I highly recommend eating at the White Elephant Thai Cuisine restaruant in Carlisle. The food is great, the atmosphere is awesome, and the service is excellent!!! The food is very tasty and healthy. The portions are a good size and the cost is very affordable. I had a seafood dish that was amazing!!! I also had the Jasmine soup and Spring rolls. They were amazing as well! I am looking forward to trying dessert. I would suggest taking a date to this restaurant because the atmosphere is perfect. The best part of this restaurant is Joy. She is extremely friendly and knowledgable. She supplies great customer service and personally prepared me my meal. I would definitely come back to her restaurant. She is always coming up with great new ideas. I love the happy hour on Saturdays. There is also entertainment which is great!!! I can't wait to try one of those new drinks. White Elephant definitely is the best Thai food I have ever had in my life. I love this place!!! Tell all your friends and family about it! I promise you a great experience and amazing food! Make sure you say hi to Joy and tell her how much you like her restaurant. Enjoy you meal!!!

Excellent food! The decor is also very tastefully done. I jiggly recommend this place.

We had a pad Thai & an eggplant stir fry. The pad Thai was nothing out of the ordinary- they did give quality seafood in generous portions to justify the high price, but I wouldn't say it tastes exceptional. The eggplant stir fry was pleasant, but really nothing that spectacular as well. Husband also had a Tom yam soup but I felt it lacked the oomph of lemongrass & other vegetables. Perhaps what struck me most was when brought to a dimly lit table & I hinted that I didn't quite like it, the server just flatly said that the booth table I preferred wasn't ready & still had to be cleaned. I consented at first to taking the dimly lit table but on second thoughts found it really too dim & too small for all the things I'd brought along for my toddler. So I had to talk to the (probably the boss?) lady manager & asked if i could have the booth table, & that I could wait, not an issue. She agreed. I thought it would be considered better service if they had told me earlier on that they could give me the booth table, just that I had to wait a bit, and it was literally 10 seconds. The lady boss did make an effort to be friendly & make a bit of conversation, but sorry I somehow felt it was just quite insincere. She even asked us to come back the next day & in my heart I was just thinking 'no way'. Perhaps I was just getting bad vibes.

Great food. I love Tom Yum and this was some of the best. Mellow atmosphere and kind people. Thai iced tea is refreshing and delicious. This place is authentic and seems to keep to traditional roots. Highly recommended.

Had the Evil Jungle Princess with brown rice! Excellent! Nice and quiet atmosphere!

My friend and I went to eat at the White Elephant because we had a Restaurant.com coupon. The food was absolutely delicious! The owner, Joy, came out and introduced herself to us and was interested in making sure that we had a good experience while there. Joy definitely cooks from her heart and does not want anyone to leave unless they are totally satisfied. The waiters/waitresses were very attentive and gave suggestions to any questions that we had related to the food choices. I will definitely be recommending White Elephant Thai Cuisine to all my friends!!

I got the green curry extra spicy with pork and also of course freaking thai tea!!!!!!! There was definitely something missing from my curry and I couldn't put my finger on it.... I'll probably come back to try the fried rice instead since it looked waaay better The service was pretty good and very attentive and you can tell they care. The prices were really high too and I'm guessing it must be because the ingredients are hard to get where it is and there's not that many thai places... I'll definitely be back for a second go!

Went back again for restaurant week and had 3 courses for $15. You have to ask for the restaurant week special menu which was not a good start, it was supposed to be for dinner but waitress said it could be served at lunch. The restaurant is dark and needs some light, but unlike some restaurants you can have a conversation with people at your table. The food is really excellent and served hot. Fresh ingredients, with lots of taste. The Chicken dish I had a red pepper but i would have like it hotter with two or three red peppers. Service is quick, too quick. I did not like that my main course was brought to the table before I finished my starter. The cold Thai tea is delicious. The regular menu is large. I like that they have duck as very few places serve duck. I like this place, the fcooking is good and I will be back.

