Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Authentic and delicious Thai food! Some of the best I've had in the Philadelphia region. Just a charming restaurant with great serve and good ownership. Also, very quick takeout. The green curry is my fav dish, along with the lemongrass soup and basil chicken. Yum... writing this review just makes me want to order some takeout tonight :)

Good food, but very rude service and was demanded a high tip when only picking-up food.
(3)Mario B.
Good Thai, very close to the real one (check the pink napkins)

10% percent off the bill with yelp check in! A group of us shared our appetizers and entrees in family style. The service was adorable actually. Three polite and courteous woman helped us with our silly picture requests, wine bottles and large order. We didn't even have a reservation! The appetizer/entree names were hard to remember (sorry, it was a long night). I did take some photos of my plate although it's a mix of entrees altogether. Everything was light and perfect for the drinking partying crowd where we were heading later. I loved the chicken and cashew nut entree the best. Although, I wished there was more peppers it was a nice dish overall. The appetizer sampler was a hit, although no one really cared for the fried shrimp. Each appetizer had a very very small salad included. While the food didn't hit the 'wow' factor, I have the give credit to the fact that our food came out super quick. On top of that the price was a steal.

Really good thai food with reasonable prices, a great lunch menu, and fantastic service. My girlfriend and I stopped here for lunch on a Friday around noon. We were greeted warmly by an older woman (who turns out is the owner), who took our orders. The inside is spacious and tastefully decorated, but still small and intimate, and completely empty on a weekday. We ordered the Pad Thai ($9 lunch price) and a chicken, rice, and pineapple dish ($9 lunch price) that I can't seem to locate on their online menu (perhaps it's lunch only?) and two Thai Iced teas ($2.50). Pad Thai is the old Thai food standby, and we were not disappointed - very well prepared, large serving size, and fresh noodles and vegetables. The chicken-pineapple-rice dish was equally good - the rice was perfectly cooked, and the dish had generous chunks of chicken, pineapple, and other vegetables. The Thai Iced teas were sweeter than what I've had before, but still pretty good. Overall, some of the best Thai food in the area with very reasonable lunch prices. I suspect I'll be back multiple times in the future.

If parking weren't such a challenge id be here often. Great lunch specials for $8.95 Today i had mushroom soup, steamed dumplings and ginger tofu as the lunch special. Pretty place to dine with great service.

What is this place? Never eaten here and never will. Cant stand this place. Dirty employees with dirty tactics. In fact, i cant even believe a world where this place exists. Five stars.
(5)Jerry Z.
Really, a nice restaurant. The silk salad was beautifully prepared. Our party of four loved our entrees. Reasonably priced. Excellent ambiance. BYOB
(5)Cole E.
I've only snagged take out but the curry is on par and the service and timing was great. Reasonable pricing for the area and without competition as far as I'm concerned.

I have found that it is hard to find "good" Thai food in the Philly area. I enjoyed the flavorful food at Silk Cuisine but thought that the service left a lot to be desired. We were a party of four and the wait to be served was very long followed by an even longer wait for our food to be delivered. Then three of the four entrees came out and we all felt uncomfortable eating being that a member of our party had not yet been served. What we wanted to be a casual and relatively quick lunch turned into a two hour ordeal. The place is quite large and there was hardly anyone in there so I am not sure what the cause of the delay was. Although the food was good I don't see myself going back here anytime soon.

Dropped in for lunch with a friend one day and was pleasantly surprised. I had the Basil Chicken and it was very good. Had some soup, too, it was so-so. They do the "soda in a can" thing, which I'm never a fan of -- but they aren't alone in that. And as Thai places go, it is pretty good. They run a Yelp! 10% off special, but the owner had no idea how to apply it... so I just let it go. Maybe he's figured it out by now? Either way, the service was good -- and he was super friendly. We will certainly return!
(4)Kevin G.
Was there today for lunch. Only a few others there. Service was a little slow but could have been, I was in rush(?). Vegetable soup was hot, veggies were crisp, broth was good and not salty. Had Pad Thai and it was one of the best I've had. Chicken and tofu cooked well. A little spicy but not over the top. Very nice. The place was very clean including the washroom. I'd pass on the ice tea next time.
(4)Oe I.
Seriously good thai food. Even a good friend of my family that is thai was impressed!
(5)Sonia L.
Very good Thai food! Not oily and good quality vegetables and meats. We started with an excellent coconut soup. Our two favorite dishes were Panang curry and Thai basil chicken.
(4)Sandra M.
Great authentic Thai food! Definitely recommend this place!
(5)Mark V.
Ordered takeout, picking up an order of Spring Rolls, Spare Ribs, and two orders of Pad Thai (Chicken and Veggie). The springs rolls were passable, but the spare ribs were overly fatty, had very generic BBQ sauce on them, and were overall subpar. Pad Thai was incredibly bland, so much so that we had to add leftover sauce from another dish we'd made last week just to make it passable. To boot, the delivery service was very poor. Had to walk halfway down the block to find my delivery person after giving both him and the dispatcher directions (to a main road, mind you). Would not recommend at all.

