I first came here on a Ladies Night Out with some girlfriends on a Thursday night. We were hungry and shared a bunch of apps to start (Chips/Salsa, Guac, Jalapeno poppers). Everything was delicious and generous portion sizes. The "chips and salsa" actually come with three different types of sauces for all different spice levels and the poppers were seriously amazing. Most of us got the three taco combo for dinner and one friend ordered a salad. We were all oohing and ahhhing over the salad. It was very fresh and just looked amazing. My FAVORITE taco is the mushroom and gouda. WOW... The second time I came was a Friday night where we had a reservation and were seated right away. I got many of the same items because they were so good the first time! My hubby got a burrito and a friend got a shrimp entree... both boys said their dinners were excellent. My husband had enough to take home the next day too! We also splurged and got a dessert. I don't normally eat dessert as I would rather just eat more dinner.... but we got the nutella/banana dessert and it was unlike anything I have had. It was rich, gooey, and we could not stop eating it. Other than the food, the ambiance is fun! I am pregnant so I didn't indulge in the margaritas but other people in my parties brought wine for themselves as it is BYOB. We had plenty of water delivered and our waitress each time was very attentive. Did I mention that each entree also helps those in need? It was a really cool experience to eat an amazing dinner AND know that we were doing "good". I absolutely recommend this restaurant. Although I live in the suburbs, many friends of mine live on the Main Line so I will continue to suggest Tres Gups as our meeting spot for dinner! I want to try brunch next!

Today on a Saturday morning, we went for brunch and had an 11am reservation. We got there slightly late, but it was relatively empty when we got there so we were seated quickly. We ordered after 10 minutes or so around 11:20. There were two other parties of 3 and 1. They only had one chef working and it took over an hour to get our food and it came in two different batches for a group of 10. Now it's 1:10 and we still have not been able to leave because the service has been so slow. The food overall was very good, but not worth the slow service.

Bland and expensive Mexican food. I ordered nachos and there was barely any toppings. It was basically a $12 plate of chips with a little guac. The chicken had no flavor at all. If you told me it was tofu i would've believed you. It's BYOT but the margarita mix was $5 per person. For margarita mix. Never been so disappointed.

Son and I decided to have dinner here during a week day - around 7pm. Got a seat right away at the front. Love the causes that this establishment supports and it explains some of the prices being a bit on the high end. We ordered guac & chips - this was good guac not the best but good - it was a bit spicy for my liking. We were never asked what we wanted to drink - just was brought out a glass bottle of what smelled & tasted like tap water. I shouldn't have to ask what my options are for a beverage. Also had the chorizo empanadas - this app was two large portions stuffed with diced chorizo and potato - the crust was heavy and thick. Any empanadas I've ever had have a light flaky crust. Son ordered a chicken burrito and I ordered a chicken burrito in a bowl. These portions were big. And the plates and bowls themselves are big. The tables are small so there isn't a lot of room. When we were brought over our dinner we didn't know where to put the appetizer plates - so it was like a quick shuffling and rearranging to have them put down our dinner. The food here is good. But where is the customary hot sauces on the table? Mexican food is normally spicy and the only thing that had some kick was the guac. I hope this place succeeds as I haven't really seen any Mexican places. Son said he'd go back but I'd like to find a more authentic Mexican place to spend my money and since we do contribute to a few different charities already I've already done my part.

Dinner there on one of the first few weeks that they opened was great. The tacos and burritos were enormous and very tasty. The service was above part and very friendly that night. The general manager even gave us a dessert card to come back. We returned on a early Sunday night and was sorely disappointed. Only the manager was working as the server but three other people were working as receptionists. The orders took and a long time and the food as well. Their exhaust hood is definitely underpowered it was so smokey in there that we had to ask them to open the back door. Our clothes stunk like we went to a teppanyaki restaurant afterwards. Honestly, the food was good except my tequila shrimp which was bizarrely paired with sweet potato drenched in overpowering cinnamon. The water that they serve has a very strong chlorine smell. We told them that they need a better filter on the tap water. Too bad that they miss out on extra revenue by not even offering any bottle water. I'd really like this place to survive, not like the Cambodian restaurant that used to be there. But if they don't correct these areas, I'm afraid they'll be out of the space in a year.