My Husband and I wanted to try something out of our norm. Saturday afternoon we went to the 'White Elephant', the overall experience left me a bit disappointed. I ordered the 'Hippaparn' and my Husband ordered a Pad Thai dish. From the time we ordered to the time we were served it was about five minutes or less. Which was great! However, in between that time, I heard the distinct sound of a microwave beep. I was immediately turned off by the idea that I was going to eat a frozen lunch. Nonetheless, I was optimistic and didn't want to be biased. The Hippaparn was okay. My shrimp was overcooked and the chicken lacked flavor. The ginger sauce was alright. The Pad Thai my Husband ordered was nothing spectacular. His noodles were a bit overcooked. The peanut sauce wasn't too bad. For the amount of money we were paying I wish we were being served fresh food and not a "TV Dinner". I don't think I'll revisit this restaurant.

With nearly 70 items on the menu plus weekend specials and desserts, you can dine here every day and not get bored. There are frequent additions to the menu which makes it worth dining here frequently. The location is also a plus. It's downtown and there is ample parking in the back. After (or before) dining, you can walk around Carlisle and see some of the local attractions. My favorites are the Garlic Scallop Weekend Special and the Coconut Soup. The staff is very friendly and eager to answer any questions. It's BYOB, but they have a very interesting non-alcoholic drink selection unlike any Thai restaurant I've been to.

This place is a hidden Gem! After discovering Thai food several years ago, it quickly became a favorite of mine. I would usually go to Bangkok Wok in Mechanicsburg and I was convinced that no place could compare. This is until I found White Elephant. I have my go-to menu items....Tom Yum soup and Pad Thai. I tried both of these on my first visit. What is this? No.... It couldn't be! BOTH were the best I've ever had! Whaaaaat?! Yes. On our most recent visit I was feeling a tad adventurous and we tried the Chu Chee Duck. There are no words to describe how delicious this curry dish was. Unreal. We also got the Pad Thai again. These two dishes paired together made the perfect meal. Also, the service was untouchable. Every employee was kind and all had smiles on their faces. Our drink glasses never even got half empty before being refilled. Dishes were explained in detail. Food was made and served quickly. My girlfriend has a gluten allergy and they made sure that our dishes were made gluten free. That is huge for us. As the meal was winding down, the owner came out and said hello and made sure we were satisfied with our meal. She was so kind and personable! She recommended a frozen mango drink that I swear is one of the best meal closers on the planet. I LOVE this place and I will continue to go back and enjoy this amazing place. Notice I have never written a review before? Yeah, it's so good that I just couldn't keep quiet! You must try it if you haven't already! I will post a few pics. They are of mostly empty dishes because it smelled so good upon arrival that we couldn't wait to dive in lol. As you can see we nearly licked the plate clean haha.