Went there out of pure random, spontaneous decision. It turned out to be fairly decent place despite it being empty as a graveyard when we first walked in. Apparently who seemed to be the owner was hidden behind the front desk and I had hoped she did not hear my offhand comment about how empty it was. But we decided to stay and ordered in. It was kind of late and on a Sunday night to boot. The drunken noodle was not on the main menu, which I thought was odd but it was available. And it was good! Surprisingly good. The vegetables were cooked well, still crunchy on the outside but warm in the inside. The flat noodles were nicely flavored. I asked for spicy which it was. Not too hot and not too weak. There were a few takeout orders that people came to take during our meal and I thought that was a great idea. If I'm eating out, having other people eat there would even out the experience. I would try here again. Takeout for sure. Eat in when the hours are better.

My regular Thai place is closed on Saturday for lunch so my husband and I stopped in at Silk Cuisine which we had never tried before. The menu was pretty boring compared to other places I've been, but the lunch special was only 10 dollars, which is very reasonable. I had the lemongrass soup which was very good. My chicken dumping appetizer had a little to much sauce on it but was good otherwise. As for my meal, I had the green curry, which was not very spicy at all. I enjoyed the flavor, but felt it was too salty after awhile. Conclusion, I would return here for a cheap lunch, but it was not as authentic as I wanted it to be.
(3)Herbie H.
I went to Silk Cuisine on a recent Saturday night and it was surprisingly empty (maybe 5 other parties). The atmosphere was nice - somewhat cozy, despite being a pretty big seating area. The menu was pretty standard Thai. Various curry dishes, Thai favorites (Pad Thai, etc.) and some special dishes. Both my friend and I got Drunken Noodles with Chicken. It was really delicious. The vegetables were crisp and fresh and the portion was just big enough. Overall, the entire experience was enjoyable. I had a great meal, and the fact that it was a BYO was a nice plus. The service was nice, friendly, and prompt. If I'm in the Bryn Mawr area again craving Thai, I'd definitely go back.
(3)Jackie R.
Very good thai restaurant. I stick to the vegetarian red curry and it is delicious. I'm not a fan of tofu so I usually ask for more veggies in it's place. The portion size is very big and satisfying. Normally I don't get an appetizer and the main course is plenty of food for me. I never leave hungry. Another great aspect - it's super cheap! I'm talking less than $9 for a main course. It's a steal. Whether we've done pickup or eat-in we've always had great service. We'll be back soon.
(4)Luna G.
I came here tonight with two friends, and we had a very good meal. I had an authentic bowl of spicy and sour shrimp lemongrass soup. Although it was a tad salty, I still thought it was fantastic: I salivate just thinking about it. I also ordered Jim's Tofu, a dinner special consisting of crispy, deep-fried tofu over salad with a chile-fish sauce dressing. Salivating again. Both my dining partners had the red curry. I was able to take a spoonful of the sauce, and it was very coconutty. The portions are generous, as are the owners. When we notified them of our friend's gluten sensitivity, they sincerely wanted to make sure that he'd have a tummy-friendly meal, and listed the ingredients of dishes he was considering.