When they say that for every meal you order, they feed two other people, I did not actually think that it was with the same ginormous burrito. The Rev. Dr. Steak and I stopped in to Tres Guppy's, a brand spankin' new restaurant on Lancaster Ave. in Bryn Mawr, right tin the heart of their shopping/dining district. We have this kind of Quixotic quest to find good Sonoran style (or any style other than Guadalajaran, Tex-Mex, or California "Fresh Grill") Mexican in Pennsylvania. It is quite possible that the Holy Grail will be found right next to the Fountain of Youth before we find this. We are patient though and ever hopeful. Tres Guppy's is definitely a restaurant with a social mission (or two). They locally source as much as possible, make everything fresh, and for every entree you buy, they donate two meals. One meal is donated to Philabundance, and one to a charity in Africa. They promote this heavily with the word "Gratitude" on staff shirts, and a huge sign describing their mission and values. It's also on the menu and they tell you several times. The space is well lit and the tables are decently spaced apart. We were seated promptly and offered menus as well as complimentary margaritas. Yes, please. The menu is not broad, focusing on things like tacos, burritos, some steak and seafood entrees, appetizers, salads and a few desserts. They cover most of the bases. Our server was prompt and cheerful. It's fresh but not necessarily super-healthy - many things come out swimming in cheese, for example. The entrees that arrived were seriously huge. Monstrous. Ron Jeremy size. People, there's generous portions and there's contributing-to-obesity. They were dancing along that line. The Rev. got the pineapple pork burrito and I got the grilled chicken burrito. They were both...OK. Nice blend of flavors, my chicken was chewy and dry. The pork tasted mostly of pineapple. Spanish rice was likewise fine. It was...fine. Just fine. Kinda like Santa Fe Burrito with a social cause attached to it, which is very cool. Parking is something of a pain in the patootie, so I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to go there again, but I also wouldn't make a point toe get there at all costs. If it were a choice between Santa Fe and here, I would choose here in a minute, though.

We were very happy with our food here, and that was before we even knew about the social justice work they do. A single mixed order of tacos was enough lunch for two. The mushroom and cheese tacos were great, heavy but really enjoyable. The shrimp taco was nice as well. The rice had a nice cheesy quality to it. We'd be very happy to eat here again.

So my friends and I normally love Tres Guppy's. Bring your own tequila for margaritas, good quesadillas, great nachos, typical Mexican place. You would think they would get it together for Cinco de Mayo right? WRONG! Our waitress Denisse gave us the worst service imaginable. We were served the wrong orders left and right. Steak instead of chicken, missing an order of rice, etc. What pissed me off the most is that we ordered a pitcher of margarita as soon as we sat down and continually reminded her to bring it to us and even though she kept saying ok we didn't get our pitcher until after most of us finished our food. I am in shock and very upset with how ridiculously bad this service was and I am questioning if I should ever even come back to Tres Guppy's again after previously great experiences.
We got a vegi burrito and guac, and it we were very full by the end. The pretty steep price of the burrito makes sense when you consider how big the portion is. Easily fed two adults. The flavors in the burrito and guac were very good and were complemented nicely by a fresh pico de gallo on top. Was dressed with a cheese and cilantro sauce and sour cream. The guacamole was fresh and very tasty and came with some corn chips. The atmosphere was nice and quiet but would also be good for a group of friends. Will definitely be going back here and interested in trying the brunch menu.

