New favorite local donut joint. Great tasting donuts, excellent customer service, and affordable pricing. You need to go there early to get more donut choices because they go fast.

Clay's is our go-to bakery for birthday cakes. We have never been disappointed with anything we've bought there. And now we have grandchildren who specify a Clay's cake for their celebrations.

We have been getting birthday cakes and celebration cakes from Clay's since I was a kid. Now that I have children, I'm sticking with the tradition. They have phenomenal artistic ability on all their cakes. I am never disappointed with how well they turn my vision into the perfect cake! Even better is that they actually taste amazing!!! I highly recommend their chocolate chip pound cake and chocolate cake. It's pricey but worth EVERY penny!!!

I got my birthday cake here and I loved it! I gave them two day's notice and was worried they wouldn't be able to do it in time, but they probably could have done it with one day's notice! And I gave them specific ideas and they were totally cool with it. I asked for a chocolate inside, white icing background, purple writing and pink cherry blossoms on branches. They did that exactly and it was beautiful!! It looked like it took them a while to do! Soooo beautiful! I'm definitely coming here for every birthday occasion. Seriously, this has become my instant go-to birthday cake place! And FYI, they have birthday cakes already made, so if you realize that you forgot about someone's birthday the day of, they have your back! They have a parking lot right next door so it's easy to get there, but they only do cash or checks, so don't forget!!! I did and it was a pain. If you give them 24 hour's notice, for $19 you can get a cake that serves 6-8 people with the exact specifications that you require for decorations. Like Holly said, clays is great with decorations and creativity, but the taste was kind of so-so... I had a chocolate base and it wasn't dry but it wasn't exactly moist and soft... I feel like they could probably improve the quality of the ingredients. The icing was perfect though. And you can decide how big you want the cake and the exact colors, like a blue background versus white, the color of writing and the decorations. And you can pick different cake flavors... I chose chocolate, but next time, I might try something else like carrot. And I think their large flower decorations are gorgeous! The writing was also a bit tight, maybe if they expanded the width of the letters a bit, that would be nicer. Anyway, aside from the cash/ checks only and the mediocre cake taste, it really was awesome! I'm coming here for all my cakes. The decorations were so beautiful, I couldn't stop staring at it. No more last minute stress to find a good birthday cake. PROS: gorgeous designs (very creative), inexpensive birthday cake, open 6 days/ wk CONS: ingredients seem cheap so its not as tasty, CASH ONLY!, closed Mondays

Obviously everyone has different tastes. But it's also obvious that if people like this place, they have very poor taste and like to pay a lot for it. I've been trying a lot of bakeries lately searching for multiple things. The latest is a good danish. So far, Orlandos is the best and Clays is the worst. $1.95 for a hard disk they call a danish. The Elagance French bakery in Paoli is better but is $2.75. Orlando's is incredibly good for only $1.25. Everything at Clays is expensive but if that's what you like you will like this place.

Clay's is a fabulous business - friendly, accommodating, and reasonably priced - and their fancy cake skillz are killer. I work for a tv network, the star of which is a chicken puppet. (Yes, you read that correctly. Chicken. Puppet.) For a special off-site meeting of 30 people, we wanted to surprise our employees with a cake that looked like the puppet - so, a chicken-puppet-shaped cake. And the cake-chicken needed to be sitting in a cake-nest. The amazing people at Clay's didn't bat an eye. We sent some photos for inspiration, and it turns out Clay's had done chicken-puppet-cakes before - what luck! They knew exactly what we wanted, and they executed it flawlessly. I was shocked at how spot-on it was when I picked it up. We got to choose three different flavors for the cake layers, and they were all so delicious - plus we had a ton of cake leftover. We paid $295 - a comparative STEAL, I learned, after calling around to some bakeries in or closer to Philly, some of which wanted twice that price. Sure, I had to go out to Berwyn to pick it up (they don't deliver, at least not to Philly) but it was totally worth it. Our whole group was thrilled with our Clay's cake.

This is our favorite bakery. It's at least 20 minutes away from my home, but it's worth the drive. The birthday cakes are delicious, and beautifully decorated. Everything is good there......cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, cupcakes, breakfast pastries, etc. Their holiday specials are amazing.

Clay's Bakery is one of my family's favorites in the area to order cakes for any occasion! The employees are very friendly and willing to work with whatever you request in a timely, reasonably priced fashion. I have had vanilla, chocolate, and chocolate chip pound cakes and hands down their best flavor is the chocolate chip pound, it's why we go Clay's for our cakes. The cake decorator does a phenomenal job and creating whatever you ask for and more! Just after a short phone conversation throwing out some ideas, Clay's is able to produce a beautiful cake. Highly recommend!!

