Great Breakfasts. I don't get to Yachats as often as I would like, but when I do and have time, I always try to stop at the Blue Whale for breakfast. I have been going there, granted only a couple times a year, for over 20 years. Best traditional American breakfast I think I have ever had. Excellent hash browns, sausage links and eggs. Great pancakes. delicious sausage gravy for biscuits and gravy. The coffee isn't the best, but I'll keep going back.

Not very attentive wait staff took 20 minutes for order to be taken only three other customers. Two waitresses on staff. Hope the food is better than the service. Coffee okay ordered Taco omelet on special a little pricey but guess you have to pay for the coast and a city tax to boot. Redeemed themselves with food omelet was good biscuits and gravy good attentiveness improved a little.

Some of the complaints I saw were valid. We had a strange, almost unintelligible waitress. She was nice though, even though we couldn't tell what she was saying since she talked so fast. Maybe too much caffeine? Also, the clam chowder was gross. Don't order it, you will be sad. The four stars are for the mind-blowing fish and chips! They use thick, juicy halibut cuts. Just thinking about it is making my mouth water. If you like fish and chips, do not miss this stop in Yachats. It is the best fish and chips I have ever had. You will not be disappointed. And maybe they will see this review and fix the clam chowder. I'll let you know, but until then, just stick with the fish and chips. ;)

AVOID THIS PLACE!! Service is the worst I've ever had and the menu simply sucks. While I tried to be understanding, the host/manager continued to complain as she hurriedly took our order and couldn't slow down enough to speak clearly...saying "I just talk fast, you need to listen". No matter how many times I asked to repeat herself, she would not slow down and couldn't understand a darn word she said. A stressed out staff, dirty tables and floor, disgusting restroom and probably some of the worst breakfast food I've ever attempted to eat. THIS IS THE WORST RESTAURANT in Yachats...AVOID IT!

Disappointing. I asked a couple questions to my server about the food and she came across rude. Also why did all the white people in the restaurant have large glasses for their water but my table of non white people got the small glasses. Hmmm. The onion rings were good so that's one positive.

Don't get me wrong, the food here is good diner fare: nothing fancy but decent. It loses a star for 2 reasons. 1)there is no kids meal for breakfast. Worse, they wouldn't even simply make a small pancake and put some of their strawberry compote on it. If wanted that, we would have needed to purchase the adult version only, which is absolutely huge for a 4 year old, not to mention expensive when most of it would not be eaten. 2) This is a big place and they only have single toilets for their patrons. Worse, the men's toilet wobbles like crazy and their tp is so fine I can't call it even single ply. It's more like half ply, if such a thing could exist. Finally, while the service was timely, or waitress actually simpered. I have never been in the presence of simpering before, and I have to say that it is a little weird to experience it.

The good: Nice mural. Reasonable prices. Local crafts for sale in front case. Location. The bad: Understaffed slow breakfast "service". My friend and I both got food poisoning sick from the omelet, hash browns. I felt a lot better after I lost mine several hours later after I couldn't hold it down any longer. This never happens to me.

Very good food and well-priced. We tried the Clam Chowder, Fish n Chips, and Shrimp Fetuccini. All of them were great. Very good priced. It seems that everyone complains about service, it was OK for us. We enjoyed also pie for dessert (apple a la mode).

Our server seemed disinterest and mad. Some of the food seemed alright but my Bay scallop Alfredo was unimpressive at best. The cups for drinks were slightly bigger than coffee cups which seems cheap and makes the server have to constantly check to see if you have taken two drinks and finished the drink. My "soup" was Chili Mac and it was honestly kind of gross.

Pretty good chowder. The fried oyster omelette thing was delicious. I think this is where the locals eat. The waitress was really engaging and funny.

