I am writing this review strictly for Josh, our amazing waiter. We came in for an early dinner tonight, and we have some picky eaters in our group. We are as kind as can be, but most waiters get annoyed and "cop an attitude" very quickly. Josh was so helpful and patient. If we were in town for longer than two days, we would return. If you do, ask for Josh.

This place is just like any other olive garden. Great food, great atmosphere, great service, and decent prices.

I'm only reviewing this Olive Garden for the reason Valerie P. stated- the breadsticks are incredible at this chain and surprisingly this chain only! I have only been to a few others in Boston and in New York, and for some reason they suck! I don't know if it's the air in Altoona or what- but something about this Olive Garden makes it better than the rest. Especially since the #1 reason I ever go to an Olive Garden is for the all you can eat soup, salad AND BREADSTICKS for next to nothing.. it's always a plus when the breadsticks actually are good.

Sooo here's my honest to goodness review! First of all, it's a beautiful place. Very relaxing and comfortable. The bathroom is always very clean which is a huge positive. Second, upon first review of the menu, you're left wondering when their prices went up. Or at least I was, especially when reviewing the appetizers. The salad is always delicious and I love the fact that they will bring your more when you're done. The bread sticks are nothing special, in fact, I would trade them all for an extra mint at the end of the meal. The entree itself was pretty good and if I hadn't filled up on so much salad I would say that the size was mediocre. But again, after eating so much salad I did have enough to take home. Now, typically, I don't order dessert. I didn't in this instance either BUT since our service was so awful, we got dessert for free. The little shot glasses of different desserts were wonderful. I LOVED the lemon one. They were just enough to satisfy my sweet tooth and didn't leave me feeling crazy full. Plus, they're super cute! Now, back to the service. I wouldn't say our waiter was terrible but it took a very long time to get our food, in fact, we were told that our order got lost. Our waiter should have been on that long before we had to say something. Our total time spent dining at Olive Garden was more than 2 and 1/2 hours, NOT including a 35 minute wait. All in all, I'll go back because I really feel like this was one of those times that their screw up was just an oops and they did admit their mistake and try to make up for it! :)

I am about to write a very favorable review of an Olive Garden, and I still can't believe it. To say I am not a fan of the chain would be an understatement. However, for a number of very valid reasons I found myself having a family dinner at the Altoona, PA Olive Garden. And it was great. We were seated promptly and greeted by pur very enthusIastic waiter who really knew how to handle a table with kids. The manager appeared shortly after we were seated to greet us and offer complimentary wine for the adults. She came back two more times to check on us. Great service. The food was much better than expected. So much so that we visited an OG near home in NJ the next week... and it was awful. This tells me the Altoona OG is doing something different in the kitchen. Whatever it is, OG corporate should get their tails to Altoona and figure out how to make the rest of the chain this good. Our only complaint was that the kitchen was very slow, but the manager adjusted our bill and the quality of the food itself more than made up for it. Olive Garden executives, find out what Altoona is doing and make it your standard!

We love the "OG". Service is always top notch and the food is very tasty. They are very accommodating if we want certain items a little different than they would normally be served. One small complaint, the waiting area. They are usually very busy, especially on weekends. They have very limited seating for how busy they get. On the left side of the waiting area, there is a table where more seating could be for elderly patrons or those waiting a long time. There should be wrap around seating all along the outside of the waiting area. Brent, the manager, is awesome. Always makes sure your meal is perfect. We never hesitate to go to OG!

I don't really know what more to say about an Olive Garden. It's right on par with the rest of them. You may question my five star rating here, well this is based on service. Time for a funny story and as my family would call it "a memory". My Uncle had taken my cousins and I to lunch on his lunch break. He is an business investment banker so he's always dressed to the nines. Long story short, we all had iced tea to drink so the waiter brought us 5 iced teas plus a pitcher for refills. Something happened along the way and just like you see in movies the tray of tea went all over my Uncle. Without even asking or complaining (we were all laughing too hard) the manager came out offered to comp everything and pay for my Uncle's dry cleaning! My Uncle declined and chalked it up to accidents happened. We paid for our meal, went on our way and still laugh about it 2 years later. It was the thought that counts and clearly the Olive Garden has great standards.

