I have been here a few times now, always giving it another shot because for some reason, I want to like it better, probably because it's very cute inside. However, a fun, bright interior can only take you so far. Eventually, stuff like food and service start to overshadow how cute the place looks. The good: they have a nice kids menu that is reasonably priced and the portions are great for the little ones. My kids ate every bite, which is rare. I ordered the special asparagus omelet and was underwhelmed. It's not that it was bad, just that it's generic and nothing special other than it was expensive. Their food is completely unmemorable across the board. Also, $4.50 for a side of bacon or sausage? Are you effing kidding me? I didn't get that obviously. I wish they offered a side meat with their dishes, but apparently only with the kids' meals. Anyway, I got the "seasoned" home potatoes that came with my omelet. Basically, they served me diced roasted potatoes with zero seasoning. These puppies were the blandest I have ever had the misfortune of being served. Sure, I salted them, I peppered them, but the damage was done. I didn't touch them after a few bites of utter disappointment because nothing I did could save them. They really ought to update their menu description to "flavorless home potatoes" just to be fair to their patrons. The service is always a little odd. Our waitress was very nice, if not a tad slow. I have had their lunches on previous visits and always found their grilled sandwiches extremely greasy, to the point where I could not eat them. This is my final visit here.

Great coffee and excellent personalized, friendly service. Yummy comfort food as well. And, WIFI. Can't go wrong at this place for Talent.

Food was mediocre. They used to be excellent. The staff is nice. They served us coffee but never once came back to offer a refill. After bringing our breakfast, they did not ask how things were. Waitress was spread too thin and unavailable for us. Later in the same day, hubby and I both feeling ill. I wonder if their restaurant is keeping things sanitary. We each ordered different things but both have upset stomachs. I love Talent and like to support local business but this was a disappointment.

The Talent Cafe ruined my life. I really wanted to like this place. I moved to Southern Oregon just a few months ago and kept driving by it. Besides the fact that it's in a strip mall, it looked quaint and adorable and just like the kind of place I would want to eat breakfast. I should have known the second I walked in. This overly pretentious, rub-it-in-your-face, we-are-a-little-hippie-cafe-ness just wasn't working - it didn't seem genuine. It was like tie-dye you buy at JC Penneys. And the art was just AWFUL. Blindingly bad. Then the food. It is priced like one of those places - on the very high end for breakfast. And I am happy to pay that for something special, something delicious and unique. Even a plain CHEESE OMELET is something like 9 dollars. So we order 10 dollar omelets, waited seemingly nine hundred hours, and got the most boring, bland, not-special-in-any-way breakfast ever. Bland. More bland than I thought possible, like they sucked all the natural flavors out of the food and discarded them. Bland potatoes, with unseasoned eggs, with burnt onions on top, and some crappy ass toast. We didn't even finish. The food was drenched in the flavor of disappointment. We talked about dine-and-dashing for our first time since our long-lost teen years. But we didn't. We begrudgingly handed over way too much money and left. Over the next several hours, I lost my job, dissolved my marriage, killed my dog, and went on a murderous rampage. I then committed suicide by cop. I am dead. Thanks, Talent Cafe.

Yeah...about the Talent Café. First off, the use of space is very inefficient. There's as much waiting space as tables, and I can't see the place ever filling up. Second (and this is almost worse than the food) is the "vibe". YOU CAN'T FAKE COOL. You can't fake ambiance, you can't fake quirky, you can't fake artsy, and you can't fake cozy. The piped in music is loud and impressively bad. The paintings, which cover the walls and are all done by the owner/head waitress, are as loud, bad, and ubiquitous as the music. As far as service goes, meh. It's alright I guess. It sure doesn't help the inspired, fascinatingly bland, uninspired and overpriced food. Yeah. Steer clear of the Talent Café. It WILL ruin your life.

My wife and I recently visited Ashland for a couple days, and the morning we were leaving, gave up on having breakfast at a downtown cafe. No available parking and a long wait for a table because everything is busily crammed with tourists and college students. Instead, we drove northward a few miles to the small community of Talent. Upon walking in the door of this little cafe, we were warmly greeted by the exuberantly friendly owner, instantly being seated at a table. While splitting a large omelette, bolstered with strongly flavorful coffee (just the way I like it), we enjoyed the artist-owner's wonderful paintings adorning the walls, featuring whimsical depictions of full-figured ladies. Despite a few negative online reviews, we found the food to be quite good and ample, plus affordably priced. To see truly spendy cafe menu listings, go to more upscale Ashland! The Talent Cafe is just the sort of casually fun, non-elitist eatery we always seek out during our travels to soak up local flavor. We will definitely return!

