Impressed for sure I ordered the Tuscan pasta with lump crab meat. F+×=% € great!!! Honestly needs no meat at all the sun dried tomatoes add a meatiness to the pasta that is incredible. I read reviews and I've had nothing but spot on services. But I sat at the bar. Beer selection awesome! Must go and check this place out! Especially if you're from out of town. !!! Cheers! !!!!

Good service was taken care of when i sat down.
(4)Ellis J.
Best fish and chips I've ever had, and the house IPA was excellent. Stopped on our way to new york, it was so good we went out of our way to have some more on the way home. The Druid salad was very interesting. Not your average salad, but very good.

Bruschetta is AWESOME In the road I find disappointment food at least twice a day-- this place makes up for that crappy breakfast sandwich in Cumberland, it's a bar with a good vibe that has a menu with lots of time and skill behind it-- I hope the deal I'm working on comes back so I can come back!
(5)Andrew D.
Gotta agree with Matthew H the bruschetta is outstanding. The service is awesome. The lunch sizes are big. We had the brei and ham and the beef pastie. The sandwich was great but the pastie was just like it is made back in england...Brilliant! The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The bathroom is very clean. Parking is free on the weekend. Military.discount on Thursdays. Downtown Carlisle is beautiful. Overall 5 star...I will come back to try the massive chicken pot pie next time.

Drink the cask ale, and the wings are pretty good too.

Once I decided to take a week off and visit friends in Lancaster County I also decided that I would take two days to get there from Pittsburgh in order to enjoy some good beers at a few breweries along the way. My search for breweries yielded an impressive list that I slowly whittled down to places that I would be near and what would be open as I was nearby. Market Cross Pub in Carlisle was to be my first stop. I cannot comment on the food as I only had the pretzel sticks as a snack with my beer flight. But I can say that the beers were better than I expected upon walking in. When I arrived shortly after noon, there were only a few patrons (two at the bar, one at a booth). It was not brightly lit, the music from the jukebox was not very loud and the Little League World Series was on the TV creating a mellow atmosphere. Perfect for enjoying a few microbrews. (Though there is also outdoor seating available at a few tables out front.) I went with a flight of what was currently available from Market Cross Brewery. My flight included Carburetor Kolsch, Midsummer Knight's Wheat, English Red Ale and English Red Ale on cask. I was not a fan of the red ale on cask. The kolsch was not dull as I've come to expect from others. The English Red Ale was a typical red ale, not a standout but not a disappointment. Midsummer Knight's Wheat was my favorite of the bunch, with a nice orange flavor. My bartender was friendly and attentive. I would recommend Market Cross Pub for a pint or two if you're in the neighborhood. If you don't think you'd like their beers, they have several other craft brew options. But I think you're missing out if you don't at least give their own beers a try.

