Again, Adel is amazing. Everything here is wonderful. I saw a reviewer who said "maoz is better and this should be a last resort." I can't even. Ha. Maoz cannot even come close to what Adel has in pita pocket. Can't wait until I go again.

Stopped in here for a quick dinner last week and it was pretty good. Nothing to write home about though. We ordered the falafel platter and a salad. The salad bad (around 7:30PM) was just about empty and did not have much to offer. The falafel balls were very crispy and good, however, there was not enough pita given to really make a good falafel sandwich. The hummus and tehina were both ok, but again nothing too special. We are big fans of middle eastern food, especially falafel and hummus, and the Pita Pocket Eatery is a good choice if you want a quick meal. I wish the place was a little cleaner though.

3.5 stars gearing towards 4! Got the falafel platter and the falafel was fried to perfection. Beautiful green color inside and golden brown on the outside. It didn't taste greasy and had a subtle pop of the herb mixture. However, maybe because I went during a quiet time, I was only given about 4 toppings at the salad bar rather than the large variety of what others posted. Also, came down a few dollars more than what I would typically spend for a falafel (even for a platter). The owner was really friendly!

Great place for chicken shawarma. Although the chicken can get a little dry, lathered in enough tahini sauce and red chili paste, accompanied with the multitude of options from the pickled add-ons and salad bar, it's just really really good. It can quickly get "messy" but that's going to be the least of your concerns. You'll likely have to explain to others why you didn't get enough to share. And I have to agree with those who laud their falafel. It really is fantastic. Not dry, like many places I've had in the city. Try it and you'll taste the difference.

Just ate my first falafel sandwich here at pita pocket and it was guuuud!! This is going to be my Friday spot for lent. It's great that he has a fixings bar so when you have a take out it doesn't make you sandwich soggy. Genius!! The falafel was perfectly crispy and flavorful and matched well with the silky smooth humus. I would recommend pita pocket to anyone that loves falafel.

Best Falafel in the Philly area, hands down. As a teenager I worked for Yohai Koday in Center City, making what was then Best of Philly 6 years running. Pita Pocket puts that to shame in so many ways. The food is fresh and homemade and tastes like it was prepared with love. The owners/employess here are very friendly and helpful, and though the restaurant isn't fancy, this place is run with the customers in mind. They really want you to enjoy your meal. Whether I get take out or eat in, I am always satisfied.

Tried ordering the chicken schwarma but they were out. Ended up with the falafel pita which was good. Nothing special...will probably visit again but not make a special trip.

Traditionally Israeli food is not easy to come by, even downtown. In new york, these hole in the wall shops are everywhere and you barely have to walk down the block to get some decent falafel. In that light, finding out about pita pocket was, just, great. The owner and chef are welcoming, genuinely enthusiastic guys who take pride in their work. Their menu is fairly standard, with a significant vegetarian bias. Their hummus is as expected from a traditional restaurant, different from Sabra, and I mean that in a good way. Their lentil soup is a creamy, garlicky, spicy, delicious experience. Their shawarma is actually hit or miss. One time I had it and I was blown away. The next, it was, eh. With a vegetarian heavy menu, I'm not sure shawarma is their top priority. Fortunately, said vegetarian options are home runs. Falafels, just get it, stop asking questions. Had the sabich, which is marinated eggplant sandwich with falafel. Also, amazing. I cant argue with their pricing scheme as they have no competition worth mentioning, it's just a tough pill to swallow getting a falafel sandwich and soda for around 10 and change when I'm used to the same for about half the price in NYC. Regardless, go here.

This place has the best falafel anywhere in Philadelphia. I have tried so many falafel places, and NONE of them live up. The guy who makes the falafel is always friendly and they have an excellent condiment bar. The chili paste is extra spicy. It's perfect!

I am taking some extra time to write for my appreciation of a great meal on a tough day. I traveled up to Philadelphia for a funeral from the DC area. I knew ahead of time that we would be in need of some kosher food after the funeral, since my Rabbi was with me and Philly Cheese steaks were not going to work.. The Cemetery was Har Nebo, very close by. So the day before, I used Google Maps to search for Kosher Restaurants near the cemetery. Pita Pocket came up as only 2.5 miles away. I looked at the reviews and knew I had the right place. We had the best Shwarma since Israel. Everything was fresh fresh fresh. And the atmosphere was warm and the Chef was very engaging and interesting. Ok, it was a little pricey, but all I know is that it was truly a meal of comfort and my wife and I were grateful to be able to share a wonderful meal with our Rabbi.

You know how you drive past a place and wonder what it's like inside. This was the place. Everytime it would just stir up thoughts of 'one day I'll try it out'. And, so it was this day I discovered a gem! I tried the falafel there. It was absolutely delicious! I had the nerve to drive home as I was eating this thing! I kept saying to myself 'this is Heaven! this is Heaven!', like I have Tourette's. It was so fresh and seasoned so right! The bread was on point, they must make it fresh! This has to be the best falafel I have ever tasted. I haven't had Mamoun's (NYC) in a long time, but I think this has to be better. They have a bar where you can take pickled items which was also very fresh so to compliment your entree. I'm going to have to make a drive out here one of these days again before I bounce out of Philly!

