Meh. I have been there before for sushi, and it was so-so. A coworker had her 40th birthday party scheduled for there, and attempting to set a reservation for 14 people was a fiasco from the beginning. She called to make a reservation for 6:30pm, and was advised that parties over 12 persons could only schedule for 4:30pm or 7:30pm. She was not happy, but as most of us worked that day, she set it for 7:30pm. Long story short, they called back and pushed the reservation back to 8pm just a couple days prior to the day. When we arrived (the entire party was there by 7:30pm or so) we were kept waiting until 8pm, although the table we were seated at was empty well before 7:30pm. When we sat, the cooking surface on my side of the table was dirty. Really dirty... enough the cook had to scrap burnt on crud off of it, and cooked our fried rice on top of the burnt crud. I ordered sushi as an appetizer, a spicy yellowtail roll. The roll was poorly constructed and overly mayonnaised and the fish dropped through the roll. It was bland. Another diner ordered a specialty roll, and it was mushy, bland, deep fried mess. So we ordered our Hibachi dishes. Two words. Bland and flavorless. Their ginger dressing and yum yum is fantastic, but that is all I can give them. Service was simply adequate, although at the end the waitstaff went the extra mile in cutting and serving the ice cream cake. I have no plans to return.... there are too many wonderful sushi and hibachi places within a reasonable driving distance of Aki.

yes I am giving a hibachi place five stars normaly I wouldn't do that but the sushi is equally as good the only slight downside is this place is very pricy but you are paying for get food and service

Been here a number of times. Each time we left impressed. Time to write a review. Best sushi in Chambersburg not that they have much competition. Very Fresh each time. Highly recommend this place. Our new favorite in this area right off I 81.

At the time of this review, I've only been here once. The food was intense. By that, I mean that my tongue has never been hugged by steak hibachi so hard ever. The wait staff was pleasant enough, and the service was lightning quick. However, they were verging on pushy and annoying when they would try to take a plate or ask if we were done, or give us the bill too soon. Like, and this food is the sustenance on kings, LET US EAT IT!!!!

Recently miserably failed a health inspector test, literally the inspector had to ask people to leave then and there. Good food but I would question the cleanliness of the kitchen.

Went recently for a family gathering and we all sat at a grill. The portions were large, food was well flavored, and service was very good. I was hesitant to go back because I tried them when they first opened and did not enjoy the food at all. I'll go back now that I have seen significant improvement.

I never had a bad meal... Their yum yum sauce is addicting, and everything is delicately seasoned and absolutely delicious. The service is efficiant, polite, and attentive. I love everything about this place and often order their salad dressing and yum yum sauce for home!

the only plus about this place was the Japanese beer selection. The food was nothing to write home about, average strip mall asion fusion food. The sushi was just mehh as well. I wasn't into the waitresses staring at me while I ate...made me uncomfortable. Food was not terrible but there are better options 5 minutes down the road.

Every time is a good time at Aki!! I love eating here and always enjoy the sushi. I get the basics. California roll, spicy shrimp and spicy crab. Delicious!!!!

Salmon Teriyaki and fantastic roll, both quite nicely prepared. Especially the salmon which was not over sauced or sweet.

As you read this review keep in mind that this place is in a strip mall in Chambersburg, PA and not Los Angeles or some major city. With that said, this place can hang with any place I have ever eaten sushi at and that is saying a lot. We had a party of eight and all just had sushi. Japanese beers were in the small bottles and super cold. I had the 214 roll, the tiger eye roll, and some surf clam and squid nigiri sushi. It was super fresh, wonderfully presented, and tasted great. The service was top notch and it was a great experience overall. Some of the best sushi I have ever had!

Sushi was extremely good. Hibachi was very good too. Portions were huge and service was great .

Great fun for hibachi. Always enjoy going. I can't speak to the rest of their menu, though. All hibachi meats and seafood are good, as we as hibachi vegetarian. I particularly like the noodles rather than the rice, but the rice is also great. The chefs entertainment skills vary, but it is always a good time.

I've been here many times. It's always been very good. I would highly recommend the hibachi.

I love the hibachi here! Especially the filet. My husband enjoys the sushi. Sunday brunch is a good value. 2 meat hibachi for $15.95, all you can eat sushi for $16.95. Service can be a little slow on the sushi refills. Will definitely be back!

The lighting is blue. It's romantic. The sushi is fresh and good. They have authentic Japanese Green Tea and White Grape juice with aloe. They also have a large variety of sashimi and a few really unique rolls.

