Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Mario's is authentic, delicious Italian food! We were on our way home from NY for a wedding and stayed overnite in Chambersburg (after seeing the sign for Gettysburg). I searched for an Italian restaurant and saw the reviews for Mario's. So glad we decided to try it. We ordered the lunch sspecial spaghetti with meatballs and spaghettis with sausage. I had salad and it was fresh and delicious and the homemade bread OMG! My husband had the crab soup and loved it. Our pasta dishes had great flavor and sauce was wonderful. We also ordered a pizza (so glad we did that). Pizza was amazing and we had leftover's for our drive!!! Service was good and I asked what part of Italy the owners were from, she said Napoli. Now here's a non-food review, we continued on our drive home after lunch, we receive a call from the restaurant as we are driving through W Virginia, they inform me that I left my purse there. I couldn't believe it... I explained I would send them money for postage once we returned to Missouri. Their daughtersaid that's okay we'll pay for it and asked for the address. I can assure your the postage was much more than the tip for our meal. My purse not only had the normal things like a wallet, but all of my jewelry and medications. The kindness of strangers!!!! after the call my husband contemplated turning around to pick up my purse as he wanted more of their food:) A few days after we returned home so did my purse with all my belongings. I am so incredibly grateful. On the food side I wish Mario's was closer. We recently relocated from CA to a very snall town in MO and we know good food. We will definitely find a reason to return to Chambersburg, PA to dine at Mario's!

Had dinner here after reading other Yelp reviews. It didn't quite measure up to some of the other reviews (ex., salad dressing was not homemade, but rather a packet of Ken's Dressing). However, the rolls were really good (warm & soft centers), and dinners were plentiful. Service was great--very attentive waiter with a great sense of humor. The restaurant was casual and comfortable. Definitely better than going to any of the many chain restaurants on the same road.

Solid choice for a good "home style" meal. service was great, MacKenzie's smile was great. Food was tasty, portions were a good value, I had the Chicken Mario that was very spicy and could not finish the whole dish. She had the Chicken Limone, very nice as well. We will stop again, for sure.

Dining solo I'm dropped at the losers table. A single seat table by the window. Once I get over the snub I 'm able to enjoy the fresh calamari salad. Beer selection was weak, but the food is very good. Service is average and prices are reasonable.

My favorite Italian restaurant in town! Pasta is always fresh and tastes great. Best cheesesteaks around. Love the tortellini and been soup. Pizza is awesome. Service is great too!
(5)R S.
It was average. I was surprized by the good reviews. Frankly, I think I would prefer a chain resaurant...and that is saying a lot. I will leave this place for the locals who do not know what great Italian is all about.

Great Italian food. All the traditional pasta dishes you would expect plus a few extra surprises. Very authentic and more than reasonable price point.

So after coming to Mario's many times and really enjoying their food and their portions we decided to get some takeout on our cheat day over a competitor. They really blew it. Paid $4 for an order of cheese fries that contained maybe one full potato's worth of fries. Pizza was great, but come on Mario's! You let me down on my cheat day! :(

We stopped here when staying in Chambersburg. The crab soup was advertised as the "best in town" so of course we tried it, it was basically frozen succotash in red broth with a couple little pieces of crab..I was a little disappointed. The bread was amazing with seasoning, soft inside, crispy outside and hot out of the oven. My manicotti was delicious but my boyfriend got the tortellini which he was disappointed in as the tortellini were premade and a little overcooked. Prices weren't bad and the service was friendly and good.

Upon entering the establishment it was business as usual. We were sat at our table and the server came by to take our drink order. He was very friendly but had no idea about the dinner special. He offered up some style of steak stuffed with asparagus, served with lasagna and salad. When we asked what kind of steak he laughed and said he didn't know as the manager created the special yesterday and didn't tell him. Suffice to say I didn't order the special. We did order the crab soup which was hot, flavorful and delicious served up with some homemade seasoned bread. The food ordered came in good order, and the Chicken Marsala was perfectly cooked and flavorful, the grilled fish platter was lacking flavor, the fish simply had no taste and little seasoning. As for the Stromboli, I'm still paying for that one. The onions in the calzone were cut larger than French onion soup some as big as an Orange wedge, hence their lack of getting cooked. I ended up pulling all the onions out of the dough along with some of the mushrooms. How can a place serve up a calzone with raw red onions, which were past their prime, with canned mushrooms and think they will cook at the same time? To top off the meal the host tried flagging down our server to to pay the bill and finally had to yell to get his attention. He was a good server but needed to be more in tune with the needs of his tables. Overall, I give it 3 stars since I've had fantastic meals there before, but tonight not so much. Will try them again in a few weeks to see if they are still having issues or it was simply an off night. On a side note, replace your disgusting ceiling tiles. They are damaged, stained and falling and give your place a run down Italian feel. Maybe one or two spots here and there wouldn't be so bad, but it's an issue across the entire ceiling.

Sat at the bar and ordered the crab imperial. Absolutely horrible. My server was amazing and felt bad. He did everything to make me happy. It was the owner who was a jerk. I didn't complain or anything. I just didn't eat it and the server noticed. Bad management and even worse food.
(1)Devon J.
The pizza and calzone were delicious. The shrimp and broccoli Alfredo was tasty but the pasta was over-cooked. The eggplant parmesan was mushy. The side salad was very wimpy. The bread was delicious. The dirty drop ceiling gave the restaurant an overall dirty feel.
(3)Kara S.
Great service, great food! Recommend the chicken parm with "mixed sauce" (Alfredo mixed with marinara) Bread was fresh and hot. Waitress was fast and friendly!
(4)Steve T.
Was disappointed! As one reviewer said could have gone to a chain! I guess for the price they charge for seafood with pasta would expect more. It's fine if you don't charge close to $20 for it but at that price it should come with other details. Bruschetta was bread with melted cheese and half sliced cherry tomatoes! Spending over $50 on dinner for 2 should be should be a good experience! Salad came with dressing packaged from ken's? Not for a high quality restaurant. Sorry.

