I am a huge fan of their bagels. My usual is either a cinnamon raisin bagel with butter or I go with ham and egg on a sesame bagel. Unlike other bagel shops, they grill the ham and egg instead of popping it in the microwave. It's so delicious! They have a huge menu. This is now my favorite spot in Lehigh Valley since moving here 6 months ago!

5 stars for a quick, easy and cheap egg and cheese sandwich. They also have the best bagels I have ever tried! Very fresh and soft.

I've been a big fan of Johnny since I moved here and still am. We need a location in Hellertown. The Bagel Basket can't compete and they always screw up my order by putting cheese on everything. Get an orange juice, a cinnamon sugar bagel (straight, nothing on it), and enjoy a genuine bagel shop experience.

I have been here for lunch and really enjoyed it. I try to go a little early to beat the rush and it's worth it every time. Nestled right in the heart of downtown Bethlehem, this little deli serves up yummy sandwiches and small-town feelings with deli attitude. Fresh breads, good meat, delicious cheese. I will be back again and again!

I ordered a spice chai latte as well as a salmon and light cream cheese whole wheat bagel. Everything tasted really good! The bagel is denser than what I am used to from Jersey and NYC, but it was tasty nonetheless. The spice chai also had a nice kick. The deli itself is spacious and clean. The lack of curtesy response words from the cashier can be improved.

Stopped by for quick afternoon snack after long walk to the Steelstacks and back. Bagel with turkey and cheese and the Bethlehem special hit the spot at a reasonable price. Check it out!

I grew up in New Jersey, and since moving to Pennsylvania, I have been unable to find a decent bagel, let alone an edible breakfast sandwich. That is, until I arrived at Johnny's Bagels. Their bacon, egg, and Swiss cheese on an everything bagel is so incredibly good. Service is fast and full of personality. The menu items are inexpensive, as they serve the local college crowd (Moravian, Lehigh). The coffee is organic and fair trade, I believe, and always piping hot. I usually grab a cup of fresh-squeezed OJ by the counter as well. When the weather is nice, I always opt for their sidewalk seating. Main Street in Bethlehem is absolutely beautiful, and part of why I love Johnny's so much.

I had a bagel sandwich here. I would try them again, though to be honest I think the bagels from the guy at the Allentown Farmers Market (trucked in from Brooklyn) and Wegmans' bagels are both better bagel options.

Was looking forward to trying out Johnnys Bagels. Being from upstate NY I have been spoiled with hearth baked or water boiled bagels that are crispy, yet tender and chewie on the inside. The bagels at Johnnys resembled the shape and texture of a Hamburger Bun or dinner roll... what an unsettling discovery! I got bacon scallion cream cheese... the cream cheese itselft lacked any flavor whatsoever, and when placed on my toasted bagel, it melted to a frothy, yogurt goey mess. I mean, whens the last time melted cream cheese ran down your fingers and hand like milk? Why was it so watery? With zero flavor? I was less than pleased! My guest got a sesame bagel with garden veggie cream cheese. yes there were cut veggies in the cream cheese... but what a awkward texture and taste! The veggies used didnt seem fresh, and didnt "crunch", and the veggies didnt even taste ripe! We think the cream cheese had unripened tomato in it? Oh gross dude. ALL AND ALL... WE WILL BE SKIPPING THIS PLACE FOREVER! Wegmans has the best fresh bagels in the area. Worth the extra effort to grab some fresh bagels in the morning and being them home and toast them yourself! Steer clear from Johnnys... coffee was medicore, and fair, but dont do the bagels. You will be let down. What a bummer! I had huge hopes of what I considered the only local bagel shoppe in the area! Way to let us down, Johnnys! #kindapissed #kindagrossedout #wontbeback

Back in my college days at Moravian, Johnny's was a staple. It's been years since I stopped in but I was hungry and decided to give it a try. I stopped in around 12:30 on a Wednesday. I was a bit surprised it was dead for the usual lunch rush time. There was a couple sitting outside and just me. I ordered the Herby Turkey on a sesame bagel. The man taking my other was rather grumpy and wouldn't move to the side so I could see the bagel options, so sesame sounded like a normal choice. My sandwich was good but had way to much of the spread they use, it was oozing out the sides. Also very pricey for a sandwich and iced tea I paid almost $11! I could have gone to Brew Works for that price!