Wow! Chanced upon the White Elephant after a recommendation from our hotel, and was thrilled to feast on authentic, delicious Thai food! I love Thai food, and the mango sticky rice was better than I remember it being in Thailand! We also had the garlic mussels, and then ordered a bowl of rice to sop up the broth because it was so good. Jasmin soup was also delicious. Ordered some papaya salad to take with us on the rest of our trip tomorrow because I don't know when I'll find Thai food this good again! I will be making sure to stop at the White Elephant on all future drives home from NC to NY!
(5)Stacy M.
Clean, fresh flavors, you can tell the curries are homemade and not jars. The decor is cute and themed well to the name White Elephant. Staff are very nice and the food is excellent!!!!! Can't wait to go back.
(5)Bill H.
Crispy Spring rolls are light and delicious. Evil Jungle Princess was spicy as advertised but not overdone. Interesting sauce was not overly sweet or heavy as in some Thai dishes. 6 large shrimp in the dish were nicely cooked. Friendly, prompt service.
(4)Kenneth W.
The food was outstanding, the service was excellent - we had the duck and the seafood platter - enjoyed -
(4)Neil P.
Great dishes with a variety of ingredients. Perfect for those that enjoy something spicy and Asian. Everything here is good. Basil chicken is my favorite. Ask for extra spicy if you can tolerate it.
(5)Andrew D.
Wow! Service was great, food was a perfect size for lunch. The sweet and sour sauce was delicious. I had the basil, onion, garlic dish with chicken. The vegetables were crisp and the sauce was awesome. My wife had the green curry and it was smokn spicy...but tolerable. Waiters were freindly and provided great service. Will go again.
(4)Robert W.
Rating would have been low as the start of our visit was a loooong 10 minute wait for water and a bottle opener for our delicious wine. Once we got the ball rolling the staff was very courteous. They had vegetarian options for nearly everything. Extremely spicy and for the first time we got fresh peppers and they were very hot. We got a appetizer on the house for the wait and that got the 4 star. 5th for super spicy! Thai should be hot and this place is a winner!!!
(5)Jill A.
If you suffer fools gladly, this is the spot for you. Silly wait staff that lacked manners and knowledge of the menu, flavorless food, and cold coffee were some of the low lights. We thought that we were on a hidden camera show! Unfortunately, if you're looking for tasty Thai and quality service, you won't find it in Carlisle.
(2)Christine C.
What a great find! The food was amazing (coconut shrimp with a great dipping sauce, mango shrimp and Chu Chee Duck! So good!) The staff was so nice, even though we showed up 1/2 hour before closing. I can't wait to come back and try something new! Thank you for a great date night!
(5)Chuck K.
Very courteous staff, The food was delicious! The waiter gave me extra thai chili's on the side which was great. Highly recommend the garlic mussels. Will definitely come back
(5)Megan C.
The curry didn't have the richness and it had hardly any flavor and the peanut sauce didn't either. The service was good but didn't make up for the food.
(2)Pamela R.
We've been back a few times since my original review, each time enjoying the lunch buffet. It's good that the dishes are varied somewhat each time, and the staff keeps an eye of when each pan needs to be replenished. However we were disappointed to hear that the buffet will apparently just be on Fridays. I guess it wasn't profitable to keep refilling all that food every day. Earlier this week ( 8/12/14) we went for dinner. Some notable changes from previous visits: first, the restaurant was full. At lunch, it's been at most half full, so this was nice to see. Second, service was much improved, I'd say excellent. They have hired 1-2 additional servers, and the efficient friendly service was much appreciated. Third, since we ordered from the menu we tried a few new dishes. Mussaman curry was divine. Another reviewer mentioned the quantity of sauce.....mmmmm, I think I could live on that sauce. We also got BBQ beef. It was ok, and the dipping sauce good, but I don't know if we would order it again. Spring rolls were non greasy and had good flavor, much better than Chinese restaurant egg rolls. We will definitely be going back.
(5)Elena S.
I'll admit, I am not an adventurous eater. That's why 50% of the time when I go to a Thai place I order something I know I'm going to like: Pad Thai. So I've had lots of Pad Thai over the years in many Thai restaurants in New York and CT. The Pad Thai at the White Elephant has got to be one of the worst I've had so far. There were no bean sprouts, hardly any peanuts, no lime to drizzle over, but the worst thing of all was the sauce: it tasted like a sweet tomato sauce! What?! My partner had Massaman curry that was just ok. The service was good even though the place was pretty full when we came.
