Came here for a late lunch - place always seems to be hoppin'! The diner itself if pretty clean & relatively modern - the building started as a Shoney's, & then was a Friendly's, before being reincarnated as a diner. The menu was extensive - I tried the Eggs Benedict w/ side of Hash Browns - definitely above average! Service was prompt & our waitress was friendly. Food was a cut above average diner food - my fellow diners were pleased as well. I'll stop in again!

Food, service, parking, ambiance is 5 stars. Order the chicken fried steak--comes with toast, eggs and home fries. It's plentiful--enough to share. My kids always get the pancakes and bacon. I recommend ordering a meal instead of adding it on. I ordered my 2 kids a blueberry pancake each and a side order of bacon. 3 pieces for $2.45 a bit ridiculous. Overall the prices are reasonable. Plentiful parking, no problem with getting a table, service is super friendly and fast. I live in Mechanicsburg and would drive to Carlisle just to eat here when craving diner food. They also have military discount. I think it's 10%. As I was paying, one of the ladies saw my military ID card inside my bag and asked if it was a military ID. I said yes and they punched it in and gave me a discount!

Walnut bottom Diner wAs so much better than a local diner but all the diners were local. When traveling that's always a good sign. Service was fast and friendly. The food was tasty and hot. Loved the chicken cordon blue panini.

Yuck, Yuck, Yuck, Stay away! $25 We will never get back.! Everything is pre-made & processed. Nothing is made in house. The soups are instant and everything else is pretty much either warmed up, fried, or assembled. The service is OK at best. My husband and I had the Greek Gyro, Chicken Finger Wrap, Chicken & Rice Soup, and two ice teas. Place is over priced and not worth the time or energy. Save your money.

Sub par food, it's a diner. Service was ok. But if I want white bread, I'd appreciate it if the server would not tell me that wheat is better. I know that, but I want white. Overall, it's a diner and it's what you'd expect from a diner.

In terms of diners, the Walnut Bottom Dinner has taken Carlisle by storm! After replacing a staple restaurant location (a former Friendly's), they've quickly established themselves as an even better option for families and friends alike. Open 24 hours a day, it's great for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or late night. I eat here at least once a month. My personal favorites are the sausage gravy and biskets AND the Monte Cristo sandwitch. I probably order the sausage gravy the most often and while it's a little pricy for a diner, the food is absolutely delicious.

Great food at a decent price... Friendly staff...will come again when visiting Carlisle

I visit here frequently Most recent visit before posting review was in early April 2015 I freaking love this place! I typically go a couple times a month! Their fried oysters are wonderful. I also love their soups! If they're serving any sort of 'cream of whatever' soup, then I'm getting it because their cream soups are always delicious! Breakfast there is always good and they do my home-fries as I request! Food comes out super fast and service is typically very quick and super friendly. I've only had one issue before with a waitress because she was very slow. You could see her hanging around the back wall chatting it up with the other waitresses, straight up ignoring her tables. I've also only had two issues with food there. I ordered a turkey club and the turkey was extremely dry, tasted old, and had a disturbing amount of gristle in it. The server was awesome and didn't charge us for it. The meat in the Reuben sandwiches often tend to be tough and chewy, but otherwise tasty. I would definitely recommend you check this place out! Great diner food at a good price!

Service: excellent. Responsive, requests fulfilled perfectly. Very fast service. Food: very good diner farem French fries are awesome! Cole slaw was very good, but the typical diner thimbleful. Will definitely be back!

Really great service, fast, and overall a good choice for a random lunch stop.

Parking: Both were alright. We came a little after five on a Saturday and maybe the diner was half full. Their lot is huge so I can't imagine ever having a parking issue here. Service: Very good until the end. Our order was taken promptly, drinks refilled without having to ask and the food came out hot so all in all very good. Now why did I say until the end? That's because we had a table of six and a group of ten place placed around us after which our server disappeared when it came time to deliver the check. Finally after a ten plus minute wait she apologetically gave it to me saying that she was swamped, which indeed she was. Food: The menu is typical diner size (i.e. very large). The problem with that is very few places are able to be all things to all people. Better to do ten things correctly versus doing twenty things half-assed. The lovely wife got the vegetable lasagna which was on special. The accompanying house salad was non-noteworthy and the lasagna itself was according to her very dry like it had been sitting under a heat lamp or left in the oven way too long. I got the chicken parm. The accompanying chicken noodle soup was served dutch style with egg noodles but sadly was super bland. No seasoning-No flavor-No nothing. The chicken parm itself was a good size but the red sauce they use is very, very acidic and harsh to the point of being very difficult to eat. I was hitting the TUMS as soon as I got home as the acid reflux was already in full swing. While the location is super easy to get to right off the highway and the service overall was good enough, the food simply stunk. Between garbage red sauce and food that was dried out with no flavor it was disappointing as this place looks to have potential but I can't imagine that we'll be back.

Sep 9th, 2015. I stopped in for lunch for the first time. I ordered the Broiled Trout, garden salad, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts and decaf coffee. Food was excellent! Best Trout I have had in years. I had to get a box, portions were so big. I will be back.

