Boyfriend and I go here all the time for their cheesesteak and Italian hoagie, hands down the best in town.

Sorry, this review is before I eve tasted the food. We walked in and was greeted by one of the six guys behind the counter (he was the best part of the experience). He was super nice and sweet. My mother-in-law ordered a steak and cheese and the rest of us tried to figure out what we wanted. As we reviewed the menu, we noticed one of the guys smoking a cigarette behind he counter, near the food. Thankful he wasn't making the sandwiches and walked into the back. Turn off, but manageable. Soon after he came back and started making putting mayo on a sub roll! WHAT??? Was that for my mom? Didn't know and didn't care! Did he wash his hands, because he didn't have on gloves! Too late, took a closer look and saw how the veggies were kept, uncovered and exposed enough to attract anything. We cancelled our order and rolled out. Unfortunately, we had to deal with something else, so it worked out. The nice guy behind the counter actually ran outside to catch us because the meat was already done. We explained our medical emergency and he was still sweet and understood. This place was recommended as the best for hoagies, but we don't eat ash and smoke, so we will never know. Sad experience. 5for the nice guy! 1for the experience!

My girlfriend told me this is her favorite cheesesteak spot. We got a cheesesteak and an old fashioned italian and split them. The cheesesteak was good, tons of flavor, good roll, but it seemed to be lacking some thing, salt and pepper maybe? Not cheese? Definitely a solid 3 star cheesesteak. The old fashioned italian was one of the best I've had, on my top 10. Piled high with sharp prov and prosciutto, THIS is a sandwich! The neighborhood is sketchy, not quite Chester but almost there. Park in the used car dealership next door!

Friends told us this was a great place for cheesesteaks so we gave them a try this weekend. WOW! One of the best I have ever had. Absolutely huge! The prices aren't very cheap, but they are worth it. Two large cheesesteak, two orders of cheese fries were $38.40. There was so much meat on it, we will split one next time. We couldn't eat them in one sitting. So the price is justified. Parking can be a challenge during rush hour time, as it is street only. Will definitely return.

Realleeee good cheesesteaks. Use real, not frozen chip steak. We always get some when in area. They put cherry hot peppers on the side in a baggie. More of a take out place but do have stools in the back. Parking on street out front, during busy times of day (rush hour), it's hard to find parking. Always good selection of sodas (black cherry, root beer) you don't find everywhere. Lots of snack foods on front counter. Have a bunch of different types of hoagies (Italian Special, American, Prosciutto, Nigerian(?), etc) but we've never tried. I hear they are fabulous too. Also have hot dogs, grilled cheese, burgers, etc. This place has been around forever and for good reason.

I know. I know. It's 4, but so worth it, bread is fresh, nice staff, friendly, the Nigerian hoagie is my new fav, would have been 5 but not much of a nonpork menu, even vegetarian would be nice, but owner is old school, nothing wrong with that, worth a trip, even maybe worth driving over the Commander Barry bridge for a quick visit from the new job, would come back again!! Pssst, no corned beef sandwich either or turkey pastrami just quick FYI #WORTHAVISIT

Now THIS place is the standard by which all cheesesteaks and hoagies should be judged! They always use the freshest of meats. Those incredible meats are PILED on great bread. When I have family or friends visit from out of the area this is where I take them for a true taste of the area. Forget about those famous steak places - Phil & Jims is the real deal.

You will pass this little shop if your not looking for it. I've driven past here 100 times, and only after I saw the yelp reviews did I venture inside. And I am glad I did next chicken cheese steak ever. The bread is super soft, chicken chopped up nice and thin. I had mayo and pickles and ketchup. 8.75 for a good size cheese steak. Will I be back, yes mam!

Can't visit Delaware County without an Italian Special! I have been going to Phil & Jim's for as long as I can remember. Even though I moved away from Delaware County over 25 years ago, I still crave their hoagies and have never been able to find anything even close. Phil & Jim's was always the first stop after the airport and the last stop (travel hoagies) before heading back to the airport.

I work up in KOP and my go to place is Dalessandro's, but Friday rush hour was not the time to head that direction. Instead, I took the back roads down to Chester and came across Phil & Jim's (via Yelp). I'm so glad that I did. As stated by other reviewers, they guys at Phil & Jim's are quite a bunch. Even though I was not from the neighborhood, they treated me like a local (thanks Chris!). I ended up getting a pizza steak, regular steak, and italian hoagie. They survived a 3 hour ride back to DC and I got my chance to see if it was a worthwhile stop...and it definitely was! Even after 3 hours, the steak was flavorful, juicy, and fantastic. Their sauce is tasty and they cook it into the steak, not just spoon it on top. All in all, totally worth the stop. To the point where Dalessandro's might not be a stop on the way home anymore. As for the hoagie, they are generous with the toppings, but I didn't think it had much flavor. So the long and short of it, Phil & Jim's is great for steaks. I will be back soon for the great steaks!

1 out of 2 stars for Food 1 out of 1 stars for Service 1 out of 1 stars for Cleanliness 0 out of 1 stars for Atmosphere They produce an average cheesesteak. Small in comparison to the giant steaks at Leo's (Folcroft), less flavor too. Service was fast and pleasant. Not a dine-in place.

