A nice surprise for my lunch break! Clean and nice interior. I had one of the lunch specials-$2 off a bento. I had tuna and salmon nigiri, salad, and miso soup. The green tea was delicious too. Excellent! I was pleased to enjoy a quick and affordable lunch here. I will definitely come back.

I probably get something from Happy Maki every few weeks or so. I appreciate that there's a clean, not-bad place in Conshohocken to get sushi or a bento box. My only complaint is that without a coupon from the Clipper Magazine that shows up every once in awhile, it's pretty expensive. My favorite thing to order is the Chicken Katsu bento. Miso soup, katsu, rice, 4 small pieces of California roll and salad for soemthing like $14. It's not cheap, but it's pretty good comfort food. PS. The screens at the cashier aren't touch-screens. Trust me, I learned the hard way.

Good times! My wife found this place and I will say that if you're looking for a high end sushi place this is not it. If you're looking for something to grab on the way home and don't want to break the bank it's perfect!

Pretty good sushi in the suburbs. Like Seve's reveiw, would you really want to eat cheap sushi? They have unique rolls, including one that comes out on fire! I particularly like the fact that there's no waiters, save acouple bucks on tip. they bring you the food out to your table anyhow. Service is always pleasant. ummm, craving some monkey balls, fried jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese. YUM!!

I've been going to Happy Maki for about 4 years. I think the sushi itself is pretty solid, albeit overpriced. My main issue with this place is that one of the employees talks with a fake Australian accent. He insists on keeping in character even though it's pretty ridiculous. Try the sushi, and try not to laugh when ordering.

I got the spicy scallop roll. It was great. I usually don't love sushi/rolls but this really satisfied me. I will definitely return.

Best sushi I have ever had. Love the spicy tuna crunch. Also loved the yellow fin roll. The egg rolls are delicious as well. Got the chicken teriyaki roll once and it was good I just prefer the seafood rolls. Overall everything is phenomenal. Have yet to have a bad thing. Always try a new thing when I come in because they have so much. My wife also loves this place as well we were not ones for sushi until we found here.

Fast casual sushi joint. The sushi is ok, prices are decent. Its BYOB which is a plus and the inside looks nice. Mostly a take out joint. Conshohocken really doesn't have a lot of sushi options so it fills a need.

Stopped in here for lunch today. I didn't think it was that expensive. I got a shrimp tempura roll, miso soup and a house salad for $15. The place is cute for a take out sushi place. You can also order at the counter to eat in. The shrimp tempura sushi was tasty and fresh. The salad was good as well. I really liked the dressing. The miso soup left a little to be desired. I think it had one piece of tofu in it. I would go here again if in the area and in the mood for sushi. (Actually, I'm always in the mood for sushi.)

Much better than the "take-out" sushi you get from the counter in the grocery store but not quiet on the same level as some of the other sushi places in the area. My take: a good place to go for some decent and quick sushi. Surprisingly creative menu, nice staff, clean eating area (if you choose to eat there). It can be a little pricey (depending on your order) but like a previous reviewer said would you really eat "cheap" sushi.....I think not!

This review is for the lunch menu. This place is quick and convenient, but the price you pay for that is high and the quality is sub-par for the price. I paid $13-14 for 4 pieces of Nigiri (Sushi) and a Spicy Tuna Roll. The Spicy Tuna Roll was okay but the Sushi pieces were lacking in quality. I tried Salmon, Tuna, and Snapper. Salmon was okay because the fattiness of the fish masks the quality. Tuna and Snapper were extremely disappointing. The Tuna had a bright red color rather than a deeper ruby as it should be. It's sad to say, but the quality of fish was comparable to King Buffet ($9 w/ tip for lunch). If it's not too far from you, go out of your way to go to Bluefin instead for lunch. Their comparable lunch combo is $15 and it comes with 5 pieces of Sushi vs. 4. Add in tip of $3 for a total of $18, and you have a much higher quality meal served with Miso Soup or a Salad. With that said, I'm willing to come back to Happy Maki but definitely not for Sushi. I'd be willing to give them one more star if their Bento boxes or Donburi is good.

Okay, so the sushi here is just okay but the teriyaki bowls are pretty good and reasonably priced! My spicy chicken teriyaki bowl came with perfectly cooked sticky rice, plenty of flavorful, tender chicken sauteed with onions in a sweet and savory sauce, a side of shredded Asian slaw, and a small bowl of miso soup. The portion was also pretty generous, given the very reasonable $8.50 price tag. I was quite happy with the meal and loved that the chicken and rice weren't at all dry, which is often at other places. Will definitely be back to try the other bowl options.