I hadn't ordered breakfast here for a long time and forgot how large the servings are. The corned beef hash consisted of lunchmeat-style corned beef, red potatoes with a little bit of bell pepper plus two eggs and toast. The meal and coffee were okay.

Way too expensive for the quality. It'd be one thing if the food, atmosphere, and service matched the price but it doesn't. Literally everything is priced higher than necessary and food is very mediocre. Definitely not worth it. The atmosphere was okay. Nothing special. The phone would ring very loud and if nobody working there answered it, all the guests had to hear the answering machine message go off. Every time. Overheard the server get an order wrong. I ordered an egg over hard and got it back with runny yolk. The server literally sat the plate down and asked if that's what I wanted. I didn't just say over hard either, I said "solid yolk" and he brought it back over medium. So after I said "no that's not what I wanted" he took the plate away and brought back an egg which appeared to be practically scrambled. A mess of an egg. No big deal except one egg and some hash browns was $7.45! So for the price, I was very upset. I was hungry so I let it go. Not worth the stress. Dry toast, came with too-cold of butter which was impossible to spread. Hash browns were your average hash browns. Nothing unique. Not worth more-than-average price. I must add that it appears they attack anyone who adds a negative review so I'm sure they'd have more negative reviews if people weren't scared away from their Yelp page by this fact. Not returning. Glad I came here alone, so I didn't have to pay for two mediocre overpriced meals.

Talent cafe was really good! The waitress was really friendly and did a great job at explaining the dishes and the options. It is really rare to find a waitress who cares about where she works and makes you comfortable. Lots of vegetarian dishes for a lot of food! We got the tasty cream cheese stuffed omelet and the chai latte with lots of foamy milk on the top. The character of the cafe was close and cozy and we were recommended to go to this place by a local university student. Give it a try!

Good food, great coffee..loved the artwork and the fact that the owner painted them all herself and the waiters a total babe! Doesn't get much better than that.

I generally don't write reviews for breakfast places because I'm not a fan of omelets and I can be a pretty picky pancake...partaker (mad alliteration skills right there). Looking at Talent Cafe's menu, I was thrilled to see at least a variety of different pancake options like blueberry, sweet potato, multigrain, buckwheat, and a special granola pancake option. I shared the buckwheat and granola pancakes. Everything else on the menu from eggs to sandwiches looked really good and creative. But like someone else already mentioned, prices are a bit high at around $8-$12. Pancakes alone were $7.50 for two cakes, while the pancake sandwich option comes with 2 pancakes plus one egg and two strips of bacon for $8.50. The pancakes were just alright. I thought they were normal size, not gigantic, and I think they needed a tad more flavor. I would try something else if I come back; although I am curious about the sweet potato pancakes with cream cheese sauce... Now I would normally be ok with average pancakes because at least they are trying to be creative. But I felt that the service really ruined it for me. I just felt that the people just didn't care there and they seemed to ignore us for the most part. We spent a good half hour trying to get the notice of our waitress because she forgot the marionberry syrup for the pancakes and we needed refills of our coffees. I'm generally forgiving about service if they are just really busy, but even if it was so, the lady waitress just seemed indifferent to whatever or whoever was around. Pancakes are supposed to be happy food, but I left feeling disappointed.

Yummy Omelets, organic greens, gluten free choices, open early, did I say yummy?? Confession...I drink the home made Blue Cheese dressing right out of the little side container. Foodie say...it's the only salad dressing I've tasted that's better than mine! I love to sit on the couch for a long lingering breakfast.

Visited there this morning with my wife and college-age son. The food was very good (and enormous portions), the coffee EXCELLENT, the ambiance pleasant, and the service GREAT. Regarding the bad rating given for bad service, we never even had a sniff of bad service; quite the opposite, it was very very friendly. The coffee was refilled frequently, and we were checked on often. The only thing I didn't like that much was the price of the breakfasts, which seem to range from $9-12 on average. A little steep for breakfast, but on the other hand the portions were enormous, like I mentioned. I just don't eat that big of a breakfast. Including beverages and tip, the total was $46. A bit high, but not crazy. I would definitely go back and split an omelet with my wife.

When I was living in Ashland I used to go to this restaurant at least once per week. The food is great and the owner takes pride in what is served. The BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado & tomato) is very tasty and for breakfast you can't beat the eggs benedict. This restaurant gets very busy on the weekends but it's worth the wait and service is still top notch. Give it a try. Please disregard Lyric's rating below - they were either in a different restaurant or simply lying - I have NEVER seen anything with Kraft cheese in this cafe. You get taste, service & more than enough food. Love the mocha too. The owner is very friendly and always greets with a smile. I can't wait to go back!

