Great place to grab a quick lunch or a delicious breakfast. The Harvest has a great setup and really good food. You can tell that all the ingredients are fresh here and they do a really good job creating a unique yet appetizing menu. The Harvest supports local farmers as well as eating healthy and at the same time make really great tasting foods. The only thing that kept them from 5 stars is the Green Mountain Coffee.... sometimes the coffee in a cafe can make it that much better. Sadly Green Mountain just isn't that good. This would be my choice for a great meal while in downtown Bedford!

We and every other table this morning waited over an hour for our food (two orders of pancakes). When they finally came out, they were awful. When another table told the server they couldn't wait any longer, she was extremely rude to them. What a disappointing way to start the morning.

I was a little apprehensive going in because reviews on Yelp were quite mixed. However, I can say confidently that my husband and I had a good experience here. They had a nice menu selection, more conventional (Quesadillas, Ham & Cheese, etc) and some more modern choices (Roast beef Sandwich with Blackberry Jam and Feta) Two different people in town recommended the fiery Turkey Cibatta griller, so I gave that a try. Yummmm! The service was very friendly. The food came out quickly and was delicious. What more can you ask for when its 1 PM and you are hungry for lunch?

The food is pretty good.. However do not go if you are in any sort of a hurry. The young girls working have not been trained and apparently don't eat out because they don't know what to expect in a restaurant.. If you need anything you have to go interrupt their cell phone conversations for service.. This is unfortunate because the meal was good.

We stopped in here while looking for a healthy but cost-effective lunch during an otherwise expensive cheeseburger-and-beer filled weekend. We got exactly what we were looking for. I had the turkey pesto panini on multigrain (!) bread with a side of sunchips, and my boyfriend had the black bean burger with a ginger couscous salad. While I enjoyed every bite of my tasty sandwich, his meal was truly something else. We both agreed that it was the best bean burger either of us had ever had, and the ginger couscous salad was something I hope to duplicate in my own kitchen for years to come. Totally delicious, wholesome, healthy meal for about $15 for both of us. If only we lived a bit closer, I would definitely be a frequent customer.

Hummus isn't good at all. Kids peanut butter and jelly had jelly dripping out of it before even picking it up. Water and tea glasses went empty and no one refilled them. The blonde server was pretty awesome though, she needs a better support staff to be more successful and less frustrated.

On a day we were exploring the area with our daughter-in-law, we decided to stop for lunch. A month has passed but I can still remember how wonderful the whole staff was. We had a couple of fantastic vegan soups, a reuben, salad and wrap-turned-into-bowl between the 3 of us. All of the food was fresh and tasty. Upon hearing that 2 of us were vegan, the waitress set out to find vegan desserts for us. The chef came out and said that there were some in the freezer because she had made too many for a function the weekend before. We got 3 huge vegan cookies to go and munched them on the trail later in the day.

Very slow and overpriced. My Mediterranean griller was missing the chicken and was overdone. No free refills on the lemonade.

Pretty darn excellent. Tasty teas, rockin wraps and a hummus/veg platter that would make a cabbage patch blush. One of those places where you just can't pick just one thing from the menu.

Really great sandwiches. Completely vegan options and vegetarian options, along with MEAT - if that's what you're there for. Soups are usually vegan. Friendly service, food didn't take long to arrive after ordering, coffee was REALLY good, and honestly the menu had a lot of different food options for all the picky eaters out there without being overwhelming. Plenty of seating. it's a "seat yourself" style - there weren't any signs, but another customer let us in on the secret shortly after noticing us awkwardly standing near the door. take out is also available, and the price was VERY reasonable; i'd definitely go back again.... that is, if I'm ever in/around Pittsburgh again.

Absolutely terrible food and very poor management. Homemade hummus was sour and watery/grainy at the same time. Soup tasted like it was water and a can of beans microwaved. Greek wrap was overpriced for the oily mess it tasted like. Do not waste your time (over 1 hour) or money for this food.