My family and I have frequented Johnny's Bagels and Deli for years. Their bagels are always fresh and their specialty cream cheeses are to die for (personal favorite--garlic and herb). They have a wide selection of bagels, omelettes, sandwiches, burgers, gyros, soups, coffee, specialty drinks--you name it, this deli has it. The Main St. Bethlehem location may be a little overwhelming for first-timers but don't let the small-ish, semi-cramped counter area intimidate you; you'll miss out on fantastic bagels. Johnny's recently opened another location in Downtown Allentown and I go there almost every week. I've never had a bad experience at Johnny's; the staff is friendly although sometimes during the breakfast and lunch rush they may be a little busy and preoccupied but that's understandable. 10/10

The general theme of the negative reviews are : RUDE SERVICE! Dear Johnny, Why don't you correct this? It seems simple. Hire staff that understand without the customer they don't have a job. I asked the girl what kind of bagels they had, she rolled her eyes and then pointed at the wall. She turned to her co- worker and stated she can't wait to go home. My sandwich was good but was over shadowed by the awful staff. I asked the guy where the bathroom was? He said ..."Outside, anywhere you want, go right , go left , just go outside if you want to go." So. Stinking. Rude.

(South Bethlehem) If you are a bagel snob from NYC I guess you won't like it. That aside, Johnny's always provides a good meal, albeit you need to know what to order. The wraps are typically a bad value for how much food you're getting. The prices are a little high even for things such as breakfast sandwiches (compared to The Goosey Gander, for example), but the meals are always cooked quickly and the employees are adept at dealing with large crowds. Last year's renovations really improved the order flow and general look of the place. My only complaint is that the potatoes served with omelettes are almost never fresh (you can watch them pour them out of some metal container onto the griddle). Aside from that, orders are prepared quickly and, don't be shocked, but, sometimes they'll mess your order up! It really isn't the end of the world. Johnny's is exactly what it should be.

Just ate half a sausage egg n cheese and couldn't finish it. The sausage was so spoiled it nearly made me puke.

The bagels were good and the large selection of extras available added interesting choices. They use Square for payment processing which people either like or don't like.

Gross. Worst hamburger I have ever had at a restaurant. Dirty and cold. Great location on Lehigh campus but don't go out of your way.

Got an egg and cheese on an everything bagel and a coffee here for breakfast on a recent trip to the Lehigh Valley. The breakfast sandwich was amazing. This was, by far, the best bagel I've had since moving back to PA from New York City. The coffee was meh--reminded me of hotel/Dunkin Donuts coffee. Up your coffee game, and I'd move this review up to five stars!

Cashier was on his phone for 10 minutes while the line stacked up behind us. Definitely need serious customer service training. Beyond that, the food and coffee are good, but not OMG great.

I stopped in to grab a late breakfast with some friends. While everyone else was enjoying their breakfast sandwiches I decided to try the chicken chipotle panini. A+ on the sandwich. It was delicious and very filling. It even came with two pickle spears, three apple slices and half of a chocolate cupcake. If I had any knock on Johnny's it's their hot chocolate. While it was very warm and helped me out on the cold day it wasn't the tastiest thing I ever had. That being said I would still go back to Johnny's for some good eating.

  • Eric S.

Service was atrocious. Food was expensive with poor presentation. Quality of food was good but where is it? Cheese steak was all sauce with a pickle on top. Nothing on receipts were labled, so big orders beware. They charged 5.99 for a monster energy drink labeled big red bull. The cook laughed at my girlfriend for ordering a butter bagel which they charge 1 dollar for butter. Almost certain some of the employees were smoking pot.

We walked out. Stood in line for 15 minutes, *fifteen* minutes before someone took our order. Then watched a guy too lazy to put on gloves handle all of the bagels. Realized that two groups ahead of us didn't even receive their food yet, so we walked out.

I visited here based on recommendations from Yelp. On the surface, this place looks really cool and is huge for a cafe/deli shop. I'm giving this place one star because I placed my order at the counter and because of poor communication and a confusing system for visitors I waited over 20 minutes for a breakfast sandwich (which was average once I ate it). This would have been a 3 star review, however the employees didn't even offer any kind of compensation for waiting for so long.

updated: The last few times I've craved a bagel I walked over to Johnny's and my choice of bagel was fresh and chewy and yummy. I'm still not a fan but I'm no longer offended. :)

Good salty bagels. Good breakfast sandwhich options with egg and thick sliced bacon. Good service. Good prices. Nothing was great, but it was all good.

I venture out here for the Engineering library usually for work-related research. I sometimes have a craving for breakfast or lunch depending on when I get on-campus. Well, I had their bagels which are really good. There are also the reject bagels which may be burnt slightly or misshapened ones. 6 bagel bunch for $1.99 bag (sometimes mixed and other times same) I also had the traditional Devon sandwich with focaccia bread. It was good and nice dressing to balance the sandwich.