I wish I could write a review for my husband then a review for me because his mediterranean omelet was the bomb, loved the flavors from the one bite I had, but my cob salad left more to be desired and the portions seemed small. Also I wasn't thrilled with the vinaigrette, I love to make dressings and was hoping it would have some herbs, garlic or something other then vinegar, oil and possibly sea salt, even adding a little honey would have taken away some of the bitterness. The staff was friendly and on the way out I met Katie, a sweet dog who gave me kisses, that was the highlight of the day. Like I said the staff and my husbands omelet were great but I was disappointed with my salad :( The prices were a little high for what I got which was a small salad. To explain the portion I received usually I have to get a take home box for 2/3rds of what was on my plate but with this I ate every bite because it wasn't much, my husbands portions on his plate were much larger then mine but he also ate everything and he usually can't eat about 1/2 of his portions when we go out. I really wanted to give this place a great review because the staff was so great but I am hoping the tip I left will make up for the review! Sorry guys!

  • Tony B.

Sorry, can't go there again. I am willing to overlook quite a bit if there is something great, but another long wait for food that was room temp, a three egg omelette that was flatter than my toast and about the same size...sorry. Three strikes and WE are out. As in, never coming back. Overheard the owner mention to another table that things made to order can't be rushed. While that is somewhat true, PATHETIC food made to order certainly can. At least you could get out the door in a reasonable amount of time that way. Go to the Breadboard even if you have to wait. It's worth it.

Some history: back in the mid sixties, my wife and I would treat our family to a "dinner" at the talent cafe. It was operated by three or four elderly ladies. When we walked on, we were asked "how many dinners would you like?". There was only one entré. Chicken with mashed potatoes, salad and a vegetable that had been canned from the previous growing season. This was followed by a large piece of apple pie alamode! Cost? $1.75/per meal! A great treat.

We used to come to Ashland for the plays; now we come for omelets at the Talent Cafe. Great coffee, great service, great ambience. We even bought one of Denise's paintings to keep some of the cheer with us until our next visit. "Mediocre" must have been at a different cafe.

  • Lyric A.

Mediocre, to say the least. The staff is pretentious and awful. The food is edible, but hardly even stands up to the snootiness of the staff. I had a patty melt, which was a paper thin patty with a slice of Kraft cheese on it... that is not a patty melt, that is a joke.

We just had a girls breakfast with about 7 women. It was so fun. The food was great, the atmosphere is delightful and service was very attentive. The food is hand crafted from whole product. Hard to come by anymore. If you want to rock your world, try the sweet potato pancake. A specialty in my own home, these stand up to the best of them.

I've had about 4 breakfasts there, and they've all been quite good, and I'm pretty picky. Very good coffee as well. Disregard Lyric A.'s review, it's off key. The folks there are very friendly and accomodating, and the food is just fine.

This is a fun place. The eggs and hash browns are great. Only downside is they go cheep on the jam and butter, but everything else is wonderfully delicious and the atmosphere is perfect. Staff is always friendly and welcoming.

Such good and hearty breakfasts here! We love bringing our new friends to town for breakfast at Talent Cafe when we're trying to con them into moving here. It doesn't take long for you to be recognized as a "regular." Everyone's so friendly!

I wrote this review in Jan, 2013 but for some reason it saved as a draft instead of posting... This place is awesome! I don't understand what some peoples' problem with it is... the food is good and the service is wonderful. The waiter guy seemed like a sort of shy person, so maybe some people mistake him for being snobby because he is not bubbling over with giddiness. I liked the laid back friendliness, personally. The portions didn't strike me as enormous either, but I opted for tomato slices instead of potatoes. Maybe they heap the spuds on there, I dunno. The art is totally weird. No joke. It doesn't ruin the experience at all, but it's definitely amusing. I didn't think it was too expensive. My husband and I each got an omelette and some very good coffee for $25. Maybe we're just used to paying that much for breakfast in Portland. Ordinarily I would have gone with 4 stars because the food didn't blow my mind with deliciousness, but was really good. I went with 5 stars instead to help bring their average up because I think they deserve a higher overall rating.

Very nice brunch. I had the Popeye omelette (no problem with substituting feta for the other cheeses). Coffee was good, service was fairly prompt and very cute. Atmosphere was colorful, but could have been brighter. I'd go back.

Although I love the atmosphere, the food & wait staff leave a lot to be desired. The food options look great, the taste was bland. We found the wait staff to be gruff & stiff, not helpful at all, overwhelmed with just a few people. And only 2 pieces of bacon with my $10 bacon & egg breakfast?!!

We love the Talent Cafe. The service is great with a friendly, efficient staff. The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. As for their potato salad, the best in the Valley, and I know my potato salad! The decor is fun, and if you want a relaxed, congenial, tasty meal, the Talent Cafe can't be beat.

