Had a really wonderful dinner here with my husband. Gorgeous place, great atmosphere. Our waitress was incredibly sweet but we could tell she was new -- might not have had the menu down pat but she made us feel welcome and special. The food was perfect. Big southern flavors, prefect portions, lots of variety, sophisticated but not fussy.

Food is creative and delicious southern style grub. Full bar and decent tab beer selection. I have been here several times and always enjoy it. Get the fried pickles!

We went and ordered the Sunday night family fried chicken meal for 4 people. The collards and mac-n-cheese were really good. However, the fried chicken was average; you can get as good fried chicken from Acme (when you get it just freshly made). What I found to be a bit odd was the panko-like coating on the fried chicken which is not definitely not authentically southern. My in-laws commented repeatedly on the poor service. Our server never brought us the iced tea we requested; he also was a bit odd and aloof. He never asked us how the food tasted (but the manager did come over to inquire). We probably would go there again as we live close by; however, when we got the bill he had added on 20% tip (which our server definitely did not earn). To add insult to injury, he added the tip to the meal cost including the tax. While it was only a $1.20 extra, it was poor judgment especially he delivered average service.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I was here for an office party of about 50 people. Maybe the place works as a bar or restaurant, but it just sucked as a party place. Salmon was dry, boneless short ribs weren't bad, but they were swimming on this glop that was masquerading as gravy. About the only things worth eating were fried pickles & mac&cheese.

We went back and just as expected, the food was amazing and the service was phenomenal! Everyone was so friendly and the place has totally come together. We're glad to have it in the neighborhood and look forward to coming back again.

I've been to Southern Cross for both brunch and dinner. Dinner was very good, love the fried pickles (little greasy, but to be expected with anything deep fried), fried oysters were well seasoned and creamy, fried chicken was very good, etc. Also a good beer list. Brunch, however, was very disappointing. Maybe my expectations were too high after how much I enjoyed dinner, but the descriptions on the menu were much more appetizing than the meals themselves. Gravy was way too meaty and not creamy enough, fried chicken sandwich wasn't cohesive (it was like all ingredients were just tossed on rough white bread with no effort to tie them together), omelette was very flat and dense, etc. In summary, good spot for dinner, but do yourself a favor and skip the brunch.

I ate at this restaurant for the first time last Friday night with my boyfriend. I have been to the sister restaurants Stella and Gypsy (both very good) so I decided to give this one a try. We went around 6:30 without a reservation and were seated right away. I noticed it got busier as the night went on and by the time we left at 8:00 there were no tables available. We chose to sit upstairs as we were told they would have live music later in the evening. I enjoyed the atmosphere of this restaurant. It had a modern but somewhat southern charm to it. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The beer list is extensive and reasonable. I had a peach beer which is hard to find in this area. The mixed drinks are a little expensive for the suburbs (10.00 for a very small glass of whiskey) so just watch what you order if you are on a budget. The menu had a lot to offer from sandwiches & salads to entrees. Even if you aren't a big fan of southern food, you could find something on the menu to eat. We got the salad that was on special (fig salad with prosciutto, tomatoes, spinach and feta). It was delicious and more than enough to share with someone for a starter. My boyfriend has the ahi tuna w/ crab risotto that was on special and I had the short rib grilled cheese. Both dishes were more than enough to fill us up and delicious. In fact, we didn't even get through all the tuna and french fries. The only thing I found strange was the oyster crackers with horseradish that was on the table. I don't know if they change this out with every new group that sits down, but I would hope so. I think some good corn bread would be much better to start with, but I would definitely eat dinner here again.

Love this place! Atmosphere is warm and inviting, and I love the decor. It's got a great casual elegance just like the owners other restaurants Stella Blu and Gypsy. We have been here a few times and the food and service are great!

My boyfriend and I were very eager to try Southern Cross, so we stopped by for dinner this weekend. We started off with the fried pickles which were delightful. Even though they are fried, they had a lighter batter to them, much like a tempura, and the pickles tasted very fresh. I had the halibut special which was over lobster risotto and my boyfriend had short ribs. We both loved our meals. The meals came with large pieces of cornbread. The only downfall was that we should have gotten one cornbread and one biscuit, just to try both out. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. The owner came over to ask how the meal was and was also very friendly. We look forward to eating there again!

My mother, father and I went to southern cross on Thursday night. We ate downstairs and our waitress was very nice and efficient. my mom and i shared the short ribs and fried chicken dishes. we loved both. the short ribs were perfectly cooked and tasty. we loved the decor. My dad had the catfish and he raved about it. after dinner we went upstairs to see what it looked like. right away, danny the bartender came right up to us and Introduced himself...very friendly. Will definitely be back and hang out on the second floor to listen to the music.

We're relatively new to the Philadelphia area and live near the Conshohocken center of restaurants. We decided to try something new and went to what we thought was "8 East," but discovered is now Southern Cross (no big deal to us, since we didn't know what 8 East was anyway!). It was new at the time, and the sign hasn't changed yet, so it was a bit quiet overall--two large parties after us made it more lively. The bar is nice and large, the staff was welcoming and quick, and the decor was sweetly decorated to the theme, like going to a Southern grandma's classy dining room. The food was delicious--I highly recommend the shrimp and (cheddar) grits (normally served with goat cheese, which we do not like), but everything we've had there has been delectable! The upstairs is well decorated, has its own bar, and plenty of space. We've already gone back twice for drinks and for dinner. We hope this place continues to be the cozy Southern kitchen it has achieved and stays for awhile! We learned its owned by the same folks who do Stella Blu, down the road, which we also love! Be forewarned, it's a little bit pricey for a casual diner. Go here for an easygoing, but nice dinner or after work happy hour.

Third week in a row that we have stopped in for brunch. Awesome bloody marys. Delicious sausage and gravy. Service was a little slow this past Sunday, but the live music kept our group happy while we waited for our food.

I came here with a big group for dinner last night and had a great time and a great meal. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because my boyfriend wasn't as wild about his meal. I got the short ribs, which were extremely tender and served with deliciously appropriate sides of cheddar grits and roasted brussel sprouts. He got the fried chicken, and was disappointed to find that they literally fried half a chicken. Why not break up the pieces to get more "fry" on it, since I think most people would agree that the best part of the fried chicken is the fried part. Also, it seemed like they were trying a little too hard with all the spices in the breading, the rosemary was a bit too strong and a not a favor you'd expect in the traditional fried chicken. He also got a side of mac n cheese, which I thought was good, but there was goat cheese in it that he did not like (again, almost seemed like they were trying too hard with the flavors). The service was good, the prices were fair, and they have a great beer selection. Be aware that they do not take reservations though, no matter how large the party. We had to wait about 30 mins on a Sat. night for a table of 9, which was less than we expected, and they have a nice bar area to wait in. Overall a good experience, I'd definitely recommend it!

I have been here a number of times with very good experiences. Maybe today the owner was out or the b squad was in the rotation. Party of two for a late lunch. Arrived 1ish. We're seated quickly to a crowded dining room. Table lacked any napkins, utensils etc. just salt and pepper. Obviously they were just not done cleaning up. Hostess gave us menus and we sat. Over ten minutes until we were approach for our drink orders. The waitress seemed frazzled or high. Anyway she took our order and disappeared. It took an eternity to get our lunch. Delivered by Someone other than our waitress. We had to ask for utensils and napkins. We were ignored for the duration of our meal. We sat and sat and sat and finally had to ask for the check. I asked the guy that delivered the food. It was finally delivered by another person. So in all we felt with four people that seemed to hate their jobs. Food was ok. The wait and the service kind of ruined it. So long.

Stopped in for early dinner. Everything was very good- particularly liked the cornbread with maple butter. Did not save room for dessert and wished I had. Only disappointing thing was the lack of side substitutions and the fact they don't have sweet tea. Overall great.

When you see the Southern Cross for the first time, you understand now why you came this way. Legitimately the best southern food, outside of the south, I've ever had.

If this review was solely based on food, I'd probably give it four stars. My issue was the service here. The waitress that served us seemed judgmental since she introduced herself to us. When the food came to the table, we realized that the portion size was smaller than we anticipated. I called for another entree but changed my mind. On telling the staff about our decision, they complied but we had a more sullen faced waitress at our table. One of the most important things about being at the restaurant is the experience in itself. I loved the food and thought it would be a place I'd like to take my friends at some point. But I couldn't quite stomach the way I felt in here. Update- A waitress from the establishment wrote to me that she felt terribly about what we'd experienced. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the lady who was our server that night. Maybe we will revisit this spot or maybe we won't but we do appreciate Sarah reaching out.

We went here last night for dinner...boy they weren't kidding when they say it's southern comfort food. We split fried pickles and an order of cornbread to start which was so delicious! For dinner I got the chicken biscuit sliders. Good. Lord. This is heaven on a plate. So southern, unhealthy and tasty. Highly recommend. Besides the food, we really liked this place because of the awesome waitstaff, the decor and the live music upstairs.
Good menu selection. I had a grilled short rib and cheese sandwich. Very tasty. My husband had the Cobb salad which he enjoyed. We both had tomato soup to start and that was also good. This restaurant is good for large groups. Two levels with a bar and table seating on each. We ate upstairs and it was very noisy and loud. We didn't mind but it was hard for two people to have a quiet conversation. Will definitely go back.

I will definitely return, but only when my belly is prepared for some greasy heaviness! Probably a great lunch place for that Friday night hangover. I went here because of a recommendation from a friend, and a possible place that a bridal shower might be held because apparently they have a large room upstairs to accommodate parties. I thought the interior was decorated quite nicely, and the bar on the other side looks really fun, so I need to go back to give that side a whirl. Food I had AND would recommend: -Short rib grilled cheese -Fried chicken sandwich -Fried pickles What I would not recommend is doing that combination together. Find a lighter appetizer if you are going to have one of those sandwiches or vice versa. The prices were a little high for this type of food, but the dishes were plentiful. I got WAY more fried pickles than expected, and I don't like to waste food so I kept eating. Everything is very, very buttery/greasy so dieters BEWARE, but it does not diminish any relative flavors. Each sandwich had its own 'greasy' flavor and distinctive breading. I think I would like to have an option of side salad instead of fries with these sandwiches just to help the heaviness. Our waitress seemed a little confused that night and kept mixing up our drink orders, but everyone is allowed to have an off night. I know I do sometimes! Overall I would recommend, but I would steer clear of doubling up greasy dishes next time.