Finally got another chance to eat there this past weekend. Thankfully, this time I went with my entire family and we ordered many different items off the menu. We had 5 sushi rolls (Boston, Yellowtail, Spider, Shrimp Tempura, and Eel Avocado), 3 hibachi dinners, and a teriyaki salmon dinner to share among 8 of us. The portions are big enough that we were all pretty full. Everything was delicious. The sushi was very fresh and the presentation is just sublime. The hibachi dinners were cooked just right: meat not over/undercooked, veggies and fried rice were tasty. The salmon teriyaki was a surprise. It's served on a sizzing plate and it's oh-so-delicious. The soups were served piping hot and it's not just water and MSG with some mushrooms and scallions like some places. Their ginger dressing on the salad is still my favorite out of all the places I've eaten. Oh and I figured out that the white dipping sauce is called yum yum sauce and it's truly worthy of it's name. The prices for most items are not too expensive, except for nigiri sushi (they are overpriced for how much fish you get in most places anyway). I was a bit shocked that Blue Fin Toro is $6 a piece (and that they have Blue Fin Toro in the first place). Still, I stand by my opinion that the prices are still reasonable for the quality of food. Having been to dozens of Japanese restaurants around the country (PA, NY, NJ, MD, VA, GA, WA, KY, DC..) Aki remains to be one of the best Japanese restaurant that I have ever been to. Worthy of all 5 star! ... and I miss you already.

Considering it's one of the only Japanese Steakhouses in the area I guess it's the best! It's nothing spectacular compared to some of the places I've eaten at in the Philadelphia area, but it does the job.

This was our favorite chambersburg restaurant, but recently we went and our waiter was extremely rude and not well groomed. I think we're finished with aki and will now stick with other restaurants and our new favorite--flannagan's pub!

Can't comment about the Hibachi or the steak but when I am in town for work and am craving sushi, it's a great place to stop. Especially when there aren't many options for sushi in this area. But even with the limited availability, the sushi at Aki is better than average. I have been there twice and was not disappointed either time. I had the Spring Jamie Roll and the Goyza as an appetizer. The Jamie roll was full of meat and was absolutely delicious. I have had better sushi but it is definitely far above my expectations, and for $11 I am all about it. Looking forward to my next trip to Central PA.... Well as much as one can look forward to that.

Took my boyfriend here for one of his bday dinners! First timers and we really enjoyed ourselves. We both ordered hibachi meals and sat around the grill, which I always enjoy-esp when the flying egg hits me in the face! :). All my fault! We thought the food was very delicious and a huge amount. Took half of it home and had another dinner all set. I def plan to visit again to try out their sushi sometime soon.

Fresh sushi and a nice array of rolls. My personal favorites are the Thai Spicy Roll and Snow Roll. I miss the BYOB aspect, but on the bright side, Aki now carries a decent selection of reasonably-priced Asian beers. Will go back again...and again...and again! As of this week, I put Aki above Ginger House and Ping's (downtown Chambersburg location).

Aki is my new favorite restaurant in Chambersburg! Shoved in at the very end of an otherwise unremarkable plaza (Quiznos, mattress stores, Fuddruckers, etc), Aki is a departure from the usual Chambersburg eatery. Instead of being a corporate chain or a "neighborhood institution," Aki is unique and actually quite good. My favorite part of eating at Aki is the service. I have never had to wait for a refill or request to be fulfilled. In fact, I usually don't know who my server is because all the servers watch all the tables. My first refill may come from Jane while Tom scoops up my next refill. (Yes, the servers are named Tom and Jane. I don't think those are anyone's legal names, but it's not my choice.) Several times, I get asked about refills while my glass is away being refilled because all the servers are zealous and keep busy. The hibachi table is always a good show; Chef Sam is a fan favorite, but all of the chefs put up a good show. Two items of note: if you order the vegetable hibachi, shrimp "appetizer" is not included. (This is A+ because most people ordering the vegetable only hibachi are vegetarians.) And no extra charge for fried rice with your hibachi dinner! (Most hibachi restaurants in the area charge extra for fried rice instead of plain rice with your dinner.) Aki has extremely reasonable prices for the area and the service they are providing. I've also found that the table service (ie, not at the hibachia tables) is excellent. I love getting a table with a friend and eating from the sushi bar. Their wide rage of vegetarian sushi makes me crave bit-size bits of rice, avocado, and any number of creative combinations! (Sunshine roll, anyone?) Now I don't have to bother going to Hagerstown for sub-par hibachi when I can get excellent hibachi and sushi here in Chambersburg! This location is a BYOB location, with wine being the most common beverage.

Definitely a go-to spot while you're in South Central PA. Freshest sashimi and sushi in town. Their specials are usually on point, especially their rock shrimp. Best Sushi iand raw fish Ive tasted on the east coast. 6 stars.

Good sushi! For American sushi this stuff is good. Prices at any place like this aren't cheap, but it wasn't too bad here. Servers are nice and move quickly. The ambiance of the place was also comfortable and cool. There is a hibachi, a sushi bar, and a few dining areas. All are great. I have an enjoyable time, drank some tasty warm Sake and some quality sushi.