I was going to give this a 2 star since I rarely give out one stars, but this was an abortion of a breakfast. I called in a pickup order since I know that they're *always* extremely slow whether or not there are customers, showed up 20 minutes on the nose as I'd been told my food would be ready by then. The waitress ignored me while I stood at the counter for a couple minutes, then grabbed my order and rang it up without a word other than asking my name first. On the way back to the car I realized my order felt *suspiciously* light, so I opened it and sure enough, 4 pieces of bacon, a small order of some weak-looking home fries, and no half order of biscuits and gravy. I returned inside and watched both waitresses set out forks and napkins and chat with regulars for close to 5 minutes before someone acknowledged me (because a table had got up and wanted to use the register I was standing next to, with a bag of food in hand,) and it turned out that my biscuits and gravy had been there on the counter, the waitress simply didn't put my entire order into the bag, despite ringing up three items she only put two into the bag the first time. Oh well, I had expected shitty service since my family's been going here for years when we're in yachats, so i went back to the beach house. I opened up my order and my "half order of biscuits and gravy" was literally half of a biscuit (!!!) smothered in straight-up canned gravy from a gas station. The home fries were about half the size of the portion I'd expect for 3 or 4 bucks, and they had obviously been steamed the night before, and spent about 90 seconds on a griddle before being scraped up and thrown right into the box - not a single potato was cooked on more than one side, and several of them were definitely bordering on being edibly cooked at all. The 4 pieces of bacon (as we all know, extremely expensive in restaurants) were so cold and brittle I thought that they'd come from a steam tray from the day before. $13 dollars down the drain, for a breakfast i couldn't finish because it was just that bad. Next time I'll bite the bullet and spend $16 at ANY OTHER PLACE IN YACHATS and know that my food will be very, very good, instead of poorly-made bog-standard diner fare.

Great service. .. delicious food and located in a beautiful part of Oregon. One thing I will look at before eating at a restaurant are the floors. If dirty then we won't eat there. So, this restaurant is clean! !

The special was Halibut and chips. It was really good. The halibut was fresh and the batter was good also. The pie was very good. The service was friendly and timely. The rest of the tables seemed to be getting all sorts of great looking hamburgers. I will try one next time I go over if they don't have the halibut.

Nothing wrong with this place. Just a nice local diner. Not great.. Not bad. Not many options, either. But I could see myself going here occasionally even if there were other options. Nice selection of food from breakfast to dinner.

Hate to give a restaurant one star but by golly Leroy's Blue Whale in Yachats deserves it. Awful food and a staff that just plain doesn't care. That combination makes for a very unpleasant dining experience. It's a shame because Leroy's Blue Whale is really a very attractive restaurant. The blue building catches your eye from the outside and the inside looks like a comfortable family seafood restaurant. Not so! Upon entering Leroy's Blue Whale I was confronted by a sign that said, "Please wait to be seated." That was a dilemma because the staff at Leroy's acted like they didn't want to be bothered with seating me. I almost left. Wish I had! Most of the seafood at Leroy's Blue Whale is deep friend. Thought I'd try the monkfish. What I received was a greasy strip of monkfish with a side of cold, unseasoned, canned corn. I swear I could of prepared a better meal for myself in my motel room. However, the staff at Leroy's does not seem to care if you're satisfied with your meal. Until I hear of some improvement from my fellow Yelpers I will be passing Leroy's Blue Whale in Yachats by.

We have eaten here several times. We have indulged on breakfast lunch and dinner items. Everything is great especially the scalllops for dinner and the burgers~The Blu Cheese Burger is too die for!!

We stopped here for lunch. It is an average diner that is not very notable. I tried one of the colossal/massive (?) burgers and it was an absolute mess. Over half my plate was filled with liquid and grilled onions that had dripped out. The rest of the food we ordered was just average. Service was fine other than I never had a coffee refill.

This place was my dad's favorite place to eat fish n chips and I know why...the fish is very thick and large cut and the batter or breading is not thick and greasy so you can really taste the fish. We really love the coleslaw too and I opt for extra coleslaw and hold the fries myself. I cannot comment on the rest of the menu because we always get the same thing here. We feel it is definitely worth the drive from Florence fr the fish! I see comments that the staff was not courteous, but we have always liked the staff and been served very well. The place is not fancy but hole in the wall cozy to me.

