You may find yourself here like we did prior to exploring the Columbia River Gorge. Early morning hours, you're choices of breakfast places are limited. Here, a charming general store with a collection of retro decor. The food? I can't speak for the others here, but for us, breakfast hit the spot. Sure, not spectacular, but a basic plate of biscuits and gravy did what it was supposed to do. Nothing wrong coming here to fuel up. But no need to spend too much time here. Bigger and better things away along the Columbia River Gorge. Or if food is that much a priority, perhaps heading back into Portland would be the better way to go.

Went in today with about 20 other cyclists on a club ride. People very friendly to us all. My muffin and coffee were both very good. And unlike Grand Central in Portland, they could heat my muffin. In fact they asked if I wanted it heated! Of course I did. Who wants a cold pastry when you can have it hot! I'd give it 5 stars if the coffee creamer/milk was fresh - not prepackaged with chemicals.

It really is like a general store in the sense that it has a number of different items from ice cream, to sandwiches, to penny candy items, as well as doo dads and decorations dependent upon holiday. it has an upstairs as well as a downstairs.. if you go downstairs during Christmas you will see all kinds of Christmas decorations. They also do this during Halloween. There are jams, jellies, candies, hot sauces, greeting cards, as well as nostalgic era items like Tiddly winks and jacks as a for instance. Very hodge podge and really good stocking stuffers to be found.

Just drove in from Bend and was looking forward to stopping here with my family. We had stopped here in the past and enjoyed our visits. When we walked in we just got a real weird vibe. The lady behind the counter was totally unwelcoming. It felt like she was waiting for us to steal something. Being a minority I have felt this type of tension in the past. Someone else was walking by and she became a totally different person, smiling and engaging with them. My kids were looking at the toys and some old guy popped out from the back to tell them not to fight with the toys. Totally out of line as they were not fighting with them but they are kids. Here's a thought, maybe don't sell toys and candy if you don't want that demographic in your store. Needless to say, even though we are a Mexican family we have the means to pay for anything in their store. They really missed out on us buying a lot of their Chinese made junk because we walked out with nothing. On a happy note, we left there and went to Celebrate Me Home and they were totally nice and welcoming.

One of my favorite places to come when visiting the Portland area. It's a cute shop with an old time feel to it. It's full of all kinds of fun things to buy as well as having an old time looking bar area where you can get lunch or have a coffee. Everyone working here has been over the top friendly and give the feel of it being a family run business. Definitely recommend stopping here if you're in the area.

Great place to grab a coffee or even a sand which. Plenty of knickknacks to keep you entertained for quite some time. One thing I like is that they sell decorations for every season. Go get a coffee and sit outside and relax, it's perfect!

I love this store and restaurant! I love the smoked chicken salad sandwich and thats the only sandwich I buy when I go! The desserts are fabulous! The store is cute-especially the area where the candy is sold! Old fashioned candies you'll remember as a kid if you are from the 50's and 60's, however the candy is spendy as can be the restaurant food for lunch items. Depends on what you buy! The store is chock full of cute themed itemed items from wildlife, to cook stuff, to garden items to cabin/lodge. If you are after holiday seasonal decor, this is the store for you! Enter the basement and you will be overwhelmed with so much stuff you will never see every single item! Again on the pricey side if you ask me but thats my opinion! I have bought a few things here but enjoy the food and thats what I go for at lunch time!

I missed the AAA article about the "rebirth" of the Main Streets of America mentioning Troutdale, and I didn't know the name of the shop when I came in. I had to backtrack to the front door to make sure I was checking in the right store, so I suppose my rosy glasses for "old" general stores were still in the glove box of the car, too. I ignored the food; I had bigger fish to fry--or more correctly--bigger chickens, planned for our supper. The window of this place caught my eye! I had just peeked at some actual "antique" Halloween decorations at an earlier store which was haunted by calculating ghosts out to make a buck. We quickly scuttled out of that door when I saw the prices; they were the real fright of that shop. Ah, but here, good ol' Department 56 and suppliers of that ilk haunt this store and this window that had me squeal with delight. Made in China? No doubt. Autumn and Halloween lives on this first floor right now along with whatever that soda fountain serves up along with the whimsical, the Americana and the flat out funny tchotchkes (They have the official Trailer Park Game, for instance). Travel to the bowels of this edifice and Christmas appears to rock year 'round. Some pretty incredible pieces here, too, and for these types of things displayed here and elsewhere, all were reasonable. Especially, as it has been noted, this downtown is catering to the tourist. And that's OK, because that was exactly what we were.

Troutdale is an adorable TINY little town. Its so picturesque with kids playing in the river with the mountains rising behind. Troutdale General Store just belongs in a place like that. Its filled to the brim with knick knacks and candy. Downstairs is totally dedicated to holiday decorations. All along the right side of the shop is a tiny restaurant and ice cream bar. We shared a salted caramel ice cream cone and a creamsicle float. Both of which were delicious.