Love Silk Cuisine! Fantastic Thai food and excellent service. BYOB and surprisingly affordable. Overall a great experience and will continue to come back.
(5)Beth B.
Silk Cuisine is one of my favorite restaurants. Pad See Ew is addictive, all other Pad Thai's are sub par compared to theirs, love the lemongrass soup & red curry. Mmm!!!! Great service too, they pay attention to you when you need them to (more water for spicy food!!) and let you be when you don't need them. Can't wait to go back!!
(5)Art B.
Just came from having lunch there. I lived in Sydney, Australia for many years. That city is blessed with outstanding Thai restaurants. Silk was a total disappointment. I had the lunch special. The chicken and rice soup was terrible. I don't know how they managed to undercook rice in a soup but the rice was raw. I also had the chicken dumplings. They were cold and seemed like they had been pre-heated in a microwave and let stand for a while. Finally, I had the pad see ew. It did not come with flat wide noodles, but with Italian ziti instead! It was terrible. I'd never be back.
(1)Alison J.
Strange experience. Ate in with two friends after having a great experience with Silk's catering. We ordered the veggie spring rolls, but they gave us the meat spring rolls. We didn't realize this until we had eaten one and they refused to take the charge off of our bill or provide us with the veggie rolls. We were given a small plate of rice for 4 people and 4 entrees and they charged us an additional $2 for another single portion. I heard other diners complaining that they were given the wrong order and the staff just replied with a shrug. The food was fine, mediocre for the experience and price. I won't go back, mostly because of the service, and will head to Siamese Princess instead. Much better food, atmosphere, selection, and service.
(2)Steven S.
Pretty good. Fast service. Dumplings were tasty, as was the basil chicken. Ordered it extra spicy but it wasn't spicy enough. We'll be back.
(4)Janna W.
This was my favorite restaurant in undergrad! The Siam noodle dish is the perfect blend of flavors as well as being healthy and nutritious. The mushroom soup is not be missed - nice and thick with plenty of mushrooms in it. The owner is the sweetest lady who will remember you and greet you warmly! Loved coming back for a visit and having my fav. Dish made specially. I haven't found a Thai place as good as this in NY yet (if that's even possible)!

I stopped in for lunch this past week and, being somewhat pressed for time, ordered off the lunch Special menu. At 11:50, I was one of two patrons which was ominous in itself. Seated in a wooden chair nearing collapse and tolerating the beat of Asian Top 40 on the radio helped set the mood. My lukewarm chicken and rice soup could have been OK if hotter. Unlike another reviewer, my rice was cooked but the cilantro overpowered all other ingredients. Intrigued by the Corn Cake appetizer, I took the bait to see how they were prepared. Well. again, two tiny room temperature nuggets arrived - not much different from my grandmother's corn fritters except for the sweet and sour sauce with ground peanuts. However, my attention was more focused on the main course (having arrived simultaneously with my corn cakes) which took me by dull surprise. C'mon, folks, when you order a pasta dish in a Thai place, aren't your expecting either rice noodles or bean thread noodles? Well, Silk Cuisine seems to think good ol' rigatoni in a chili and fish sauce dumped on spring mix will fool the masses. My attentive waitress inquired if I'd be having one of their $4.50 food service pack ice cream logs for dessert, which I declined as I paid and bolted for the door. RIGATONI?

Fantastic pad thai and thai basil dishes. Great ambiance -- feels like a more high-end restaurant, but prices are better than many hole-in-the-wall Thai places.
(5)M K.
I was very pleased with both my appetizer (coconut chicken soup) and my entree (chicken panang curry). The food was excellent with strong yet delicate flavors, nicely spiced. I was left wanting more. My friend also had the soup, and the shrimp pad thai, and liked both. The place was large and nicely decorated. Service was very attentive but not intrusive, with my water glass regularly refilled (I drink a LOT of water) without my needing to ask for it. However, we were not rushed and were able to relax over our meal and afterward. I wish I lived closer, but I'll make a point to return, regardless.
(5)Dave B.
I can't believe I live this close and this is my first visit. Fantastic meal. Pad Thai was about as good as it gets. Red Curry Veg was excellent with a thick sauce that was nice and spicy. Service was great. Dinner with two appetizers & tip less than $40! We'll be back for sure.

We love everything about Silk, consistently fresh delicious authentic Thai food, remarkably inexpensive, very friendly service, byob and you can have a conversation with friends without yelling or going deaf, even on a Saturday night. We have been regular customers since friends first introduced us to Silk 5 years ago. The crispy duck is amazing and it comes with a side of fresh vegetables. The lady in green salmon is another favorite as is the Pad Thai and curry dishes. The silk salad is generous, fresh and honey mustard dressing to die for. The Som Tum salad is big enough for two. The wonton soup is flavorful with delicate wontons and the coconut soup is silky and light. The marinated beef appetizer is enough for a main course if you don't like huge portions. Eventhough I am not big on desserts, the coconut custard is not to be missed, an order is 4 bite sized cups of sublime warm custard. It is irresistible. Whether you are a vegetarian or omnivore, there are many dishes to chose from. Unlike many Asian restaurants, the food is just as good if you get it to go and enjoy at home.

