Dinner at The Bedford Tavern last evening -- Seafood Salad. Delicious!!!! Would highly recommend. I'm allergic to shrimp and asked to have only the crab meat and scallops. No problem with the special request The scallops were excellent and the House Dressing was just right. Owner and staff are friendly. Food was delivered in a timely manner. Larger portion than I am accustomed to receiving. Nice, local establishment.

Fair, crab cakes were over cooked and fried.fries were cold, crab soup came out last. Wait staff inexperienced. Several dishes over priced. Not what we had hoped for.

Showed up with reservations at 7, arrived 7:05. Told we were "late". It has been 100 minutes we've waited and counting. Waitresses are nice enough however they offer up excuses for the tardiness of the food, rather than solutions. They're willing to comp the dessert. Probably going to leave soon...

Stopped in for lunch on way through Bedford, like to try local establishments. Clean and reasonable prices. We had a gyro and a chicken salad sandwich. Waitress had no idea what beers they had, but got me a beer menu. We were the only ones in the front room, which seemed odd because its where you enter, is clean, had windows, and appears to be where you should sit. Seems the locals prefer the back dining room, which is booths and has a "restaurant look." Place has potential, but apparently not with the current owners.

Went on our wedding anniversary because it was recommended. Don't know what went wrong, but the entire evening was a disaster. My husband ordered the all you can eat seafood. He only received two items and after ordering more seafood several times and never receiving them, we left after 2 1/ hours of waiting. I asked for a roll or bread to go with my soup and meal and was told that the kitchen was really backed up and the waitress wasn't sure when I would receive them. Several other tables left because after waiting for an hour they never saw any food. Don't know if there wasn't enough help or cooks in the kitchen that evening, but don't intend to return to this establishment.

Since joining yelp, I almost feel as if I am interviewing the server, to gather as much information as I can. I pretty much failed in asking some important questions, like is this building, which is hundreds of years old still functioning as a hotel. The front entrance does have a "hotel" entrance door as well as a door to the tavern. After watching some individuals going in through the "hotel" entrance and peering in through the hallway of doors, I am assuming it still has rooms that pretty much serve long term tenants. The Bedford Tavern has two choices for dining, the Tavern which is down a flight of stairs from the parking lot entrance has a good sized bar, electronic games and a pool table, it also has a side and rear dining area with built in wall fish tanks. Even though it is nothing like Cheer's in Boston, I kept being reminded of the sitcom after descending the stairs and watching the locals walk in, being greeted by name and the bartender knowing exactly what to pour. The Tavern and the new upstairs "finer" dining restaurant, which has no name, share the same menu, which is a lot of finger foods for appetizers, sandwiches and more seafood than you can imagine grilling or frying. There are a lot of creeks in Bedford and not sure where they get their frog legs, but they do hand bread them as well as the oysters. After checking out the new and well lit dining room the six of us opted to relax in the tavern. We had two benches pushed together ( which looked like old pews from a church ) along with the heavy wooden table. Bedford county is rich with wineries and the Tavern sells a nice selection of their award winning wines, but by the bottle only. When I inquired what they had by the glass they did not even flinch when they said Franzia. I said that is a box wine and our server said, we have a nicer one upstairs if you would like to try it, I could not believe my ears when she announced it was Black Box. I decided to have what would be, the worst margarita I have ever had, which was 99% bottled sour mix, oh Miss, I will have a glass of the Black Box(ed) wine after all... Next time and there will be a next time, I will just order a bottle. This may be a good time to mention the restrooms are upstairs. My daughter had a trio of wings, barbecued, southwestern and garlic and loved them, my granddaughter had a trio of boneless wings and she was thrilled, my grandson and I had outstanding burgers, his was a bacon cheeseburger and mine was a fresh sauteed mushroom and Swiss burger, so thick and juicy, hand formed and Bedford has quite a few Black Angus farms and some of the best beef you can find on the East coast, seriously. Hubby had the fried clams and was not thrilled, they were definitely frozen and pre-breaded and tiny pieces which was mostly breading. My son in law had the all you can eat trio of your choice of seafood, which can go as high as $33.95 if your choices include frog legs, scallops, crab legs, oysters, crab cakes, soft shell crab or steamed shrimp. He chose the trio of fried shrimp ( which were pre-breaded and frozen ), wings and fried clams, this comes with a baked potato and a salad for $15.95. Pennsylvania is the mushroom capital and I love them, so when we preordered appetizers for the table I had asked if they were fresh and hearing a yes, I ordered these and they were outstanding, so very lightly breaded you could see the entire mushroom, quartered and deep fried and the server was kind enough to make my special dipping sauce of sour cream, horseradish and mayonnaise. I also chose the fresh cut fries to go with my burger and they were huge steak fries, skin on and the entire table scarfed them up faster than I could say Hey! I wished that I had been hungry enough to try the cream of crab soup, which is a house specialty and one of the all you can eat seafood dinners, however not having the burger will be difficult and I know that I will have to have the hand cut fries, mushrooms and try the cream of crab soup. The menu also offered Tavern mushroom soup, cream of broccoli and clam chowder. The biggest downside to me was smelling fish when you entered the downstairs tavern and it was not from all the seafood, it was from the tanks. Not wheelchair friendly. Closed Mondays and the tavern stays open late Tuesday through Saturday. I rate the burger and the fries a solid five stars, I need to return to try a few more items that intiriqued me.

When I asked at the hotel front desk about this place, I was told not to go and that it was a sports bar in a basement. I mentioned that the pictures didn't look that way and the was told it had been several years since the person had eaten there. We decided to go because the website looked good. When we walked in, there was no one in the first room you walk into and as we sat we saw one table in another room. What you don't realize is that the majority of people are in the other two rooms and you will be forgotten in this front room. Room was very cold (they turned up the heat so no problem) and service very slow. I believe the waitress was given too many tables so we were the forgotten ones. It was 45 minutes until we got the dinner salad. Lots of fried food so if you love that and all you can eat, then you will like it here. The prices were very reasonable and once I complained about the service it got better, but its not for me. Too bright, too sterile for a "tavern feel". Lower the lights, use the front room because that's what people walk into --liven up the place . Wings were good and if you love frog legs, order them here-- they were excellent

We stopped here on our way through to Delaware, we intentionally 'target' non franchised establishements in an effort to get to know Americas people and locals. We found this little establishment to be quite charming. Stopped late in evening, about 7pm. Walked in the door and not a soul in sight. After bellowing out the obligitory HELLO, a nice young gall greeted us. Asking about the basement we were escorted downstairs, where also we were the sole customers. The Bartender, Barb was very friendly and greeted us as though we were long lost friends. She helped us make choices off the menu. Yes, the crab soup is that good, and is tops on my list. My wife had the clam chowder and that too was excellent. Wife and I shared a large philly style steak sandwich and breaded mushrooms. Could not have made better choices. Daughter had the pasta special and that too was excellent. Not long after we arrived a 'local' walked in and he was greeted with his usual drink(per Barb) without asking. He left to 'tend the laundry' and 2 more locals walked in and Barb had thier ususal pitcher of beer ready for them. If I lived here this would be a definite weekly/nightly stop. Not fancy but good local company and eager to please.