The only reason I'm not giving Tres Guppy's a one-star is because I honestly feel bad for the establishment. I'm also giving them the benefit of the doubt because it's a relatively new restaurant. A friend and I came here after hearing the food was great, despite also hearing the reviews on the bad service. I am one who is able to look past bad service, if the food is great! However, this was not the case. The service here was "strange." I say this because there were two hostesses/waitresses who's jobs seemed to be mixed. One of the waitresses was basically bustling the whole time we were there (she tried her best and told us it was her first day while apologizing), while the other did almost nothing. This was strange considering the place was relatively busy. A family had left, and the waitress that was actually working was too busy to clean up the table. However, the one that was not doing anything literally did nothing. Tres Guppy's has an open kitchen which provides a bit of entertainment for children. However, the kitchen is also understaffed which causes the wait for food to be longer. Our appetizers seemingly came from a frozen box and were definitely not worth the price. (Advice, skip appetizers and order the main.) The entrees we ordered were large in size, but lacked in taste. They were borderline flavorless. The burritos are huge, but what's the point of size when the quality is subpar? We originally wanted to order the "el jefe" - but we were told that the main ingredient of short ribs were out. That's really unfortunate, because a lot of the menu consisted of short ribs. A restaurant really shouldn't run out of an essential ingredient. Especially since the "el jefe" is what we were looking forward to eating. I would advise Tres Guppy's to not try and skimp out on the essentials such as the waitstaff or food quality. Since it's a new restaurant, word of mouth reputation builds very quickly. I would advise customers to order out instead of dining in, because the dine in experience is not that great--left us sorely unsatisfied. However, we did notice a few people getting take-out so I'm assuming that's the best way to go considering the wait service. All in all, I'm still interested in trying the "el jefe," but I will not be dining in next time. TAKE OUT IS THE WAY TO GO!

First time here, my experience was good. I enjoyed the environment. The music was great, the decorations on the table/walls were different. I liked it. I liked that most of the menu was free range. This restaurant is Mexican food and the menu had a good selection of food and not just your ordinary Mexican food. I ordered the FRESH Squeezed Orange Juice which was SO good!! Def worth the $4.00. I ordered Tres Skillet for 'breakfast' which was also really good. It had mushrooms/sausage/cheese/eggs with bacon bits and potatoes on the side. Really good! My friend ordered an Omelet and she said it was very good as well. I would def recommend this place and would go back again soon.

There is a serious shortage of dining options in the Mexican food category in this area, so I was excited when tres guppies opened. I was not disappointed. Although it was a bit pricier than the average Mexican restaurant, it does contribute meals to philabundance and an international organization--well worth the few extra dollars. I ordered mix and match tacos and was impressed by the flavor. Especially enjoyed the mushroom and cheese taco--original and delicious (especially for vegetarians). Ambience and atmosphere was great. I will definitely be going back!

Our meal started off with my wife ordering two appetizers and me ordering a main course, explaining that we wanted all of the food served at the same time. OK, so a bit of a glitch on the delivery of the dishes, as the quesadilla arrived by itself, but the short-rib quesadilla ($11) made up for it. It was delicious. The accompanying guacamole and the spicy pico de gallo made it even better. We waited with positive anticipation of the rest of the order. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. Watching everyone around us being served and wondering where the rest of our order was, our server did tell us that our main dish and soup would be coming soon. When the plates did arrive at our table, they were disappointing. I ordered the Pollo con Rajas ($17). The grilled chicken breasts were placed atop one another with some spices/vegetables between them, and covered with a good amount of cheese and sauce. What was missing was flavor. I expect that when I order Mexican food it will deliver quite a bit of flavor and at least a little spice. Even the rice served with my dish was bland. This dish delivered nothing but two tough chicken fillets, a sauce that was basically tasteless, with veggies that were mushy and nothing to write home about. My wife thought she ordered a chicken tortilla from the appetizer section of the menu, but actually was delivered chicken tortilla soup ($5). OK, so she went with it. Again, it was not what she expected. The soup had tortilla chips in the soup, making them rather soggy. The chips would have been better served on the side and used for dipping into the soup. I tasted the broth after she had eaten the rest of the soup, and it tasted basically like warm saline water to me. Not impressed. Upon waiting for the check, I noticed that a couple of grains of the rice from my dish fell into the narrow slats in the table top. Looking through the slats, I could see the remains of other meals where things were spilled. I suggest that tables with narrow slats are not a good and hygienic choice for a restaurant tabletop. I will not be returning to this restaurant. The food was bland and, frankly, expensive and disappointing.