We love Clay's Bakery... hard to pic a favorite but if you are lucky enough to see a cheese danish in the case, get it b/c it won't last as it's delicious! We've gotten every special occassion cake at Clays and most recently, they created an INCREDIBLE Teen Beach Movie cake for our daughter. It was just wonderful, they added so many special loving touches and the only thing better than it's appearance was it's taste! It was a choc chip pound cake and so moist for a pound cake! Besides the yummies they craft, the staff are all kind, helpful and just as sweet as their creative creations!!! Wanted to add that I see a couple folks had a bad experience w. Clays. It would be helpful to them as a small, family owned/operated business to talk to them about your experience, as they will most definitely make it right, than to try to tear down a small business. People should be supportive of our small "mom & pop" shops & corner bakeries rather than blast them on yelp...

They were great! Went here for a tasting for a wedding cake I had my favourites of course. The place was packed and they do not have a lot of space. I was impressed with their icing it was incredible and melted in my mouth. I also did get a chance to try their red velvet and cream-cheese frosting which tops my list of cake tasting experience. We ended up walking out of there happy that we found ourselves a cake. This is a place my fiancee really liked growing up and she wanted a cake from here and I would have to agree it was pretty damn good.

I went here for a wedding cake tasting and the place was packed. I mistakenly thought that was a good sign...boy was I wrong. It was the DRIEST cake I've ever eaten. The presentation was bad and everything looked like it belonged at a child's birthday party. It was the first (and hopefully the last) time I will ever eat a crunchy cinnamon roll. The locals are crazy...this place is terrible stay away. They quoted us $350 for a wedding cake...no wonder $350 and you can have your very own butter cream covered brick.

I work close to Clay's and a lot of people in the office get their family party cakes here and bring the leftovers into work. I have to say they are somewhere on the scale of "ok " to "very good" taste-wise. It's weird some cakes from there I have eaten seem like a box cake mix and others are a higher quality. Where they really excel is their decorating!! They certainly live up to their "creative" name as far as the imagination goes. We wanted a cake for two people having a birthday at once - one loved superheroes, one loved cats - so we asked for a superhero cat cake and they drew one on a cake that turned out well. Just walking into the bakery my jaw hit they floor, they have lots and lots of beautifully decorated cakes in all kinds of styles and colors, and they are ready to buy. The style sort of looks like how they decorate fondant cakes but its butter cream icing. They also have all kinds of cupcakes, cookies and donuts that looked good. So while their cake tastes fine, it's really their beautiful decorations that would inspire me to purchase a cake here.

I love this place and the people at Clay's. With that said, here is my disclaimer, I grew up with these wonderful people. With that said, this is still an awesome bakery with some amazing desserts. Every year, my birthday cake comes from Clay's and I am quite pleased. My brother's wedding cake came from here. When people are celebrating my death, I'm sure a cake will come from Clay's. I can remember once getting an entire cup of their frosting and attempting to eat it straight up. I was bouncing off the walls for hours.

I purchased two cakes from Clay's (one for my fiancée's birthday and the other for my mom's birthday)and they both were not what I ordered. I have been ordering cakes from this bakery for over 15 years and this was the first time I ever had an issue. I contacted the Manager and she was very defensive, rude and did not listen to anything I had to say. (Very Poor Customer Service) She then insulted me by telling me that I was lying and assumed that Rebecca (who took the order) knew what I was talking about. One was a Boston Red Sox Cake that did not have anything pertaining to the Red Sox on it (they just threw baseball gloves and gloves all over it with Red Stitching (no wording or Boston Red Sox Logo on the cake anywhere which is what I asked for). Second I asked for a Cake for my mom with Bright Flowers (Pink, Orange and Yellow) and they put Pastel colors on the cake. After getting completely irritated and listening to this Manager who doesn't have a clue what customer service is stating "You can bring the cake back and I will add the things that you want but I am going to charge you an additional price to do so". (Seriously...When you didn't do what I requested the first time and now you want to charge me!!!) Needless to say that after all these years I have decided that after being called a liar and being told that Rebecca is "Perfect" and doesn't make mistakes, I will never go back to Clay's Creative (Not so Creative when you can't deliver what the client requests and then you want to charge them for your mistakes) Corner Bakery. I work at a VERY LARGE Fortune 500 company and can't wait to share this story with my clients and co-workers to ensure that they do not spend one dime in this poor customer service and managed Bakery!!!