The falafel sabich sandwich was amazing! We also had the turkish coffee and baklava. The owner was very nice and helped us with our choices. The coffee is very strong with the grounds settle out in the bottom, so different but so delicious.
(4)Heather S.
The service was excellent and the falafel was awesome! Everything is fresh and made on site. They even deliver (so I'm in trouble!!!). I used to go into the city to get Maoz BUT I'm so glad to have found a closer, tastier, alternative!!! It's a small place in a strip center with a few other eateries but it will be worth stopping in!

If i could rate the cook then this would be a 5 star review....but its not. Its based on the food. I'm sorry but Moaz is waaaaaaay better. The veg was definitely fresh but the tziki sauce was watery, the falafel and hummus were bland. Best part of the falafel platter was the whole wheat pita. The pita is really good! Glad I tried it though. If you cant make downtown to moaz, then maybe as a lasr resort. But only if I'm desperate and live close would I go again...

The food is great. My wife and I got a falafel pita and a chicken shwarma pita, they were both great. Salad/topping bar is loaded with good stuff, good olives. Watch out, the red pepper paste is thernuclear hot. Small diner atmosphere, there was loud middle eastern music my wife and I found pretty distracting. We'll probably do takeout in the future. But the food's great.
(5)Karen K.
Chef is friendly and charming. Falafel freshly made to order, with a condiment for customers to fill their plates with yummy fillings. I wish there were more falafel patties in the sandwich, though. I have read incredible reviews regarding their lentil soup-- that is next on my list. As good as it gets for the area!

So, so confused by the great reviews.... Place was dirty, staff (owner?) was so pushy. Food was mediocre at best. The salad bar was disgusting. I would strongly encourage you to avoid at all costs. Can you give zero stars?

Like John R., I also thought this place might be a little sketchy, but found out I was wrong wrong wrong. First I used to the number on this yelp page to call and no one answered (sketchy, the answering machine sounded like I had dialed someone's cellphone and I thought I had for a moment, but rest assured it is the correct number), so I decided to just walk in and try it. I got the falafel sandwich for $6.25, and a side order of fries ($2). The fries were definitely homemade and hand cut, but very potatoey and dense. I'm a fan, but could see how others might not be. Everything was made to order and took less than 10 mins total to make. Once the falafel were done frying, he slathered a pita pocket with hummus and handed it to me to fill up with veggies at the "salad bar" (see picture). There were a lot of choices to top it with. many pickled varieties, cabbage, a tomato and onion chop, green olives, roasted red peppers, etc. it was hard to choose what to stuff my already stuffed pita with! There are also convenient little plastic containers to put the toppings in to go. The bread of the pita was good, and the falafel was yummy. Adel is very friendly and has a lot of offer at his little dive here in Elkins Park. I'm curious about his virgin hibiscus sangria, and will give that a try next time.

Could be the best falafel.ever! Got the platter. You get 8 falafel balls humus.pita, Plus you get to make your own salad.Cabbage and carrots, roasted red peppers, chopped tomato &cukes, pickles, sauerkraut, olives. barley, beans, giardniera and some amazing flavorful house made hot sauce. More food than I could eat at one sitting! Great humus. Must try something different next time.. maybe. So glad I found this place. Don't let the outside surroundings fool you. This place is a must try!

Finally I found a great falafel place in the Northeast. This place rivals Mamas in downtown philadelphia. The Falafel Pita was fantastic, falafels were tasty, hummus was great. I filled my pita with cabbage, tomatoes and cucumber and spicy sauce from the salad bar. Picked up some picked cauliflower, carrots. So good. My girlfriend got the chicken shawarma which was absolutely amazing. I wish they offered lamb shawarma, i would have gotten that. If you're like me, you probably have driven past this place a few times, do yourself a favor, stop in and try it out.
(5)Nancy W.
This is by far the best falafel I've ever had, plus it's gluten free! I've passed by Pita Pocket numerous times but never had the chance to stop in. Didn't realize what I was missing out on in the Northeast! Going in for the first time today, I was given a plate to sample what was on the menu. Everything was amazing! It made it extremely difficult to decide what I wanted. I ended up getting a falafel with hummus on pita and added random selections from the salad bar. The service was great and the environment is very welcoming! This is definitely a place that I will be returning to!

There are two quick-eat places in Philadelphia to get good falafel and this is one of them. Excellent service and very fresh food. Gang - try this place.

I will agree with every one below who wrote such great reviews. I work at near by hospital location from this place. My senior mention me once about this place. I was quite skeptical due to location as it's located next to Chinese nail shop and some pizza sh op I assumed its one of those weird cheap place too. I am glad I gave it a try and I am big fan of it. Twice a month I get my Friday dinner from here. I usually get falafel platter and their hisbiscus tea. Simple amazing food. Falafel balls are fried as per order. Great and welcoming service with great selection of salad to stuff inside pita. Please give it a try and stop buy.