This is the best Thai I have ever had anywhere in or around Philly. Yes, the place is always empty and quiet. Yes, water glasses are not always topped off immediately (though I have never felt ignored). However, the food is excellent. For appetizers, we love their spring rolls, chicken satay, coconut soup, and especially their corn cakes (which I haven't found anywhere else). For entrees, we love their curries and pad thai. Whenever we are craving Thai, we make the trek out to Bryn Mawr to get the best. Smile Cafe is a close second, but Silk Cuisine is still our favorite!
(5)Matt B.
After seeing it's rating for solid food in my 2009 Zagats Guide, Silk had been on my short list of places to try on the Main Line. FOOD: Quality Thai at reasonable prices. SERVICE: Good. Not as bad as others have indicated. PRICE: Definitely a solid value. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised with the bill when it arrived. It's a BYOB, so that always helps. DECOR/ATMOSPHERE: You don't go here for the ambiance. Because there is none. Cheesy Asian wall art and Bhuda statues with water tricking out.
(4)Rosa V.
Silk is ok within the context of the limited options on the Main Line. I have been here several times and always find myself asking why I pay so much for such a mediocre meal... I wish I could say the service is its redeeming quality, but it's generally hit or miss.
(2)Sam T.
The food was good. I've had both crab and shrimp pad thai and a variety of appetizers. The service was fast and polite.
(4)Jessica N.
I never got around to reviewing this place while I was an undergrad at Bryn Mawr, but now that I'm back out here visiting, I need to give this place its due. I love the fact that it's never busy inside- plenty of people order take out rather than sit down (hey, there are lots of schools nearby), so it's nice to just be able to sit down in a quiet space and eat some nice, hot thai food. I always get the pad thai and one of the curries to share with a friend. Their service is fast and friendly. All in all, a nice little spot to eat!
(4)Madeleine T.
Delivery here again. I can't remember my specific thoughts on the red curry, but this time it was less than mediocre. No spice, it was ehh bland. Just okay. The only thing keeping me from rating them 2 stars is their Pad Thai which is pretty tasty. Everything else, ehhh okay. However, I'll probably order again for a cheap Thai that will hold me over until I go back home to California.
(3)Erin A.
Decent Thai takeout, but not worth it to come and sit in the restaurant. Green Curry was acceptable, but nothing amazing and the Pad Thai was also of a decent, but not amazing quality. Three stars because it'll stay on my take-out menu. Nothing offensive, but nothing amazing either.
(3)Frank X.
This place is simply amazing. I've eaten here three times, twice was take out. I tried the Cornish hen, and it was not that great. The meat was almost flavorless and I definitely prefer the Chickens you get at Costco. However, their Crab Meat Pad Thai is exquisite. They use real crab meat, it's not the imitation one. Their "drunken noodle" is also delicious. I asked for extra spicy, and it was exactly that. I love to eat spicy food, and whenever I asked for extra spicy at the Chinese restaurants at BM, it was no where near the level of spice I am used to. However, the drunken noodle at Silk Cuisine is EXTRA spicy. I love this place so much that I went to get take out when it was snowing outside. I do have two complaints about this place: 1. They do not deliver. 2. It is expensive. (The Crab Meat Pad Thai was around 18 dollars) Other than that, this place is simply amazing!
(5)Sheila L.
I come here ever month. I always order the same thing -- their green curry, which may be the best I've ever had. Its so creamy and spicy. Yum. My boyfriend always orders the panang curry which is also perfect. Their lemon grass soups aren't spectacular. But I would recommend their mussels in lemon grass broth, which they sometimes serve as a special. Price: Reasonable. Service: Very Good, seems to be family owned. Food: Fantastic for curries. Atmosphere: Casual, nice for a sit down dinner that won't empty your wallet.
(4)Tiffany G.
This is my favorite Main Line Thai place. I actually rent an apartment above it now after eating here for two years and I'm loving being so close. One of my exchange student sister's was Thai so I'm very familiar with the cuisine. I have tried many things on the menu, my favorite being vegetable pad thai and my least favorite being a cold crab and tomato soup but a dining companion who had ordered it loved it, so I guess that's just taste. My only complaints are that I wish the prices were slightly lower and they do not offer a 'fresh' (non fried/summer) spring roll. Bonus points for adorable straw paper decorations in the Thai iced tea.