I really hate giving one star reviews. I wish I could write that this was a wonderful place to dine but I would be lying. We had such high hopes as a car mechanic told us to eat at Le Roy's Blue Whale. Oh man, will we ever learn to check in with Yelp before we try a restaurant !! I ordered the calamari rings and was really looking forward to eating them. (what can I say, I'm a squid lover !) What arrived was two pounds of fry's and 12 deep fried calamari/squid rings. Two of the rings were solid and simply deep fried dough balls ! YUCK ! NASTY ! As for the rest of our experience, all the other reviews nailed this place to perfection or would that be infamy . . .

It's just what you'd hope for in a tourist town--good service, homemade pies, decent breakfasts, reasonable prices. All with a great whale mural. What's not to like?

Once upon a time The Blue Whale was my favorite restaurant. I was 7 and I liked to eat the burgers and read the silly stories that came on the place mat. Then I grew up and realized that the Blue Whale doesn't have very good food. Then I grew even older and realized that, in reality, the Blue Whale actually has pretty bad food. The chowder is disappointing for a coastal town and over priced. The burgers are bland and the buns seem to be day olds shipped from the grocery store in Waldport. Unfortunately, I'd recommend skipping the Blue Whale. The staff is cranky, the prices are high, and the food blows. They do still have nice story placemats about the Wild West though. One additional star for that.

Errr....I had the French dip and Mr. Picky had the patti melt, my advice would be, don't get anything with beef. We both got sick, me worse.

We were at the coast during the heat wave this summer, and looked on yelp to find somewhere to eat. The previous reviews led us here -- and astray. The whole place reeks of old fried fish, and although it wasn't busy, service was slow and bad. The staff had an argument about were to put us (four adults, three kids), and decided on the most inconvenient booth possible. This took us past the pies someone else mentioned, which turned out to be sad-looking pie-filler concoctions sitting in a glass case for who knows how long. After we looked at the uninspired menu for a while, we had a few questions, like what the vegetable of the day was. I guessed "over-steamed broccoli", and after waiting for a ridiculously long time for an answer (did I mention they weren't busy), turned out to be right. So we eventually just decided to leave, and went instead to the Landmark Restaurant down the road, which is what you should do as well.

I wish I had consulted Yelp before trying this place out. We won't be back. At either of their locations. And I don't recommend anyone else going there if you are looking for a good meal with friends and family, either. The waitstaff was not unfriendly, exactly, but very ... stern? They hurry you so fast while you're trying to order that you begin to just say, "OK, Sure, bring me whatever!!!" We felt like we were a bother to the waitstaff, even though all we were trying to do was order our food and ask for things which they had missed because they had run off before we were done ordering. They were also rude to our son. He had to repeat his order several times while the lady kept asking him to speak up even though people at two other tables were looking over at us like, "Why is your son talking so loud?" It was like the waiter didn't like kids or something. Our son was embarrassed. Anyway - it was very weird. The food was gross. The burgers are greasy and awful. It's really a strange thing ; greasy burger patty, cheap oily cheese (you can always tell the quality of the cheese by how well it melts), limp veggies, and then some kind of whole grain (?) or multi grain (?) bun? Why attempt any kind of healthier version of a hamburger bun if the rest is still going to be awful and greasy and gross? It wasn't just the burgers. The fish and chips were horrible - they use pollock and it tasted so bland and bad and the breading was dripping with grease. The potato salad bland. The cole slaw tasted sour. The shake wasn't blended all the way and had streaks of crystallized bitter stuff in it. The french fries were good. I'll give them that. One star for the french fries. :) But we thought we'd split a piece of pie so we didn't leave entirely grossed-out (the pies were said to be homemade)... but even the pie was bad. The filling was more juicy and less fruity - there were three sickly pieces of fruit and the rest was that juicy/pulpy filling stuff - and the crust tasted like ... I dunno... crisco and flour or something. It had a weird artificial and greasy flavor to it. Not impressed. And we had it warmed up a la mode, too. And it still wasn't good. We were sorry to have chosen this place. I was wishing that I was one of those people who could ask for a refund on horrible meals, but I'm just not that kind of person. We paid $55 for this meal plus we actually gave a 20% tip. A tip! We are too nice. Ugh.