I met a friend here for dinner. The owner and the guy behind the counter were friendly and helpful, and I felt well taken care of. I ordered the sampler platter: Fa lafel, pita, tabouli, baba, hummus, etc-about $15. The salad bar came along with the meal, and was delicious, and included cuke and tomato salad, cabbage, pickled veggies, and hot (HOT!!) peppers. My friend ordered the lentil soup which was unique and flavorful. Everything was very fresh, and the place was as clean as a whistle. I was happy as a clam. The only drawback: I ordered some tabouli to go. In fairness, the guy told me in advance it was $7.50, which for the amount I got was on the expensive side. Nevertheless, I would go there again in a minute, and you should too. It's also kosher, if that is important to you.

It's great. Falafel was great, lentil soup equally delicious. Get the hibiscus tea. We will be back.

Eat Eggplant Sandwich! I love this place! It has better falafel than Saad's Halal in West Philly! A gem in a crappy strip mall on the edge of the suburbs . . .
(5)Liana L.
Great vegetarian menu, great and friendly owner. He helped us understand the menu and the foods. The food was excellent and fresh! They do also have chicken on their menu so I wouldn't call this place exclusively vegetarian so it's a lil something for everyone. Prices arent too bad either. 60 cents for grape leaves and about 6 dollar for their sandwiches.

Ok so first off, I haven't tried this place, but since my husband doesn't use the computer that much, I will write one for him. HE LOVES THIS PLACE! He is taking me here for the first time tonight. He says it's one of the best places to eat a falafel in Philly and we've traveled to israel and eaten many authentic falafels. The owner is wonderful and warm to every customer. Keep it goin'! EDIT: I finally went to Pita Pocket instead listening to my husband tell me how awesome it is, I can tell you! WOW! Their shwarma is amazing and I can't wait to visit again! The owner came up and spoke with my father in law for about 10 minutes just in conversation and was so sweet! My hubby is now in love with shwarma because I made him try it instead of having the falafel, but he was very happy he listened to me!

The best falafel and fixings in the area, also the halvah and baklava are both excellent!!! The staff are very nice and helpful!

A friend recommended Pita Pocket, even though he's generally a meat-lover. My wife wanted to go somewhere for my birthday, but we had time constraints, and I picked Pita Pocket. My wife wanted meat, and knew from these reviews and the website that chicken was available (as schwarma, meat ground and spiced and cooked on a spit), and asked for a schwarma sandwich to get chicken. Ron (the owner) explained that they only got meat when they could get it of the quality they wanted, and they had no chicken today, but only lamb. Even better! Her sandwich was enormous, rich in flavor (with hummus and a tzatziki-like dressing). I had the falafel platter, and found it excellent: lots of hummus (with ollives for garnish), unbelievably fresh and soft warm pita, and tasty crispy falafel. For salad, there's a self-serve garnish/salad bar. (More than one serving of the excellent vegetable offerings would have left little room for the falafel platter.) We had stopped by once before, and left because the "Vegetarian" sign put my wife off. I'm sorry we did, and happy that we went back: I now want to try their sandwiches/platters, one-by-one, just to get the different flavors. (Sabich, for instance, is a pita with hummus, hard-boiled egg, and (marinated?) eggplant: that'll be my next meal there.)

Everything here is SO fresh & delicious! The owner is SUCH a sweet man; he is so patient with me when I try to pronounce everything and he let's me try everything before I purchase it. It pays off - because I end up buying it!! I've had the Falafel, hummus, baba ganoush (mashed eggplant), baklava, halva (ground sesame seeds, honey, & other ingredients), & natural cut fries. ALL have been delicious! Today I tried Falafel Sabich; He just added it to the menu today! :-D It had 4 Falafels, hummus, sliced roasted eggplant, sliced hard boiled eggs, & he suggests you get just pickels & cabbage off the saad bar. Sounds like a crazy combo but OH MY GOODNESS! AMAZING combination & SHEESH! What a HEAVY sandwich! I'm WAY passed full! I ALWAYS get an extra bag of whole wheat pita's to take home. Definitely give this place a shot! He adds new things all the time!

My boyfriend & I had a craving for falafel, however we realized there are not many places in montgomery county that have decent falafels; the ones we've had were in the city. After yelping this & realizing it was not even 10min from my house we headed over there. NOM NOM NOM. So good. Everything was fresh & falafels were made to order. Salad bar was provided to dress your food anyway you liked. Fresh potatoes were used for the fries they served. The staff was very friendly. You can tell when people care about the food they are making and this is one small business I definitely plan on supporting and returning to.

I've driven past this place many times but for some reason felt like it might be kinda sketchy. Well, we went today, and boy was I wrong. My family and I were greeted by Adel the chef as we walked in. I immediately had a sense that this guy knew what he was doing. The menu was simple, but complete. Falafel was homemade and fresh. Side/salad bar and lots of fresh extras like picked radish and hibiscus sangria. Long story short, I'm super glad I stopped in there today. I had a major hankering for some fresh falafel and Adel made my day. Kids also chowed on the fresh humus, babaganoush, pita and olives. This place is almost 5 stars. Maybe I'll change it to 5 after my next visit.
