce in it that I felt took away from it. The crunchy noodles are out of this world! Very skimpy with their spicy mayo side, it was good but wow, could you spare a little more? Two stars because most of our lunch went in the trash. Stick to what you do best, win wah which appears to be Chinese.

I typically order out from here for sushi. It is typically very good and comes within 30 minutes. I have had some experiences where it has taken over 80 minutes for delivery. The food whether Chinese or Japanese has been of good quality every time!

This review is for how this establishment BILLS - nothing to do with the food as I cannot vouch for this. One of my bankers was traveling on business here and ordered about $70 worth of delivery food from Win Wah. Our company's reimbursement policy only allows for $75 per diem expenses on food. Her bill came out to $74 and change. Granted, I know that she 100% skimped the delivery guy on a tip (which was wrong) because of this cap; she should have just paid that out of pocket. Nonetheless, am I'm going through her bills, I noticed that this establishment took it upon themselves to add $10 to her credit card bill for the tip. Just a note so folks can keep a look out for this.

I got carry out from here yesterday and I can say that I honestly wasn't impressed. I basically was craving general tso's bean curd and can safely say this place did not measure up. The only reason I went is because it is the closest American Chinese place near my office. It seemed like the lunch special was a good deal (around 6 dollars for bean curd, pork fried rice, and egg drop soup) but after tasting the bean curd I can say that I mostly paid for sustenance, and nothing more.

Win Wah is convenient to where I work, so I decided to give them a try as the other Chinese place up the street (Dragon & Phoenix) was farther then I felt like walking. Utilized online ordering which is a plus when you don't have a takeout menu in front of you. I ended up getting the house special lo-mein and pan fried dumpling sampler. Decent Chinese take-out that I would get food from again. Mind blowing no, cheap and convenient, yes.

I've eaten/ordered from here a couple times. It's a standard takeout Chinese place, but they actually have a good amount of tables for eat in. Service isn't anything amazing. The kid that was working the front when I was picking up an order appeared to hate his life.

I've been to Win Wah before on the off chance that I had to pick up something and this was the closest place but in those instances this place only deserves a 2. The serving size for take out couldn't feed a 5 year old. But luckily I was able to do a work lunch with a client and experience the sit in feel. Well the difference is night and day. The service is fast and friendly. The portions are plentiful and the price was spot on for a lunch in Conshy. We had both sides of the menu; Chinese/American(beef and broc) and Japanese(sushi). With all that being said I will probably never go back for pick up but if I have the time I will definitely be back for a sit in meal.

I ordered the House Pan Fried Noodles tonight. The meats and veggies had very little liquid for the noodles to absorb - made them pretty dry. Then I bit into a piece of beef and found 2 staples... I will not be dining here again.

There is little more that could be asked of a Chinese place. Pick up orders are ready in 10 or less minutes and delivery takes about an hour. My friends and I have had their vegetable and shrimp mei fun, beef & broccoli, seaweed salad, spicy tuna roll, Christmas roll, sautéed broccoli, and my absolute favorite: spicy girl roll. Never had a complaint and everyone enjoys their food!

Love the combo options. Great deal for a great price. I love the location right on Fayette Street, so it is very accessible for a quick to-go pick up meal.

I've been living in the Conshy area for about three years now and can't believe I haven't tried this Chinese place sooner. Not only can you order and pay for your food using their website, it always arrives hot and so fast. I highly recommend their wonton soup as well as their chicken lo mein. Both are better than standard Chinese food. My husband loved the sesame chicken since it wasn't overly breaded like most Chinese delivery. As a bonus, they also have awesome sushi! The sexy girl roll is amazing!