So it comes down to this: Food only gets 2 Stars... Chips that come with the sandwiches/burgers are straight from the bag... I had half of the turkey/cranberry/cream cheese sandwich and it was literally everything I just listed out with mayo and lettuce. Cranberry sauce was from the can... :/ As for my boyfriend and his friend, they both ordered the louisiana style roast beef hoagie roll and that was a big disappointment too! The mustard was good but very subtle. We also shared a smoked salmon chowder... there was barely any salmon in it and not much flavor... We ordered a half sandwich, 2 sandwiches, and a soup... totaling... $30... too much! None of the sandwiches were even that big. I honestly was hoping the food would be better! Decor gets 4 stars! I love how this store is so homey and welcome looking. It looks like they celebrate Christmas every day! There's an upstairs and downstairs full of Christmas novelty and barrels of candy, and other antique looking goods. I just wish their food was better! But on the upside, I love the atmosphere! If you're ever in the area, and tired from shopping at the outlets nearby, this place will definitely light up your mood! Just don't expect too much from the food ;-)

It's lame that you have to spend over three dollars before you can use your Visa card. Legally, I don't think they can do that. All I wanted was a coffee, for my business travels.

Don't go here. I wish I could give it negative stars. After having a look at the questionable food items, I figured ordering a black coffee would be playing it safe. I was horribly mistaken. I took two sips and couldn't go any further. It was luke warm and weak as a kitten. I suspect they reuse their coffee grounds because it tasted like dirty water. I asked the cashier if there was any way I could possibly get my money back. She went to get the manager. He proceed to inform me that they served "The best coffee in town." Which town he meant I am not entirely sure. After berating me he did finally give me a refund, as well as some good advice, "To get out and never come back." You don't have to tell me twice. All that over a two dollar cup of day old re brewed coffee is just criminal robbery. Last time I go anywhere without checking yelp first.. I can see I'm not the only one who has had a bad experience =)

I love it here. Lots of fun items for sale, great eye candy for those of us that love to shop. The only down side, was I wanted to purchase an item and only one sales person for the whole store....it was pretty frustrating and I ended up not purchasing it due to the line. My friends and I LOVE the soda fountain bar. We come in for ice cream and desserts, NEVER disappointed!

We visit the general store in Troutdale often, monthly perhaps. We have brought out of town guests to spend their money at the store too. The food is blah, stale, nothing to visit for on its own. The guy at the counter will make you feel like you're bothering him anyhow. Including our visit to the store last weekend which will stop us from shopping here. While most of the people that run this have never been cheery or friendly, the woman at the candy counter was downright rude to my family. I think they must have a lot of theft because she followed me, my husband and toddler around like a cat tracking an injured mouse. Not once did she engage conversation, or even smile. But she would hide behind things spying on me. Very odd. Very suspicious. I don't think I gave her any reason to be, I try hard not to touch anything because the store is packed with breakables. Anyway, relax woman. You are scaring away your good customers.

We had the BBQ Pulled Pork and found it delicious! Potato salad was very good, too. Prices not high for good food. Atmosphere super and fun and lots of cute and different Halloween Irma to purchase. Love it. It isn't a Claim Jumper or McDonald's...it is good home cooked food priced between the two.

This place is a Disneyesque representation of the old American general store. It has a candy counter, a soda jerk, ice cream, and some antique gas station pumps here and there to provide the flavor of the era. But mostly they sell brick-a-brack from China. Sort of Sugar Plum Fairies meets Sam Drucker and Chairman Mao - but the Chairman is dressed in overalls, strumming a banjo. A cartoonish representation of main-street American straight off the boat from China is not my cup of hot Chinese tea. The place just make me sad - what a bummer.

Great sandwiches, baked breakfast items, desserts, ice cream. They also have tons of vintage soda pop and candy. There is a terrific toy store here as well as a great knick-knack shop, antiques, holiday items and an entire Christmas section downstairs. The place is run by really nice people who obviously care a great deal about their business and customers. We try to make it out to Troutdale at least once a week if we can.

Hideous. The guy who took our order was extremely unenthusiastic. Almost like he was ashamed to be serving us. When the food arrived, it was obvious why. This place has no standards at all. The sausage biscuit sandwich I ordered was clearly some kind of pre-cooked product that was thrown in a microwave for way too long. Totally nuked and basically inedible. The espresso I was served was far and away the worst I've ever had. Whoever owns this place clearly has no idea how to keep the business successful. Their tacky, knock-off knick-knacks and horrendous food will not keep the lights on much longer. Or so one would hope. Stay far, far away.

VIA (AAA's travel magazine) recently published an article about the rebirth of main streets in small town America. They singled out the faux-Western facade in Troutdale and raved about the General Store. Then before I visited, I read the Yelp reviews and the picture was less rosy. Score one for Yelp. While I can be a fan of cutesy stores, Americana and yes, Disneyland, this place didn't really satisfy me the way I hoped it would. The menu consists of your basic burgers and sandwiches. They serve eight flavors of Cascade Glacier Ice Cream (which, imho, falls below Tillamook and Umpqua) and Longbottom Coffee. I'm not a fan of Hillsboro's finest beans. The store is sweet and nostalgic, but after purchasing a few items, we decided to venture forth and seek out a more authentic local experience.