Not that many Sushi places in Conshy that I would trust...Actually I only know of 2 and one is kinda sketchy. So guess how pleased I was when Happy Maki kicked out some stupid school of dance and decided to serve their delicious Bento boxes. I do get that it is a little pricey but would you really eat "cheap" sushi? The inside is very well done for primarily a take out place, and the staff is very friendly. If you have more than 3 people I really wouldn't suggest eating in but thats up to you... The Bento box is the best bang for your buck and my go to. Like Alexandra said its probably not an 2-3 times a week thing, but definitely 2-3 times a month when you get the craving for some sushi thing.

Stumbled across Happy Maki this past weekend, I honestly had never noticed it before. I'm picky about my food and while I enjoy sushi I like everything cooked (not a raw fan). Tried the Killer Shrimp Roll and Angry Scallop roll and both were absolutely phenomenal. I thought they were prepared perfectly, I liked the presentation but best of all they were delicious. Happy Maki may be a little pricey but it left me a happy customer.

The sushi is pretty good here, It's not blue fin or Osaka but decent. They lost stars because their service is super slow! It's taken over 20 minutes before when they weren't busy! My pickup orders also are not always ready when I arrive. Also, their a bit over priced for their portions.

EDIT- I have decided to edit my post instead of update it, since I only wrote it a week ago. Despite my opinion of Happy Maki from my first visit, I decided to give them another chance because I thought the food was good. This time, I went with take out. I found the food to be virtually inedible. The sushi was mealy and unappetizing. Also, it's highly aggravating to open a small soup container to discover it is half empty. This was the case with the miso and the udon. Nothing here is worth the money. The portions are small and the food is not good. I will never go back. Here's the original post- How could I not like a place called Happy Maki? Come on, folks, that's adorable. Too bad the place is so odd, because I don't like it. I have always lived under the assumption that when there are no servers, the prices go down. Or that when you are housed in a suburban strip mall, the prices go down. Or when you use mostly disposable dishes, the prices go down. Or when a restaurant doesn't offer tap water, don't the prices usually go down? Are you noticing a trend, reader? This place generally does everything on the cheap, and yet their prices are fairly high. There are no technical servers. You walk up to the counter, order, and they'll bring your food to your table. Drinks are self service so at the counter they will offer you a choice of soda fountain or a bottled drink, including bottled water. Their tea and green tea options are limited to a bottle of Peak's green iced tea. Everything is plastic ware, the utensils, the soy sauce plates, the small plates. The only things not plastic are the dishes they bring the food on. I hope the rest is all biodegradable, cause they're producing a lot of garbage. The food was good, but not good enough to justify the prices. My miso was tepid and only filled half the bowl. The rolls were good, but certainly not great. The price is definitely not justified. Most of their special rolls are based off a California roll. For instance, the Dragon roll is a California roll with eel on top. That should not be $15, especially when the California roll only costs $4.95 Or how about this pricing decision. A spicy tuna roll is $6.99, a little bit steep, but not outrageous. A spicy tuna crunch roll is $8.99. The only difference is the addition of tempura flakes for $2. This place is weird. Everything is done on the cheap, and yet costs more than normal. Maybe they will work on this once they are open a little longer. I don't think I'm going to stick around to find out.

The Sushi isn't bad, but it's overpriced for the quality and small portion sizes. The lunch special isn't a bad deal, but I'd rather drive 5 minutes more to Blue Fin on Germantown which has some of the best Sushi in the country. If you don't mind going to North Wales, Assi Plaza has excellent, fresh, mouth watering sushi for less than half the price they're charging here.

We had quite the opposite experience than that of 'jenna c' and 'joe s'. We loved Happy Maki and didn't find it weird at all! We ordered the Philly sushi, the Shrimp Tempura Crunch sushi, and the Chicken-Katsu Rice Bowl. All were delicious.. and the Shrimp Tempura Crunch was an absolute winner for us--we highly recommend it! We will most definitely go back there and we're quite eager to try other menu items. The dining area is quaint and clean and the staff was friendly. We actually showed up 5 minutes before closing and they welcomed us and allowed us eat there past closing time. And who cares about the plastic ware!! It wasn't tacky at all and as long as there's good food in it, that's all that matters!! Happy Maki also sort of reminded of us of a mini version of Pei Wei Asian Diner (which is also really good), but with a much larger selection of Sushi. Finally some better eats in that area of Conshocken! A little pricey but worth it. :)

I have to give this place props simply for being a fast-casual sushi restaurant. If you're looking to quickly fulfill your sushi craving, go here. They have a full menu and a decent daily special. There's nothing outstanding about the sushi, but I was satisfied. Prices range from $8-$20.