(2)Marcia L.
Fantastic food! Beautiful presentation. Waitress was great & gave good recommendations. The crazy jungle princess was delish as well as the drunken noodles and chicken satay! I look forward to going back!
(5)Roxanne L.
Delicious food and super friendly staff. One of the few green curries I've gotten at a Thai restaurant that was full of veggies and tofu and not just bell peppers. When we asked for more spice, they actually brought fresh thai chilies chopped up and not some nasty vinegar bomb cheap sauce. Totally awesome- highly recommend!
(5)William H.
Excellent lunch! Thank you! Loved the ginger Thai chicken and green tea ! The tapioca was a great finish.
(5)J H.
Took a party of 23 to the white elephant last night. We were given a private room that was set and ready when we arrived. The service was awesome and the food was excellent. The owner even offered and picked up a birthday cake for us before our reservation. If you have a large private party definitely the place to go. Byob. And if you like Thai food it is a must!!
(5)Louise K.
This place is FANTASTIC! We came in for dinner after checking out our options on Yelp, and loved our meal and the service. Great place!
(5)Jae. D.
The owners are spectacular here. Wonderful flavors in the food. Great lunch specials!
(5)Caleb S.
Stopped here for lunch on our way to Vermont, based on the yelp reviews. Staff was excellent, the owner greeted us and gave recommendations when asked. We ordered the drunken noodles and pad thai based on her recommendation and our 4 year old had plain rice noodles and chicken satay. Everything was delicious and extremely fast. This was the perfect start to a long road trip! Thank you!
(5)Bobby W.
Excellent Pad See Yew! We ordered spring rolls and fried rolls, both were fantastic with the sauces that accompany them. I tried the chicken and beef pad see yew and was highly satisfied. Finished with a delicious sea salt caramel gelato tart. To top it off, the service was outstanding for our group of 7. Would recommend to any friend traveling to Carlisle. BYOB, just so you know!
(5)Zackary N.
Best service of my life ever!!! OMG you have to go there right now !! Go check it out ^.^
(5)Dan A.
This was, by far, the worst experience in a restaurant I've ever had. I took my wife here for Valentine's Day because she loves Thai, and I used to go here before it changed hands and loved it. Tonight was different. The staff seemed completely clueless as to what was going on. It took 30 minutes for our order to be taken after we were seated and another 30 for the food to arrive. The wait staff resorted to just walking around the room asking each table if what they had was your food until they found the right one. When we got it, I'm not lying when I say it was inedible. My thai "noodle" dish was literally spaghetti noodles and my wife's pad Thai tasted like pure brown sugar with some soy sauce mixed in. We will never be back, just go up the street to isse noodle or helenas for crepes, which is where we ended up.
(1)D H.
GF friendly. Good food. Very easy gluten free menu choices. Great green tea. Really liked the decor, my grandmother was fond of elephants. Will definitely go back to this place.
(4)Kyra P.
I have had so many dishes here that I don't even know which one is my favorite - they are all wonderful. White Elephant is a beautiful restaurant and the staff is very attentive and friendly. The food is much healthier and less greasy and heavy than some other Thai restaurants in the area. I highly recommend White Elephant!
(5)Pamuk P.
Awesome place to go. ..food was excellent. .nice and quiet and so cleaned. .love to be there everyday. Papaya salad is very great taste...
(5)Mark T.
OK food but the service was terrible. This is the 2nd time we've visited. The food was consistent. Neither the best Thai food we've had, but not and either. My daughter's Pad That was OK. I've certainly seen much better. My wife's Ginger Chicken was ok stir fry, although it was the dish I kept borrowing from. My Drunken Noodles not particularly spicy (bland) and there was a runny liquid at the bottom of the plate. However, the food was OK but the service was poor. We sat down at 6:30 and places our order soon afterwards. It took nearly 45 minutes to receive our soup. We didn't receive our meals until after 8:00. The tables that sat down after us were served and finished their meals before we were served. We only saw our waitress when we ordered and the bill was delivered. We had to complain about the long wait through the water boy who was helpful but said the kitchen was backed up.
(2)Dan W.
Grabbed takeout . Nice flavors but servings were undersized and real light on meat.
(2)Rebekah S.
This is one of the best Thai restaurants in the area. The food is always fresh and the waiters are always friendly. Ask them for all their hot sauces! And, the spring rolls are to die for.