This was our first time. We'll definitely be back! Our server Sarah was attentive and friendly. We started with fried pickles. They were addictive. Jim had the fried chicken sandwich. He loved it. I had the short rib grilled cheese sandwich which Sarah recommended. It did not disappoint. Travis had the short rib nachos which he let me try. They were delicious!! The only bad part is we were too full to try the desserts. We sat outside on the deck which was lovely. I'm looking forward to returning for brunch because that menu looks great, too. Thanks again to Sarah for making it a special evening!!

The place was nice and the food tasted good. The only thing different I had to eat that day than my boyfriend was here at this restaurant. About 7 hours later, I'm on the toilet non stop and had to call out of work the morning after, and the boyfriend is fine.

Been here a few times for lunch and happy hour. Always good food just a little pricier than I would prefer but still enjoy it. Had brunch a few weekends ago and must say this is now my new favorite brunch spot in Conshy. Food was great and you can make it endless mimosas for a little bit more. All in all great place any time of day!
Really really good food, possibly even better warmed up the next day! But everything we had was deep friend or dripping with butter. I get that butter is great and I love butter and sugar and salty foods probably more than the rest of you, but there has to be a contrast. Buttery doesn't go with buttery, that's why beer and pizza go so well together. They aren't grease and grease. The entrees avg $23 are a touch pricy for a non-special occasion night out. Not to mention that a few of these dishes have origins as poor folk food. Just like expensive rice at fancy Asian restaurants. I don't do that. Last complaint, I promise. My girlfriend ordered a sweet tea and I said "I'll have the same." But when they came she had a sweet tea and mine was plain unsweetened ice tea. She offered to trade with me because she sometimes prefers unsweetened tea. But tonight nobody wanted ice tea, we wanted sweet tea because it's southern and that's what we ordered. It was a long long while until the server came back. When I asked to have her unsweetened tea changed to sweet tea the server brought out another unsweetened tea in a different glass. Confused we just dropped it because at that point dinner was almost over. The Short Rib Grilled Cheese is probably the best thing on the menu because I can't imagine anything better than that little slice of heaven! We also had the fried pickles whose chaos was enjoyable! Everything was obviously homemade. When we sat down there was horseradish on the table. I wonder what that was supposed to be for? Anyone know? Were we supposed to get bread? Also, Christmas decorations. They were there too. It's May. haha Overall, I really did enjoy Southern Cross and as we were leaving we poked our heads around to see a really cool bar area, so we'll definitely be back but next time we're not standing for screwed up drink orders!

Southern Cross is aptly named, as the food here is solid Southern cuisine but is just flippin' ghastly unhealthy, leading to your untimely demise by myocardial infarction, marked by a lonely stone cross in some neglected cemetary. I'll skip the transition into a Poe short story, but just let me say that the food might be worth the statistical shortening of your life. I spent four great years in Nashville and experienced the real McCoy, and Southern Cross delivers. Really, there is nothing more harmful for your body than biscuits and gravy (the gravy is the grease from the fried sausage mixed with flour) but it is so good. You are better off eating spent nuclear fuel rods. The fried chicken was delicious, and the cornbread outstanding. I applaud the proprietors for trying something new and different, and they pull it off. The ambiance is fun and they have a great bar scene although I just did Sunday brunch. After gorging myself on all of this good 'ol boy food, I realized that I'll need to jog to Milwaukee and back to burn it off.

Came here for brunch for the first time on a Sunday. We had reservations but the place was pretty empty for 11am. We chose to sit outside on the new deck. We took advantage of the all-inclusive $12 bottomless mimosa/Bloody Mary special & I had the Crabby Benny. The crabby Benny was a typical eggs Benedict with a southern twist; a biscuit topped with lump crab meat, poached egg & hollandaise sauce & a side of asparagus. It was delicious but I would have like a little more sauce on top. (If you're looking for a great crab eggs Benedict in conshy go to the Conshy Cafe!) Overall, food was good, atmosphere is adorable & prices were average. I'd definitely go back.

Southern Cross Kitchen is such a fun and fabulous restaurant. We threw an impromptu Birthday gathering including approx. 20 people. I called to request an area where we could gather for Happy Hour and Kim, the owner, said we should not have a problem in the bar area. When we arrived there was an area at the end of the bar and an alcove that had been reserved for us. I was thrilled. The Bartenders Mike and John were great the whole time that we were there. John makes a "Killer" Margarita FYI... The Appetizers that we ordered were perfect and they even accommodated me with a few vegetarian Apps. for a couple of our guests. My favorites: Catfish Fingers, scallops wrapped in bacon, short rib flatbread, crab cake entree After Happy Hour a few of our guests stayed with us for dinner. All of our meals were perfect. It was a wonderful evening on every level. Kim and Marianne; the owners are fabulous. You will not be disappointed with Southern Cross Kitchen or Stella Blu, Gypsy Saloon and Gypsy Blu....the other restaurants owned by Kim and Marianne. We can't wait to go back.

Came in shortly after opening on a Saturday afternoon. Went to the bar. Not crowded. Ten minutes go by, no one has even said, "Just give me a second." If you're busy, tell me. I get it. But to pretend I don't exist? Pass.I don't think I am a special snowflake, but I do think it's okay for you to toss out a quick "Hey," when you have less than five customers.

These ladies have nice restaurants with food to match. Some items are hit or miss, but mostly always tasty. Went here with some friends the other night and ended up ordering a ton of apps and a few entrees to share which worked out well. Definitely reminded me of a Southern restaurant. Check out their other places in Conshy which are yummy. I still need to check out the new spot in Ambler as well.

Our Conshohocken resident friends took us here for brunch this past Sunday, and I was immediately impressed by the decor and southern charm this place exudes as I walked in. The hostess accommodated our party of 6 even though it was getting busy and we didn't have a reservation. Our waitress was also extremely friendly and offered A+ service. However, now onto the not-so-good: 1) the live music was too much. Imagine: loud, wailing off-key rendition of Blue Skies with the sound cutting in and out. Needless to say, it was difficult to carry conversation at times because we were either giggling at the performance or couldn't hear each other over the volume. 2) food was mediocre. The OJ was served on ice and tasted like it was from concentrate (I would expect a place known for brunch would serve fresh-squeezed or equivalent). Everyone knows that some salty, fatty food helps cure the common hangover, however I think I may have felt worse after eating my meal. The scrambled eggs were dry, and the biscuit was soaked in butter, especially on the bottom. Everyone in my party agreed that their meals were almost a bit too decadent and rich. Butter does not always equal better!

I'm really disappointed to write this because I was holding out that Southern Cross Kitchen was going to be amazing from what I read online. The inside and outside of the restaurant is adorable. The decorations and colors are perfect. We walked in and saw that all the (empty) tables had a white tablecloth, cloth napkins and looked pretty fancy- weren't expecting that. We were worried that we were too casual but our waiter showed up in an Eagles jersey so that put that worry to rest pretty quickly. Our server was very engaging but we felt that he was incredibly overbearing. He tried to order for us and at one point questioned us when we didn't want to take his beer recommendation. Whoa, buddy. They had a nice amount of beers on tap and some interesting cocktails. We were satisfied with that. The food was incredibly lackluster. The wings were dull, the pork sliders didn't have much taste and had clearly been sitting in oven (see:hot coleslaw), the french fries tasted like frozen ore idas that you were too impatient to cook all the way thru resulting in soggy fry, and my s.o.'s jambalaya had almost no taste. So much for the "red spicy sauce".... While we ate the food because we were very hungry, it was nothing to write home about and quite honestly, I regret taking my s.o. here for his bday dinner. It was a lot of money for crappy food and weird service. I might come back to have drinks at the bar which looked cute but avoid the food!!! There was probably a reason all those tables were empty....

Hard to write this review because I want to like this place. Nice atmosphere and bar along with outside deck. Have visited twice, first time a month or two after they opened and then again this week. The food is just not good. Short rib nachos came out cold and seemed like chunks of beef not pulled. Pulled pork Mac n cheese - pork lacked flavor , no smoked taste. seemed as though it was just slow cooked. Wife had pulled pork sandwich, again bland. Hot sauce was franks. No tabasco on hand. You can't eat southern food with franks (ideal for wings , but not southern). Service was not attentive. Bottom line- would come for drinks, but not hungry.

Great experience! We had lunch, but we also had the option of brunch (separate menu) that had 12.00 bottomless mimosas/bloody marys. We opted for the short rib grilled cheese (excellent) the macaroni and cheese (also excellent, and definitely made in house), and salad (generous and fresh). I'm from DE, but it really wasn't too far, just up the blue route. Well worth the ride, and I will be back to try the shrimp and grits and fried green tomatoes.

I've only gone for brunch and it was amazing- I can't wait to go back! I had the biscuit sandwich and the homemade biscuit was SO good. I was torn between getting that or the Nutella French toast, so I think I need to get that next time! Great atmosphere, we sat on the deck which was really nice. They also have a bunch of brunch cocktails which sounded delicious too. Can't wait to go back!

This was an unexpected find while stuck In traffic one day. We were running late for brunch at another establishment due to traffic, a quick Yelp search led us to the Southern Cross. We had the loaded waffle, and short rib hash. Both were top notch, the waffle was airy not overtly dense; the apple topping is sweet but not overly the apples are cut small and are tender. The hash was very tasty the short rib was tender and nicely seasoned the onions and peppers are bite sized so you can enjoy all of the flavors in one bite. We have since returned for lunch and we had the short rib sliders, fried green tomatoes and the Brussels sprouts. All very tasty. They also have a nice cocktail menu

I have no idea why this place is rated so high. The food can be decent and can also be terrible. It's a gamble. Don't take it. My review is about my experience today and I have to say- I'm bitter. My husband ordered a short rib benny, he received a crab egg thing. When he asked about it the waitress said he absolutely did not order the short rib. We were at a table with a few people, everyone heard his order of the short rib. Are you kidding me?!? Why would she argue, why is this okay? And then to boot I ordered a kids Mac and cheese, picture attached. This was 10 dollars and was tiny!!!! Kids or not, this is a complete rip off. I will say it was yummy but not worth 10 bucks! I will never return. The food is questionable and it's so overpriced.

Good service. Nice quiet, naturally sunlit lunch and a dimly lit atmosphere by night. They seem to have trouble with the concept of, "dressing on the side" but that's a losing battle anywhere. Food is good but I think ever so slightly overpriced. Being the "southern kitchen" and all, not many items on the menu without bacon or pork products- so not a surprise. If you don't eat pork and want some variety I'd skip over this joint. But the perfect spot for an office lunch or an impromptu dinner date! Three stars because my partner in crime and I each drink 5-8 glasses of water with a meal and they didn't think to bring a pitcher.. And the overabundance of pork... But that's my issue :p

So we came to town for a wedding. We had a pre rehearsal brunch at southern cross. Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. The service was as warm as southern hospitality could be! The fried green tomatoes were out of this world. The mac-n- cheese was awesome. The ribs with the nachos were great. I could go on but I would just be giving the same review for everything. A great start to a very special day. Easy 5 stars for Southern Cross Kitchen.