Green Harvest is a lovely little stop full of yummy, healthy food and lots of coffee. How could I not love it? I've been here a total of five times. The first two were with my boss, who doesn't even drink coffee, but has a bad addiction to chai tea. The third was to buy a gift card for boss's day so my boss could have more chai tea. The fourth was to bring my sister, whose first trip to the great northeast involved flying across the country into Pittsburgh and riding in my car for two hours to the middle of central PA. We visited for lunch, first enjoying lentil soup and then flatbread pizzas. The service was a little slow, but we amused ourselves with FourSquare and checking out the art on the walls (she is an art major, so any art or architecture is greatly scrutinized and thus, appreciated.) The food was great and absolutely hit the spot. My health-conscious sister is a picky eater (although she did manage to eat an entire Primanti's sandwich over two meals) but was able to find a pizza she really enjoyed. The fifth was with my mom, whose second visit to Bedford HAD to involve one of my favorite restaurants, the Green Harvest.. After multiple friends commented that they had great breakfast, I insisted we try it. We were the only two people in the restaurant and service was VERY slow. I understand that food is cooked to order, which is great, but I felt that it was just a little too casual. The server walked around on a cell phone placing purchasing orders while we waited for our food to arrive, then disappeared for a while once we had finished eating. I noted that my side dish was wrong--quinoa had been served instead of polenta. The server said that the cook was new and that's why it was wrong. I wasn't looking for an excuse and would have preferred that she just acknowledge the mistake. She did offer a dish of polenta to go, which I appreciated (although it was absolutely terrible--she wasn't kidding when she said it was just grits--bleh! That's not polenta!) Mom lamented that the breakfast was not very filling despite ordering an extra side, and I had to agree. I absolutely appreciate the vegetarian and vegan options, so I'll probably come back, but not as often as I'd like.

We were on our way to Cleveland and decided to stop by here for breakfast. Place looks pretty cute. Daughter ordered scrambled eggs on top of a biscuit. Her eggs was good but the biscuit was dry. Hubs ordered the Asparagus Melt Special. He thought the omelette was well done but the asparagus were fresh. I ordered the garden vegetables with eggs. It was pretty good. Waitress was friendly but a little weird. She asked us if we wanted any condiments like ketchup, salt, soy sauce. ????. Kind of weird. Was it because we were Asian and that's why she threw that in? Kind of unnecessary and weird....

What a nice surprise to find a place like this along the turnpike. Way better than the chain fast food joints near the exit. I had the black bean burger (best one I've ever had) and my Mom got a chicken ginger sesame wrap. Both were delicious. I like the fact we could get couscous as a side instead of greasy fries. Nice atmosphere. I highly recommend this place!

What a wonderful little place- a real gem. Really friendly and knowledgeable staff who take the time to explain the many interesting menu options. My husband and I both got fruit smoothies and they were tasty and not too sweet. The house made hummus was lovely and the pineapple onion dip is seriously addicting. Thankfully you can buy a mix to make it at home so...crisis averted. Several nice vegetarian options on the menu but be warned- both the vegetarian black bean "burger" and veggie "burgers", though tasty and house made, are more like soft pucks of refritos than burgers. Texturally, and mechanically, hard to eat as a sandwich. Overall, a lovely experience. I will be back. Next time- breakfast!

Arrived and waited 15 minutes to speak with waitress. Menu has both brwakfast and lunch, but mentions NOWHERE that breakfast ends 11am. Needed eggs for diet restriction, but. ... SOL. Btw, we ended up at local Denny's. Would you want to eat here?

On a trip out to western PA, some friends and i stopped at this place for lunch. It's a fun, small, quaint, charming little cafe in a nice historic downtown area. We all loved it. The food was fresh and creative. Great vegetarian options. Definitely my favorite kind of lunch spot. the kind of quality independent cafe that every town should have.