Tres disappointing. Was excited to see a Mexican place on the Main Line, but not one that serves mediocre tacos for $5+ each (they weren't worth more than $3 apiece). I imagine the decor was going for shabby chic, but the taqueria vibe combined with bistro prices made for a dissonant experience. Let's hope the El Limon opening soon in Ardmore can do better for those of us who aren't charging our meal to Mom and Dad's credit card. Until then, you're better off making the trip into University City for Honest Tom's.

Had a great lunch at tres guppy yesterday. Had the tacos sampler. Mushroom/ Gouda was fantastic. Good guacamole with. warm chips. Tortilla soup was really good and the salad with chicken was gigantic and delicious! We will definitely be going back.

Upon eating there for my first and only time thus far, my first impression of the place was that they were short staffed. It's Saturday night, and there were maximum 3 waitresses, sharing the duties of hostess as well, to take care of what seemed like 55-65 customers. I think there were 2 cooks in the kitchen. The result of this is that our dining experience, a table of 2, was LONG. I'm talking almost +90 minutes just to eat some tacos. I like the mission they're on for donating meals and sourcing their food locally. For that, I don't mind paying a bit more, which I think is reflected in their prices. The food is not bad either. I got the Tequila Shrimp and thought they were delicious. The person I dined with had the tacos, and while nothing special, could be described as "good." From reading other reviews on here, my observation of them being short-staffed does not seem isolated to just my experience. For that reason, I'd probably only return sometime when there is no wait, because at the moment the staff is not adequate to handle the amount of tables they serve.

I ordered the braised short ribs but what came out was an extremely over cooked hunk of meat. Braised meat should be tender and this was not even close. For $23 I was expecting so much more. I never knew that Mexican food could be so bland. The only good thing is that my meal will feed a needy person in another country. Next time I will donate directly. This place has potential but if they keep serving food like this they won't last.

Great atmosphere and good food . Not kidding when they say one entrée can feed two . I got the El Jefe and the thing is a beast ! It looks pricey at first but again one entrée can feed two . BYOT and they have mixers ready .

(Advice, skip appetizers and order the main.) The entrees we ordered were large in size, but lacked in taste. They were borderline flavorless. The burritos are huge, but what's the point of size when the quality is subpar? We originally wanted to order the "el jefe" - but we were told that the main ingredient of short ribs were out. That's really unfortunate, because a lot of the menu consisted of short ribs. A restaurant really shouldn't run out of an essential ingredient. Especially since the "el jefe" is what we were looking forward to eating. I would advise Tres Guppy's to not try and skimp out on the essentials such as the waitstaff or food quality. Since it's a new restaurant, word of mouth reputation builds very quickly. I would advise customers to order out instead of dining in, because the dine in experience is not that great--left us sorely unsatisfied. However, we did notice a few people getting take-out so I'm assuming that's the best way to go considering the wait service. All in all, I'm still interested in trying the "el jefe," but I will not be dining in next time. TAKE OUT IS THE WAY TO GO!

First time here, my experience was good. I enjoyed the environment. The music was great, the decorations on the table/walls were different. I liked it. I liked that most of the menu was free range. This restaurant is Mexican food and the menu had a good selection of food and not just your ordinary Mexican food. I ordered the FRESH Squeezed Orange Juice which was SO good!! Def worth the $4.00. I ordered Tres Skillet for 'breakfast' which was also really good. It had mushrooms/sausage/cheese/eggs with bacon bits and potatoes on the side. Really good! My friend ordered an Omelet and she said it was very good as well. I would def recommend this place and would go back again soon.