Soooo Hungry ..
Mixed feelings about this place. The drinks were great! The service was great! However, half of the food we ordered was really under seasoned. I had one of the biscuits, it looked incredible! The butter had to compensate for the lack of flavor. I had to add salt to the Mac and cheese due to no seasoning. The catfish was good, but the sauce really saved it. I was really looking forward to this place, but I'm not won over. I will probably try again in the future, maybe they had an off-night.

I went to Southern Cross Kitchen for an early dinner while hungry for some southern cuisine. Initially, we wanted to go somewhere else but they were closed, so we looked on Yelp and ended coming here for dinner. This restaurant is located right off of Fayette Street on 1st Avenue in Conshohocken. Conveniently, right across the street, is a parking lot on top of a parking garage accessible from 1st Ave.. The great part about this parking lot is that is only costs one quarter per hour which is a great deal compared to other metered parking. Inside the restaurant, the decor is very nice with a kind of upscale southern comfort feel to the room. On the left side of the restaurant is a bar while on the right side in a dining area as well as upstairs. The staff are extremely friendly and our waitress was very attentive to our table and we were extremely satisfied with our service here. While here, my girlfriend was unsure what to drink so the waitress recommended a red sangria that my girlfriend thought was very good. I went with a repel old fashion cocktail which was very good but mostly tasted of bourbon until the lower end of the glass. With our cocktails, we enjoyed the small spherical crackers in the jar with the horseradish which was decently strong. Overall, the cocktail menu is very good at providing a nice array of different southern styled cocktails. From the "For Pickin" section, my girlfriend and I decided to order and share the fried pickles, the short rib flatbread, and the pork belly pizza. The fried pickles here are some of the best that I ever had, even compared to the places that I have been in the south. The pickles came out hot and had a great flavor. The short rib flatbread was absolutely amazing. The combination of the braised short rib, mac n' cheese, and truffle oil was amazing. Even the arugula piled on top added to this amazing flatbread. As for the pork belly pizza, I wasn't as satisfied as I was hoping to be with it. The braised pork belly was good if eaten off of the pizza, but on the pizza we could not really taste it. The fried egg is an awesome touch to any pizza but the potatoes were not my favorite addition. Overall, I would highly recommend the fried pickles and heavily recommend the short rib flatbread. In the "For the Hands" section of the menu, we decided to split "The Cross" burger as well as a short ribbed grilled cheese. "The Cross" burger was definitely a different alternative to a typical burger. The combination of the ingredients in this sandwich generate a flavor that I have never experienced in a burger. This is not my favorite burger in the world but my girlfriend enjoyed it very much and I thought it is definitely worth the experience and I would recommend it. As for the short ribbed grill cheese, this sandwich was pretty good. My girlfriend doesn't typically like short rib but here she really enjoyed their products. The only other downside with our meal was that the fries were not that good but that wasn't why we were here. The food here is pretty good and definitely worth tasting if you are looking for some good food. Overall, Southern Cross Kitchen provided a great experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a casual southern style meal experience.

Went for their "buck a shuck" oyster special. Love oysters and have them at every opportunity. These were by far the worst and smallest oysters ever. The oyster came with pieces of shell and the oysters were no larger than a nickel. Seriously...??? The only redeeming factor was the personable bartender.

I went to Southern Cross with a friend a few weeks ago on the recommendation of a coworker and we completely loved it! My first impression walking in was that it would be the perfect place to bring a date because it has a dark and intimate feel. My second impression was made almost thirty seconds later, when the staff (the owner, I believe) greeted me warmly and led me to a table. This friendliness was a theme throughout the night, as our waitress was full of suggestions about drinks and food choices. I ended up having a Sly Fox draft and my friend had a glass of wine, while we started with an order of fried pickles. The pickles were delicious, and the sauce (some sort of dill spread) was very light. I think it could have used a little more dill, but I like things flavored strongly. For dinner, I had a side of the mac and cheese with the brie and pecan salad. Both dishes were very well done-- the mac and cheese in particular was very rich. Definitely order that when you go. My friend had the chicken thighs and she had to bring about half of it home because there was so much food. For dessert, we split a piece of Guinness pie (what can I say, they had me at Guinness), which was again very rich-- and baked in house, from what I understand.

I've had better southern food in Canada. I went and had fried chicken, mashed potatoes, collard greens, and mac and cheese. Everything was overly greasy and kind of bland. On top of that, the cost was more than it was worth. Don't bother.

I am at southern cross probably once a week! My go-to brunch spot in Conshy. They have unlimited mimosas on the weekend and great food. The bar is fun too! Upstairs is fun and sometimes there is a band or musician playing. Great atmosphere and food.

Great Sunday brunch. Quality southern food in the Northeast. I gave it a 4 star because the service wasn't the best- not bad- but needs improvement. The food on the other hand was very good. I got the chicken fried chicken - aka a heart attack on a plate. Fried chicken w gravy and grits and two eggs. It was really good and great hangover food. My complaint I ordered two eggs over easy and one egg was "broken" and over cooked and they still served it. The other egg was perfect. If there wasn't so much food on the plate I would have complained. Everything on the Brunch menu looked great. No1 at my table had many complaints (other than service). Our service wasn't bad it just wasn't good. Waited on water and drinks too long.

Great place in quiet little Conshohocken for some classic southern fare. I am very partial to Jambalaya and they do it well here. My coworkers have expressed similar enthusiasm for their creole dishes and appetizers. For those who enjoy liquid lunches, there are bars on both the entry level and upper deck to kick back and unwind. The service is solid and the drink selection pretty reasonable, I've not been disappointed in my two trips there.

So this was my 3rd time here , first time I went had a pretty subpar experience but it was when they first opened so gave them a little room. This time I was equally disappointed. Service was great at the bar, both bartenders very friendly and welcoming. Food on the other hand was not good. We were told by the waitress we "had to have the fried green tomatoes " they came out not only were they nothing to write home about they weren't even green. Regular old red tomatoes! Fish tacos came out and they were cold, and one of my parties dishes took awhile to get out after ours, and cold. Really disappointing evening. Would come back only for cocktails and would only sit at the bar.

Fantastic service, great atmosphere, and the interior has a great southern home style feel about it. We've been there sevral times, and can highly recommend the Southern Cross burger. Always mean to try something else out, but it taste too good to leave.

My husband and i love this place! They have great food and great drinks! The restaurant itself reminds us of our favorite place on earth: Charleston. I would make a reservation because on Friday or Saturday it could be crowded. Service is pretty good and typically everyone is really friendly. The owner is always around and is pretty good about greeting people and making sure everyone is comfortable. My husband and I had our wedding rehearsal brunch here and they went over and above what they needed to. They made personalized menus, have us free reign of the front room and gave us specialized decor/ flowers. I seriously love Victoria, their event planner. She made my vision happen and guests raved about the food! We returned for our 6 month anniversary and the owner and Victoria remembered us and sent over a special glass of champs and a dessert at the end. Love it!!! What to get: fried pickles for sure

If you're looking for the best brunch in Conshohocken, this is it. You can't go wrong with the Chicken Fried Chicken. The dish comes with large fried chicken breasts, topped with gravy, two eggs any style, cheddar grits and a biscuit. They also have bottomless mimosas and bloody mary's (you can switch between the two with one order of the bottomless drinks) for $11. This restaurant is also a great place to grab a beer, with many quality selections on tap. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go and get some brunch.

So this place only gets 3 stars. The place isn't that big and they have lots of high top tables for two. Very uncomfortable when you have to sit for a long time due to slow service. We started with green fried tomatoes with goat cheese. Unfortunately there was so much cheese, you could not really taste the tomato or barely see it. The BLT with avocado was good but the fries were just warm and finally cold by the time I was half way thru the sandwich. Nice looking place inside, needs work either in the kitchen or the servers or probably both.

I visited Southern Cross on my last trip to Conshy. It was a Friday night around 8, and we had no problem getting in without a reservation. We were shown upstairs and were the only people sitting at a table (though the bar was packed). I ordered the Chicken and Biscuits sliders, which came with a side of herb-seasoned fries. I also got a side of the spicy mac and cheese--the spiciness came from cayenne pepper and jalepenos mixed in with the mac and cheese, which also included tomatoes. The sliders were very good, though I found the chicken to be a bit dry (probably due to its small size), which made the whole slider very dry (as biscuits have a tendency to do anyway). The flavor was very good though and the sliders were topped with thick slices of dill pickles, my favorite. The spicy mac and cheese was good, but a little bland (surprising given the added spices). My companion ordered the fish tacos, which he really enjoyed. They looked delicious. You get three huge tacos and a side of Spanish rice with your dish and he really enjoyed it. The service was a little inattentive. About halfway through our meal, we were informed that we were getting a new server, who did not come back to check on us until about 8 minutes after we were ready to pay. I would come back if I were in Conshohocken, as I enjoy this style of food, but I would not make a special trip. By the time we were leaving--Friday night around 9 pm, a live musical act was performing on the second floor, which was a nice touch. Also ask for the $3 Dirty Elf special!

Only been here once but I had a chance to try their Fried Pickles (my favorite), Short Rib Nachos (yumm) Cross Burger (amaazing), Scallops and Pork Belly (melt in your mouth), Fried Chicken (oh so crispy), and Old Bay Shrimp Boil (good but was a little salty). Definitely want to try more!! The atmosphere is great, but a little dim. Two floors with a bar on each and the decor is very warm and comfy... Like the south!!

I came to Southern Cross Kitchen for one reason, and it seems to be the only thing I'm capable of ordering off the menu: Catfish Tacos. Cooked in spices and piled with avocado, cabbage, and salsa, they are delicious. My boyfriend has his favorite too, the Short Ribbed Grilled Cheese, which are served with thin-cut fries that I tend to steal off his plate. One day we'll try something new off the menu, but for now we're both content. In addition to the food, the decor of this place is adorably boho-chic, and its clear the Conshy Girls who own and operate it take pride in the details - glittered ornaments on the mini-chandeliers, candles in mason jars on the bar, etc - it all feels a bit like something on pinterest. The staff is also exceptionally friendly, making you feel right at home and encouraging you to settle in. The on-tap beer selection is pretty large - I think there's nearly 20, and most are priced around $6. They also make specialty cocktails, including a tequila-sangria, that I regret not having tried yet - add it to the list, I know I'll be back!