Green Harvest is another little gem in the downtown Bedford area on Pitt street in the block between Juliana and Richard. The walls are adorned with local artwork, and there's a little corner toward the back of the restaurant with other local offerings. Breakfast at this place is excellent--and filling. One morning I ordered the granola bowl, and it arrived looking more like a granola tub! It was delicious, and I was not looking for lunch for quite a while. Speaking of lunch, they have great sandwiches, paninis, wraps and salads. There are numerous pre-set items on the menu, as well as options to make your own sandwich/panini/wrap from a list of ingredients, sort of like making your own pizza. Coffees and teas are also available, and they make some good hot chocolate, mochas, cappuchinos, etc., although I prefer to walk down the block to Hebrews to get my brew to sip on. The ambience is quaint and comfortable--several four-person and a couple two-person tables fill the little front room of the restaurant. It's perfect for a leisurely breakfast or a chat over lunch. The service is generally amiable and helpful.

We discovered this little gem of a cafe during a family weekend in Bedford. The service was good and I have to say that I had the best grilled cheese sandwich I have ever had - so much so that I have tried to replicate it at home. So if you are on the PA turnpike and need a break - try stopping in Bedford. It is well worth the effort and time.

This place really excited me, I am not into health food like some folks are, but if I could dine here daily I would be quite pleased. Located in the middle of downtown historic Bedford, The Green Harvest Co. is a cafe offering a full coffee and tea bar and fruit smoothies. They have a huge variety of iced or hot coffees and chai teas, espresso, lattes, cappuccinos, hot chocolates and more flavors of smoothies than I have ever seen. They have soy milk, raw sugar and honey for the very serious health fanatics. An in house bakery where they make scones, cookies, biscottis and other snacks and an area which sells their own jarred salsas, spreads, mustard's and spices. They have a variety of their own prepackaged dips and spread mixes to finish off at home. Can you hear my excitement! The walls are adorned with beautiful paintings and works of art from local artists which are for sale and have no price tag on them. I did fall in love with one and my daughter agreed it was her favorite as well, but I was afraid to ask the price and I was there to have breakfast. Homemade granola's, yogurts with fresh fruit, the multi grain toast, oat and organic grain pancakes and a warm grain bowl of organic wheat, oats, barley, soybeans, buckwheat, corn and millet to warm your belly and stick to your ribs. They have fruit fillers for the pancakes and cream cheese fluff for the tops. Vegans and vegetarians would have a field day in this place. Did I stick with the healthy theme? Hellz no, I had myself a southwest burrito, a flour tortilla stuffed with scrambled eggs, sausage ( you can choose between bacon, sausage or ham or go meatless) cheddar cheese, onions, jalapeno peppers galore, tomatoes and spices, served with a side of their beyond awesome hot salsa and sour cream. With this came a side of their harvest potatoes which were good but could have used some onions, peppers and grease. I could have had fresh fruit instead but come on, I did wash it all down with a pineapple and coconut smoothie. We shared a breakfast appetizer of breakfast nachos, corn chips, scrambled eggs, melted cheddar cheese, crisp bacon, chopped tomatoes, peppers, sliced black olives and red onion with a side of salsa and sour cream. My daughter had a mocha latte in the largest bowl of a coffee cup I have ever seen and the Taste of Greece, half the plate was filled with fresh baby spinach and the other half was filled with a nice variety of fresh fruit. On top of the spinach laid fluffy scrambled eggs topped with sliced black olives, feta cheese, fresh tomatoes and herbs. It was a beautiful plate and I am glad she is staying healthy. Speaking of plates, they are vibrant colors of the rainbow and made of stoneware, very cheery. Before I left I stocked up on some spices and spread and dip mixes and I had to buy their salsa. Oh and they make and sell Bedford caviar which is a kicked up black bean salsa. I bought four scones, some macaroons and cookies to bring home for good luck. Any one of us can order their products on line, but I am next anxious to try their lunch and homemade soups, so I know I will be back. My only downside to this cafe was my daughter took what we could not eat into work with her to have for lunch and being so health and environmentally conscious I was amazed when we were handed a Styrofoam container. I have since heard from the owner and the container is biodegradable material #6. The food, the atmosphere, the decor and the whole concept and variety is grand. I loved it and I can not wait to try the Bedford caviar and the jalapeno mustard.