Basics: tofu salad a bit watery. Crispy tempura Roll was lean, very very very stingy w/ the wasaby & Ginger. The nigiri was good. The $ 34.00 price tag was out of control. Trying to order more food @ 1 minute to 9 ended in them telling me they had already closed. Next time I'll drive the 11 miles to bonjung and not have regrets.

Happy Maki brings a new style of dining to the Philadelphia area. People do not see much of what they offer. People often complain about the high prices of their sushi based on the services they offer. What is actually happening is neglect for why they do things the way they do. They purchase the same expensive ingredients as high quality restaurants and bring their west-coast style of rolls to the Conshohocken area. Their prices reflect what a typical sushi restaurant prices their sushi while understanding that it would be more if their customer base chose to dine at a restaurant. Tip is expected from those types of restaurants but here at Happy Maki their goal is to provide the same sushi at a faster and efficient rate. Their attempt is all done while keeping the prices quite balanced. So, if you honestly calculate the prices of eating sushi along with tip you save a few dollars and eat high quality food. Also understand that the restaurant is more geared towards take-out. Overall this restaurant brings a unique style that is actually a new experience for all.

This is one of my go-to sushi place. I wouldn't necessarily recommend dining in because it appears to be more of a take-out place which I actually prefer. I love the variety they have but I must say my favorite is the tornado out of the special rolls and spicy tuna from the regular roll menu.

Great lunch deal. Delicious rolls. Was here for lunch and had the spicy tuna roll and Mexican roll. Mexican was just some spicy sauce in a California roll. But were tasty. Next time I may venture out to their specialty rolls. They had some intersting ones with fried calimari.

Happy Maki definitely fills a niche interest in the area: fast takeout sushi that is better than grocery stores and most Chinese places that also do sushi. There are a couple of things I really like about this place: - my wife doesn't eat seafood, and Happy Maki actually makes rolls with meats (cooked, of course), like beer teriyaki. Their vegetable rolls are pretty good too. - they have some pretty creative rolls here, and daily specials - the eating area, should you choose to eat in, is pleasant and clean On the downside: - their price point is a little high, pretty close to sitdown sushi places. It's not uncommon for me to spend $50 here on takeout. - service/friendliness is hit or miss If you happen to be in the area, I would check out Happy Maki, but not sure I would go out of my way. That said, I am definitely happy that this place is here.

I went practically 30 minutes before they were closing one evening night, and they were still very friendly to me. It does have places to sit down in the restaurant, however you first go to the counter and order your food, such as like a Panera. I sat down to wait for my food, and they brought it out to me. I am not sure if that is regular practice, or they did that because I was the only one in the restaurant. There is a good chance at busier times that you are suppose to pick up your food from the counter. I only ordered one maki roll, the Happy Mango, and it was very good. I did not go crazy ordering a bunch of rolls only because they are a little over priced. Some rolls are about $3-5 more than other places I have been to that I know has good quality rolls. If the prices were a little less I would have tried out more. The best bang for your buck would be a rice bowl. You get a very reasonable amount of food, and a nice cup of miso soup. They have good sized cups available if you just want water, and the most important thing I noticed is that they were very clean! Even though it was closing time for them they did not make me feel rushed, and I overall enjoyed my meal. Also it is a BYOB if you are interested.

I got takeout sushi from Happy Maki. I ordered a spicy tuna and a philadelphia roll. The sushi was notably fresher and better than the order I picked up from the Stonewell a few weeks back for less money. Important when sushi places are less than a 5 minute drive from one another.... The inside of the restaurant is small, dark, modern and cute. I don't see it as being a great date place- probably just better to grab a quick lunch and they do have lunch specials. The guy at the counter was pleasant and it was an in and out experience. I'd be so bold to say that this is the best sushi in Conshohocken. If you want a sit-down experience and a higher quality product/more options then you need to head down to Bluefin2.

The wife and I have been coming here for years. I have to say the most consistent sushi experience I've ever been to. Killer shrimp, Arizona and Mexican rolls are a must!! A little expensive but for what you get it is well worth it. Owners are so nice, British guy up front rocks. This is truly a hidden gem of conshohocken!!! Quality, good music, booths for seating what else do you need??

I live in San Francisco and have had top notch sushi as the norm. I didn't expect Sf quality or prices, but after reading the reviews, thought it would be above average. It was not. The chirashi was miserable...75% rice, 10% radish spirals and 15% fish. The shashimi was only 3 types of fish and only 6 slices. They were very thinly sliced. I've never had a sushi chef cut sashimi in such a way! The highlight was the seaweed salad. Tempura was average, shrimp spring rolls full of lettuce and completely tasteless, served with canned industrial Chinese duck sauce and shrimp "dumplings" that I think you can buy at Costco in the frozen section. 2 stars because at least the thinly sliced fish was fresh.