I've been to Southern Cross three times now. The first time was great! The second time was still good but not as amazing as the first time. The second time we had questions about the menu and the server said "I've never had that, I don't know," and let our questions go unanswered instead of finding the answer or someone who could help us. Now, fast forward to Sunday night (3rd visit). I ordered the fried chicken. It's a half of a chicken so you get a breast, thigh, leg and wing. It came out VERY fast. My second bite into the breast I noticed it was a little pink. I sliced a little closer to the middle and found out the chicken was raw in the center. The water boy took it a way and a few minutes later my plate returned with two thighs, a leg and a wing (no breast) that were burnt to overcompensate for it maybe being raw. Furthermore the chicken was bland... no seasoning at all. I shared a taste with my date and asked her opinion and she immediately said it needed salt. It did. I didn't complain anymore as I just wanted this experience to be over with I asked for my check, got it and noticed that they built in a 20% gratuity for a table of two! The service wasn't even worthy of a 20% tip and I almost always tip 20%! Fast forward to today and I receive an email from Open Table (where I made my reservation for Sunday) stating that I was a no show. Through all of this experience they said I was no show and I have to dispute their claim to avoid getting banned from Open Table! What's with these people. Three strikes and you're out... I think they earned 5 or 6 strikes in one night! Raw chicken Burnt chicken Bland chicken Automatic 20% gratuity for a table of two Unknowledgeable staff Lying to OpenTable.com about a no-show

I've been here for brunch and dinner and love everything offered on both menus. I've eaten in their small, yet cozy, downstairs restaurant part and in their upstairs bar/restaurant section which is a little more lively with groups of people standing around and live music (we went on a Friday night). Brunch - went here for my birthday with a group of friends and it was the perfect birthday spot. One of the only few places who serves brunch on a Saturday! We had made a reservation for 6 on opentable and showed up on time, 11am. We were seated immediately and the waiter was over within minutes to introduce himself and grab our drink orders. The menu has a lot of brunch options but I would definitely go for the stuffed French toast - too die for! It's like dessert for breakfast. Also, do the upgrade for bottomless mimosas as they're well worth it. Waiter was super attentive and even helped my friends surprise me with birthday cupcakes after our meal! Dinner - their dinner menu is little, however everything on it sounds and looks delicious - if it were bigger you'd need even more time to decide. My recommendation? Short rib grilled cheese all the way. Start off with the cheesesteak eggrolls. Also, on the table, as starters, are oyster crackers in mason jars. Such a cute and simple idea and they're a good way to help hold you over until your dinner is brought out. Again, waiter was extremely attentive and accommodating. Definitely will be coming back.
Expected to have good Southern food and we did! Our waiter seemed preoccupied and had to ask several times to get it right. The disappointment was in the wine listings... We were handed a small bar list ( with Happy Hour" specials on drinks . The issue was the wine offerings were not spelled out as Happy Hour items. So instead of $ 5.00 a glass our bill reflected $8.00 a glass! Had we known in advance, we would have ordered a bottle. We were not pleased with the explanation which was shown to us on a Larger drink menu. We are not cheap but felt that it was a bait and switch with the menu change! Not sure if anyone else has had this experience.. So there is your warning. Jo Anne W .

Went for lunch. Lunch menu was perfect and decently priced. Finally had a desert. All the cakes and pies are homemade in house. We had the pecan pie, it was one of the best I've had.

I was here for dinner two Fridays ago. My table of two made reservations on open table and we were seated right away. The decor downstairs was really cute, I especially enjoyed the lighting and the "wall quotes". My table was wobbly... I detest wobbly tables. Our server was nice enough, she seemed to be there to "get the job done". We had a crab dip appetizer from the specials menu that was absolutely fantastic! Additionally we tried the fried pickles, which were also good (not that you can actually mess them up). For dinner we split Mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts and two buttermilk biscuits. The Mac and cheese was one of the best I ever had, they totally nailed that southern home style heartiness. Bristles sprouts were okay, I prefer mine on the well done (read- charred) side, but they weren't as bad as some that I've had. Finally, the biscuits were terrible- they tasted day-old dry and were not served with any condiment (butter?). Overall, not bad for a restaurant in Conshohocken and it's come a long way since being 8 east. I would definitely go back.

My friends and I came to this place when looking for lunch in the area. I was happy to have found it. The food was very good and the waitress was very pleasant. We found that the owners have 3 restaurants and we plan to visit the other 2 very soon.

We went here shortly after they opened and really enjoyed the place, drinks were great, food was great, good portions, no complaints. Fast forward to our second visit and I was disappointed to see things have changed. The bad: First problem we asked to substitute the collard greens that come with the fried chicken for another veggie (which they had no problem with us doing the first time we went and lets face it not many people actually like collard greens) and our waitress tells us they don't allow substitutions anymore. I asked why and basically it came down to it was too confusing for the kitchen to handle changing orders. So instead we got a meal that part of it no one ate and it just went to waste. Having worked in food service I somewhat understand you don't want people going crazy making custom orders but at least allow a choice of 2-3 veggies with dinner. It being "too hard" for the staff to handle is a poor excuse I'd be looking for another job had I told my boss that. The portions have also gotten smaller but the prices are the same. The good: No issues with the service or food same quality as before very good. The drinks are still excellent too its not some novice bartender using a mix out of a bottle, all are made from scratch a little pricey yes but about the same you would pay downtown. Everyone has a bad day maybe it was that I don't know, I'll give it one more chance though.

Went for a Saturday brunch and enjoyed bottomless mimosas and some starter biscuits and cornbread. Ordered huevos rancheros, veggie omelette and the burger. Overall the food and environment is very good. One minor complaint was our fries felt slightly cold. Everything else was unique we'll prepared and tasty. What bothered me about southern cross was when we asked to substitute the side salad that came with the veggie omelette for breakfast potatoes the waitress was not sure if that could be done. It didn't seem like a huge deal as there are breakfast potatoes with other items on the menu. She left and returned to tell us the potatoes would be a $40 up charge. Now at first we thought she said $4 which seemed ok. Needless to say we did not get the potatoes and the whole incident left a bad taste in our mouth. It seemed that someone in the kitchen didn't want to make the switch. We have been for dinner and the food and service has always been pretty good. It may be a while before I forgot the whole thing ever happened and come back to enjoy the food. That being said the owners do have a few other restaurants in the Conshohocken area so I am sure I will be back to one of them soon.

I live in the area and had not been, so one day on a whim my boyfriend and I stopped in for a late lunch. We were so happy we did! The food is great and the drinks are dangerously delicious. We got fried pickles to share, I got the pulled pork, and my boyfriend got the chicken fried chicken. There wasn't anything left of the plate when we were done! The atmosphere is laid back but the decor is nice enough for a date night. I always tell my friends that they should stop by.

Been to Southern Cross numerous times. I can say I've never been dissatisfied with either my meal or drink or even the service. The jambalaya is probably my favorite ( where else can I get this around here)?. The decor has changed a little upstairs ; more comfortable, relaxed area for meeting friends or business associates. Props to Kim for being so hand on, Nick d.

Love this place. Great decor and atmosphere with a super friendly staff. Huge beer selections that rotates regularly and good happy hour deals. Always lively but not too crowded. Food is southern style with homemade desserts which are delicious.

Best brunch in the area! Bottomless mimosas, screwdrivers and/or bloody mary's for $12 & they definitely don't skimp out on the refills. The atmosphere is awesome. I will say that the service is always hit or miss, though.

I really like this place. If I want a good meal in conshy I go here. The prices are worth the quality. Everytime I get a special it is very good. The paella is my fav. I also love the wings. Never had desert but it looks good. It is charming. I love the decor. They also have live music Thursday nights. I know they have it other nights but Thursday is usually the best. I am dying to try brunch there. But my number one rec is the burger. Awesome with all the fixins.

I've been here several times, and hadn't made a decision one way or another about it. Last night my friend was celebrating her birthday there. She made a reservation over a month in advance for 20 people for dinner. My advice to this restaurant is, if you cannot accommodate large parties, do not accept them. Though the waiter was friendly, he didn't have any help, therefore we waited forever for everything. Example: my friend waited over 45 minutes for her beer. We had to leave our table and walk up to the bar to get served. Everyone ordered food. Everyone's meals arrived before my appetizer did. I asked about my appetizer (this was 45 min after I ordered it) and he tells me they are out. Then the cherry on top is my friend saw another waitress flick off our table and mouth "f that table". Ridiculous. To recap, I was there for 2.5 hours, got 1 beer from the waiter, 2 myself from the bar and no food. Awlful.

The food is pretty good, but the execution wasn't great. I went here for brunch on a Sunday. The space is very nicely decorated. A very industrial feel. The menu is intriguing with (obviously) a lot of southern food (grits, fried chicken, etc). I ordered the "chicken fried chicken," fried chicken with eggs, grits and gravy (healthy it is not). Unfortunately I got fried chicken with fries, a biscuit and gravy. Pretty good, but not what the menu stated or what I was expecting. I probably should have said something, but didn't. Mostly because it took so long to get the food that I just wanted to eat. The food was good, but everything came out slow, first the app, then the meals. It's the kind of place that can easily go from 3 stars to 4 or even 5 with a few tweaks. It could become THE go to brunch spot in Conshohocken, but needs some work. Let's hope it gets there.

Not the most fantastic Southern meal I've had, but pretty good. I came here with a group of 8 for some dinner on a Friday night. Nice atmosphere and nice location in Conshohocken. Service was a bit weird...my husband asked the server at one point about what came with a certain entree, and he said, "I don't know...you're the one with the menu" and my husband said, "You're the one who works here." Uhhh what? I think the server felt bad afterward though and became overly attentive for the rest of the meal. Strange... We ordered some mac and cheese for the table, and thank goodness because it was my favorite part of the meal. Hot and comforting! Loved it. My sister-in-law and I both ordered catfish...grilled for me and cornmeal-crusted for her so that we could try both. Mine was a bit too salty and hers a bit bland, unfortunately. The collard greens were also a bit salty, but I did enjoy all of my potatoes. I sampled my husband's short ribs, and those were pretty good. I also heard members of our party at the other end of the table raving about pork chops and grilled cheese sandwiches, so I assume those were good as well! Fun place and fun dinner options, though next time I would choose a different meal. Overall good experience and great for groups.