I visited here for the first time on 5/30/15 and was pleasantly surprised! Our server was very fast and attentive. I ordered the potato skins and they were great! The order was actually much larger than I expected. They basically give you three big potatoes, gutted, and cut in half. Couldn't manage to finish them and had to take them home. They have a great beer selection. Nice atmosphere. I'd definitely go back!
(5)James B.
We stopped here on our way back home to NY from Virginia. The staff was very nice and they have a fantastic beer selection. Food was so so. We ordered the soft pretzels which were fantastic. A cheese plate that was a big let down. Squares of generic cheeses, nothing that doesn't go on a basic grilled cheese sandwich. We had a burger and steak sandwich. We ordered medium and medium rare respectively and we're both well done. It's a pet peeve of mine to get a little angry when cooks can't figure out meat temperatures. Clean up this issue and I would love to give another shot next time we drive through.
(3)Mike D.
Excellent all around! Reasonably priced, fast friendly service. Had marinated pork loin...absolutely delicious!! Would highly recommend and will definitely be back!
(5)Ben O.
A mixture of good and bad. The food had frozen corn which was a turn off but the potatoes and beef tips were perfect. The reason for 3 stars was the beer tap lines needed cleaning leaving just bad tasting beer...the worst.
(3)Stef C.
Truly my favorite pub that I've ever been to in the states. I've got friends and family that have been coming here for decades. Seriously good eats and incredible beer selections. The owners are fabulous, the brewer works hard and makes incredible beer, the waitstaff is hands down the kindest and most attentive. The best location of downtown Carlisle -- and such a nice looking pub. The vibe inside is extremely comfortable and friendly. Monday night trivia is seriously the most fun night. They've got something going on every night -- special deals/steak night/wing night/trivia/glass night/brewery tours/great military discount...etc. It is a very inviting place and there are all types of people who walk through that door. Great for group parties, kids and just to sit at the bar and relax. Also great for a date night. Nice to find a pub with their own brewery in the back too. Please go and enjoy sometime, you won't be disappointed!
(5)Shannon H.
I have been here several times, and it is has always been a good experience. First, it has a good beer selection, and they are not overpriced. It has the typical pub feel, and this is an English pub. The menu is what you would expect for a pub, and has some traditional English meals. I chose to try the crab cake sandwich, which I was not quite sure of how it would be. I am usually hesitant about ordering seafood at a place like that. However, I thought it was very good. It was not fake crab, and came with a good tartar sauce. My boyfriend ordered the special, the honey glazed pork sirloin. He really enjoyed it, and liked the macaroni that came with it, which had gouda cheese.
(4)Tucker H.
This is a good place for beer, but the food is a bit hit-or-miss. Market Cross Pub is a staple in Carlisle, and it has been busy pretty much every night I've stopped by. There are two main dining areas, one small one by the bar as you walk in, and another back around to the right, and it seems to be seat yourself at all times. They do also have a private room in the back, so if you've got a big group you can probably call to get it reserved and get your own server. The service has been friendly enough, and the kitchen seems to put out food at a reasonable clip. The beer selection isn't huge, but it is pretty good, and the couple I have tried (including a decent brown ale and a somewhat plain red ale) have been fine if unremarkable. The food seems to be a crapshoot though; the hamburger was remarkable only for being drier than any I've ever had, but the steak tips and guiness gravy was okay, the bangers and mash were good, and the garlic rosemary pork sirloin was actually quite good (not over cooked, seasoned well, and a big portion). Overall not my first choice for dining in Carlisle, but if you want a beer and some basic pub grub, it's not a bad choice.
(3)Brian H.
Don't let the pictures on the website fool you. This place is a dive, which fits right in with the dive town of Carlisle. The food was below average, the digs ditto. The bump to two stars is due to the very good service and attention by our friendly server.
(2)Mike H.
Nice little Irish Pub. Good food and decent pub-like atmosphere. Like the Chicken pot pie and crab cake sandwich.
(4)Ben K.
Crab dip was flavorless. Hot wings have hot sauce but also weird spices that cause a flavor clash. And the cheesy bread was a haphazardly prepared concoction that a five year old could make just as well. They were out of the only Market Cross beer that I wanted to try. My girlfriend asked for a bottled beer with a glass. When the waitress brought it to our table the glass was one of the small juice glasses you would get at a diner! Service was very nonchalant. Maybe she was just having a bad day. Nonetheless, no memory, monotone demeanor and a very reactive approach do not equal a good customer experience. I had wanted to try this place for quite some time. I love supporting the local, small businesses but this is one where I will not return.
(1)Michael N.
I like cheese. And cheese likes me.
(5)Amanda B.
This place is great. I love the house brews, and the food has always been good. Especially if your willing to try the British themed foods. They also always have top quality craft/import brews in tap as well as some more typical American beers. Their bottled selection is tremendous. In fact the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I wish there was more of it - specifically the bar and maybe some more taps. But I'd reckon your going to love it. Check the website for decent specials and happy hours. FYI - if your not familiar, their "cask" beer is less carbonated and kept at a warmer temperature. It's and old school thing apparently.
(4)Bobby S.
A short jaunt off the turnpike. Solid beer offering and good bison burgers. The service was very friendly. Definitely worth a stop.
(4)eddie w.
One of the best pub atmospheres I have ever seen on this side of the pond - well done! Great selection of beers. House brews very worthwhile. Food usually good but can be hit or miss. Don't go for the food but if you need a bite it's OK. Staff attentive and friendly. Relaxed and casual place just right for an evening or lazy pub afternoon.