Been to Aki a number of times, if you've been to a hibachi / japanese grill, there isn't much that differentiates this place from the rest. The location is new so the ambiance of the restaurant is new and refreshing. The staff here is a major plus, your drink will probably never reach the middle of the glass without receiving a refill. They do give their customers a lot of attention. I would say the cost would be on the higher side of other hibachi grills in the Cumberland valley; however, their food quality and quantity is good! I also appreciate their selection of sushi, they generally have a list of "sushi specials" that generally offers unique rolls that I haven't seen at competing grills. Overall, I enjoy my meals here, the taste and quality is consistent and plentiful, while the price is a but higher, it is competitive and that won't stop me from going back!

While heading south on 81 it was dinner time. Wife was thinking about steak...I was thinking about getting out of the car. Noticed the word Sushi in a little shopping plaza which made us happy. Short wait for a table, busy little place with Hibachi tables and decent sized dining room. Sushi bar look great. Nice colors in the fish. Ordered 3 "standard" rolls and one "special" roll. Can't remember name of the special roll, but it was not very exciting. Standard rolls were wonderful. Fresh tuna and the unagi was warm and melted in your mouth. Nice atmosphere, fast service, and sushi! Works for me! So take a break from fighting the I-81 beast and eat some Sushi!

A very enjoyable meal, wait staff was courteous and prompt with refills on drinks and taking away empty plates. Slightly inflated prices, but hey its Hibachi, so you in a sense are paying for the entertainment as well as the food. 1 Chicken & 1 Steak & Chicken hibachi dinner with waters came out to $41 + tip. A pleasant experience, I'd go again

Although Chambersburg really doesn't have many options (maybe this is all) as far as asian food, this place was actually incredibly good. I went here in Aug 2009 with coworkers. We did hibachi. Service was excellent and food was amazing.

4 of us ate at Aki 2 nights ago and had a terrific meal and service experience. We arrived as the evening was winding down (9 ish) and were graciously provided with a table and beverages. We were caught empty handed at this BYOB, but the hostess suggested complementary sake--perfect. The sushi and sushimi were well prepared, fresh, and generous portions. The broiled sea bass I was told was fantastic. We had 2 servers who were attentive but not imposing. Thank you for a memorable evening.

First off, no liquor/alcohol license. While you can BYOB, I think that's pretty lousy, though I understand it can be very difficult and expensive to procure a new liquor license in PA...surely not entirely their fault. I've been to many Hibachi-style Japanese steakhouses all over the US, and have had Sushi in many restaurants, some great, some lousy. Ironically, VERY few Japanese restaurants are owned by Japanese people; nearly all of them are either Korean- or Chinese-owned. There's a point to me saying this..more to come. So, for a new place, I thought Aki would be nice looking. Rather, it was oddly laid-out, rooms/areas are segmented and broken up in an unattractive way...the place actually looked a bit old...strange for being "New!" We found our server, a younger Chinese woman, to be VERY lackluster. While one generally only interacts with the "server" at the beginning to order food & drink, and for refills/sushi drop-offs, she was very impersonal, a trait which is unfortunately rather common for Chinese restaurant workers; a cultural barrier that seems hard to overcome for many (even when going to traditional Chinese restaurants). Be it that she was shy or insecure about her English-language skills, she was very aloof and almost rude. Now, our Hibachi chef was a nice guy, engaging, and entertained us well - after all, part of what you pay for is the experience and the showmanship of your grill-cook/chef. Food portions are downright humongous, though the flavor of the food is a bit on the weak side. Kids were happy with Teriyaki steak, but my wife and I, who always split a dish, felt our sharing provided ample food, but the taste was of $30 seafood combo (lobster, shrimp & scallops) left something to be desired. My wife & I also always order Sushi. While the Sushi was very good, the Sushi prices are ASTRONOMICAL for Chambersburg...another bigt reason why we won't be back! If this were downtown Washington, DC, the pricing might make sense, but give me a break! ($3.00 for one small piece of Tuna Nigiri....really?) In closing, we're not going back. Rather, we will continue to patronize our FAVORITE Japanese restaurant in - it's called "Nikko" and is located on Wesel Blvd in Hagerstown, MD. The decor and service are fantastic, and the food (while a bit smaller in portion sizes) is VERY good. Even though this place is also Chinese-owned, you can tell they make a point to engage their guests and give you a special dining experience...something that "Aki" missed by a long-shot! Happy Dining!

I was in Chambersburg on business and I used Yelp to help me find someplace to eat dinner. Aki had positive reviews and I the reviews were accurate. The only disappointment I had was that they won't let customers eating alone sit at the hibachi tables. You have to sit at a booth and your meal gets prepared in the kitchen, which takes away the fun of having a chef cook in front of you. The food was great though! The hibachi was flavored well and the Unagi (eel) sushi that I had was the best I've ever had. I would definitely recommend Aki.