I was just here yesterday evening for dinner with my husband. I really love the ambiance here it has this classy, cool laidback vibe. They have home like blue colored walls, that have a calming effect. Their blue mason jars with tea light candles on each table are a nice touch. Dim lighting & nice looking light fixtures. I enjoyed taking in the ambiance. There menu has lots of tasty options & there drinks sound yummy. The prices are reasonable for the food. Southern Cross has potential to be stellar. However, there were a few things I found to be particularly concerning. I found them to be a bit overly pushy with a few things. If a customer is dining in a restaurant establishment they do not want to be forced to order a drink. I either want a drink or I do not. I do not need a server to keep asking me if I am sure whether I want one. No means no. What if I was a recovering alcoholic or a diabetic? Maybe, I am on medication and I can't drink ?! Or crazy thought here, maybe I have to drive home and refuse to drink and drive. This irked me. The male servers I encountered were just a bit weird. I found them to be friendly but there manner was a little bit much. My husband ordered the burger from here and they asked us to vote for them as Philly's Best Burger. They reiterated the website to us several times. I think we got it the first time. No need to reiterate. The server also took my husbands phone when he saw my husband was looking up the Philly's Best Burger website and proceeded to vote for him. The server also asked if I was looking it up on my phone. I said "Umm yea..." Then quickly I put my phone away. Honestly, I was on Yelp looking at the reviews to see if anyone else has had weird encounters at Southern Cross. Another thing Southern Cross, when you bring a check to a dining patron and you have already run there credit/debit card you do not stand over them, and proceed to watch them as they leave the TIP Amount ?! Who does that? Weird.... However, on a more positive note there food was great. I really enjoyed my Fried Goat Cheese Salad. I do plan on returning and maybe trying a drink or two. There dessert options look delicious & incredibly tempting. I plan on trying that as well. I really want to like you Southern Cross. Don't make it so hard. Just don't be so overly weird & pushy.

Best for everything! Great bar for a night scene and enough room upstairs if you like events/larger bar groups. Brunch is fantastic! Southern sandwich is my favorite brunch on the main line. All the dinner menu items are unforgettable plays on comfort foods: -short rib grilled cheese -salmon -short rib sliders -mac and cheese -Pecan pie I try to eat here at least once a week. Keep this place in business!

So I decided to have my birthday dinner here last night and I made a reservation almost a month in advance thinking they could accommodate me and twenty friends. But I guess I was wrong because we ended up sitting at two tables and I really wasn't happy about that. I feel if you're going to tell someone not once but twice that they would be able to take a party that size then you should do so. If you are unable to accommodate them to one table then you should let the person know right off the bat. I felt the guy that waited on us was really sweet and nice, but I felt as though he was new to the serving world and shouldn't have been waiting on a party that size alone. The fact that the staff just sat back and watched as this guy drowned trying to take care of my table was ridiculous. Then my one friend saw as the one of the staff members gestured the middle finger to my table and said F that table was really sad. I really don't recommend going here with a party of more than four people because you may end up with service like ours. After all that I was told by one of my friends that they sat the guy down and fired him for something they could have prevented. It wasn't completely the guys fault so I don't get why they would fire him. Maybe they need to think about what they do before they do it. This place was very unprofessional and unorganized. Thank god my friends were there to keep me happy and entertain me.
Upscale southern restaurant in downtown Conshohocken. Drinks are great, pretty good beer selection. And lots of good southern/fusion food. Recommend the short ribs, fried chicken, and catfish tacos. Brunch is always pretty good too: Southern burger, Breakfast Quesadilla, and Huevos Rancheros. Upstairs has a second bar and a stage for live music.

This place is amazing for brunch but pretty bland for dinner. When I had brunch here with a group of friends everyone loved their meal but when I came here for dinner no one was impressed. The service was good both times and we never had to wait for a table.

In Conshohocken, it doesn't get much better than this! The staff are friendly and accommodating, and the food never disappoints. With its unmatched (at least in the Conshy area) drink list, Southern Cross has become a really fun place to hang out and have drinks any night of the week. I highly suggest the fried pickles, chicken fried chicken, and caprese salad (not something you'd normally think to order at a Southern restaurant, but it's surprisingly much better than the ones served at most restaurants in the area). Great atmosphere! Every friend and family member originally from the south who comes here absolutely loves it, so you know it's good.

Excellent unique take on good food! You will not come away hungry! They need however to concentrate a little more on cleanliness--place could use a better cleaning. Our male host?/server? at lunch had dirty fingernails.

I haven't written a bad review in a long time but feel this one is well-deserved. Since my last review we have been there a few times and everything has been A-ok but after the last time I don't think I will be going back for a long time. My husband, friend and I were seated at a four top in the downstairs portion of the restaurant when my friend heard a dripping noise and lo and behold water from the upstairs was dripping onto her bag. Apparently the upstairs sink that when filled up too quickly it drips down onto the first floor and looking up at the wet spots on the ceiling, that was pretty obvious. In a short time it went from a drip to the floor being soaked. We're pretty easy going and had no problems switching tables because well...shit happens, right? Here's the kicker, we had to ask to switch tables because it wasn't offered to us and when we did none of the staff decided not to help us move the rest of our food, offer us fresh drinks without bar drips and we had to ask to fill up the water glasses at our new table. I'm not one to complain because I worked in the service industry for years and know how difficult it can be but the fact that the manager didn't even come over to apologize is unacceptable. That's guest service 101, so for our after dinner drinks we took our business elsewhere and will continue to in the future. The food was good but it was completely overshadowed by the horrendous service.

Just going to say something about the food. I've grown up in Georgia and I've had southern food and if there's a place up here that has it I'm going to see how good it actually is. SCK has yet to disappoint me as far as good goes. I've had a shrimp seafood kind of stew and the shrimp were huge! I've also had their catfish tacos and I really like them, and after dinner you have to try the warm pecan pie which is pretty awesome. Also I know a lot of you yanks up here aren't into the "grits" but I tell you this place make awesome grits in all different types. My favorite the jalapeño grits with cheese.

So I will preface that I'm a Texan, so a little pickier about "southern comfort" food. Service has been excellent, really good atmosphere. Decor is nice, bar upstairs and down. I had the shrimp cocktail which is 3 jumbo shrimp on 3 pieces of toasted bread, with picked peppers and jalapeño sauces. Actually pretty damn good. I ordered the fried chicken with greens and mashed taters. Ate every last piece of greens. Took one bite of taters and left the rest. Chicken was not at all what we southerners would call fried, but it was tasty, although a little on the dry side. Best move I made was ordering the side of Mac n cheese which was done of the best I've ever had.

A Conshy favorite for drinks and food. A ton of IPAs on draft and many liquor specials. The food is great. Highly suggest the fried pickles and Southern Cobb salad! I can't get away from both of these dishes. Amazing!! Be sure to make a reservation when dining. I prefer the upstairs room.

Being from the South my wife and I looked forward to some good Southern fried chicken while we were visiting here. Sorry to report but we were severely disappointed. It was not even close to anything we (or our parents/grandparents) would serve. It was very dry and I swear it had a "baked" taste to it. Could have been under the lamps for a while - - not sure. Definitely not freshly fried. That being said, the fried pickles and the key lime pie were great, the mashed potatoes were good and the brussel sprouts could use a little work. The decor is pretty cool and the staff friendly. I give it 2.5 stars.

Another successful restaurant venture from the people who brought you Stella Blu and Gypsy. I've been a number of times, primarily for happy hour. They have great specials. I only wish there was a wine special. $2 domestics and some yummy sangria specials. They also have small plates on special. I've tried every single one and you cant go wrong with any selection. The fried pickles and pork sliders are my favorite. I love the two bars. The service downstairs can be a little slow, but overalll a great place.

Can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Brussels sprouts, catfish tacos, and vegetable omelets are some of my favorite items. Breakfast is usually so good I come back the same day for dinner! Be sure to ask for Virginia or Whitney!

I really hate reviewing my favorite happy hour spots. I really don't want to fight for a seat at the bar at my favorite place. But .. I also don't want to stop getting invites to Yelp events because I didn't write enough reviews! :) Southern Cross has a really great happy hour. Even better, they have two bars so it's much easier to find a seat! They have lots of drink specials; I highly recommend the regular red sangria. It was super delicious. They also have a cool sounding tequila raspberry version that I knew I wouldn't like. But maybe you would? Southern Cross also has a great beer list, and there's definitely something for everyone on it. There is also a large bar bites menu for happy hour. Our large group had been drinking for a while and decided it was a good idea to order one of everything. I mean everything. And actually everything that I sampled was delicious. The short rib grilled cheese was a total standout for me. Good flavor, and nice unctious meat and cheesy flavor. The wings had great flavor as well. The fried pickles were good, but I was expecting SO much from them because I'd never had fried pickles before. I was hoping for them to knock my socks off, but instead they were just good. So yes, I definitely recommend this place for happy hour. But please, save me a seat when you go?

The food was ehhh. The service sucks (slow, slower, slowest, I will get that for you right away - never saw it, I will take that of the bill for you - they forgot). For a southern restaurant you would think they would have jellies and jams for their biscuits but no, only rock hard cold butter. No chance of me going back.

Very unpleasant experience overall. Food was mediocre at best. Shrimp 'n Grits - The grits was a tasteless, soupy chowder. I'm no southerner, but I've had good grits as well as creative "gourmet" grits before; this was neither. Did not taste any goat cheese as mentioned in the menu. "Jumbo shrimps" were the size of quarters. Crabby Benny without crabmeat - Despite reiteration, this was first brought out with crabmeat. Sent back and waited for an additional 10 minutes. The yolk from one of the poached eggs had fallen off of the Benny when server arrived with the second plate. Fried Green Tomatoes (served in place of Canadian bacon) was uncooked and distastefully hard. Buttermilk biscuits (served in place of english muffin) was also undercooked, doughy, and tasteless. Accompanying asparaguses were tough, fibrous, and literally inedible. Bellini - Despite the meal, the Bellini was one of the best we've ever had anywhere. The server should've given us a free drink given our extra wait time, but he didn't. Will likely never go back.

Decided to give Southern Cross a try, based on decent reviews here on yelp and also because I tend to like restaurants that have a good beer selection. The ambiance of the restaurant is cute, white tablecloths and candlelight, but more homey than fancy. Service was friendly and quick (we told our server we needed to leave in time for a movie and he made sure our meals came quickly). The owner came over after our meal to chat and see how everything was. The menu has an emphasis on deep fried food and large portions, so this may not be the best place to come if you are watching your calories! We started with an order of chicken wings and fried pickles. Both were tasty but a bit on the greasy side. Needless to say, we devoured them, throwing dietary caution to the wind. As to entrees, we stuck with the sandwich selections on the menu, as the entrees seemed a bit pricey. The short rib grilled cheese was a standout (though it was so large I could only eat half of it). Our dining companions ordered the "burger" which was a giant size as well, and topped with a fried egg. They was nothing left on their plates, so I am assuming they liked it. Fries come with the sandwiches, they were OK but nothing to write home about. The beer selection was good (20+ taps), and we enjoyed a few hoppy IPAs which held up to the somewhat heavy greasy sandwiches. Overall, I would say Southern Cross is a decent place. I liked the ambiance, service and beer list more than I liked the actual food here.