White Elephant, formerly Ami's Thai, is a welcome addition to the Carlisle Cuisine scene. Mom & I headed there yesterday for a belated Mothers' Day treat. I enjoyed one of their "lunch boxes" (dine-in only) which contained a generous portion of entree (I chose Pad Thai) plus a crispy fried egg roll, dumpling, green salad with ginger dressing, and a few pieces of fresh fruit for dessert. The chicken pad thai is every bit as delicious as the original Ami's, which was by far my favorite in the entire South Central PA area. It featured a generous smothering of rich brown sauce, carrots, chicken, and lots of crushed peanuts. The samplings accompanying the entree in the "lunch box" made the meal well rounded, fun, and far more interesting with varying tastes and textures. My Mom ordered the Massaman curry, which boasted chicken & veggies swimming in a rich peanutty sauce with a delicate coconut accent. Probably more sauce than needed, but so tasty that you were happy for a large scoop of rice to soak it up. Can't wait to return & try something new, though it'll be hard to turn down any chance to enjoy their awesome pad thai. May even try the buffet, as there were a lot of diners enjoying that lunch option while we were there. I'll echo my fellow reviewers with praise for the restaurant renovations and more diverse menu. Great service, too!

White Elephant is the new name for what used to be Amy's Thai. We stopped by recently and were surprised to find that the familiar old triangle sign was gone out front, replaced by the White Elephant logo. The interior has also been renovated. Most noticeably, the "bar" area has been moved and the industrial buffet table has been removed. The place looks much spiffier, but what surprised us most was how amazing the food is! We met the owner/cook when we entered, and it's apparently still run by Amy (good news!). The menu has been altered but many of the traditional faves are still there, along with some amazing new offerings. We were blown away by the Evil Jungle Princess dish, as well as the coconut soup. The peanut sauce on the chicken satay is still the best. The new ambience just heightens the impact of the food, which is just stellar. We are SO glad we gave White Elephant a try! While I'm sure there are some dishes they don't do as well as the ones we ordered ('cause that's just human nature), we were just floored by how great the food was. Highly recommend!
(5)Ruth S.
This Thai restaurant was FANTASTIC!! Exceeded my expectations. We did the family style and their was SO much food and it was incredibly delicious!! We were not disappointed!! We will definitely be returning again! I would highly recommend giving this restaurant a try!
(5)John T.
This is a great place. The food is authentic and the owner truly loves cooking and you can taste it in the food. The service is great and the prices are reasonable. We LOVE the Evil Jungle Princess it is fantastic. My wife and I love this place. We eat there as much as we can.
(5)Andrea B.
We ate dinner at The White Elephant when we stopped in Carlisle on the way from Aiken NC to Charlotte VT. We ordered the Tom Yum soup and Drunken Noodles and another ginger chicken entree (can't remember the name). All three dishes were delicious but we particularly loved the Drunken Noodle so much we wanted another noodle dish. Our waiter recommended a wonderful dish with glass noodles. The owner brought us thai iced tea that was delicious! The service was excellent - very friendly and fast. Highly recommend and will definately come back when we are in Carlisle again.
(5)Jason B.
It's rare that I have something positive to say about service anywhere. Generally, the best service is fast and just doesn't get in the way. Our server and the owner/cook/manager were much more attentive than we are used to. We asked about a dish they served at the Taste of Carlisle that had not made in on the menu. Our waitress went back and had the chef put something together just for the four of us. It was a fruit and vegetable salad in a spicy orange sauce with cilantro. It was so delicious and they even made a non-pineapple version for my wife who is allergic. Don't worry. The service isn't the only thing to talk about at White Elephant. I tried the Thai spaghetti with shrimp and it was delicious. The corn cakes made a perfect appetizer after the spicy salad made just for us. Coconut ice cream at the end was a great closer. Everyone at the table was also very happy that spicy really means spicy. One of the Chinese restaurants we get food from just doesn't get it. Maybe other people are just wimpier than my clan, but at most places around Carlisle, spicy is pretty lame. At White Elephant, spicy had our ears popping. Truly awesome. I have a feeling that I will be spending a lot of money at White Elephant, since my wife who works downtown found out they now deliver. We had such a rotten time at Amy's, but White Elephant feels like eating with a family. Heartily recommend it.
