Good place to go for Taco Tuesdays, just go later than 6, otherwise all the families will be holding up your order. Bartenders are also the wait staff so they are running around when it does get busy. Some funny old people hang at the bar like it's their living room talking smack to each other, but in a fun way. I haven't tried the other food, but taco Tuesday and wing wed seem to be popular. Not a good venue for music if you like to see the band playing cause the wall blocks your view, but the sound is good. Pool table is always in use by a mix of folks who all seem to be friendly.

Redid this review. Just thinking they had a bad day..but this was my experience: Stopped in for a quick burger and a taco salad on a Sunday at 11:30 am before heading to Mt Hood. Bad idea. Although we were the first people in the resteraunt...it took 45 minutes for our food..which looked like an 8-year old decided to open a resteraunt. The Taco salad was romaine lettuce with strips of meat. The burger was a disgusting ball of meat. Everybody has a bad day...but I don't think I'll be making a special trip back. And they really shouldn't care, because I'm not local...I live in Portland. This seems like a good place for people who live in Welches because they do have some nice big screen TVs for sports and although the food and speed of service wasn't great for a Sunday afternoon in August... That isn't exactly prime time for a sports bar. And the woman who was our food server was also the bartender and was juggling a lot of things that morning. So, I've upgraded them from 1 to 3 stars.

Not sure why the bad reviews! The service was fine, not over the top just fine! The food...REALLY GOOD! Our company, even better! I would drive back there just to eat and have some cold beers!

I have never been so appalled. After reading the reviews on yelp, I'm here to agree their customer service is anything but. I called because a group of friends and I are going to the mountain this weekend and we wanted to find a place to watch the UFC fights. Our resort suggested that we call The Shack. I called and asked an EXTREMELY unfriendly lady if they were showing them, she laughed at me over the phone and when I asked if she knew of anywhere that might be, she quite rudely asked who I was and if I'm calling BMI or ASCAP, which after researching, are two performing arts organizations. I certainly hope there food is better than the people that work there. After just a phone conversation, I will never go there, and will be deferring others as well. No one deserves to be treated that way.

Worst service ever. No that is wrong because we NEVER had anyone come to the table. They advertise 11 TVs too bad the Shack doesn't hire servers instead of running their bartender ragged trying to do it all. Stay away from this place

Service? Get it yourself. Two servers on BIG game night for the whole restaurant. Food was bland. Don't get the chicken & shrimp. No one knows how to work the TVs that are screwed up. Aspect ratios are displayed small on the big screen TVs.

I've never had anything but good service in here. Generally good music playing and an active pool game. Great hang out!

For a bar, this was a friendly place for snow bums and travellers alike. It is one of the few places open late at night on weekdays. I'll be back for drinks and pupus on my next visit.

On our way home from visting family in Central OR we decided to pop by and check out the digs here at The Shack. I was surprised as I walked through the door at how large the place really was. There are several pool tables and def has an "old buddy small town vibe". The food was actually pretty good and the drinks were good as well. This will def be a place I stop at again in the future.

Stopped here for dinner on the way from Portland to Redmond. Wasn't too sure what to expect considering the surrounding area of trees, trees, and more trees. Well, it was definitely a welcoming surprise! The service here is fantastic...super awesome waitress who gave some great recommendations! I had the rib eye steak with twice baked potato, and it was fabulous...all for $12.95! Say again? Yes...$12.95! If you're ever on the road between Portland and Redmond, this is the place to stop!

Dirty...go at night so you can't see the dust/dirt/grime. I had a beer and couldn't stay to eat.

This diner rewards its patrons with good value and honest, American diner food. I was pleasantly surprised by the Prime Rib dinner: $13 for a 12 oz cut (roasted in house and cooked to order) and served with au jus and generous helpings of vegetables and sides. I also had the good fortune of sampling the Tuesday cheap taco night at this diner: about $2 for three soft or hard tacos with a generous portion of meat and served with sides of sour cream and guacamole. Combined with a generously-poured aliquot of alcohol, I could see why my friend Fred and other locals are loyal acolytes of the Tuesday Taco Night ritual. Of note: the place is huge and can accommodate sizable groups of people (including minors during the day).

Up on the mountain, The Shack is the place locals hang out...construction workers, boarders and more. Phil sold the place and new owners took over March 17th and are bringing back the Lottery, live music, and adding new items like homemade cookies, handmade chips, peanut butter cups and a special ground bacon & beef burger. Coors Light is on tap, and happy hour drinks are less than $3. If you are a smoker, there is a patio out back. Big screen tvs, video games including Ms. Pacman, free wireless internet and a happy atmosphere. All the servers are positive, fast and friendly. I hear the menu is changing a bit, but the staples will still be there including Taco Tuesdays. The new owners, who have prior experience with the Whistle Stop and Brightwood Tavern, want to cut back a bit on the fried food too. For folks who stopped coming after Lottery was pulled, come back and try it again!

I ate there for the first time when my band played there, and loved the food! I had the taco salad which has a seasoned, shredded beef that's absolutely delicious. My husband had The Shack burger and said it was the best burger he's had in a long time. One friend had steak and another a chicken sandwich, and both raved about their food. We love to camp in the area, so I imagine there will be many more visits to The Shack in the coming years. Also worth a day drive for a change in scenery and good food.

Two Words- Taco Night. Tuesdays, cheap tacos, shuffle board, and gruff waitresses. If you're feeling plucky, go eat in Zig Zag- because if you aren't polite or you ruffle any feathers your ass will get kicked out. Plenty mountain feel in this place, good times....

I don't know how the food is, we did not get the chance. The place was emptying after a football game. We had 3 kids with us. My husband had to hunt down a waitress for a table...after she told us where to sit (around the bar area), and were seated, she turned around and told us that we couldn't sit there with minors. When we mentioned that there were table available but not clean one. She said sorry and walked away. On a packed evening, they had 1 waitress that I saw and she was rude. Not a pleasant experience at all.