This is always my go to place for sushi in the suburbs. It sits as a hidden gem in this strip mall. I love happy maki for their fresh fish and uniquely and addicting roll options as well as their kind service. You are always greeted with a kind smile and hello and leave satisfied. Some rolls can get a bit pricey, but they do have a rotating daily special which allows you sample some of their classic rolls for a discounted price depending on the day of the week. They also do a nifty $10 lunch special with 1 raw and 1 cooked roll that is always a good option for lunch on the run. If you need advice for a standard meal for 2 and guaranteed GREAT experience, opt for the hiyashi, tornado and sunkissed rolls. You can thank me later.

I think they are overpriced for what you get. It's a small place where you order like any fast food place. What I had was good and fresh.

I have considered getting a job here just so I can eat here every day. I could eat at Happy Maki every day for the rest of my life. I love the Spicy Tuna Rolls, Yellowtail Rolls, Angry Scallop Rolls, and Sunkissed Rolls. The Bento Boxes are great, but the sushi here is what it's all about. I ordered a house salad and didn't expect much but it had a homemade ginger dressing that is fantastic. I love everything I've ever tried here. Plus they have gluten free soy sauce if you ask!

My wife and I love sushi and visit several sushi restaurants in the area around Happy Maki. We love Blue Fin, Sushi Cazu and several restaurants in the Lansdale area. Based on that, we were hesitant to try Happy Maki as we found near perfection elseware. However, based on the fact that Happy Maki is only a 2 min drive from our house, I have always wanted to give it a try. We went last week and found the entire experience horrible. The "style" of the restaurant is odd and based on this counter service, one would think the prices would reflect. But as the above posts indicate, the prices are not inline with the experience. Something about a soda fountain machine a few feet from where you are eating sushi does not compute. While a BYOB, they did not even offer to open our bottle of wine. The sushi (now this is a very bold statement) was the worst I have ever had in my life. Most was inappropriate to eat and made me feel sick the next day just thinking about it. The flavors, combinations, consistancy was just not right. While we did have decent service, I would never go back to Happy Maki. I would also never recommend this restaurant to friends and foes alike.

Every time I choose this easy in/out Japanese sushi place... It never disappoints. The host/cashier is always so courteous professional & charming. The menu is elaborate especially considering the space of the restaurant is. Every *special* sushi roll I have tried is great! Food is fresh with nice presentation too! The prices are fair they are superior in taste considering you pay about that much at the sushi pre-made/packaged from trendy super markets. Atmosphere is low-key but has that Japaneseque vibey-thing going on.

Great lunch specials! I usually get the $10 spicy salmon roll and 2 pieces of nigiri ( I get the eel!). I love that you order at the counter and they bring the food to you. It's still presented really nicely and you have actual plates and nice chopsticks, but this allows us to go there and have a nice meal and be on the road within a 40 minute timeframe at most. I'm hoping to try the bento box next time I'm there as its only $10 as well.

I was pleasantly surprised by Happy Maki! Heres the flow: Go to the back of the restaurant to order, there is a chalkboard with specials and a menu on the counter ad on the wall at the right, place your order and pay then go sit. Just a note, don't try ordering Donburi, they don't make them anymore. They bring your food to you. The sushi rolls may seem expensive, but I found the bowls to be very reasonable. The roll we tried was they Happy Mango. The fruit on top was evenly balanced with the salmon and the salmon tasted very fresh! I had the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura Rice Bowl, it was more than enough for dinner and reasonably priced at $10. The tempura was delicious and I got a good mixture of broccoli, sweet potato, and shrimp. We've grown too fond of the sushi place across the street to change allegiances, but if we want Japanese style Asian food or something other than sushi we'll be back to Happy Maki.

I love this sushi place. It's clean, has a cute ambience and the food is awesome! I just went there over the weekend and I tried two new dishes- their "Happy Chicken" salad which is crispy chicken in a mango sauce over greens- the dressing is SO good. I also tried their new Sunflower roll which is spicy tuna with crunchy tempura flakes on top- I love the crunch!! My favorite roll is the Tornado in which they fry potato sticks and pile them on top of the rolls, and their Money Ball is so unique in which they fry jalapeno peppers, cream cheese and tuna together- it sounds weird but tastes SO good! Their udon is really good too with the broth really light and flavorful. All their sauces and dressings are house-made. For a cheap, fast, delicious sushi place, I always come here!!