I was in the Market X for Restaurant Week and had a very good honey deep fried chicken that was spot on. On my visit this week the honey chicken was on the special menu but as I was not very hungry I decided on the 'panko coated shrimp' appetizer. I think it was about $7 As it was on the 'specials' menu I foolishly thought it would be special. Special as in something new we like to introduce to you; or a larger portion than usual; or a lower price than normal. What I got was not special at all it was about 8 small shrimp in breadcrumbs, sitting on insipid, limp, tired shredded lettuce with a little red marinara type sauce. The shrimp were frozen straight out of the SYSCO bag into the fryer. How can any self respecting restaurant put something that is not home made on their 'specials' menu. If I wanted store bought I would have gone to the store myself, not a restaurant. At last Market X has some comfortable seats, some decent beers, but oh the food. And it is not a good sign when the manager is drinking beer when working and waiting on tables in shorts as if he just came in from working outside.
(1)Walter F.
Solid pub fare and good food in Carlisle. This is a favorite for a stop at roughly the halfway point in a bi-annual road trip to Pittsburgh, PA from NYC. I usually always order a bison burger when it's available, and this one did not disappoint. Other members of our party ordered the grilled chicken salad and the shepherd's pie. Decent beer selection. Never sat at the bar, and only came during the day. However, I suspect that the service to be equally solid. No complaints and will repeat when passing by on I-76/ I-81. Close proximity to the Army War College.
(3)Piratemon W.
My wife and I visited Market Cross 03/22/15 around 1:30pm and when we entered we saw a pub atmosphere with tons of character and we started getting excited about what was going to be a great experience. We seated ourselves, as per the instructions on the sign at the entrance. We were sitting there for less than 3 minutes and a very friendly waiter came over and gave us the food and the beverage menu's. Our server was not only friendly, but very knowledgeable on the menu and had a great attitude. Once the food arrived we were very impressed at the portion size and the quality and taste of the food, just for the food alone, we will be returning. Now on the beer, I had one of their beers along with a favorite of mine from another brewer and I can tell you that they know how to brew a good beer, loved the Dublin Yer Luck Stout and will always order that when I go there. A must go to place in Carlisle for me!!!
(5)Mohun K.
Nice selection of beer and food.
(4)Emily R.
Food is good but service is ALWAYS super slow and inattentive. Even when they're not very busy. I used to serve all throughout high school and college, so I know the ropes pretty well when it comes to serving. Asking your customers if their meal was prepared correctly and if everything is tasting alright is pretty basic, yet the servers here can't even seem to manage that. My chicken tonight was extremely dry but my server never knew that because she never came back to us until I flagged her down for the check.... Also a simple pasta meal and chicken dinner took near 45 minutes to come out. Again, they weren't even busy...... So if you don't mind mediocre service then sure try this place out.
(3)Jennifer D.
Stopped in after a recommendation from a friend and was not disappointed. I had a burger and my husband had a beef pastie. My husband said the beer was pretty good. Service was okay.
(4)Ann L.
Go for the beer NOT the food! Every time I eat here I think I will write a review. Yes, this is coming from a total foodie, but really, the food is awful. Fun place to meet up with friends.
(2)Leah P.
I had the Duke of Devonshire (turkey sandwich with Brie). Don't get that. Left the rind of the Brie in the sandwich. Very average. My boyfriend got the Earl of Westmoreland (steak sandwich with peppers). It was SO good! The service was good even though it was busy and we never had to wait long for drink refills. Big beer selection. And very cheap! We were shocked how low our bill was after a good amount of beer and two sandwiches. We were there during happy hour, so that helped. Update - just had the fish basket - very good! The shrimp and chicken basket was good too!
(4)Sean B.
What a hidden gem. Good pub food, got a growler of their home made brew and was invited to come back during the next couple of days to do a brewery tour! Love it.
(4)Meghan C.
Strongly recommend their BLT- "ye old BLT" it's delicious. Also the cheese bread appetizer is delightful. Great beer selection.
(4)Vivian T.
On the highway there was a sign that said there were 30+ restaurants in Historic Carlisle. So, we drive into a quiet town with no one walking around and find Market Cross Pub. We loved this place! There was traditional pub food, burgers, sandwiches, shepherds pie. The beer has it's own menu, there were so many excellent choices. The waiter, Joe, was the highlight. Adorable guy, so knowledgeable about every beer on the menu. We sampled a few choices, finally deciding on Joe's recommendation. He was so welcoming that he made the trip memorable for us. There were a few locals at the bar, everyone was friendly and it had a good vibe. My husband had a burger with pulled pork and bacon on it. I had a ham and Swiss sandwich with a side of Red Potatoes with garlic. These were mouth watering! They have an enormous refrigerator with every beer imaginable for you to make your own six-packs. It's worth a stop!