Mario's is my family's favorite restaurant in town. All of the ingredients are fresh and the food is made on the premises by true Italians. The prices are excellent, especially for the quality of food. My favorite dish is the seafood salad, which always comes with perfectly cooked scallops and shrimp. My husband's favorite is the seafood Mario. All of the entrees we have tried (and that does include most of them) are excellent, but we are also fans of the pizza. I grew in Northeaster PA and this is the only Italian restaurant in town that serves Stromboli with meat, vegetables, and cheese the way I can get it standard there. Beyond the food, however, the best part about going to Mario's is the people. The owners and their children make us feel like part of their family and accommodate all of our requests without hesitation. I enthusiastically recommend Mario's to everyone!

Had the seafood lasagna last night, and as usual, it was the best. This place has the best Italian menu in town.

went there with the family this past Sunday. Service was good, and there sauces on the pastas where really good. My son had Alfredo, I had a white sauce ( just butter and garlic type) and and my wife and mother had marinara. Very tasty and good consistancy, not to thick, not to thin. portions are good as well. my two reasons for only three stars is the layer of dust on all the hanging lights above tables, the fact that we had to pay at the counter after our meal ( very tacky for a sit down restaurant, I mean this is not Denny's) and finaly the only food that I can complain on. The bruscetta was nothing more than garlic bread with cheese and about 3 cherry tomatoes thrown on top. not only was it very odd looking and not in any way bruscetta it was not good. it really tasted like just buttered bread with cheese. No other flavor unless it was one of the three bites with tomato. that being said I will return, and would recommend a visit. one last thing. I read a lot of people saying how good there bread was and I do not agree. very chewy and tasted like yeast. but I guess to each his own

Traveling to corvettes at carlisle last week me and my son were staying in chambersburgh for the night. We wanted to go to a local restaurant and Mario's was the choice. Son had the Scallops and linguine and I had the pizza. First the portion of scallops and linguine were very generous and the taste was awesome. The scallops were fresh and succulent. The pizza was new York style and quite possibly the best I have ever tasted. I will return next year and try other things on the menu. I would highly recommend.

This place is an unbelievable value, and a top-notch option for travelers sick of chain restaurants. It's nothing fancy - don't expect high-end furnishings or candle-light dinners; however, the food is the star here. Our party of 3 tried everything from their homemade spicy crab soup to traditional pasta dishes, and everything was terrific. Salads came with delicious dressings made from scratch, bread was tasty, the red sauce great as well. Drink prices remarkably inexpensive, and service fine. Leave the chain restaurants and their "everything looks and tastes exactly alike whether you're in Baltimore or Seattle" menus behind, and give this place a shot.

On our third night in Chambersburg, where we stayed while we visited Gettysburg, my wife and I decided to try Mario's. We usually avoid Italian restaurants but today we made a wise decision. My wife ordered from the regular menu and I went with the Chef's special. They were both "no miss" choices. The food was very well prepared and the service was excellent. The fresh bread was to die for and seconds was graciously provided. The price was very reasonable and we felt right on including a glass of Chianti for me (my wife while not a teetotaller, often prefers water with dinner). We also ordered a take-out pizza for lunch on our way back home to Ontario. We recommend Mario's with no hesitation. We will visit again.
(5)Bill V.
Wonderful Italian including lots of seafood, pasta, salads, and pizza too. Family owned for 25 years, Mario, himself came around and greeted travelers like us and local friends. We had scallops with pasta, and chicken cacciatore. Prompt and friendly service. Stay away from chain restaurants. Go to Mario's for friendly family food.
(5)Missy K.
Good food. The bread tastes homemade, the spicy crab soup is my favorite, and I love their salads. The food is reasonably priced. I gave it a 3 stars because the lobster was aweful and service is inconsistent. I still think it is an okay place to go!
(3)Len K.
Absolutely fantastic all around. Always stop here when TDY

A Mom and Pop style Italian restaurant. Fast and friendly service and a very comprehensive menu. Great value priced lunch menu with nice sized portions.
(5)Christine C.
Great food! I would come here again. The bread was good and so was the salad.
(5)Carlos V.
Simple, good price, awesome food! The waiter was very friendly, did I mention the good was awesome? Real Italian food!
(5)Christina B.
Marios is a good middle of the road Italian restaurant. There is nothing fancy about this place but the food is good and the price is hard to beat. I generally order the Seafood Mario-but ask for the garlic sauce instead of their red sauce, trust me on this. The crushed pepper flakes with the olive oil and seafood is delicious. I also recommend their turkey and cheese sub which is my mom's favorite. It is served on their fresh, warm herb bread. They also have a lunch special on a large selection of their pasta meals that is very popular.
(4)Tim H.
I live in Philly, where hoagies and cheesesteaks reign. When I'm back home, though, Mario's it is. You see, the bread makes the hoagie in Philly, and my lady friend and I agree that Mario's has a good thing going with the bread they use. Their veggie sub is my favorite, and I used to look forward to coming home from college to find half of one tucked in some foil in the fridge. Mmm, if I hadn't just eaten so many of mom's chocolate chip cookies, I'd go get one right now.