No better way to hit the spot than grabbing a cheesesteak! The guys at Phil & Jim's know how to make a darn good cheesesteak! They're very outgoing, courteous, and even send you away with some extra goodies. Chris served us and made sure we got everything we requested. That was no easy task: 4 girls. Each a different dietary requirement. He personally made sure everyone got exactly what they wanted. He even threw in an extra order of fries b/c they made too many. Suffice to say- everyone went home (or to our hotel) happy. We all got cheesesteaks with the works. Mine included toasted bread (you can request this); both sweet and spicy peppers; mushrooms (cost a little extra); onions; pickles; tomatoes; lettuce; cheese; mayo; ketchup... and a whole lot of other good stuff. My pallet was beyond satisfied. Since we're from the West Coast, we had friend from Philly try our dinner. His "one" bite turned into several. He was hooked. Not bad when a good, juicy dinner totals only about $8 each! We literally drove up from Maryland for the night so we could get cheesesteaks. I would definitely return for great service and delicious food!

I'm from out-of-town, and from my perspective every corner in Philly has a sub shop claiming to have the best cheesesteak in town. I've tried all of the tourist recommended places downtown, and have learned the best kept secrets usually aren't the places tourists flock to. I tried p&j's based upon the other Yelp reviews. I wasn't disappointed - their cheesesteak was yummy and a good value, I just wasn't overly impressed. It was rather bland and none of the flavors jumped out at me. Not bad, but nothing special.

They won't short you on anything here, and a cheesesteak and a drink won't set you back too much. But there's also not much in the way of a dine in area and I think that is one aspect that Must be improved upon. By comparison, Dalessandro's has more elbow room at the table, and that's absurd. Also falls another star short for failing to provide any better options than american cheese. There should be provolone, and there should be other cheese options too. The other options provided for sandwiches such as lettuce tomato mushrooms are there but I did without them.

I've ordered from here a couple times now and really like their Cheesesteaks, both beef and chicken. Today it was a little weak on mushrooms and onions, maybe because of lunch hour, but I did order ahead. Given the fact that you risk your life to get their, they should be friendly and aim to please and they deliver on both. Now if only they "delivered"..... Solid place!

My mother (bless her heart) loaded up on hoagies from Phil & Jim's, packed them into her insulated cooler bag and hauled 'em on out to Phoenix tonite. Man alive!! Those were the best REAL hoagies I've had in ages! My aunt called in the order ahead of time and Phil & Jim's wrapped them for travel. They took extra care in wrapping up the meat & veggies separately and double wrapped all the hoagies in butcher paper. Phil & Jim's generously sent along 4 huge ziplocks of sweet peppers, cherry peppers, pickles and chopped onions to make our meal complete. They said they pack and ship hoagies all over the place. These guys obviously know what they're doing! Mom also brought along some great tastes of Philly; Tasty-Kakes, soft pretzels from WaWa and Weavers sweet Lebanon Bologna from ACME. We indulged Philly style with some of my fave Kutztown Birch Beer I'd picked up at Pop the Soda Shop ( yelp.com/biz/pop-the-sod… ) in Scottsdale. Big props to Phil & Jim's for the TOP (Taste Of Philly) all the way here in arid Phoenix!

Yes! Can we say a perfect 5 stars! The cheesesteak has to be in the top three in the Philly area. The Hoagie may be the best in the area. Get the special hoagie and the pizza steak. You will be in heaven!

Definitely the BEST Philly cheesesteak I have ever had. My favorite & I have tried 5 different places since I moved out here.... SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. I LOVED it. Delicious. Oh & it was soooooo reasonably priced. If I it were healthier for me, I'd eat there 3-4 times a week! Yumm!!!

My family has been getting our hoagies and cheesesteaks from here for probably close to 30 years. Phil & Jim's is the gold standard upon which everything is based, in my opinion. You don't go to Phil & Jim's for the ambiance, people. I really don't think it was intended to be an eat-in place. Just get your order and go, enjoy the deliciousness at home or in your car. Contrary to what another person wrote, they do have Provolone cheese. The food is simple, but it's delicious and in generous portions. You have to know how to order. "Turkey with provolone, mayo - no oil, everything sweet." This will get you a turkey and cheese hoagie with sweet peppers, onions, pickles, tomatoes and lettuce. Personally, my favorite way to enjoy a Phil & Jim's hoagie. The term "everything sweet" may be a Delaware County thing, for all I know. Oh, and if you like tuna hoagies, you need to asked for the tuna to be mixed with mayo, if you like it that way. They also make a giant cheeseburger that is seriously underrated. Their food is fresh and it's a great old school hoagie shop. I'm probably biased because this is the hoagie shop of my youth, but I have directed countless numbers of people here who all give me positive feedback about their food experience. Long live Phil & Jim's!

Thanks to Phil and Jim's Delicatessen! I used to live in Philly for 28 years before moving to California. I was home for the holidays and was visiting a high school friend in Wallingford. Thanks to the new iphone - I can get yelp from whereever and yelped this 5 star place to have lunch. It is a little "mom and pop" place - Just the way I like it. To my surprise - I think it is the BEST hoagie I've ever had in Philly and I LIVED there for 28 years! It is not a neighborhood that I would be anywhere near when I did live in Philly so thanks Yelp for pointing it out and Thanks Phil and Jim for the amazing hoagie and being open New Year's Eve. (The bread was so fresh and all the ingredients blended together wonderfully.) Plus - great price for GIANT amounts of food. (Believe me - a "small" hoagie is enought food.)