Being the next restaurant after Stella blu and gypsy, southern cross has definitely kept with their standards. The space seems a bit crammed at first but definitely opens up. The tap list wasn't too large but had a fair variety of imports and exotics. I had the cheesesteak egg rolls for an appetizer and the scallops for an entree and a bit of the salmon. I was very impressed with the cheesesteak egg rolls, they use a thinner wrap and reminds me of a southern Vietnamese style egg roll. The scallops I thought were cooked brilliantly and the sauce complimented them quite well. The salmon had a fair texture and quite a generous portion. Overall my experience was great. A bit on the pricier side but definitely worth it!

Absolutely delicious food. Everything prepared and presented beautifully. Kishy atmosphere. We had a party of 5 abd we all shared each others entrees. Yummy! Best southern food east of Texas.

Food is good but a little pricey. The staff tries to push their mixed drinks a little aggressive. The staff also dressed a little too casual. Overall, I would probably not be a "frequent" visitor but I would come back if I was in the mood for their huge "heart attack burger" which included an egg, bacon, and a bunch of other toppings. The desserts looked delicious but I had no appetite left for dessert after eating the burger! There is free parking right across the street and another plus: there are a bunch of other bars and restaurants nearby!

The girlfriend and I stopped in about a month ago. There is a certain charm to it. The upstairs is quite relaxing, the walls home-like and you have a Savannah like feel to it. The fried chicken (which I'm told is their specialty) was decent but nothing to write home about. The green beans were fresh but mixed with canned mushrooms, which ruined that part of the plate. The starches were not memorable. The 3 stars comes from management. The server (who was just filling in) told me that the chicken was 3 breasts, which struck me as odd, because most platters include a 4 style bird (brst/leg/wing/thigh), especially higher-end places like this one. When the meal arrived, it was in fact the 4 and not the 3 breast. As we were finishing up, the mgr? came up to us and asked about the meal. I explained that it was good but I wouldn't order it again. She proceeded to cut me off and tell me that the chix is their specialty. So that being said, she demanded to know who the server was and was almost yelling at staff walking by "Was it her?!". As she saw our waitress, she proceeded to belittle her and informed us that part of the meal was on the house. For someone who has worked in the food/nutrition industry for years, it was embarrassing. I sought out our waitress and told her the money the manager took off the check would go into her tip after assuring her that she was completely out of line for making a scene over me saying the chicken was "okay". I will probably head back because I'd like to give a higher rating sometime in the future. "People don't care what you know until they know that you care" -Joe Focht
Not thrilled after everything we heard. We were looking forward to a great meal and it was ehhh. To start, the plate of oyster crackers and horseradish was left from the last diners at the table. I proceeded to move this to the side of the bar. When the waitress brought us a new one, she grabbed the one I just removed and brought it over... baffled when I explained what she had just done. She couldn't understand how that was not acceptable. Moving on... I ordered the petite filet special. To my surprise, it was a petite, petite filet. Pounded out to a 1/2" thick and pan fried. Don't get me wrong, but tell me it will be pan fried and call it a "pan fried steak" ! To top that, it was served with potato chips. YES... potato chips. I know they are supposed to be home style southern cooking, but COME ON! Normally, great service and a bad meal or a great meal and bad service would have me back for a second chance, but can't say I'm going to give it another try.

Food is awesome. So is the service. Jonathan is the best bartender ever. Short rib flatbread is incredible, so is the short rib grilled cheese. Drinks are awesome. Such a great atmosphere and wonderful comfort food.

My coworkers and I recently went to Southern Cross for lunch. And I have to say, I'm partial to their food over this management's other restaurants in Conshy - Stella Blue & The Gypsy Saloon. Their pulled pork is very good, as is their fried chicken. And the menu really left me wanting to try more things. It really is a nice approach to comfort food, and it's likely I'll be going back for more. Honestly, the food probably warrants a four-star review. However, the service was questionable. When one member of our party asked to substitute the side of french fries included with his meal for a side of collard greens (both items available for $5.00 on the menu), our server told us that they didn't allow substitutions. Okay, seemingly arbitrary given that both items are of equal value, but we went ahead and ordered a separate side of collard greens. When our food arrived, my coworker's meal had collard greens in place of fries. Substitution successful! Except that when we received the bill, we were still being charged for the extra side of greens... the greens that were so clearly on his plate in place of french fries. When we explained to our server that we didn't receive an additional side, he returned to tell us that he could only deduct $2 from the bill. $2 of the $5 side we did not receive. Seems like an odd business practice. So keep an eye on the service, but enjoy the food at Southern Cross.

Overall really great. Excellent all-around service. I tried the Southern Burger and it was probably one of the largest and tastiest burgers I have ever had. Their menu isn't the biggest but there is a little something for everyone on it. They also have a great beer selection. I will definitely be back and I recommend this place to anyone looking for good eats in Conshohocken.

Great Food. Decor is much proved since it first opened. Waitstaff is super friendly. Had the fried Chicken, wife had the Talapia. Both were outstanding. Not a great place to bring our two year old, but not a bad place either. Very good beer selection. We would definitely come back.

Recently stopped in the new Southern Cross restaurant in Conshohocken. This is the old "8 East" bar and nightclub that folded earlier this year. The new decor inside is much more welcoming. Lots of tables and seating upstairs with its own bar. The bartender mentioned the upstairs can be rented out for private parties. They had a girl singing and playing acoustic guitar upfront where the golden tee used to be. It was not too loud, so you can actually still here the people your talking to. There is a great selection of micro-brews and seasonals on tap. Tried the southern fried chicken sandwich for dinner, absolutely delicious. Looking forward to trying other options on the menu.

Nice Brunch today. Had the pulled port sliders with slaw, very tasty. Shared a fried chicken breast sandwich with my wife, very large portion that she could not finish, the chicken was excellent, crisp on the outside and moist inside. The bread that the sandwich was made of was also excellent. The fried pickles are also a must. Very friendly service.

I like the atmosphere and decor, and the menu looks good. But the food is really average. My aunt had forewarned me that "they can't cook chicken." I really wanted to find out for myself and proceeded with a reservation for a medium sized party. Well...the food was really so-so. It tasted like food cooked by folks who have no idea what southern food should really taste like. And by the way, how can you have a southern restaurant that doesn't serve sweet tea??? Others in my party also have a fair review. The food gets 2 stars. The third star is for the atmosphere and live music--I'd probably go back for drinks and entertainment (and maybe an appetizer only).

Loved this place! It was an amazing experience of southern cuisine in Philly. Service was friendly, went there for restaurant week and it did not disappoint. The fries Mac n cheese was really delicious. The true star for me was the Chicken and Waffles. I'd never actually had this dish before but it was really amazing, salty and sweet, crispy and delicious. We also had the sweet potato gnocchi which were absolutely delicious. I will definitely be returning.

Do yourself a favor and no NOT go here. I've worked in the industry for 10 years and this was by far the WORST customer service ever. My friend and I waited 15 minutes just to be greeted and sat on a very slow day. After sitting for 30 minutes the "waitress" finally came to take our order. She ignored my friend and I several times and just walked right by us. When I asked about a particular dish not having onions in it, they said it was already premade and frozen, so they cannot do it. Um, I'm sorry....isn't this supposed to be a SOUTHERN kitchen? I think not. If you are really craving fried chicken, go to McDonald's....you will get just as good quality of food and I'm sure better customer service.

Best brunch in town! Went Sunday afternoon for brunch. The food here is generally above average but this brunch blew me away. There's a few food choices for the brunch along with some good drink specials, or you can just order from the regular lunch menu. I got the fried chicken (so did most of the people I came with). The plate was massive. Fried chicken, biscuits with sausage gravy, 2 eggs and cheddar cheese grits. Everything on that plate was perfect. Anyone with a big appetite is encouraged to check this out!

Had an early dinner New Year's Eve. They allowed me to order something that was not on the shortened holiday menu which was very nice as my diet is currently limited. The one issue, a steak ordered was puny and overcooked but they immediately recognized their mistake and replaces the item with the correct portion. Overall gracious service. Nice atmosphere and as this was the second time we dined here it was as expected and a nice dinner.

Went last Saturday night. Something went wrong in the kitchen - this was a 2 hour dinner that should have been one or so. Food is good, but it was luke warm - not hot like it should have been. Its a bit on the pricey side too. Anyway, the staff and owner are great, so too bad things seem to have gone wrong in the kitchen. They did comp us the dissert, and app. Not sure we will go back.

Took 12 folks here for happy hour last night. Downstairs bar was full, but upstairs was wide open. Good selection of wines and beer, which is not always easy to find together. We had great happy hour appys too! We had a great night and will be back. Southern Cross rocks!

I went here for dinner last night and the food was amazing. I highly recommend the margarita shrimp appetizer. I can't remember the last time I had a dish in a restaurant that I could not stop raving about. The atmosphere was cute but we were upstairs and I was absolutely freezing. Service could have been better. Very friendly but we were almost done with our meals before we were checked on and asked if we wanted another drink.

Tried this place for the first time today for lunch. I had my 7 month old with me. Not only did the hostess get me change from the bartender for the parking meter, she went out and fed the meter to my car so I wouldn't have to lug the baby outside again. That's excellent service. I've been to the other two restaurants in Conshohocken owned by the same people (Gypsy and Stella Blu) but this one is my favorite. Great tasting menu and excellent service. The only negative thing I would say is that the desserts are a little higher priced for lunch. ($8)--but rest assured, they are very tasty. Otherwise, I highly recommend it.

Not the usual southern style menu, but what they did serve was very good. The food was fresh, customer service was fine and the restrooms were clean. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious southern food. A tad bit pricey, but worth the visit.

I AM a fan. Just visited this place for the first time and was more than pleased. The service and drinks were outstanding. When I go out for dinner, my night can be made or broken by the cocktail menu. Oh and did I mention I am married to a beer snob? Expectations exceeded. We were accompanied by our equally discerning friends. Satisfaction all around. The food was wonderful, but very heavy and filling (yes, I know its Southern food)... only complaining because it interfered with my cocktailing. I would have liked to see some lighter fare and simpler dishes (the specials were good, but slightly over-the top). There was an excellent sounding band playing upstairs - normally I would have checked out that scene but the fried deliciousness combined with alcoholic manna were having a dance party in my belly and I had to get home before I pooped my pants.