While the ambiance is nice, successful execution is lacking. My husband and I stopped in for breakfast, which turned out to be a mistake. My Sicilian Start turned out to be a disappointment, when they replaced polenta with grits (did they think I wouldn't notice?) without even the courtesy to drain them, which led to soggy toast. Ick. My husband's biscuit breakfast was covered with "egg-inappropriate spices", and while the natural peanut butter is exactly as advertised, the side of toast is dry and needed honey, which was available but the dispenser was filthy. The owner approached us, and without even asking if we had a problem, presented a wikipedia page explaining that grits and polenta were the same thing. When I explained to her that the difference is in preparation, and that I lived in Italy and ate polenta every day, she became very belligerent and said that she had gotten information from an Italian guy, and even though she had had to explain her menu to multiple customers who had complained, she was right! (NB: If multiple people are expecting something that they are not getting, it is good business practice to adjust your menu to their expectation - less complaints, more happy customers. IMHO). When I stated that I was not interested in arguing with her, and that I would simply like my check so that I could leave, she became very angry and somewhat offensive, before stomping off in a huff. (Bonus is that we could hear her go in the back and start screaming at the cook about the dry toast. I feel bad for that guy!) The waitress, who was very decent, ended up apologizing and very sincerely telling us that she hoped our day improved. All in all, NOT an experience that I would recommend. The food is mediocre, the cost is average, and the owner is obnoxious. I would recommend the bread company across the street if you get hungry in the area or the coffee shop, HeBrew, right up the street. If you're there on a weekend, every Saturday night the Italian import store a few doors down holds an amazing trattoria style dinner.

Food was decent, but service was sorely lacking. My wife and I went there at 3pm on Saturday, 2/22 to grab a late lunch. Place was not very busy, but it took quite awhile to our peanut butter paninis. Our table did not have any silverware on it, nor did our server take the initiative to provide it or offer us some. She also did not offer my wife a refill of water. Finally, I had to go up and get my bill instead of it being given to us. Not a great experience at all.

The only reason they managed three stars was for the cappuccinos. In fact they were so good, we were there almost every day during our stay in Bedford. If it weren't for that, I probably wouldn't have given them much business. The food was okay but nothing to write home about and I hate to say this but waitresses/servers in NY are ten times more friendly than here. I understand they're limited on workers and were crowded the couple of times we were here but that doesn't mean you can't crack a smile or something to show you don't hate your job. And it's not just here but almost any place we seemed to go, people were just half dead.

This place is great! I could eat here every day. I'll certainly stop by on my way east or west. This is a good stopping place in central PA with easy on/off the turnpike. We've visited 3 times. Parking can usually be found on the street or down by the river (around the corner) by the museum. There is a nice little trail along the river. There are also several little stores nearby including a chocolate shop. Smoothies - simple, pick your fruit plus ice and yogurt. Kids - there are several typical options including a 1/2 deli sandwich - pick your fillings and bread served with sunchips and a juice for under $4. Food - While I chose vegetarian options there are meats and more mainstream items on the menu. I've twice had the delicious "reuben" with hummus and sauerkraut grilled on a pita with swiss cheese. So delicious. Another day I tried the Spring quesadilla with pear, broccoli, two kinds of cheese. $6.50-7 So healthy and delicious. The soups look good - often a healthy chunky soup like beet and potato. The atmosphere is coffee shop and indeed there are several delicious looking tea and coffee items. Service is friendly and helpful though the foods are made from scratch and may take a little longer than you expect. Verdict - you'll feel a lot better than if you go through a drive-through.

Great food, nice alternative to the places at the Bedford Springs Resort.

This place is so quaint and adorable, with a healthy, vegetarian and vegan menu. Great parking, general location and a huge menu. I personally love local food and will pick local options over corporate any day. Had the gingerbread cappuccino: amazing! Harvest Tea: delightful and refreshing. Had the 'spinach & white bean soup,' a bit bland but vegan and really tasty with added salt. Humus plate: delicious (make sure you like olives). I had the Blackberry Ciabatta (Roast Beef, Provolone, Blackberry Preserves, Feta, Caramelized Onions) with was simply out of this world. Why only 4 stars: The service. We were the only table in the whole place and she was very slow, which I really didn't mind. However, she was also very stand-offish bordering on rude and acted like it was a chore to answer any questions about ingredients or the restaurants founding.