Just another diner. Came here with a group of coworkers. I liked my food better reheated the next day, but the salmon that was ordered next to me was very good. As with any diner, the cook determines what dishes are good. Be wary of specials that may be made in bulk and sitting out to dry, but don't be afraid from the ones that sound good either. I have only been here once and they are still very new, but I liked them. Its near my coworker's house though and he hasn't said anything bad about it after any of his visits either.

I had breakfast at Walnut Bottom Diner twice while visiting the area. Both meals were solid. I ordered an omelet each time and wasn't disappointed. Portions are quite large and are accompanied with your choice of toast or pancakes. The menu is extensive so you shouldn't get bored easily. Service was also friendly and fast.

My meal was pretty bad. I won't be going back - but my kids were happy;

Becoming a regular here. It's just right down the road from my house. The food is your typical diner quality. I tried the broiled cajun catfish tonight and was pleasantly surprised. It was quite good and there was plenty of it. As my sides I had harvard beets and cole slaw. I've had cajun catfish at Shady Maple Smorgasbord which is about the best around plus it's all you can eat. A real plus! I wish the diner had all you can eat. With all that said the diner came in at a close second.

Awesome food and service. Been here TWICE today!!!!! Both Jamie and Megan were both 5 Star Servers and the food we had was exceptional diner food. My family will be back here again and again and again. Best new place to eat in Carlisle

Let me begin with saying, I love nothing more than diner food. Seeing as how most of it is simply average, my standards aren't usually set for the moon when grabbing a bite to eat at one. Well, let me tell you, Walnut Bottom Diner food is a step above the rest. Not only is the menu extensive, I have never been disappointed with a meal. The waffles, the lasagna, the beef pot pie. . . I could go on and on. Not only that, but the wait staff is so incredibly attentive. I really appreciate little things, like my beverage never being empty and frequent check-ins to ensure all is well. No waitress has failed me yet! Aside from being attentive, I found them to be warm and genuinely friendly. I'm surprised to see the other posts mentioning otherwise, yet considering it is still fairly new, there might have been a few hiccups in the beginning. This is now my go to spot hands down!

The Walnut Bottom Diner opened for business just three days ago. From the moment it opened the parking lot has been full almost constantly. There was no grand opening, no public notice, no hoopla - the customers just arrived as if by magic. All of those cars in the parking lot give a clue to what you will find when you walk in the door. You would never guess that this is a new establishment; it runs smoothly as if it had been up and running for years. We have tried the diner twice; for dinner on opening day and for breakfast this-morning. On each visit we were given a friendly greeting and the immediately ushered to a table. Yes, the parking lot was full but the Walnut Bottom Diner is well equipped to deal with the crowds. The dining room is spotless. When a table is vacated the buss staff is there immediately to clear it and make the table ready for the next guest. Service is attentive, quick, and friendly. The food is simply good diner food. The menu is full of choices; it will be hard not to find something that will satisfy. We will definitely be going back. I think you will find a lot to like at the Walnut Bottom Diner.

Much better than the Carlisle Diner. I had the biscuits and sausage gravy. Gravy and biscuits were both homemade and delicious, and the best part was it was only $6! Friend had basic eggs, sausage, homefries and was pleased with that. Wait staff was attentive, and the desserts looked good (didn't try this time). I'll definitely be coming here more often!

Cheap prices and good food. Carlisle needed a diner especially one that takes credit card. You know who you are. My only downfall is that I found a hair in my food. Now all they need is hair nets for the cooks. This is not a deal breaker, the prices and food are decent. Great for the kids and groups.

I had the ham omelette with cheddar and it was good. My kids loved their Mickey pancakes. They also Have kids for the kids cups. The hashbrowns are good and not greasy. My husband had the sausage gravy and biscuits. He said that the heavy was milk based and needed more sausage to be a true sausage gravy. The biscuits were made flat, as opposed to a big fluffy biscuit split in half. He says he'd be back but try something else. The service was fast. The place is always busy, so you may have a wait. I would expect it on a car show weekend or Sunday. We will be back.

We stopped at the diner on a long Holliday car trip and it was perfect. The service was great and the food was done very fast. The menu has a huge variety and it is very reasonably priced.

A good start! We were there a few days after they opened, I think, around lunch time. Bright and airy decor, good service. They have a very extensive menu, so there should be something for everyone. The food was good, and perfectly acceptable for a diner. But the soup was great and the roll on the side was warm and freshly baked, so it looks like they are paying attention to details. We're looking forward to trying them again.

Been here twice now. Again busy both times. However this last time the staff was inattentive and once the check came (which we hadn't asks for) they were completely gone. We waited quiet some time to get anyone's attention to get a small box for a sandwich half and a few fries. I was a bit disappointed this visit.

We have eaten one lunch and just got back from breakfast, the third visit for breakfast. This is best diner food that I can remember. The prices are amazingly low. I ate a western omelet for just over $5 and the bill for two was $14.20. The service is excellent. Even though there was a large group next to us our food came out quickly. I don't know where they get their staff, but they have been attentive and friendly. On our second visit for breakfast we had to wait a while for our bill, but that has been the only hiccup. Definitely the best diner in the area.