I have some pretty good chinese places that are more local, but I tried Win Wah because they are on GrubHub and deliver to my area. It's super nice to be able to order online and pay with PayPal, so that is a pretty big advantage for them. Everything worked as expected: ordered online, food showed up shortly after, order was correct. Food was decent. Their dumpings are homemade and very good. I would recommend these. Sushi was just meh. I tried a couple of rolls, and they had more of a fishy essence than I care for. Not sure if it was the fish or the nori. On the upside, they were pretty inexpensive. All in all, I would order from them again and try some more of the chinese dishes, mainly because of the convenience of GrubHub ordering. Otherwise, I would definitely stick with my local favorites.

a close place to where I live and a place I frequent for american-chinese food You get complimentary hot tea and chips/dip as you sit down, and the servers have always been courteous. the servings are also a big helpful portion and I manage twp meals with one entree and an extra order of rice.. Taste wise - nothing will melt your taste buds, but that doesn't mean the food isn't well prepared or flavorful. If the dishes didn't taste nice - I wouldn't have become a frequent customer.

Good for takeout. Can get both Chinese and sushi. Eat in is TERRIBLE!!!! Young kids that work there are miserable and should not be working in food service. Bad attitude all around and it's not the 1st time. Was there a few months back with identical service. Also didn't think the food was that great as well. Very disappointed!!! Will not go back and would highly recommend not going.

Good food, not too bad prices, but the attitude from the person at the front was just ridiculous. If you want to serve people, you really do have to have a polite attitude, whether you're having a good day or not. Reading other reviews also tells me I'm not the first (or probably last) person to mention this.

Reading reviews for this joint made me a little apprehensive about trying it out, but I'm on this 'try new things in my hood' kick. So I found a coupon from the clipper, hoping that if nothing else I would get a cheap meal, and ordered some takeout for a handsome fella and myself. My food was ready in the quoted time, and the lady at the counter was very nice and accommodating when I asked for something extra on arrival. We each started off with a basic sushi roll. Spicy tuna (5) for him, and a spicy salmon roll (5) for me. I requested avocado, and didn't notice any special upcharge which was nice. Both rolls were decent. A very small step above grocery store sushi, but not nearly as good as any decent sushi joint. The fish wasn't bad at all, but the rice seemed a little old and not very fresh at all. For the price, it wasn't bad at all. We also kept it simple with a small order of shrimp/broccoli (5.75) and chicken/broccoli (5.25). Both were pretty good, about good as any other takeout version I've had. My only complaint was that it's about 75 cents or a dollar more than my go-to Chinese, called Dragon & Phoenix. I find their food a little bit better, and a little bit cheaper. I almost forgot, my actual only complain is that when I opened my container of chicken, there was a nice, dark hair right on top. Blurgh. It was pretty gross. Some people might take off a star. But you know.. people have hair, and these things happen. I didn't take off a star because everyone's allowed one mistake, and I bet if I had dined in the food would have been remade and they would have been apologetic about it. So, my fault for not saying anything to them.

In reality, I'd give this a 2.5. First up: Delivery. I ordered online. 45 minutes later, I still didn't have my dinner. After close to an hour, the delivery driver called me because he couldn't find the door to my apartment (no other delivery person has had this problem). Fair enough, but it was still almost an hour later. I told him where the door was and he hung up. 10 minutes later, he was still nowhere to be found. Another 5 minutes after that and he called back and said he couldn't find my apartment (again, no other delivery person has had this problem). He'd gone into a different building. Finally he just asked me to come outside and get my food. Second: Food. Now, mind you, I have no idea how long my food was sitting since I didn't actually get it until well over an hour after I ordered. It was hot, though. But as someone else mentioned, very greasy. You expect that with Chinese takeout, I suppose, but this seemed extra greasy. And everything in the bag was covered in a thin layer of grease. The dumplings were just okay to me. They tasted exactly like the frozen ones I've bought at the grocery store. Lo mein was pretty standard. But then there was the honey walnut chicken, which is the reason I'd decided to order Win Wah in the first place. I love walnut chicken, but have trouble finding places where it's a.) served and b.) done well. Fortunately, Win Wah does honey walnut chicken well. The sauce was the perfect consistency (and reheated well the next day when I mixed it up with the other leftovers). That alone might get me to go back, but I'll probably do pickup next time.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