(4)Devon C.
Excellent food and service. Atmosphere was a little dull due to the fact that we were the only people in the entire place but I'm not complaining because it was a very peaceful and relaxing meal. Everything was cooked to order, fresh and delivered promptly. The waitresses were always there to fill our water glasses. Prices were very reasonable. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who enjoys Thai food!
(4)Richard B.
My wife and I are lovers of Thai food. We recently moved into the neighborhood and have been looking for Thai to become a favorite. We found it at silk. While my wife enjoyed some pork curry, I chicken basil stir fry that was cooked to perfect in a great tasting chili paste. Can't wait to go back and try other dishes on the menu that intrigued. me.
(4)Utteeyo D.
I have come here twice for lunch. They have a reasonable lunch deal. The entrees are quite flavorful. Their yellow curry and fried fish are tasty. However, avoid their mushroom soup. It is an over-sweetened strange concoction. The server was strangely unwelcoming both the times I visited. She greeted us with an "Yes?" that almost felt like "What business do you have here?"!!! However, once she starts serving she is much more pleasant.
(3)Maria D.
I loved going to this place. I enjoy it when a restaurant is not crowded, and this one is always calm and quiet. Like most Asian cuisine restaurants, most people order out therefore there are not usually a lot of people in the actual restaurant eating. I'm okay with that. The food here is AWESOME, I love the cashew chicken with pineapples. Great for a quiet date OR a big group. I was organizing a dinner for a group of 20 and they were very accommodating! The only bad thing is that once I sat down and looked at my (clean, empty) plate and there was a bug on it. I won't say cockroach, but it was esque. They replaced it immediately, but it was unappetizing. Would still go back here and recommend the restaurant.
(4)Lauren H.
This place is almost always dead when I go there, but I can't really understand why. The menu is large and decently priced, and there are so many options, even for those who aren't that fond of Thai cuisine. I recommend the Pad Thai and the "fiery" cornish hen, which the wait staff lit on fire (flambed? I'm obviously not a foodie) right in front of us. I'm a sucker for pyrotechnics. Service is pleasantly quick. Overall, it is not that memorable of a place, but it's a good place to go with friends for a dinner.
(3)Jason L.
Good thai food and great for groups, dates and parents. The staff here are really sweet and I've trekked here on foot through snow many a times.
(5)Sarah B.
Silk is the restaurant that made me fall in love with Thai food! Although I have not been here since moving out of the area around 6 months ago, I can say that of the dozen or so times I have eaten here it has been consistently good. The pad thai was my favorite dish and the wonton soup is still the best that I have ever had.
(4)Tony H.
I've had some good meals here and some bad ones recently. Shame as it had a good reputation which it is losing. It's a little run down both inside and out. The service is fine as is the price. Just a damn shame about the food or I would be in here all the time.
(2)Stu S.
Visiting Bryn Mawr and chose Silk Cuisine for take-out dinner on night before Thanksgiving. Good decision. Pad thai, noodle salad, chicken salad, ginger chicken, green curry chicken all excellent. Order was ready when promised.
(5)Dave H.
Family and I ate at Silk Cuisine on a weekend awhile ago. Their restaurant's cooking isn't mind-blowing, but it's not horrible either. They state that they have "authentic Thai cuisine", and I remember everything (including my phad thai) being okay. Shamefully, we had horrible "service", basically being ignored. We were virtually the only ones in the restaurant, which made the lack of service all the more glaring. (UPDATE: Looks like they've improved their ways since I've been there, based on other reviewers. One of these days, I'll have to pay them a visit.) You can get better, cheaper Thai in the neighborhood. Your mileage may vary, however.
(2)Stephen S.
We had a delightful evening and enjoyed two excellent specials. Pud thai with fresh lump crab meat and soft shell crab on top was outstanding. The flavor of the underlying noodle mixture made my taste buds sing.. There was plentiful fresh lump crabmeat on top, and a large very tasty soft shell crab as well. The crispy duck in a special sauce had a delightful texture and flavor. It came with fresh delicious vegetables. The meal was made more pleasurable by the attentive pleasant service. Considering the quality and quantity of the food, a very good deal! This restaurant remains at the top of our list of Main Line destinations.