There is a serious shortage of dining options in the Mexican food category in this area, so I was excited when tres guppies opened. I was not disappointed. Although it was a bit pricier than the average Mexican restaurant, it does contribute meals to philabundance and an international organization--well worth the few extra dollars. I ordered mix and match tacos and was impressed by the flavor. Especially enjoyed the mushroom and cheese taco--original and delicious (especially for vegetarians). Ambience and atmosphere was great. I will definitely be going back!

Our meal started off with my wife ordering two appetizers and me ordering a main course, explaining that we wanted all of the food served at the same time. OK, so a bit of a glitch on the delivery of the dishes, as the quesadilla arrived by itself, but the short-rib quesadilla ($11) made up for it. It was delicious. The accompanying guacamole and the spicy pico de gallo made it even better. We waited with positive anticipation of the rest of the order. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. Watching everyone around us being served and wondering where the rest of our order was, our server did tell us that our main dish and soup would be coming soon. When the plates did arrive at our table, they were disappointing. I ordered the Pollo con Rajas ($17). The grilled chicken breasts were placed atop one another with some spices/vegetables between them, and covered with a good amount of cheese and sauce. What was missing was flavor. I expect that when I order Mexican food it will deliver quite a bit of flavor and at least a little spice. Even the rice served with my dish was bland. This dish delivered nothing but two tough chicken fillets, a sauce that was basically tasteless, with veggies that were mushy and nothing to write home about. My wife thought she ordered a chicken tortilla from the appetizer section of the menu, but actually was delivered chicken tortilla soup ($5). OK, so she went with it. Again, it was not what she expected. The soup had tortilla chips in the soup, making them rather soggy. The chips would have been better served on the side and used for dipping into the soup. I tasted the broth after she had eaten the rest of the soup, and it tasted basically like warm saline water to me. Not impressed. Upon waiting for the check, I noticed that a couple of grains of the rice from my dish fell into the narrow slats in the table top. Looking through the slats, I could see the remains of other meals where things were spilled. I suggest that tables with narrow slats are not a good and hygienic choice for a restaurant tabletop. I will not be returning to this restaurant. The food was bland and, frankly, expensive and disappointing.

Tres disappointing. Was excited to see a Mexican place on the Main Line, but not one that serves mediocre tacos for $5+ each (they weren't worth more than $3 apiece). I imagine the decor was going for shabby chic, but the taqueria vibe combined with bistro prices made for a dissonant experience. Let's hope the El Limon opening soon in Ardmore can do better for those of us who aren't charging our meal to Mom and Dad's credit card. Until then, you're better off making the trip into University City for Honest Tom's.

Had a great lunch at tres guppy yesterday. Had the tacos sampler. Mushroom/ Gouda was fantastic. Good guacamole with. warm chips. Tortilla soup was really good and the salad with chicken was gigantic and delicious! We will definitely be going back.

Upon eating there for my first and only time thus far, my first impression of the place was that they were short staffed. It's Saturday night, and there were maximum 3 waitresses, sharing the duties of hostess as well, to take care of what seemed like 55-65 customers. I think there were 2 cooks in the kitchen. The result of this is that our dining experience, a table of 2, was LONG. I'm talking almost +90 minutes just to eat some tacos. I like the mission they're on for donating meals and sourcing their food locally. For that, I don't mind paying a bit more, which I think is reflected in their prices. The food is not bad either. I got the Tequila Shrimp and thought they were delicious. The person I dined with had the tacos, and while nothing special, could be described as "good." From reading other reviews on here, my observation of them being short-staffed does not seem isolated to just my experience. For that reason, I'd probably only return sometime when there is no wait, because at the moment the staff is not adequate to handle the amount of tables they serve.

I ordered the braised short ribs but what came out was an extremely over cooked hunk of meat. Braised meat should be tender and this was not even close. For $23 I was expecting so much more. I never knew that Mexican food could be so bland. The only good thing is that my meal will feed a needy person in another country. Next time I will donate directly. This place has potential but if they keep serving food like this they won't last.