(5)Crystal L.
Located in quaint downtown Carlisle, PA, this place has a huge selection of beer on tap to include their own microbrew. We shared the following and left so full we could hardly breathe. (Note: this coming from 2 fatasses.) Bacon crab chowder Battered greenbeans Prime rib dinner Everything was cooked to perfection and the service was superb. A definite must-try!
(5)Jennifer N.
Carlisle was the halfway point for our most recent car trip, and we were desperately hungry so stopped at Market Cross (MC). At first, I was turned off by the super dark atmosphere (it was a gorgeous afternoon outside, and eating in a cavernous pub seemed strange) but everything we ate-- albeit simple-- was tasty. Basic grilled chicken sandwiches loaded with mushrooms, onions, and extra sharp cheddar were the perfect fuel for the road, as was the perfectly salted and crispy bag of chips. And when the kitchen mistakenly put cheese all over my dining companion's sandwich, our waitress caught it before serving it, had them remake it, apologized, and gave us a discount. Lunch for two came to $16.
(4)Jessica S.
I won't go back to this place. The service was bad. Waitress never came around and only turned on the charm as we were getting the check. The bread on the app menu was bland and tasted like something I could whip up in 2 mins after a night of . The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because they had yuengling summer wheat on draft.
(2)Patrick F.
Wow. This place is amazing. Beer selection is great. Around the world and microbrews. Eric on the bar is great. Always pleasant and knowledgeable. John is also great. If you sit at a table then Jamie is a pleasure to have. Really I haven't ever had a bad experience here and will be back weekly. Keep up the great work and keep the great IPAs on draft. Food has always been as I ordered and expected.
(5)Jacob S.
Me and my business partner stopped here for lunch as we were passing through the town. Market Cross is very cool. It has a great old English Pub theme going on. The place looks as if it has been in this town for ages and I think that gives it a great atmosphere. We arrive around lunch time. When you walk in there are booths to your left, the bar is on your right and then it opens up into a decent sized dining area with tables. The booths and tables were filled with people of all ages so it was easy to see that this pub is liked by everyone in town. Their beer selection is pretty good. They have a large beer bible with a lot of their " beers" being " mixed drinks" such as a raspberry lambic mixed with a chocolate stout. They're interesting mixes and quite tasty. The good was good too. They also brew their own beer in the garage behind the bar. Their stuff isn't too shabby.
(4)Karen S.
I've been coming to Market Cross for a couple of years, and the food, beer and atmosphere are really good. It's a fun place. I am, however, a little maxed out on the consistently rude waitstaff. Some are great, others are pretty brusk and unfriendly. I was in there again tonight, and felt like I was being yelled at when asked what I wanted to order. I don't know why a place with so many things going for it can't find friendlier people. I've waited tables for a long time, and the staff is a huge part of the experience. It definitely makes me think twice before going back, every time.
(2)John M.
My wife and I went there today for one of their own beers. Had the Red Ale, pretty good beer. We also got the pub sampler. The wings out of it were probably the best of the sampler...they were perfectly cooked. The cheesy bread was simply half of a hoagie bun with cheese on it and the potato skins looked as if they had been prepared some time before.
(3)William S.
This review is for beer selection only, I have not yet tried the food but I hear they have good wings from a reliable source. This small English pub has some of the best beer selections in town. We stopped in on a weeknight around 6pm and the place was packed. It took a little while to get service from the bar but if you want to go someplace with a larger selection this is your spot.
(4)Dave A.
Just passing through town and came here on recommendation of hotel staff. Sat at the bar and had great service by bartender Erik. Had the Pub brewed Porter and Stout - both excellent. Food: had the fish and chips and a lobster salad. Very, very good. Monday night was trivia night and the place was packed. Very friendly and enjoyable atmosphere. I would definitely stop here again !
(5)Kyle S.
One of my favorite places to eat, hands down. The atmosphere is great, the craft beer list is ten miles long, and the food is always the best. I try some new things occasionally, but I admit I'm a creature of habit, and usually go for the Duke of Devonshire, one of their sandwiches. It's trukery and brie cheese on french bread, and it is just absolutely spectacular.
(5)Heather B.
We were in town for a car show and stopped in based on prior reviews. I must say we were not impressed. The fish and chips were forgettable and so was the sub par service. We heard someone say that this was the best place in Carlisle ... That's NOT saying much!
(2)Dave L.