I've eaten here a few times. It's always just ok. But if your stuck in the burbs and need to have sushi. It's decent in a pinch. I would not recommend this as a great sushi restaurant. They're sushi is adequate, just above grocery store but not as bad as food court grade. Although it's priced as high as a freshly delivered restaurant; but it's not. The typical non-experienced tongues orders of salmon & tuna will be fresh. Clean. Good service but just overpriced adequate sushi. And they're usually out of anything too exotic.. like mackerel or squid. Oh my! Don't even think of ordering uni. They don't carry it. Oh they do have ikura but the serving size is small! All their sizes of sushi sashimi are SMALL. so don't come here hungry.

I come here for the chicken teriyaki. It's quite good. The sushi isn't half bad either. Not your typical restaurant. You basically order at a counter and they bring the food out to you. Some items are pretty pricey. This place is worth a try though.

I've seen this place pop up a while ago but never went by... I am ready to write this after 2 satisfactory recent trips. I've had the chicken donburi which is tasty without being too salty as it often is and I love that they add vegetables to this dish! Huge plus for me. I've also had a couple rolls/makis from here and they make it neat and pretty without a ton of rice to make it appear bigger. I appreciate that. The avocado/cucumber and other ingredients used seem super fresh and, the raw tuna I have had there has been very fresh. We also tried the monkey balls once and liked it a lot! It's different and interesting in flavor. They have good lunch specials too! It's nothing amazing, but Conshi area lacks in casual Japanese spots so I am happy to have this nearby to fulfill my occasional cravings.

Why pay more? With the price they charge...what is value? Seriously, just 5 minutes more drive, you can get better take out at Benihana or Blue Fin. I am not much fun of rolls anyway; but this place serves a little weird California roll to my taste...dried imitation crab meat was not so good at all :( I can just give two stars...but close to one actually!

The sushi is decent, but not great. It's definitely overpriced. For a take-out place, the decor and atmosphere are both nice. The staff is also very friendly and pleasant. I might go back here for the convenience, since it's really close to my home. But otherwise I'd probably go somewhere else to really get my money's worth.

Delicious sushi, quick friendly service, I'll definitely be returning. The prices seemed a touch high at first, but you get more sushi in your rolls here than many other places I've been, so totally worth it.

The sushi was pretty good. Nothing really that special but better than a lot of other places. My real qualm is with their pricing. They do have some good deals at certain times of the day, but I paid $8.50 for one (8 small piece) philly roll. If it was amazing sushi I might be okay paying that, but for pretty average sushi I think that's way overpriced.

Not entirely a restaurant.. counter order your sushi, and they bring it to your table. Great for a quick in and out lunch. I ordered the Fire Roll, which is a California roll in crispy tempura. VERY SPICY, and I dabbed most of the hot sauce dots off each roll, but very cleanly made, and very delicious. A must have for spicy food lovers and crispy sushi roll lovers, and at a great low price, $7.99 (very large roll) (** $10 minimum for credit cards)

Me and 3 other friends at work made a "to-go" order of sushi combo + lobster maki + udon / tampura shrimp (total cost = $46). It was excellent!! Will come back here again n again n again.

Best sushi ever. Little pricey but worth it! M-w get there before 6 and its bogo!

Fresh sushi and always tasty! Very nice place for a quick lunch or a small get together. The decor is cozy an inviting. Don't forget to check out the special of the day!

(5)Paul C.
i walked in...and then walked right out...what is this place?? chinese take out??
(1)Clinton S.

(5)Mark M.
(5)Maria B.

(5)Mike P.
I think they are overpriced for what you get. It's a small place where you order like any fast food place. What I had was good and fresh.
(3)Anna S.

(5)Leslie W.

This is a great little spot. Fresh, reasonable and friendly service. It's not high end but fills a middle of the budget sushi need. Will be back for sure.

(5)Sharon M.
(3)Eric P.
I come here for the chicken teriyaki. It's quite good. The sushi isn't half bad either. Not your typical restaurant. You basically order at a counter and they bring the food out to you. Some items are pretty pricey. This place is worth a try though.
(3)Bun-alicious K.
(4)Ken K.
(2)Jess I.
(3)Colleen H.
Delicious sushi, quick friendly service, I'll definitely be returning. The prices seemed a touch high at first, but you get more sushi in your rolls here than many other places I've been, so totally worth it.
(5)Abigail C.
(3)Aimee T.
(3)James S.
Me and 3 other friends at work made a "to-go" order of sushi combo + lobster maki + udon / tampura shrimp (total cost = $46). It was excellent!! Will come back here again n again n again.