WARNING! How can I describe how bad the service was on 10/24/10? The place was moderately busy and the waitresses moved n slow motion. We waited for menus, we waited for water, we waited to get served. It was the single worst service experience (or lack there of) I have ever had in a restaurant. ..and they don't care! The food was mediocre at best. I left no tip. How does this place stay in business?

Hand cut and battered fish and chips best I have had in quite awhile- fresh not frozen. They do a great job at this local diner. Menu has a great selection and you can't beat the homemade desserts. If breakfast is your thing make sure to try the Spanish omelet! Family favorite with the homemade sauce.

  • Clay H.

My biscuits were stale, the gravy was cold and the corned beef was from a can. The service was below average. The price was a little high for what you get too. That about sums it up.

I'm giving Leroy's a 3 star rating because they had a sign saying please wait to be seated, then they walk up and say seat yourself... a little weird.. Whatever.. Also the 3 stars because their cleaning committee isn't doing there job, there was dead carcass's on the sill of the window's.. Kinda gross looking at the window and seeing dead animals. The food.. The fish and chips were delish!! Super yummy. Their clam chowder was pretty good. I wish I would of saved room for one of their slices of pies.. They didn't even offer it either.. Guess if your plate isn't clean.. they won't bother..

This is a family friendly resteraunt. We went here for breakfast this weekend with godchildren in tow. Nice, open spacious seating allows for easy manuvering around the place if you've got little ones. Menu was varied enough that there was something to make everyone happy. I really enjoyed the biscuits and gravy, which is saying something. I am from the midwest and a picky gravy girl! I am allergic to everything in the water, but I do hear that they make an amazing clam chowder!

  • Aaron K.

Definitely a family-friendly place, as has been mentioned in other reviews. They have excellent burgers, and the pies... OH MY GOODNESS!! Make sure you don't leave here without having some of their homemade pie! I had the chocolate creme pie... and it was AWESOME!

Staying next door at the Ya'Tel Motel, my husband and I were looking for great food and were excited when the Motel's owner, Dennis, told us the Blue Whale had incredible food at reasonable prices. We didn't want one of the shi-shi places down the road, but good food in a relaxed atmosphere. And that is exactly what we got. We ate both dinner and breakfast here and the food and service were fantastic. The waitresses are very nice and helpful. The fish and chips are out of this world, the shrimp scampi is unlike any I've ever had, and the dinner roll will make you drool -- it's so good. We got dessert to go: A piece of strawberry-rhubarb pie a la mode and a piece of caramel apple pie -- both really good. For breakfast we had blueberry pancakes served with warm blueberry compote, an omelet featuring the restaurant's homemade chili, and biscuits and gravy. It was really good, down-home food. When we come back to Yachats, we will definitely stay next door at the Ya'Tel again and we will likely only eat at the Blue Whale -- there is no need to go eat anywhere else. Why be disappointed when the best food is right there?

This place makes me sad because I'm a big fan of Yachats. Its food is inconsistent at best. Go here for breakfast or their halibut and chips. It's the only reason I'm giving them two stars instead of one. From the outside, it looks like a cozy diner where you might get fresh and seasonal dishes, but that isn't the case. As soon as you walk up to the door, you're instead greeted by a foul smell of rotting fish and hippy armpits because they keep their huge garbage right by the entrance. It might be appetizing to some of the drifters that come through selling broken mussel shells they found on the beach, but definitely no one else. First off, these people won't bring you water. (I've seen reviews where they say they only give tall glasses of water to the white people, but I'm white and saying fuck that. They won't give it to you PERIOD.) Most of your servers will sigh and say what a long, hard day they've had if you're stupid enough to ask them how they're doing. Everybody there has a sour face and hides as much as possible. Do you need something? Be prepared to never get it because you won't ever see your server. The place feels like it hasn't been cleaned since it opened. I'd volunteer to do it for them, but judging by the locations of their garbages and their shitty attitudes, they'd prefer to serve you food with dust and bug exoskeletons. Three people in my party ordered halibut fish and chips. I ordered a chicken sandwich because I was skeptical about their seafood. I paid for that. What I got was two pieces of toast, a fried chicken strip, and a slice of Swiss cheese that had been zapped in the microwave. It came with no mayo, mustard, lettuce, or tomato, which is something I feel is standard when ordering a chicken sandwich. It was dry, rubbery and tasteless. I was really disappointed. My s/o touched it at one point and in the voice of Gordon Ramsay said "damn." I ended up just nibbling off of his plate. HOW CAN YOU NOT EVEN PUT MAYONNAISE ON A CHICKEN SANDWICH???? We came back for breakfast the next day because the Drift Inn was a shit show. I always enjoy being stared down by a biker gang, don't you? Anyway. Breakfast is average. Their cook can make eggs and anything fried just fine, but ask them to make you a pancake and it comes out more like a hockey puck. It's dark and dry. I'd stick with fried eggs and hash browns. I would like to make a personal plea to anyone that works there reading this: CLEAN YOUR CEILING. IT'S GROSS.