Rolled in to Market Cross Pub & Brewery on an early Friday afternoon for some grub and a cold one. The Pub was reminiscent of many that I grew up going to (yes it is normal to bring kids to bars in Wisconsin). Great selection of brews, not to fancy on the inside, and the bonus was the food was terrific. We sampled the pretzels, Pittsburgh-style steak sandwich and fish & chips. The portions were large and quality of the different dishes excellent. Thanks for the friendly service and good food & drink - I look forward to coming back for another visit.
(4)DL H.
Ton's of beer selections and they even have their own micro-brew. Their micro-brews are just OK, but worth trying. Every other Tuesday they have a take home the glass night, if you buy the beer, you take the glass home (of course, it's a little more expensive, but worth it most times). The food is OK. Nothing I'd crave and have to make a special trip for, but it's decent enough. Have tried mostly sandwiches, bison burgers and some of their English specialty dinners. I'd give the food a 3.5/5. I go for the glasses, and am always pleased with whatever food I get. Can't go wrong with a place like that. Atmosphere is fun too. Go with friends.
(4)Jessica L.
After reading such great reviews on this place a girlfriend and I chose this as our "girls night" place to eat. We should have thought twice on that one. Our waitress Jamie, probably one of the WORST waitresses I have ever had. I only learned her name at the time to pay for my bill because it was printed on my receipt. She was not friendly, didn't know the soup/bisque specials and slammed the plates down on the table when she brought them out. My pasta was cold and tasted more like warm milk than an Alfredo sauce. She left with my plate with an attitude and brought it back still not warm. We left quickly and I tossed my leftovers at home. Definitely NOT coming back here again.
(1)Matt H.
Place has a good English-American feel. I'd recommend the shepherd's pie. This place also has awesome mashed potatoes.
(5)J P.
Their house IPA did not taste fresh or as hoppy as an IPA should. My cheese steak had way more onions and peppers than steak. My GF's Rueben was tough.
(2)Doug K.
After reviewing a web search, I had decided to dine at Market Cross Pub while staying overnight in Carlisle. I certainly made the right choice. This pub (which is also a small microbrew) has a dining area, bar area and even had a band playing when I patronized the restaurant. For food, there are a number of American and English food favorites that one can choose from, as well as a fair number of beer choices. I had the English bangers, as it seemed to be a little more mild selection from the other bangers and mash that is on the menu. I'd recommend Market Cross if you're looking to eat or drink in Carlisle.
(4)Jack R.
Found this place through Yelp and pulled off I-81 to discover a pretty town and a place that has great beer and fine pub grub. I've had better corned beef, but what do you expect in a Harrisburg burb?
(3)Shelley W.
The pub is one of my "go to" places in Carlisle. It's like my Cheers. You see many of the same faces each time you go in, and they all make you feel welcome. They brew their own beers and have a SPECTACULAR selection from around the world in bottles (and several other options on tap). Monday night Trivia is a great time, and every other Tuesday is glass night (buy the beer, keep the glass). Great music with generally no cover. The pub is owned by great people and I have never had less-than-stellar service.
(4)Sam B.
Not bad, liked the atmosphere
(3)Zack M.
I am in Carlisle a lot for business and I've been able to tour a few of the restaurants. But for some reason I always come back to the Market Cross Pub. I love it. The prices are very reasonable. The beer selection is deep. I recommend the beer they brew on the premises. I love their king fish and chips. The staff is always great. And their shepherds pie is also excellent.
(5)Andrea W.
This is the place to go for a laid-back meal and a good pint. The chicken pot pie is startlingly, stunningly good comfort food, with an indescribable something-something flavor and perfectly flaky pastry top. I could take the wings or leave them; same goes for the fish & chips, despite rave reviews from other posters. Everything is reasonably priced though, so I don't mind trying something and discovering it's not the thing for me! The bartenders are friendly but unobtrusive, and the crowd always offers a good mix. I can kill hours at this place- It's never dead, but never raucous. Why can't Chambersburg have a place like this?
(5)Marissa H.
A new find for my family & pretty decent. Definitely gets busy but they take reservations. A dark bar/pub with random beer signs & "Olde English" armor as decorations. They brew their own beer but didn't seem to have a large selection when we were there on a Friday night. Large list of imports from all over PA & other USA states/international; no wine/liquor though. For a vegetarian, the menu's not so large. I got the portabello mushroom burger fajita style so it came w/ grilled red & green peppers, onions & cheese. Definitely missing the lettuce as described on the menu & the fajita seasoning wasn't too noticeable. The bun - a kaiser roll from a local bakery - was very good & sopped up the mushroom juices well. The mushroom & bun are large so very filling. I got a side salad instead of fries & it was the (sub)standard iceberg lettuce, onions, carrot