Fantastic spot for delicious food or a well-crafted cocktail. Stopped in yesterday on our way through town. I splurged on the fried chicken on my Cobb salad after asking the server if the calories were worth it. She was right...they were! Had the Tuscan Cosmo with Prosecco which went very nice with the chicken. My husband had the Pulled Pork Sliders with a side of Mac & Cheese and loved it. Highly recommend! Only downside is that there were happy hour specials that we couldn't order from because we were at a table and not in the bar (no seats at the bar at 5:30 on a Thursday).

Good atmosphere although I felt like the style of food as well as service was a bit outdated. The cornbread was great. The fried pickles were note-worthy. The Chilean sea bass special, was fishy, as was the calamari, one of or both made me sick and as far as southern food joints go, I wasn't marvelously impressed by their fried chicken. The service was way too slow (keeping up with a southern pace?); It was inattentive when we required attention and overbearing when we would have preferred to be left to eat in peace. I might eat here again, depending how desperately I'm craving comfort foods. I'll keep away from the fish and probably opt for bar seating next time!

Location is great and service was exceptional. Menu is diverse with lots of potential. Went there with a large group for dinner and the dishes we ordered were really hit or miss. Half of our group loved what the ordered while the other half were disappointed. 2 entrees had to be returned to the kitchen because the shrimp was inedible(our server even tried one and agreed something was wrong). As I mentioned, the staff was top notch and comped us desserts for the troubling entrees. Would probably go back for drinks/apps.

Really cool place with lots to offer for whatever type of outing your looking for. I'd give a 4.5 star if I could, with a good shot at getting to a 5 in future. I've been here for lunch, dinner, drinks with coworkers, and, most often, brunch. The food is always top notch and they have a fantastic beer selection. Dinner can get a bit expensive, but they have some smaller options for those who just want to have a bite to eat and grab a drink, too. Brunch is really cool because the menu is pretty extensive and showcases a lot of their offerings and fortes. They also have an "all inclusive" option at brunch which is $12 for all you can drink mimosas, screwdrivers, and bloody marys as well as a plate of biscuits and cornbread. My only complaints really are that at least 50% of the time they don't bring the biscuits and cornbread and I have to ask for them (sometimes twice) and that they're a bit inconsistent on how often they refill the bottomless drinks. I get that they probably don't want you sitting there all day drinking them, but there have been times they've refilled me 5 or 6 times and others where I've struggled to get my money's worth (which is about 3 drinks, by my estimation). I imagine it hinges on how busy it is and what kind of help they're working with, but I just wish they could deliver on the all inclusive option a bit more consistently. All in all though, those are some pretty minor flaws and I'll continue to go back to Southern Cross very often!

First time dining at SC. The fried pickles were great and the fried calamari was pretty good as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the calamari dipping sauce. For lunch I ordered the fried oyster po boy and it was stuffed with about 8 large oysters. My friends had the BLT and the short rib grilled cheese. Both of them were pleased with their selections. Unfortunately I wasn't able to drink but they had a really nice craft beer draft selection in the bar area.

I have been to SCK a few times for lunch and each time the service was just ok. The servers were pretty unattentive and one of our servers had a bloody finger covered up with a bandaid which was bloody as well. (Gross.) The food was pretty good. I've tried the fried pickles, the lobster mac, and their Bacon and Avocado sandwich. All were pretty satisfying. More recently, a group I am involved in at work booked our Holiday party with them. We had such a positive experience last year that there was no hesitation to go back this year. Boy were we in for a surprise. Our contact person was unresponsive and trying to get a contract and menu finalized never happened. We ended up moving our entire group to another venue at the last minute. If you're going for a drink or two and an appetizer, I'm all for it. If you're looking for great service whether for a meal or a holiday party, I would consider other places in the area first.

Go on Wed night, bypass the fancy downstairs, head right upstairs. Danny is a great bartender. Tell him what type of beer you drink and he finds you a few charities got try. Had the trout with spicy tomato sauce. Really good. Plus a shout has to go to Jimmy and Jeff who play here @ 7pm on Wed. Really great songs and take all sorts of requests (how many guys do you know who can make Party in the USA sound good in acoustic)!

Service is very good. Food is decent, but the portions are small. It might just be the lunch size, but for the price it costs, it's a little unreasonable. The French fries taste exactly like McDonalds. My southern cobb salad was soaked in the red wine vinaigrette, almost rendering it inedible.

I was really excited for this meal and was so sad when it didnt live up to the hype. The decor and service were great but the food, not so much. We started off on the wrong foot when my glass had lipstick stains on it. The waitress handled it so well and clearly brought a clean glass. Then the waitress forgot to decipher whether the specials were entrees or appetizers. Sadly, my boyfriend got an appetizer as his entree. Lastly, I asked for everything on the side of my sandwich but low and behold, it came out with all the fixing. We opted out of dessert and were happy when we saw the bill wasn't unreasonable. I probably will give it another chance but very hesitantly

Forgive me Yelp, but it has been too long since my last review. We originally tried Southern Cross (SC) for brunch and it was an experience that left apt to be desired, but since we really enjoy SC owners other restaurants (Gypsy and Stella Blue) we decided to give SC another shot. Plus the beer selection was VERY nice. Here is the summary of both experiences: Brunch - we were unaware that they opened at 1030 and we got there at 1015, but they were happy to seat us shortly before 1030. We had a beer at the bar while waiting for our table and they had Terrapin MooHoo on tap, which is one of my favorite milk stouts (bonus points). When we were finally sat, they still weren't ready for us, so they really should have waited longer to give us our table, but since they were being nice I won't ding them. Where it started to go bad was when the food came... The fried pickles were good, great batter and nice and hot, but everything else was cold. The Elvis, a great concept of banana + PB was a great idea, but it should have been hot, at least the toast it was on. The omelette we go was tasty, but also less than warm. The quiche of the day was good, but nothing to write home about. The sausage biscuits and gravy was highly recommended to us by the waiter and... It was horrible. The biscuits were blah and sausage gravy had almost no flavor. We did not get the bananas foster French toast because we were told its basically desert and that is something we probably should have gotten. One upside of the experience is the decor - really cute and a million times better than the gross last establishment. Ratings - service 3, beer 4.5, food 2, decor 4 Dinner - As stated since we really enjoy the other two establishments AND they had MooHoo on tap we decided to give SC another shot. When we got there they actually didn't have anymore MooHoo which wasn't good, but they did have a tasty Vanilla Porter on tap and my GF and our friend likes their beer selections, so we were starting off good. Once we decided to sit down, although the waitress was very knowledgable and perky, the table was not fully setup (missing a set of silverware) and all of the salt, pepper, etc was on the window and not on the table. We were missing out crackers dish and spoon to eat the horseradish and crackers - which was a nice idea. It was a little weird that the horseradish was in a little plastic container and everything else was nice. The room was also packed with tables, so it was very difficult to get through. On the waitresses recommendation, we got the friend green tomatoes and margarita shrimp - both we're amazing - completely worth the money and were 5's. The entrees on the other hand left some to be desired. Although the scallops special was decent, it wasn't as good as the cost and felt like the scallops were bland. The short rib was ok, but once again felt like it needed more seasoning and flavor (but it was almost fork tender). I definitely got the best dish - the seafood jambalaya - it was very tasty, packed with great shellfish. It didn't have a much spice as I would have liked, but it was good. When we got the bill, the specials and entrees we got were not worth the $25-28 each. Ratings - service 3, beer 4, food 3.5, decor 4 Putting the two experiences together I give Southern Cross an overall rating of a 3.

I went here with reasonable expectations - and left really disappointed. My friend ordered the fried pickles - and declared them weird. Not a pickle lover, I deferred to her judgment. I ordered the avocado, shrimp salad. The shrimp was bland, the citrus vinaigrette was average, and it was just sitting all uninspired on a bed of romaine. The tiny slivers of avocado and orange were not enough to save this salad from being ordinary. My friend tried to give the fried green tomato salad a run - it was an odd combo - and she offered me a fried green tomato. It was covered in corn meal, mushy, and well - not tasty. I wanted to like this place - I love Southern food, but this was uninspired fare. The service was top notch.

Three of us had a very good meal here last night, enjoying the cornbread, shrimp and grits, and fried chicken. When our new year's resolutions about sticking to greens and grains fade, we'll definitely come back. But I'm writing a review of Southern Cross not only to praise its kitchen: I want to make note of the manager's generosity. Clearly not anticipating such a busy night (yes, a problem in itself), the restaurant had only one server working the dining rooms. Because our food was slow in arriving, our server offered us a second round of drinks on the house. But when we got our check, we saw that we had not been charged for even the first round. We drew this to our server's attention and she confirmed that these were on the house as well. Except perhaps for some puzzled looks in the kitchen's direction, we had not complained or, frankly, even suffered from the lengthy wait. So I'd like to put Southern Cross's kind gesture on the record. This was above and beyond the call.

A friend recommended Southern Cross Kitchen, so my husband and I decided to try it last weekend. Great choice! Service was fast and friendly. Brian was our server--he was very personable and efficient. My husband had the seafood jambalaya and I had the shrimp and grits. Both were excellent. Pecan pie for dessert was the perfect finish. Looking forward to going back!

The atmosphere and set up of Southern Cross is beautiful. The menu is full of Southern options though I don't find the food to be all that great. The mac and cheese is bomb but I wasn't a huge fan of the fried chicken. If you like fancier Southern food then this is a great place. Our server was very cool and socialable. This place kind of leaves me with a "I wasn't fully satisifed but am willing to give it another try" feeling.

Not my type of food since I don't care for fried stuff or eggy stuff. But what I ate there was really good. Especially some chicken soup that was best I had for awhile. Really liked the ambiance and the wait staff who were pretty and friendly.

(2)Amanda E.

Really good southern style cooking in the northeast. From the fried pickles to short ribs & fried chicken all really yummy! Great HH specials & Great Ambiance too !