I've been eating here for the last 20 years since I was five I love their food!!! Service is a bit hit and miss. But the food is consistent. If I've ever got a cold dish it's because the server left it in the window for 10 minutes there's one server in the morning who is just the best. Her name is Diane!!! And the morning cook is stellar!!! The point I'm trying to get at is. Why pay for over priced bull shit when u can get something that cuts straight to the point. I'm hungry... Fill me up. And at a price that's good!! Leroy's Blue Whale has done this and more for the last 35 years and I hope there around for the next 35 years!!!!

I was a bit nervous to eat here with my family because of the 3 star rating, and the fact that we arrived 30 minutes before closing. I asked if we were too late to be seated and the staff assured us we were not. We were seated and given menus. They have some great dinner specials, the three adults chose the $12 10oz rib-eye meal. The kids ate off the kids menu and got fish and chips. The three of us had three different ways we wanted the steak cooked and all three came out perfectly!!! I was seriously impressed. We then came for breakfast on our way out of town. Again, not disappointed. Huge portions and the fruit plate $4 was huge and very fresh!! We will definitely be back!!!

YOU'LL GET WATER, IF YOU ASK, BECAUSE THERE ARE CURRENT WATER RESTRICTIONS IN YACHATS. That being said, this is a pretty alright spot to eat. This is a tourist town, so during high season, there may be a wait. It happens. Food is decent, as well as the prices, and I've never seen trash cans near the interior side of the doors.

I was in the Yachats area on a mini vacation and ended up at LeRoy's Blue Whale based on a friend recommendation. We had a party of 6 and got the famous corner booth. Decor is clean looking and diner'ish. Diners are cool in some respect and have filled American's stomachs for decades. I ordered the bacon burger and can't remember what everyone else ordered but the food came hot and fresh. No one had a single complaint. My burger was really good actually. The service was good. Our orders were taken promptly & friendly. The food was cooked and delivered fast keeping in mind there was only one other party in the diner at the time. I would consider my experience at the Blue Whale as good. In fact they even served us water. Something they don't dare do in California because, WE DON'T HAVE ANY FRIGGIN WATER!

For the love of God, please take out your trash. As soon as I approached the front door I slapped across the face with the lovely aroma of hot garbage. I looked to my immediate right and I noticed two massive trash cans that smelled like Satan's ass. Upon entering the Blue Whale I noticed a cart used for busing tables. It had and overflowing garbage can attached to it! It was positioned a couple feet away from a family of four dining on whatever slop they ordered. That is a direct violation of the Oregon Public Health Division. Upon entering, I noticed a coffee cup in a display case at the register that I would have considered purchasing as a souvenir. I asked this extremely bitter lady at the counter if I could buy it. She snapped back at me, "That's not for sale!" Wow, sorry. Look lady, the damn thing was in a case that had things for sale. I didn't know that restaurants collected coffee cups of THEIR OWN DAMN RESTAURANT. Moving along with my attempt at a meal, I'm second generation Filipino and noticed that I was the only non-Caucasian individual in the packed restaurant. I wasn't even acknowledged by anyone for 15 minutes!!! I couldn't help but think the color of my skin played a role here. Finally, some greasy looking waiter came by, I asked him for a menu and a glass of water. He said, "I'll be right back". 10 MINUTES LATER arrived a pathetic little glass of water with what looked to be dandruff or human skin floating in it accompanied by a dirty, sticky menu. It took over 30 minutes to simply place my order. After 50 minutes of sitting there I decided I was too hungry to wait any longer. I walked down the street to C&K Market and bought a sandwich in two seconds. I picked up a brew to go, walked down to the beach and enjoyed my lunch. It was a lovely day. The best decision I made was to leave that hell hole. The point is, this place is smelly dump. I reluctantly give it 3 stars because Yachats is amazing and I don't want to steer people away from the "Gem of the Oregon Coast".