UPDATE: Kevin B. (a member on this site) has sent me an update that they now do accept reservations. My review was from 2 years ago when I was a freshman. It was transferred over from TripAdvisor. We came with a group of 10, we are all in college, dressed well, and were well mannered. Pros: 1. Excellent food, I haven't been disapointed with the food here, its great 2. Breadsticks, so good 3. Warmups next day, always have enough to warm up for a filling lunch 4. Atmosphere, clean bathrooms, clean tables, nice decor Cons: 1. They don't take reservations for some bizarre reason and it took at least 2 hours to seat a group of 10 (kept letting groups of 4 in front of us) 2. Very pricey, I'm a college student, my meal was 27 bucks my girlfriends was 22 (including tip and tax). We didn't have desert, had no alcoholic beverages, she had water I had a soda. The price is just ridiculous and kind of cancels out the food quality. 3. Poor service for our group, it could very well be that because we were in college we were treated poorly. A. For 10 people we had 1 waiter. B. Had to pass out the plates (5 handed to each side people passed them down) C. Only brought 2 small bowls of salad (they were gone in seconds and 3 people didn't even get any) D. Asked for alfredo dipping sauce for breadsticks waitress forgot came closer to when the meal was served E. Was left waiting for soda refills It sounds a little picky, but for a forced 18% tip on a 40 dollar bill for the service we received was ridiculous. 4. Some of the people that came into the place were dressed overly casually (sweatpants, looney tunes t-shirts (this was an adult), and a lot of mothers brought their crying babies who wailed throughout the entire dinner.

This OG is pretty standard but they have really good service, which sets them above average. We went last night and it took about an hour and a half for two adult entrees and two kid entrees, seating to leaving. But the food was above expectations when it arrived. This is a VERY busy location and if you hit it at the wrong time, you'll have difficulty with parking and a wait. Once you're seated, you won't feel rushed. Wait staff is knowledgeable about the menu and wine selections. Our server last night recommended a wine that I would order again. She was also attentive without being intrusive, anticipatory about refills of bread and beverages, and kept us updated about the status of our meal, which did take longer than this location's usual. You can get Olive Garden anywhere but what you can't get everywhere is good service, which is worth the wait.

I've ate at a lot of Olive Gardens. I feel the Altoona one is a hit or miss. I sometimes wish I could drive to another one on certain nights. Some night, the service is great, the food is amazing, if you're picking up a to go, it ready when you get there, the place is the clean, the hosts are nice and friendly. Then you get there and the service is terrible, the food sizes are small, hardly any sauce, look burnt, or like they've been sitting for while. I was told my to go would be ready in 15-20 mins the one night, I waited 50-55. They never said anything other then, we are sorry, we have a big party and we have their food to make too. REALLY? I almost said give me my money back, you can keep your food, it didn't taste great by the time I drove my 5-8 mins home. They could have taken some money off my bill or gave me a free meal the next time. Lucky to be getting 3 stars, but like I said they are hit or miss here.

The service was great. Food was excellent. If there was any downfall is everything came too quickly.

Wow, service here tonight is the worst I have ever experienced here. Nearly an hour and not here. Place is nearly empty. No apology offered by waitress no manager in site.

Before I started using Yelp, my wife and I came here all of the time thinking Olive Garden was the only restaurant in Altoona. We would get the endless soup and salad and eat until we were stuffed. The staff was always friendly and they would come around and give us wine samples frequently. On a weekend night, get here early because this place becomes packed.

Service was not great. No greeting when we entered the building or at in the bar area, which was empty. Instead, one bartender yells over to another to discuss who had to take the table. Hmmmmm... Why do you work in the service industry if you don't want tables. Do you need to discuss it in front of the table that you have yet to greet??? Thank goodness the person who did step up to serve us was very polite. The quality of the food doesn't matter when the serve leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Top notch! Everything about this place was perfect. It was clean and the staff, well let's just say on top of things and never left you down. The food was prepared in a decent amount of time and when it was served it was hot! The entire team here works together and is as friendly as can be! When I come back to this area I will surely visit again!

Awesome food but what made it even better was the extraordinary service. Lexi was great, thanks. Will definitely be back.

Ate at the Altoona Olive Garden last night for my Uncle's birthday and left wondering why my family chose to go there over the other independent restaurants in the area. I guess it must be the never-ending soup and salad, because the entrees (from bland pastas to meat dishes) were totally lackluster. Maybe people go to Olive Garden for the decor? It is a pretty restaurant relative to some other locally-owned places that serve much better food (like the Knickerbocker or Athenian Cafe), but shouldn't restaurants be about the food?

My boyfriend took me here the two times I visited Altoona, and I have to say that this is the best Olive Garden I've been to. It's not the nicest looking (but certainly not the worst or close to it), but the breadsticks were better than at other OGs and I thought my fettuccini alfredo was superior. The minestrone soup was great, too. I feel sort of weird reviewing a chain, but I just thought I'd say that if you are visiting Altoona and haven't been to an OG or have been to one with a bad experience, then try this one.

Had a nice lunch here today with some friends from work. I was on a time frame so, the waits between soup and drinks and the check made me late returning for work. Soup and Salad is always good. I would go back.... maybe just not when I'm on a time schedule...:)

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
