Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Let me start by saying I'm not one who generally posts negative reviews - but I hadn't been to the Gourmet Buffet in close to a year so my daughter and I decided to go for dinner last night, as I've had good experiences there in the past. Not sure what changed as I have generally gone for lunch - but having dinner wasn't the best experience. Yes - there was a ton of food and a good selection, and the staff are constantly bringing out more so it is hot and very clean. But it really had no flavor - everything was very bland. I love Chinese food and tried an assortment of items - lo mein, fried rice, spicy chicken, Japanese chicken, pepper shrimp - and it was pretty flavor-less. Also, with the exception of chicken with broccoli and steamed rice, everything was fried, so it was difficult to find anything semi-healthy. I did have some sushi and it was pretty bland, too, except for the piece I had with seaweed on too, which was extremely sweet, like it had been soaked in sugar water :( My nine-year old had traditional food and didn't fare much better - like most kids, she loves pizza and chicken strips and Mac n cheese, but said the pizza tasted funny, the chicken strips tasted like fish, and the Mac n cheese was too runny. The fruit, desserts and ice cream were fine (except be careful with the ice cream toppings as they are right beside the condiments and aren't well marked - I almost put cocktail sauce on my ice cream lol). The place was packed and does offer a large selection of food (even seafood - crab legs and shrimp were piled on diners' plates) in a traditional buffet setting for a reasonable price - but if you're thinking you'll come here for a "gourmet" experience or really tasty food, that's not the case.

Being such a small town, I opted to go here for dinner as opposed to Outback or TGI Fridays. I figured this would give me a variety of protein options. Well, no. There is nothing gourmet about the food or ambiance. It's the same ol run of the mill Buffett. Except the selection is very limited, the food has been sitting long past its hold time, and most things are fried. If you live in such a town as this, and this is all of which you've ever been presented, I'm sure they think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's not. It's no where near on par to a Chinese buffet and for them to call it gourmet should be illegal. On an upside: The establishment appears clean & well staffed. #whomp

Well, if you are going to overeat at a buffet, it might as well be this one. Keep in mind that thinner people check out the full buffet before taking food (there is a paper on that), and this checking out here will require some walking. the food was basically fresh and basically good, not exciting good, but not bad for a buffet good. would go again. could be spicer. has some asians in it. at $11 per person it is just into moderate.

Food is usually good. And there's always a nice selection of fresh food at the buffet. My only complaint is the Clams... I love clams.. however, their clams always seem to be sandy and taste really fishy..

My Momma took myself and my twin brother here when I was visiting in Pennsylvania. It was amazing! There was so much to choose from. And unlike the chinese places in California, this place had General Tso's chicken, which is my favorite! I hadn't had it in nearly ten years. It was so good! And it was relatively cheap to eat here, as opposed to places in California. It was really a great experience. Hopefully I can come back when I'm visiting in July!

Great place to eat...it has variety and very reasonably priced! The food was awesome! Chinese food was excellent but they had so much more and like others have said it's a big place too! Will be back!

Okay, sure I talk about my inner FOB. A lot. But I have a confession to make. I grew up in Delaware. Very white suburban Delaware. I am really white-washed. Growing up, I would be what people consider a Twinkie. I thought Delaware was almost as white as you could get on the East Coast (barring the Midwest). But then, I visited Altoona, PA. And found myself truly in the land of white, white suburbia. But of course, my family wanted Chinese. Despite the plethora of all-American options around. So of the 3 Chinese restaurants nearby, we go to the local Chinese buffet that is Altoona Gourmet. Remember, Chinese like buffets (very price efficient and all). Especially if you ever see me eat. Anywhere else, this place would probably get a 2-2.5. But for Altoona, I'll give it a solid 3. Sure, it's American Chinese food. Sure we were the only non-white customers. But at least the owners and waitresses were authentic Chinese (straight from the motherland!). But it was reasonably priced. And I was hungry (not eating all day and moving boxes will do that to you). So I ate more than my share. So after: 2 plates of entrees, 1 fresh stir-fried (spicy!) noodle plate, 1 heaping helping of crab legs, 1 cup of soup, 1 plate of fruit and desserts, and 2 bowls of ice cream later... I left decently satisfied. Yay for Chinese people willing to open restaurants in the middle of nowhere!

Defiantly the best Chinese buffet in Altoona. The food is great, and the service is good. I only go on Friday and Saturday now because their the only days they serve crab legs. This is the reason and only reason why I gave it 4 stars and not 5. Done bother the American side much but the Chinese side and hibachi are awesome.

Without a doubt the best Chinese buffet in the Altoona area. The service here is good, the staff is friendly, and the buffet is the biggest. We order take-out from this place all the time, and the manager always gives us a discount. They have LIVE TURTLES in their fountain, too, which is always fun for the kids to look at. They offer a wide variety of chinese and american dishes as well, and they keep the dishes well-stocked. Love their walnut chicken and sushi!

If you're looking to pig out on some fresh, hot Chinese and American food, this is the place for you! If you really expect this place to be "gourmet" for a less than $10, I don't know what to tell you.

I always enjoyed the Altoona Gourmet Chinese Buffet when my wife was in nursing school. The food is really good, a lot of selections, and they even have really good sushi rolls. All for a very cheap price. Best Chinese Buffet in Altoona.