I'm a bit confused at so many rave reviews of bagels that taste like NYC or Jersey. We go to NYC and my boyfriend is from Jersey, and we eat bagels there CURRENTLY, not long ago, and they taste far better than a Johnny's Bagel does today. They are, as another reviewer complained, often out of most of their flavors. I've not been able to get a sesame bagel in ages. That said, it "can be" a pleasant place to pop into when downtown, with plenty of seating inside and outside and comfy couches to relax and people watch while you enjoy a cup of coffee and eat your sandwich, depending on who is working there that day. I used to love this little Main Street store, because it has a nice selection of foods other than bagels as well until they hired this beastly man named Ali. He is ill-tempered, rude, condescending in every way. If you tell him you want separate checks he will ignore you until after he rings you up, and you have to be very assertive with him to get what you want. If you tell him you want your coffee in a ceramic cup and even point to it, he gives you attitude. If you ask him what coffee flavors are brewing, he turns his face away from you and says them as fast as he can in a heavy accent, causing you to ask him 3 more times. I'm rather good with accents since I used to work with many different cultures and traveled to many countries. Good natured people slow down their speech when misunderstood; he does just the opposite and turns away from you. This is not a young man who just came off the boat, and the condescending smirk on his face tells you that this is no language barrier, he is behaving this way because, well, because he can. Johnny, you need to do something about this jerk, because you've lost plenty of the local's business since you hired him. If you are lucky enough to get Angel as your server, then you will have, and no pun intended, a heavenly time. This fellow is as customer service oriented as ever. With a smile on his face, he will do whatever it takes to make your visit pleasant. He also has a thick accent, but he slows the words down if you don't understand him because he understands that communication is the art of service. Why an owner would screw up his own business by hiring a resentful, hateful jerk like Ali is really one of the mysteries of faith. So, if you want to have an enjoyable time at this place, call ahead to see who is working.

I like Johnny's Bagels & Deli not for the bagels but their sandwiches. I have tried a different sandwich every time for the last 5 visit I've been there and I like almost all of them so far. I have to say, I made the mistake of not telling them I want bread instead of bagel one time and I didn't like it at all. I feel that the bagels are a bit hard and chewy. All the breakfast and lunch sandwiches can be made either with breads or bagels so it's a plus.

  • Sunshine K.

Tried this place multiple times due to the positive reviews. Honestly, I don't see why people keep coming back. The bagels are by far, the worst I have ever had. For some reason they are sweet & after a while, you can't stand to eat them. Everytime I bring someone from out of town there, they complain.

    (1)
  • Wade L.

I've been in a few times now over the course of a couple of years and it occurs to me i haven't done a review yet. Here's the basic version (for the sake of brevity): give it a miss. The more detailed one is this: All of the various foods are pretty much fine. There's nothing offensive or awful, but the bagels are not--by any stretch--what anyone with a functioning tongue might call "good". If you want to pop in for coffee, fine, i guess i can't much complain. Here's the real pain though: i've never once been able to just pop in and pop out. For some reason, every untoasted bagel or small black coffee (literally the sort of things i order) takes way too much time. I'm pretty patient, too. But something about the employee confusion/carelessness and the setup or the menu or the pace of business just always rubs me wrong. Here's the best way to put it: as pleasant as it is to spend a nice spring morning in Bethlehem sitting outside on the sidewalk on Main street with a coffee, it isn't quite worth the trouble of doing it at Johnny's.

Since I moved out of NYC over 2 years ago I've had the most difficult time finding a good bagel sandwich, let alone a good bagel! Upon moving to downtown Bethlehem I stumbled upon Johnny's one weekday and was blown away by the authentic, delicious bagel sandwiches. Since then I have returned several times tasting bagels & cream cheese, sandwiches, paninis, and french fries and each item has been deliciously fresh. The employees are always very friendly and kind, and prices are affordable with a gyro packed with fresh grilled chicken, vegetables, cheese and sauce costing under $7. I read some other reviews which complained about the timeliness. I can see where they're coming from, but I wouldn't ever have thought it a problem myself. I'm guessing that because this is a local business the employees aren't trained to create every menu item in a specific, uniform manner like one would find at a Starbucks or a Subway. When I visit I expect the employees to take a few minutes to freshly create my meal just for me so I don't mind waiting the five minutes that it took today to get a gyro with grilled chicken, a grilled ham panini, and an order of fries. Overall I think that Johnny's is always delivering delicious food with great service!

The bagels and cream cheeses are amazing! I am a New Yorker, and these are just as good, if not better, than the average New York bagel. Worth a trip to Bethlehem!

Good place to get breakfast or lunch. Its counter service, as expected for a deli or bagel shop. The bagels are good and they have lots of sandwiches (including breakfast sandwiches) to choose from. Great location right on Main Street and there are tables inside or outside.

This place was a lifesaver for cheap breakfast and lunch while visiting town. I found the service to be quick and efficient. The highlight for me was lunch, as I had a great Reubens' sandwhich here. It had just the right amount of meat and cheese. The food was also reasonable priced, which made me a fan.