(5)Britt S.
I dined last night and have a lot to tell you! Wonderful staff and chef who came to our table several times. We had the corn cakes appetizer, which I recommend. Ask the server about the fruit salad - it isn't on the menu, but worth the short wait. It has a sweet and piquant sauce with a hint of spicy curry, and I loved the cilantro on it. My entree was the Thai Ginger - made three star spicy. It was hot! I'm from Texas and very used to jalapeño and Serrano peppers... The coconut ice cream with fruit syrup was the perfect end. A friend had the shrimp version of the Evil Jungle Princess- large portion of fabulous shrimp, good combo of veggies, and rice. I highly recommend this restaurant!!
(5)Cathy G.
The food is fabulous! Traveling thru the Harrisburg area and thanks to Yelp, we found this Thai haven!! Red curry with seafood was perfect.
(5)Stephanie P.
I used to go to Amy's and I go now that it's White Elephant, and I think it's pretty great! I have only had the Drunken noodles since the changover, and I'm a fan. I ask for extra spicy and that is what I get! The portion sizes are large, and I've never had a bad meal. I have always taken my food to go, so I can't comment on the service. It's not my favorite Thai restaurant in the area - I love BW in Mechanicsburg, but for the Carlisle area - it's my favorite Thai food. I will absolute continue to return! Just realized I reviewed this before, but my opinion hasn't changed!
(4)Liz J.
I have been to almost every Thai restaurant in central PA (I'm obsessed! Haha). I happened upon this place on a whim and was pleasantly surprised! After the mixed reviews on here, I was skeptical. The cold Thai slaw salad (I can't remember the actual name) was amazing! I can't wait to go back again to get it! The pad Thai was very tasty! Great, fresh ingredients. Excellent, authentic flavor. Portions were very generous--I took half home (I am not a light eater!). Will definitely be back.
(5)Mnm C.
Had a fabulous meal and experience at the white elephant! In town for a conference, so decided to do take away. Usually this results in no more than a cursory glance and an annoyed order, clearly indicating my secondary status as a non dining patron. But I had the opposite experience at white elephant. They were so so nice! And to boot, quick, fresh, spiced so nicely and totally yummy!!! The larb gai was fantastically seasoned (a favorite of mine) and the lemongrass chicken was perfect - so good wish I'd ordered two! I am definitely coming back and recommending White Elephant. Couldn't beat the taste, service, price and friendliness. Is it just me or does food just taste so much better when the service and attitude of staff is so wonderful?
(5)MK K.
Love the curry here! So many choices, combos and freshness.. Papaya salad a crispy crunchy cool delight. We started w the veg. dumplings, they were the only weak spot, were prepared w what looked and tasted like frozen pea/carrot/corn combo. Have been here three times now, will definitely return. Service was fine, we had a variety of young people who accommodated omitting peanuts (allergy) and kept the meal on a nice pace. Heads up if you're not familiar w PA beverage laws, WE doesn't serve any alcohol, but you can BYOB.
(4)Gene G.
This was the best service I've ever received. Food was hands down the the best thai around here. Owner is so friendly, and kind. I'm coming here a lot more to get some more. :)
(5)Ann L.
The third time was not a charm. I am looking for authentic fresh Thai. The first time was good I had chicken with spicy Thai Basil, there was a long black hair in my fried vegetable roll - they brought me two new ones. The second lunch was very good - Green Curry and Tom Yum. Third lunch, ugh, I was very sad to see they have started a buffet. I decided to give it a try so that I could sample different items. It was pretty BAD - everything was way too sweet, nothing was spicy, the Tom Yum was terrible compared to the time before. Nothing had those wonderful bright distinctive Thai flavors. Major Thai ing. were lacking - kaffir lime leaves, lemon grass, mint, lime juice and heat. I really hope that we don't end up with another mediocre restaurant. I will give it a try one more time - I LOVE Thai and am not ready to give up. I was very happy that they do not have a TV set up in the dining room as so many Carlisle restaurants do now - whew.
