Because I'm under the age of 60, I don't usually go to diners for lunch (unless I'm craving a turkey club) or for dinner (unless I'm craving a chef's salad). I do, however, regularly visit diners for breakfast--hungover or otherwise. The Parkland (no one calls it a "restaurant") is your best bet for a solid diner breakfast in West End Allentown. Nick's is a pillbox. Parking at the West Side Diner/Colonial Diner is treacherous. The Ham Fam has dipped into mediocrity. At The Parkland there's plenty of space for even big-bellied patrons (there are many), parking spaces abound, and the food--as long as you know what to order--tastes pretty darn good. First off, if you're not ordering scrapple for breakfast, get the hell out of Pennsylvania. This is the land of the hardworking, weather-beaten, resilient Amish people. Do you think they survived this long on dainty slices of ham for breakfast? Hell no! They eat thick slabs of mashed up pig parts mixed with cornmeal! Just as you should! And The Parkland prepares its scrapple perfectly. The quarter-inch-thick rectangles arrive crisp around the edges and slightly soft in the center, a two-textured treat of porky deliciousness. Order your scrapple with sunny-side up eggs and hashbrowns. Apply ketchup liberally. If, for whatever reason, you're not feeling like scrapple, order my two trusty backups: the breakfast quesadilla, which also gives you an excuse to make a Napoleon Dynamite joke, or the gyro omelet, which has been scientifically proven in rigorous, double-blind lab tests to cure even the most vicious, brain-ripping hangovers. And, on second thought, order each with a side of scrapple. You should never not feel like scrapple.

Food is predictably good. All the breakfast stuff is good. Waitresses are consistently pleasant and quick!

Really good food at a good price. The waitresses care about the customers and they keep your coffee mug full. I had corned beef hash, wasn't amazing but it was good.

Terrible treatment at this diner. Ordered 2 Cinnamon French Toast and got 3 instead. Waitress said I would be only charged for 2. Ate 3 bites and sent it back to kitchen because it had so cloying with too much cinnamon, I couldn't eat it. I requested white toast instead which I received. When the waitress brought the bill, she explained that she had to charge me for the French Toast because I had eaten some of it. Not only was I charged for the French Toast but I was also charged for the white toast. The hostess asked if I was pleased with the meal. I told her what I thought of the charge for the French Toast which I couldn't and didn't eat and the extra charge for the toast. She said she was sorry but there was nothing she could do. Neither my husband or I will ever return.

All I want is breakfast...how hard is that. I asked for eggs over medium they came running off the plate. The toast was not toasted and cold. Ham was cold. Potatoes were burnt on top and tasteless inside. I complained at front desk after I was told they charged me for coffee and should not have. The waitress I complained to was not our girl she was lost somewhere. I told the woman my eggs were so bad and she was soooo smart with me. We just paid and left. This place just ruins my appetite. Readers Choice Award means danger business is going downhill fast. Everytime we see this sign outside a business we laugh because we always and I mean always have a bad experience............................

Great place my husband and I ate there last Sunday morning. We live close and decided we would try this restaurant. We were seated quickly and they had a full parking lot, we really thought we would have had a long wait! While we were waiting for our breakfast they served us with a little surprise, little muffins while we waited for our food! I thought it was a nice touch, shortly after our food arrived and it was delicious! My husband has declared it is the best scrapple in the Valley! We will be returning and bringing some friends with us!

Finally my mom and I went for breakfast and it was so delicious. We will definitely be back for lunch, dinner and some homemade dessert yummy

We were regulars here, mostly for breakfast. The food and selection is great and moderately priced. The one night we stopped for dinner. My wife ordered chicken and it arrived seriously undercooked. She pointed it out to the waitress who offered to exchange it. Wife declined, no longer hungry. Waitress said she would take it off the bill. Within minutes, the apparent owner of the place arrived at the table explaining how the chicken was not overcooked and went on to complain how he could not serve the chicken to anybody else (duh) and that this was costing him money. Astonished, we paid the bill, left and never returned. In fairness, this was a year ago and I believe there may be new ownership now. I only gave 2 stars instead of one because of the hundreds of fine meals we enjoyed in the past before this unconscionable incident.

I ate at the Parkland diner once a month for two years. It's always good food at good prices served by staff that care about you enjoying yourself. I love all the breakfast options and the chicken croquettes are really delicious. The early dinner scene is adorable, as older couples flock here for the senior specials. It's cute to quietly eat while overhearing all the old married couples chat away about their troubles. A really good local spot.

The server we had was lucky we gave her the 4$ tip we did on our 30$ tab, me and my mother both work in the business and are avid restauranteurs, the food was soso, service was bad. Most likely will not return would not recommend

The menu isn't as vegetarian friendly as I would like but there is nothing like a neighborhood diner. Friendly staff, great service.