I would love to give this place 5 stars because I love their food. On the other hand I would love to give this place 1 star because the man that works behind the counter is very RUDE!! The prices aren't bad for the food that u get. Big portions, good flavors and nice location in Bethlehem. If its a nice day u should def sit outside and "people watch" while u eat!! I usually get the chicken and jalapeno sandwich (i forget the exact name, but its listed on the specialty sandwich board) on a bagel and it is absolutely AMAZING!! I love the relish that they put on it. Now for the *** behind the counter..... I was in there with my son and hubby and both of their orders were placed while i'm still trying to figure out what i want. Hubby was kinda rushing me (cause like i said i always end up getting the jalapeno chicken sandwich) saying "You know what your gonna get just order it" when the man behind the counter hears this he goes on saying how "women cant make decisions and that in his country we have no rights and that's how it should be everywhere!" Needless to say i was SPEECHLESS!! I couldn't believe he was actually trying to carry on conversation with my husband (an American man) about how women shouldn't have rights?? Is this guy serious?? I wanted to tell him to go back to where he came from if he agrees so strongly with his Country.. I didn't want spit in my food so i kept my mouth shut. I haven't been back since and i don't know if this "man" still works there. I'm pretty sure he probably does since hes the only person i have ever seen working the counter here in the past.

Affordable and convenient. This place is a staple in my life. Fresh bagels available every morning, as well as packaged bagels to last you through the week. The cream cheese is the best, though, with flavors like strawberry, blueberry, lox, and veggie. My favorite is the honey-walnut cream cheese on a honey wheat bagel. Simply delicious, and the staff is friendly too.

  • Sara S.

Johnny's bagels were delicious and the perfect breakfast while vacationing in Bethlehem. The bagels are really a NY-style and better than anything I can get in Boston. Highly suggest the veggie sandwich. The spinach bagel was perfectly chewy and hearty while the cream cheese was rich and definitely not "low-fat" tasting. Additionally, their iced coffee was some of the best I've had in a long, long time. Props for a huge bagel, cream cheese, sandwich, syrup, and baked goods selection! Takes credit cards, Internet, and outdoor seating. However, slightly pricey.

    (4)
  • Mark N.

Johnny's Bagels is terrible and over-rated. The Main Street store looks hip, but the bagels are chewy and hard. A turkey sandwich on a bagel and a small iced tea cost me $8.12. Is that insane or what, especially in this economic climate? They didn't warm up the bagel, they made my order wrong and the thing was something I could have made at home - basically bland. My favorite part was watching the guy ring up my order $0.50 for lettuce, $0.75 for cheese, $0.25 for a tomato... No real Bethlehem dweller could afford this... only the posh Lehigh student.

Still a Bethlehem palace of breakfast. But now with a bigger selection of baked goods ,coffee, and beverages. The best Bagel shop in Bethlehem just keeps getting better!

  • Jane L.

I come from a place that is NOT known for their bagels, so...having a really good bagel place is a treat for me, and I love Johnny's. The bagels are so fresh and the cream cheese is amazing; I usually shy away from low fat cream cheese because it tastes gross, but the low fat ones here are so, so good. Four stars instead of five because multiple times I've been overcharged for things I didn't buy. This has only happened in the Main Street location and is not a huge deal, I've just been wrongly charged for extra cheese or bacon I didn't eat/order or a medium coffee instead of a small. It's only a few cents difference but still annoying.

Bought some bagels and cream cheese to go and was impressed with how large and delicious they were. Sure the guys are authentic New Yorkers but that added extra ambiance and appeal to their shop. Would I stop in again next time? You betcha!!

I've been a fan of their bagels and sandwiches for a while. I'll often go here just such a sandwich (usually a Ham-I-Am with cheese, on an onion bagel) and an IBC root beer. It is probably the best in the downtown area to find both. That said, it can be a touch on the dirty side, which does gross me out a little at times, I don't mind as much as getting an inconsistent price at the register. I usually pay by card, instead of with cash, and I think they must know this and jack up the price some random amount based purely on a whim. I almost always get the same thing, you'd be hard pressed to find me not, and almost every time I do it's a totally different price. Too be honest though, that's my only major gripe against Johnny's. Beyond that, I really enjoy their bagels, as well as their drink selection.

Went to the Lehigh University location the other day, had a Reuben -- was the smallest sandwich I ever had!! Two pieces of meat, a little sauerkraut and chesse for $6! A TOTAL RIPOFF!, they should be ashamed of themselves selling such a thing!

I have only had the bagels, very fresh very good, simple as that.

Great bagels and nice friendly staff. Don't stray too far from the bagel-oriented menu items though, I've had some bad experiences.