This morning my partner and I (we are a same sex couple) came to have breakfast at the diner. We got standard breakfast fare and it was fine. The reason I'm giving this place only 2 stars was the service. The server who waited on us was very mean and actually yelled at us twice! We literally came in with a great attitude looking forward to breakfast and after immediately being yelled at all I wanted to do was bail. We gave this person the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe they were just stressed. We were overly greatful and cordial to them hoping they would chill out. This did not seem to help as they yelled at us a second time and also mocked my partner when she was ordering. I'm not sure what the deal is; but per the other reviews I see this is a pretty regular occurrence. So consider this before you go to this restaurant.

We were driving up the coast and decided to stop for lunch. Big mistake. First off, there were only two other people in the place but the waitress seemed very disoriented or frazzled. I decided to order the finger steaks, which are one of their specialty items. So I figured they would have to be somewhat good, right? Nope. They were gross. The steak was over cooked yet the dough was mushy. I also ordered a side salad and asked for the dressing on the side. She smothered the salad in dressing. Wouldn't recommended this place to anyone.

My friends and I were super hungry after visiting Thor's Well so we stopped by the first place that looked like it would be good. We noted the parking lot was full so we decide to check it out. At first it seemed very warm and comforting. It seemed like the place was mostly regulars. There was something cool about that. We were greeted in a quick manner by our waitress. It was pretty busy so we didn't think too much of it. She came back with waters and to take our orders. One of my friends has some food allergies and asked the waitress to put whatever "sauce" that came on the burger, on the side. She rudely replied "It's thousand island." and then he proceeded to ask what other toppings were on the burger, what there ketchup... and her reply to the whole ketchup question was "NO, only sauce which is thousand island." At this point I was annoyed. Why was she making such a big deal about the thousand island!? Since we had walked down and back up from Thor's Well, we were all thirsty. The waitress took a long time to refill our water. We looked around and noticed everyone had tall glasses for their water while we had short ones. Funny thing was, everyone in the restaurant were white & we were the only Asians there. I then saw a couple Hispanics at a table a little down from us that also had short glasses. I can only assume that these people are racist! The food however was good. I got the clam strips and a side salad instead of fries... with THOUSAND ISLAND. It wasn't super amazing... which I was thinking it was going to be by the way the waitress made a fuss about it. As we left we all went to the bathroom since we had a long drive ahead of us. The bathroom was gross!! There was water all over the floor... I will never go back here again... In fact, I will never go back to this town.

Small town. Oregon Coast. What options do you have? In Yachats, there are actually quite a few. We had a mini-girls only-family reunion in Yachats and I had to go with majority rule. Stupid family. We headed to LeRoy's Blue Whale. There were seven in our party and the other ladies were seated quickly. I arrived after parking across the street (which I appreciate). It wasn't busy and took some time for the waitress to arrive. She finally did and brought us our H20 and took our orders. Service was meh. I had the smaller appetite fish and chips and added a cup of the smoked salmon chowder, the SOTD. The soup was meh but the fish was VERY good. I also liked their homemade tartar sauce. The others were happy with their orders. From BLT to ribeye, it was a pretty wide range of options that they offer. It wasn't awesome, it wasn't horrible. It was, as Yelp says, A-OK.