I really wanted to like this since I'm planning on moving to talent soon, however, my missus and I were greatly underwhelmed. The art was a distracting eyesore and I could not discern between the house music and what was playing in the kitchen because they were both so loud. Our server was great though. Now for the food. Overpriced to say the least. I got a ham sandwich with potato salad and my dining partner got the deluxe breakfast burrito which she said was pretty bland. My sandwich was good. Good bread and good Black Forest ham. The potato salad though was so alarmingly bad I was in complete disbelief. You are offered a green salad or potato salad on the sandwich part of the menu. I should elaborate on the potato salad. It wasn't that it tasted bad. It was the fact that it had no flavor at all. Hands down, it was the worst potato salad I had ever had the displeasure of eating. When I proclaimed this to my missus she took a bite because she thought I was kidding. She quickly realized that I was not. Potato salad is one of my favorite dishes so I left feeling sad for my tummy and my wallet.

Stopped in here the other day because I am a huge breakfast fan and the reviews seemed promising. I am new to area, as I just moved from Kansas City, and am looking for a breakfast place that serves amazing dishes that I cannot make in my own kitchen (or do not want to attempt to make myself). Atmosphere is lovely and probably the only positive thing I experienced upon my visit. The service was horrible. When my son ordered the B&G with his choice of egg he asked for a hard-boiled egg and our server said, "We can't do that because it's not pre-made and it would take too long." I was so utterly confused by this statement because 1) After being a server for 5 years, you should always try to accommodate your guest within reason and 2) A boiled egg takes what, 8 minutes? and 3) I am envisioning eggs over easy, scrambled, and basted sitting in a warmer for hours on end waiting to be thrown on top of potatoes. Bad image. After we received our food she never came by to check on us and I had to go to the front to ask for the salsa they forgot. Our waters had been empty for awhile and she only stopped to refill them when she was dropping off the check. It took all I had to leave her a 15% tip. The food was not worth the price. I'm not complaining about portion sizes, the size was fine for the price but the quality of the food was not great. My son ordered the B&G (as stated earlier) and his gravy lacked in flavor, richness, and it somehow had a watery taste. Biscuits were hard and the whole thing was so disappointing because biscuits and gravy is ONE of those breakfast items that I do not make myself so it's a treat to order it when we go out. My homestyle fries with eggs, cheese, and salsa was below average. Forgettable and something I could make better. My over medium egg came out very over easy--a mistake a lot of breakfast joints make, why is an over medium egg so difficult? I hate leaving negative reviews because I know, as a business owner, that it's hard to put your product out there to be judged. But hopefully the owner reads this as constructive criticism.

Fabulous breakfast choices served in an artsy, homey, and friendly atmosphere. Enjoyed the Stuffed Hashbrowns & an Omelette Special with good, fresh coffee and frequent re-fills! Many varied menu items -- omelettes, pancakes, breakfast burritos, etc. (plus a lunch menu). Something for all, generous portions, good value. Excellent service, relaxing place to unwind. Highly recommend!

We waited 45 minutes to get our simple breakfast. The food was not good enough for the wait. Even when we were served the waitress (owner) never returned to our table to ask if we were ok, how's the food etc. The lady next to us said, look around no one has food In front of them. We will not be returning.

Small portions large prices. My sis and I have tried this place a few times and each time we ask ourselves, "why did we come back." Decent looking place inside. But overall not a fulfilling dining experience. Definitely not worth what is being charged for the food. You'll leave hungry and be bugged at how much you paid. The owner responds to some of these posts which is admirable, however, seems like she doesn't get the continued theme: small portions large prices. Do something about it! ***READ BELOW OWNERS REMARKS! No wonder customers are always RIGHT and these sites do provide a theme to compass your food choice DOLLAR$... Like it or not, The Talent Cafe needs more talent at the helm. NEVER EVER RETURNING!!!

LOVED the atmosphere and food! My boss and I ate here for the first time for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the place. The music was peaceful and relaxing - which I love when I'm eating. The ambiance was cozy and inviting! The service was attentive (and handsome). We split the most delicious generously portioned Reuben sandwich and super fresh Cobb salad. I'm always grateful when I see real bacon and not bacon bits (gross). Everything was fresh and tasty! If I had to pick one recommendation, it would be the plastic water glasses were old and cloudy. My preference is drinking water from glass or better yet, mason jars. Despite the water glasses ----no doubt, I will be back!!!

Everytime I've been to this cafe the servers have been smiling, food has been wonderful, and the atmosphere is uplifting with all the colors and lovely sunshine flowing in. This last time I had an omelet with home fries and it hit the spot. :) Fun experience!