shavings, out of season tomatoes & cukes. The housemade tomato vinaigrette dressing was yummy though. Other items that were enjoyed by family members: pretzel w/ melted cheese & crab flakes as an app, hot dog w/ french fries for the kid, chicken pot pie, bangers & mash (2 large spicy sausages served w/ mashed potatoes, peas & mustard), chicken oscar (grilled chicken breast topped w/ crab meat served over rice & asparagus - I ate the asparagus & it was mushy & overdone), & beef 'n guiness (sirloin tips cooked in guiness gravy served w/ veggies & mashed potatoes). A few pitchers of beer rounded out dinner, no dessert - too full! Staff was ok. We asked to be reseated because it was too noisy & crowded at the first spot (there was a newborn & a 3rd old with us). At first they were annoyed but once they realized it was for everyone's benefit, the service became a bit better/friendlier. I'd return here to try their other vegetarian options but would like to see some real effort put into the vegetarian/vegan options & have all your beers available!
(3)Jessica H.
Love the pub! I used to do karaoke nights there and I've been eating there since I was a kid, amazing food!
(5)Caitlin C.
The beer isn't the only amazing thing here. I usually just come here for the food!!! Their shepherd's pie is to-die-for: Seasoned lamb and veggies, cheesey topping, and the mashed potatoes are so good! yum!! But not enough food for me... So I usually get the King Fish- my favorite dinner of all time. $10.25. I still can't get over how cheap it is! You get 2 big pieces of very crispy breaded fish (the breading is yummm) served on a huge pile of fries. I drown mine in malt vinegar, salt, and lemon and eat the whole thing because I can't stop. I always walk out feeling so FULL. And happy. Before I came to Market Cross Pub, I didn't think I liked beer...but the waitresses here are always awesome and recommend good things. The first time, my waitress recommended the Woodchuck. Not my fave, but way better than anything I'd tried before. The second time around, my waitress recommended the Sweetart (cider and framboise) and I fell in love with Framboise forever. This place rocks.
(5)Joe B.
A a little more upscale than N Hanover grill. They have a bigger selection of drinks and some of the beers they make on site and really good and not outrageous on the wallet. The basic burger and wings are not as good at N. hanover grill, but their specialty dinners are better. The bangers and mash come to mind as well as their beef 'n Guinness...both really good and worth having multiple times. They also do brewery tours (haven't been on one but nice idea)
(4)Ionatan O.
The atmosphere is very close to some of the pubs I visited in Ireland, so points for that. The beer selection is massive, they have big name brews down to local craft brews, as well as their own beers. I tried their Excelsior stout and after the initial bite it mellows to a smooth nutty taste. I highly recommend it. I ordered their fish and chips for dinner. The wait time was acceptable considering how busy they were that night. The food was satisfactory, but really nothing to get excited over. The breading on the fish was a tad soggy and came off in huge chunks, but it had a nice flavor and the tartar sauce that accompanied the fish was tart and sweet, a nice complement to the flavor of the fish. The fries didn't taste very fresh. They were served hot, but some of them were very hard which can indicate they are old or over cooked. Overall, I would recommend Market Cross for the beer nerds out there, but if you're looking for a high-quality meal you can do better elsewhere.
(4)Larry F.
I first went to Market Cross with buddies in college and I haven't stopped going since. Probably provides one of the better beer selections in town. They even brew their own beer (which is pretty darn good). My betrothed might love their cottage pie more than she loves me. All-in-all, a neat place with a lot of character!
(4)kevin b.
We stopped on a Sat. night. The place was great. We had a Duke Wellington sandwich, wings, crab stuff portabello mushroom, a beef Pastie, 2 beers, and a share dessert for $50. The food was great. The beer selection was awesome. The people were friendly and helpful. We would have loved to stay and listen to the band setting up. I would definitely eat here again.
(5)Andrew S.
Great English Pub with a great staff, great food and great drink. I remember when this place opened up - it was a godsend on the Carlisle scene. I really wish there was a Markets Cross Pub in Los Angeles. It's all about the cheese bread - Loves It!!
(5)Dan R.
I visited Market Cross pub for Valentines Day recently. We came in just before dinner and didnt end up needing reservations. It's located on Hanover Street in downtown Carlisle. I had heard about the wing specials and was kind of excited to check it out. The beer menu is almost as large as the regular menu, they also make their very own micro-brews! We had the fish & chips, half sandwich & cup of soup, along with a dozen hot wings (I wanted to try nuclear wings, but chickened out). Service was OK, there charged us for 2 sodas, though we only ordered 1, eventually it was fixed. It's pretty much standard pub food, with a few English items thrown in (fish & chips, shepard's pie, beef pastie, tuna melt). They have food & drink specials every day of the week, as well as live entertainment.