Order: Peach Bourbon, Sangria, Texas Hot Wings, Crispy Calamari, Short Rib Sliders, Fried Pickles, Watermelon Fruit Beer. Problems: -Peach Bourbon Cocktail was water down, barely any taste of bourbon or peach. Had friends try it to confirm. Tasted like water. - Sangria was too strong for girl's taste (fiancée). - Watermelon - "fruit/weird beer" - out of the tap, the beer was not cold enough and it lacked the watermelon taste as described. May be out of bar's control as the brew came from California. - Texas Hot Wings - cold no spice whatsoever, Franks Red a hot sauce on the table was needed to give it some more flavor. - Crispy Calamari - most pieces were soggy, but had a good amount of flavor. - Fried Pickles - most pickles were stuck together with other pieces, some pieces were soggy but, flavor was good. - Short Rib Sliders - excellent taste, tender and juicy. Nice presentation on brown toasted mini buns. Situation: We entered the bar as a couple, walked in and stopped at the host table area. We informed the host, which turned out to be our waiter, that we were here for the Happy Hour, as he confirmed we were here for the happy hour, I asked whether we could be seated at a table to enjoy the happy hour and also have an informal dinner, we were seated upstairs next to the bar at a small table for 4. We were given a happy hour menu with the regular menus and I placed the order for the bar foods and also the happy hour drinks. Upon reviewing our check, we were only given the happy hour price for 1 sangria, apparently by accident, (as the waiter said that the manager allowed the price because of the mistake he has made) and regular price for 2 other drinks (cocktail and beer). Also, all of the food we had ordered off of the happy hour menu were charged at full price. The question is, why were we given happy hour menus and why were we not informed that we could not take part in the happy hour specials when we specified that we were here for a happy hour. If the only difference between the price I expected to pay and the price I did pay was sitting on a bar stool instead of a table in the bar area, I would have gladly enjoyed all of my food and drinks sitting at the bar, taking up a quarter of the whole bar area space with my order. I spent 95 dollars for 1 watered down cocktail, a warm beer, and soggy bar food. I WILL NOT BE COMING BACK HERE, as there are plenty of bars that are honest businesses that will serve better quality food for the price I paid. Live Music was a +1 Star Short Rib Sliders were great +1 Star Decor was quaint and detailed, candles lit in mason jars throughout window sills. Although the server/host was polite and helpful, he was improperly trained to inform patrons of the business's policies.

The bartenders (Saturday 4/4) were terrible. The bar was dead and it took them forever to get our drinks. They didn't seem to have much personality either.

I had never heard of this place, but read the generally positive reviews and was excited to try it. Made reservations and went for a casual dinner on a Friday night with a friend. Short version: service was the worst I've experienced in a while, and the food wasn't worth a return trip. We had a reservation for 8pm on a Friday that I made about an hour earlier. The hostess seemed really happy that we had a reservation, but there were plenty of empty tables. The fact that this place was NOT packed is really what makes the poor service especially inexcusable. We sat outside on the porch deck, but that turned out to be a mistake. It lacked ambiance - from what little I saw of the inside, there was a cute interior and better energy. We sat waiting for someone to take our drink order (or even acknowledge we were there) for over ten minutes. There was confusion over who our server was - and all of the outside servers were also waiting on tables inside on the first floor. Not a good sign. When we ultimately got a server, he was in a huge rush. No pleasantries (we never even got his name), and you had to be able to order with rapid-fire precision. It began when he pushy about the drink order. He saw my friend holding the wine list and immediately suggested a wine. My friend was considering another, and the server was just insistent - without any explanation. To the point that it was really awkward. My friend ended up with the server's wine and, no suprise, didn't like it. We joked that they needed to finish the bottle, but I suspect there's some truth that... I ordered a Moonshine Margarita and received a regular Margarita, but it was tasty. At the same time, we ordered short-rib nachos. They came to the table promptly, but in a little bowl (think: cereal) and there was not a single chip visible. I started to turn them away because they didn't look like nachos - just a bowl of cheese. A bit of digging to the bottom of the bowl turned up what was obviously the BOTTOM of the bag of chips - truly, just little broken crumbs. If there had been - nachos - I think they would have been quite good. The toppings were tasty enough, but seriously...? (My suspicion was confirmed when the table behind us ordered nachos and they never arrived. When they complained about it, their server told them they were out of nachos and suggested different appetizers. I wish we were given that option - what we got was not fit to be served.) Two minutes after the nachos came out, our dinners arrived. Probably a good thing because we were eating our nacho crumbs with a spoon. I got the jambalaya. It was ok, not great. My friend got the fried chicken, which came with mashed potatoes and collard greens. Chicken was also just ok. When he ordered, my friend tried to switch the greens for sautéed spinach (offered with another entree). The server told him it wasn't possible because they were all mixed together. (Huh?) Then he said that the greens are really just "decorative," not really a side, so not able to be exchanged. The plate came out piled with collard greens. Midway through the meal, the waiter saw the discarded greens and offered to get a different side - but we were to the point that we just. wanted. to. leave. We were in and out in 45 minutes - which tells you a lot. This place rises to two stars for the tasty margarita, the potential of the short rib nachos, and the fact that is down the street from an ice cream shop. The sad thing is $6 of ice cream easily surpassed our $100 meal.

(1)Jay Q.

(2)Michele J.
(4)Kara S.

(5)Soooo Hungry ..

First off, my fiancé and I are huge fans of "the conshy girls" other two restaurants, Stella Blu and Gypsy Saloon. That being said, we had high hopes for Southern Cross kitchen. Unfortunately, this restaurant is not nearly as good as their others. The food was forgettable (we started with cheesesteak egg rolls - def the best thing we got), my fiancé had mini chicken sandwiches that were little tiny pieces of chicken and a lot of doughy biscuits, making that all you could taste. I had the Cobb salad, which was just okay. The worst part of it all, is that my seat offered a clear view of the area where the staff picks up and runs food and I had to avert my eyes. Every time I looked over I saw the hostess (along with a couple of other servers at times) eating food off of guest's plates! She was picking at fries and taking food off of plates waiting to go to tables! I've worked in a lot of restaurants and I get that employees are often over worked, hungry, and exhausted. However, it's gross to see people sticking their gloveless fingers into your food. Do yourself a favor, skip Southern Cross.

(5)Nick D.
(5)Dana S.
Love this place. Great decor and atmosphere with a super friendly staff. Huge beer selections that rotates regularly and good happy hour deals. Always lively but not too crowded. Food is southern style with homemade desserts which are delicious.
(4)Dana C.
Best brunch in the area! Bottomless mimosas, screwdrivers and/or bloody mary's for $12 & they definitely don't skimp out on the refills. The atmosphere is awesome. I will say that the service is always hit or miss, though.
(4)Danielle D.

Awlful.
(1)Nick D.
(3)Yasmin C.

(3)Clay B.

As a resident of the area, I've seen many different businesses (including a bar and small lottery/convenience store) in this particular space. Last night after a committee meeting nearby, my friend and I were craving some food and decided to see if Southern Cross lived up to the hype. The décor is very home-styled, definitely to give the illusion you're in someone's home. The lighting was dimmed shortly after we were seated (around 9ish), so it was very soft and just accented by the blue mason jars with tea lights on each table. For a Monday night, it seemed busy as pretty much every table was full. The menu was varied, offering something for pretty much everyone (salads, burgers, etc), but all of them definitely had the air of comfort food with a twist.I had the pulled pork quesadilla while my friend had the calamari. Both were pretty good, although the corn bread I ordered on the side was a bit dry for my taste. Our server also told us about all the desserts as well; apparently they are all made in house. None of them struck our fancy though. I'd probably stop by again.

(4)Amanda M.
This place is amazing for brunch but pretty bland for dinner. When I had brunch here with a group of friends everyone loved their meal but when I came here for dinner no one was impressed. The service was good both times and we never had to wait for a table.
(3)kate j.
(5)Harriett T.

(2)Greg B.
(4)Corinne H.
our waitress Sarah was AWESOME! kept us happy all night, and really went above and beyond! we had a spectacular dinner there. the fried pickles and the short rib were delicious!! would definitely come here again!
(5)Brenda J.
Totally enjoyed my birthday dinner as well as my two friends. I said more "mmmmm's" over a dinner than ever before!
(4)Scott G.
(4)Abbie W.
(5)Alan R.
(3)Amy A.

All you can eat crablegs on Sundays!!!! Great meal and the staff was super friendly.

Great food and a really fun date place while you're in Conshohocken.

(5)Donna C.
Absolutely delicious food. Everything prepared and presented beautifully. Kishy atmosphere. We had a party of 5 abd we all shared each others entrees. Yummy! Best southern food east of Texas.
(4)Sal R.

First time at this restaurant. It was good but not great. The server reminded me of someone who only read the clif notes of a book. Not very knowledgeable. Could not even recommend a martini but was anxious to tell me there was a drink on the special menu that I could order. After ordering that, I opened the menu and on the first page there were a list of specialty drinks. Somebody needs to tell him. The appetizer was served late and while eating that the salad and entrée came. I would go again but expect better service.

Cute place- great for a meal with family or friends

Amazing. Virginia was our server and from drinks to dessert everything was delicious. The food was executed perfectly and dessert was down right amazing. One of our favorite spots in Conshy!!!!
(5)Kia C.
(3)Sean H.

(3)Mary C.
Took 12 folks here for happy hour last night. Downstairs bar was full, but upstairs was wide open. Good selection of wines and beer, which is not always easy to find together. We had great happy hour appys too! We had a great night and will be back. Southern Cross rocks!
(5)Justine R.

(4)Ejaazi Z.
Not the usual southern style menu, but what they did serve was very good. The food was fresh, customer service was fine and the restrooms were clean. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious southern food. A tad bit pricey, but worth the visit.
(4)Lauren A.

(4)Charlie I.
(3)S T.
(3)Joseph C.
(4)Jeff G.
(4)Mike R.
Extremely well done fish specials, well thought out craft beer selections, ask for upstairs seating by the windows if available. Waitstaff is attentive and knowledgeable, Sam is one of the best!
(4)Naomi W.
(2)James W.
(4)Dan S.
Service is very good. Food is decent, but the portions are small. It might just be the lunch size, but for the price it costs, it's a little unreasonable. The French fries taste exactly like McDonalds. My southern cobb salad was soaked in the red wine vinaigrette, almost rendering it inedible.
(2)Sarah L.
(2)David B.
Southern-style cooking will give you a heart attack, but you'll die happy after eating at Southern Cross. The fried chicken is insane!
(5)Jeremy W.

(4)Bear B.
The shrimp and grits were great!
(4)Mary F.
(5)Teena S.
(3)David K.
Not my type of food since I don't care for fried stuff or eggy stuff. But what I ate there was really good. Especially some chicken soup that was best I had for awhile. Really liked the ambiance and the wait staff who were pretty and friendly.
(4)Christine L.
They always have a great beer selection, the food is consistently great!! We had the fried pickles, shrimp and grits for appetizers. They were both beyond good!!!