So terrible. Service was slow, even though we were the only group in the place. The restaurant was dirty, we got bread but no plates. It took 10 minutes just to get the list of pies and we had to send the pie back twice just to warm it up. There was so much breading on the fish, I didn't taste the fish. There are better restaurants in the area for dinner...

I'm a fan of diners and this spot fits the bill. I don't eat things from the ocean so I've only had the burgers here (the burgers are decent tasting and heartily portioned), but I hear good things about the fish and chips. The tarter sauce is good and makes a good dip for my fries. The placemats have interesting local folklore! Service doesn't stand out in my mind so it's neither superb or bad. When I'm in the area I'll always stop in to grab a bite!

Hey, so it's traditional American diner fare. My husband had 3 huge pieces of fresh halibut and a large helping of fries. I had a grilled turkey sandwich with real homemade potato salad yesterday. Even Gordon Ramsey would have approved. Leroys gets 3 stars from me. Who likes corned beef hash anyway (not me)?

We really didn't have a horrible experience here. It is your everyday ordinary diner, but this one has a super cool mural of an underwater scene on the wall. The place was clean and had a cozy diner feel to it. My girlfriend and I gave this place two chances. Dinner and breakfast. The food was average. The help was... Interesting? It is a small oceanfront community, and I don't live there, so it is hard to explain. Ha! We were served with proper greetings on both occasions. For dinner, I had a bacon Swiss burger. It was nothing special. The fries tasted like the oil in the fryer hadn't been changed for a while. For breakfast, I just had a half order of Biscuits and Gravy. Gravy was good. The biscuit was average. I wouldn't recommend this place, although your options in Yachats are limited and my girlfriend and I only ate at two different restaurants while in town... So... You probably won't die eating here, it's not a horrible place by any means, but don't expect anything more than an experience compared to your best day at a Denny's. Good luck!

We decided to give LeRoy's a shot for the first time a couple weeks ago after being to Yachats numerous times the past 4 years. We had breakfast and they were VERY busy. The food was solid diner fare. The waitress was attentive as she could be with the number of tables she was serving and helpful. The food was good enough to get us to come back on another day for lunch (take-out). We had the french dip sandwich and fries. The sandwich was good (bread nicely toasted, meat was tender and au jus was decent) and the fries were above average (crispy and seasoned well). The big reason to come back would be the pie! We got ours to go and we had to stop on the way out and get a couple pieces to take back home with us. The restaurant decor is a little out of date and the outside of the building is not very inviting but give Leroy's a try.

With not many choices to eat at in Yachats I'm so glad they are here food is best in town if they offered a larger menu I feel no other food place would survive you have to stop most employees are very pleasant

Let's face it, there aren't many places to eat on the coast. So if you are expecting fine dining at the Whale, you are in the wrong place, and the wrong part of Oregon, frankly. However, for diner type food that you can take your kids to, the Whale is good. It's a lot of food. I don't suggest the steak, but the chili dog or burgers are passable. The soups are generally fairly good. Service is usually slow and they WON'T substitute usually--so your kids are stuck with fries with a kids meal (we don't let our kids eat fries, usually.) But it's busy because there is little that is affordable in the area.

I'm not sure what the reason is for all the negative reviews. We eat a late breakfast here whenever we stay in Yachats, which is once or twice a year. It's clean, cute and has a local feel. The prices aren't jacked up like they are at some places in coastal towns. The service was prompt and friendly enough. They have western stories on the placemats that are so corny they are cute. The portions were big. Try it yourself. Some Yelpers are cranky whiners. It's the coast: enjoy it!

If your looking for the best fish and chips in Yachats come here. I am a local and I have tried the F & C at all Yachats restaurants. The Cod order comes with 3 large pieces and the best chips in town. I have never experienced bad service at the Blue Whale.

Don't expect too much and you'll be pleased. This is a basic old fashioned diner. We had some excellent fried chicken, grilled oysters and decent dinner salads. The service was fine. A good place to go in Yachats if you just want some basic food served decently. The only problem was the chicken gravy which was clearly made from some sort of packaged mix and had the consistency of pudding. They did serve a small loaf of hot bread with the salads which was good.