Food is truly meh. Drinks are truly great. You come here for the beer selection, not fine dining or even good pub food.

When I was in law school, if my friends and I weren't at Mt. Fuji, we were probably here. The malt beverages are good (sweet sweet Woodchuck) as is the food. This place has the best fish and chips I have had anywhere in the world, including Britain. Either the fish is marinated or there's garlic in the batter, but goddamn that fish is good. The dining room is rarely empty, and some of the servers are pretty bad at math, but it's usually a good time. Karaoke night is priceless--I even won once! It's a great place to go with a group for sure.

I am not really a pub kind of gal even though I prefer to drink big-ass-beer over any other booze. However, I was pretty impressed with this little pub in Carlisle, PA. They have tons of beer on tap from all over the world and even more available as bottles. This place was recommended or forced upon us by the colleagues from CCM, and I now know why! Everyone was happy with service, atmosphere, food, and of course beer they were drinking. I had stuffed Flanders, which was stuffed with crab meat and then gently basked. It was very simple but had good flavor. My group went back to the pub on Wednesday, where I had their New York strips, it was once again GOOD. I was told their hot wings are really good which had 7-8 difference sauce options, and I am truly sad that I didn't get to try them. It was the perfect small town pub with tons of charateristics.

Beer selection excellent, fun pub atmosphere, food is average plus.

Owner apathetic about bad experiences. Staff was drunk and rude, owner couldn't have cared less saying "I don't care if you come here again or not."

Fantastic beer selection and great food! The Blue Mountain Maibach was great--crisp and refreshing. We shared the artichoke dip and the chicken and crab cake entree. Both we fantastic! We sat at the bar and had great service and friendly conversations. It is a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Best place to drink beer in town! Great regular specials! Good food! Lots of activities and entertainment. All of their sandwiches are delicious! Pork sirloin and cottage pie are awesome! Good soups, too!

Market Cross Pub is not simply a pub. It's a community, it's a happening, it's microbrewery that boasts a 10-barrel open-fermentation system that was brought over from England in 1933. (!) Not bad for little ol' Carlisle. The microbrewery produces a wide variety of ales and porters, creating an ever-changing menu. There's also a "Beer Passport" that encourages you to sample from its generous selection of beers from around the world. (Think about that for a moment.) There's also a pleasing menu of traditional pub food that is a hit with locals. But this isn't why I like to go. It's a friendly, fun place that regularly creates quirky little social events that keep Hanover Street hopping. What's not to love? My only complaint: It closes early on evenings when there aren't many customers at the bar.

I love coming to this place. It's a great place to hang out and have a few brews. The food however is just "OK". Typical pub fare.

Awesome pub in a neat little town. Tons of beer on tap, even more available as bottles. Great English pub food. My fish and chips was awesome. Portions are huge though. I ordered the king portion (because I didn't want to look like a sissy and order the queen!), but ended up still looking like a wuss because I couldn't eat it all. Really cool place.

Everything from the beer to the coffee was spot on. The beer list is huge. They have 14 beers on tap and pages and pages of bottles. I had the garlic/ rosemary pork sirloin and it was a huge piece of pork that was juicy and very flavorful. The desert menu only has a few things but the coffee was great. I will NEVER come to Carlisle and miss having dinner here. P.S. the beer prices are very reasonable.

We always go there for the english food and they have so much beer that it's hard to choose. they also brew their own beer so ask about that.

Lots of beer on tap (12+). They even had one on cask. Friendly bartender and patrons. The food is simple and good.