Best buttercream frosting ever!!!! I will say that I'm a huge fan of Clay's and every year I get my birthday cake them. The reason for 4 out of 5 stars is because I do agree with the people that have ordered the pound cake and found it dry. Over the years 4 out of the 5 pound cakes were super dry, the chocolate chip was burnt. We told the owner and she said that pound cakes are not as moist as the layer cakes HOWEVER pound cake is supposed to have a little moisture, you should be able to take bite sized piece and press a fork on top of it and it should flatten out but stick to your fork. The pound cakes that we have gotten crumble into a dry mess. Therefore my answer is quite simple,I stick with the chocolate/vanilla layer cakes and they are fabulous every time!!! The best ever hands down!!! I get excited about my birthday because I know I'm getting my Clay's cake:) I'll be expecting my yearly dose of Clay's buttery fabulousness this Friday, can't wait (only downside is I have to work out extra hard this week to offset my cake binge). WORTH IT!!!!

OMG. I recently turned a year older (bummer) and was surprised with a birthday cake from Clay's. The decoration was a bit too much-but maybe that was what was requested. However the cake itself was about the driest I'd ever had. I mean downright dusty. The butter creme icing was pretty poor too.I felt so bad for the person who'd ordered it. Everyone who tired it had a hard time getting any of it down. Wow! It was really bad cake! I felt really horrible when I found out they were charged $50 for an average sized birthday cake that was almost inedible! I just read Lori P.'s recent review and could not agree more. I got a couple of birthday cakes earlier this year from Aux Petits Delices and they were great! While they tend to do less custom decoration, their decorations are generally more tasteful and the cakes were delicious. And at $35 each, a bargain compared to Clay's! I was surprised that Clay's delivered such a bad cake to be honest. I hope they figure out what is going wrong and make improvements-this bakery has a long-standing reputation in this area. I hate to see things there going downhill. Stay tuned?

Sorry to see some Yelpers had a bad experience with Clay's, but fortunately I have yet to have a bad cake. I agree, the decorating is certainly one aspect of Clay's that makes them unique over getting a cake from another bakery. I've ordered cakes large and small from clays as well as specialty cupcakes for special occasions and it's become a family tradition to expect a clay's cake for an event. The customer service is also A+. If you have any disappointment with your product they are always willing to make up for it as they hate to upset a customer. I only give them 4 starts instead of 5 because they only accept cash. I am absolutely the worst at keeping cash on me and have my debit card attached at my hip, so I have to always make sure I have cash for my purchase. Altogether I highly recommend the carrot cake, the choc chip pound cake and the cupcakes.

YUMMIE ! Best icing ever - pull up a spoon & dig in. The carrot cake is the best. The staff is super cool.

Clay's is an institution. No matter where in this area I end up living, I know I will always make the drive to Clay's. Their icing is addictive, their cakes delectable and their decorations darling. They can do anything you ask for and well! I highly recommend. And the best part: you can get the best donuts anywhere while you're waiting for your cake!

I have never had a bad experience with Clay's, but I have never actually ordered a cake. I LOVE the cream cheese icing they put on their brownies though! They used to make brownies with peanut butter icing... yum! The donuts are pretty good too, but my favorite item is the huge cinnamon rolls. I had a friend who worked there who brought home 3 cakes they were going to throw out, and I remember those being delicious... but maybe I was in a foodcoma from all the sugar...

My fiancé and I had our wedding cake tasting here and they did a nice job. They allowed us to schedule it very last-minute, which we appreciated because we live out of state. They brought over a plate with 12 cake samples on it- I can remember amaretto, butter poundcake (our favorite), chocolate chip poundcake, mocha, lemon poppy, spice, orange, and raspberry poundcake. We also wanted to try some flavors that they didn't have on the plate, so they gave us cupcakes to try. We were actually a little disappointed in a few of the flavors that we had expected to be phenomenal based on past experiences with their cakes- maybe they were sitting out for awhile before we tried them. However, we were happy with what we ended up choosing. I had been raving about this bakery for years because I grew up with these cakes, and I was excited to see that my fiancé was totally impressed with what he tried and the cakes that he saw being decorated while we were there. They definitely know what they're doing- they were able to advise us regarding the icings that we should choose, what flavors for which tiers, what size to get depending on our guest count, etc. The only downside is that they don't deliver unless you're very close by- they said that they make 4-5 wedding cakes a day during peak season and just weren't able to give up the employees to drive cakes all over because they're a small store. However, the woman that we talked to was reassuring as far as the safety and logistics of transporting a cake, so we felt okay enough to proceed. They were great about giving us our space to try the different flavors and discuss them and look through their cake books. The woman then sat down with us to nail down the details of our cake, which she made very easy. It seems to make the process easier if you bring pictures with you of what you want- they are very willing to work with that, and it probably even makes their job easier. They made up a description of what we wanted, told us the exact pricing (which was much cheaper than what we were expecting!!), and told us when we would need to pay by if we wanted to proceed with the cake for our wedding, but didn't pressure us at all to commit or pay right away Additionally, be advised that they don't take credit cards- just cash or check.