99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beeeeeer, Take one down, pass it around, 98 bottles of beer on the wall! Sorry Elephant & Castle - this place has you beat on the English food. Plus, it's a great place to find a wide variety of beers in Central PA. Wait, let me be more precise - their menu is tainted with typical bar fare - wings, artichoke dip, bruschetta, stuffed potato skins, etc. HOWEVER, they make some very good and very authentic English food. Case in point - they make their Shepherd's Pie with lamb. Oh Lordy, I'm totally amazed and totally in awe. Finally, somebody with the "hoo-hahs" to make it the real way - not dumbed down with only beef. I'm excited. My mother swears by the Druid Salad ... 6.95. It's made of warm red potatoes and green beans, bacon, red onion over mixed greens served with a garlic buttermilk dressing . Sounds bizarre, but I've had it and it is really good. Their bisques and chili are also good. I haven't tried their other soups. I would walk a mile (or more) for one of their Pub Style burgers topped with onions and Stilton cheese. Their Beef in Guinness is also good. I've only had the house beers once or twice. They weren't bad, but I prefer to take advantage of the wide selection of other brews that they have available. With the death of Kclingers, this is one of the remaining places where you can get something "exotic". I like Lindemans on tap and experimenting with microbrew bottles hoping to find a new favorite. I also like a Shandy on a hot day. When they have fresh Stella on tap and you quaff it along side of the Pub Style burger - it makes for a great late lunch on an afternoon (as long as there is no car show which makes the traffic, parking, and lines in the restaurants a complete ^%@*!&.

The steaks are awesome, tons of beers and cheap

Was in town for a show at the performing arts center and had dinner here. Had a nice fun local feel. The service was excellent and the staff was helpful and nice especially in picking one of the many beers available. The food was typical pub food but was good. We had burgers and they were cooked exactly as we requested. If I am up in the area again I will be going back.

Can't say enough great things about this pub! It's my all time favorite! The IPA is fantastic and the staff is the best especially Connie!
(5)Daniel M.
Very good all-around pub and restaurant. The food is good. If you like beer, you will like this place. If you have kids, you will like this place. If you want a place to eat that is fair on price, this is it. Worth a stop, if passing through Carlisle.

Great food! Love the pasties. Hubby loves the English bangers and mash. Wonderful beer selection, including local beers. Service is great-very friendly-and accomodate our 1 year old very well.

The reviews were right on. I had the shepherd's pie, which was the best that I have ever had. Real lamb and wonderful homemade mash mounted on top. So many choices for beer. Service was quick and friendly. We will return!

In college, once I was of age, I came here every tues. Part of the reason was that tues was glass night and you could take home a free pub glass. But mostly because it was the best bar for miles. Many many beers with samplers available, and the best mustard and soft pretzles ever.

Who doesn't love Market Cross? My five stars are probably due to me waxing nostalgic for my college days, but oh well! So much fun to go and grab a beer and some food. I love their house dressing, everyone should try it. I could drink the whole bottle, but that would be frowned upon. I'm not gonna lie, their food isn't EXCELLENT, but it's not half bad and inexpensive too (compared to the money suck of DC where I'm currently drinking beers and eating grub). Their mashed potatoes are especially yummers!

Great Pub atmosphere. Wonderful food, great prices, fresh brews on tap, good service. BEER ONLY!! It's a pub folks!! And at least they have liqour license, PA is sooooo tough to get licensed. Enjoy!
(5)Ross G.
The atmosphere and service in this pub was excellent! Our server (Karin) was very attentive and friendly! The beer selection is awesome; both for international beers and craft beers (especially from PA)! We tried their house flight of four microbrews which were all tasty - I decided to have one of their Mai Bock and my wife went with the Pale Ale but all were good! The food on the other hand was nothing to write home about - I had their Calamari Special App that was obviously frozen and quickly deep fried and then the Shepard's Pie which was nothing but oddly flavored ground meat with dried out mash potatoes on top (they were real potatoes I will give them that)! Overall I would say it is a great place to go for beer!!! And I would like to have a place like it closer to home (we drove 45 miles to have dinner) where I could have a great selection of good beer but their food was substandard but relatively cheap which caters to the college crowd!

reliable, dependable, affordable good old market cross fish & chips and Yuengling, can't beat it!

Bad service, ordered a starter of potato skins.....never came out, he brought our meal out and I reminded him about them....oh yeah i forgot those....so I canceled them since our meal was already there ( they lost $$ ). The woodchuck was warmish on draft. The king fish was good and my wife liked the cottage pie. I was just visiting but won't be back when I come back through town. We picked this because of the reviews on here.

Nice small place to drink all kinds of beer. They have a small dining area also. I think they have over 100 kinds of beer. Did I mention they have a lot of beer? I like their crab dip and wheat beer. Good service but it can get packed on weekends. They have live entertainment some nights.

I have eaten here twice this week and plan to return in the upcoming days.
