Wow, this place is a real gem! Great sandwiches, beautiful space, comfy chairs, free internet, and they make a killer London Fog. I was driving through Springfield on my way to a cafe where I could sit and work, when I realized I'd never tried the new restaurants on Main St. I was a little hesitant about going in here initially, expecting it to be a very small, outdated looking place, possibly with flowery wallpaper and 'antiques'. The light reflecting from the windows made it hard to look in, but I stepped through the door anyway, seeing that it was fairly busy with happy looking customers. Boy was I surprised when I walked in! The cafe is huge, with a nice modern, sage green and red brick decor, and a corner where they sell locally made things like gift cards. Being a big fan of grilled cheeses, I went for the 'adult grilled cheese' on foccaccia with pesto. Delicious! Just the right amount of cheese so it feels very stuffed without all melting out, and plenty of pesto. Nice crunchy toasted ciabatta that was soft on the inside. Yum. To my surprise, they not only knew immediately what a London Fog is, saving me the lengthy explanation that usually puts me off ordering one, but they also make a really good one! With London Fogs it's important that you choose a quality tea that shines through the milk, and just the right amount of vanilla so that it's not overly sweet. Mine was very well balanced! I'm curious to try their breakfast menu some time too. They also have a special kids menu for those who have little ones tagging along. My go-to place in Springfield was previously Aquila and Priscilla's, which was nice, similar in style (bit smaller), but whose food just isn't as good as at the Washburne. I'll definitely be back here to sit and work, and enjoy lunch. I fully admit that I'm a little biased when it comes to Springfield establishments, especially on Main, but I think the Washburne officially put an end to my doubts. Downtown Springfield is 'back in business'!

First time visit..popped in for breakfast. Seeing "cafe" on the sign I was expecting coffee drinks, pastries, bagels, and maybe a breakfast sandwich. Was quite pleased to see a whole list of omelets and scrambles too! I opted for the build your own scramble- ham, spinach, kalamata olives, and feta cheese. Delicious. It also came with potatoes and toast (although I substituted fruit for the potatoes, and my only issue here was the addition of bananas). The toast was crispy and crunchy with a nice amount of softness in the middle, not sure what type of bread it was, but it was good! Would probably visit again if I lived in the area. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good food...

After checking out the menu and seeing all the yummy latte options, I knew I had to come here! I walked in to the lovely smell of fresh coffee and breakfast goodies. I ordered the Reese's mocha and an asiago bagel. The mocha was super delicious, and the bagel was toasted to perfection.

Clean, friendly, fun place. We stopped off I-5 looking for a lunch place and are lucky to have found Washburne. Had a delicious chicken salad wrap and found lots of cards and wood signs to buy in their "Stuff" section.

Nice atmosphere, lunch prices seem fairly steep. To steep for me to try and report, but maybe they are worth it. The salmon and corn chowder for $5.50 was very flavorful and was accompanied by two pieces of bread. I'm happy. Definitely will come back for the soup.

The washburne is an amazing cafe. I highly recommend the lavender creamosa, the yum bar, and the turkey bacon ranch wrap. The cafe is clean and cute with so much distinguished character you feel relaxed and invited no matter where you look. They have a wide variety of food items and drinks on their menu that've all completely satisfied my tastebuds to the max. They cater and host groups as well. Whatever you're looking for in a cafe is right here. It's essentially the cafe that films with quaint cafe's are based off of. The staff is friendly and helpful all while being focused and passionate about the quality of food and drinks they prepare. Don't miss out on the epitome of cafe experience.

I used to love this place because of the atmosphere and the soups, not to mention the wonderful owner! this is a great place to sit and visit people or surf the web. I really don't understand why they can't offer a simple vegetable soup without "flair" and a cheap breakfast wrap! The coffee is expensive, the staff changes frequently (I think they're all students) and I've had a much less expensive meal just around the corner that is exactly what I want. It makes me sad......I wanted to come here more, not less.

I have been here a few times. Not once was I satisfied with my experience. You are better off making your meal at home. And the prices are very high for what you get! The place is nice inside, and spacious. The menu is written in chalk and the meals look like they would taste good. They just taste meh. The portions are small. and when you finish your meal, which happens quickly, you might think to yourself as I did, "That was the most unsatisfying meal of my life." BTW, I have had a few omelettes, a sandwich and my final meal here was an order of biscuits and gravy. The sandwiches could have been made in my kitchen, the omelettes were bland and the biscuits and gravy were from a can. I ASKED SPECIFICALLY IF THE GRAVY WAS MADE IN HOUSE. The cashier said it was! It was Chef-mate gravy served with one SMALL biscuit. The side was home-style potatoes, but what little there were they were cold. It was probably two red boilers, at most. For five bucks! I could get Chef-mate at dairy mart for a buck! Come on Washburne! If you are going to overcharge people for bland food, at least make it large portions of bland! I get it, Springfield is up and coming, yay! We have Planktown and a revitalized Downtown, wheee! But places like this are going to have to step up it game if they want to bring people from neighboring places.

I've lived in Springfield since August 13' the the food quality continues to decline in quality, overall appeal and taste. The owner has yet to make me an espresso coffee that's worth my money, so I tend to leave if she's the only one working the counter. However any of the other young girls working there will make you a decent latte. *The art and overall atmosphere of the cafe is very cozy and nice, but I hope you don't bring your baby to one of the glass covered tables, they use windex instead of vinegar water to clean the eating surfaces.

Note: this review is strictly regarding service and coffee. In town on business two days ago and was looking for a good breakfast. Washburne came up on my phone as a local place so we stopped in for a bite. Had to get coffee in us first so we ordered that while perusing the chalkboard menu. Two lovely women behind the counter greeted us and gave us a bevy of coffee options. Seeing that breakfast options for eggs were only omelettes we both agreed that we were looking for fried eggs so opted out (even though many sounded great). We asked if there was anywhere in town to get a more traditional breakfast expecting the hohum "nowhere's better than here" answer but that's where these ladies really shined!! Each cheerfully offered their local favorites and directions to them. Awesome service with a smile. Great coffee for me and Americano for my buddy. Will definitely return to try one of those breakfast options they have. Thank you ladies for your hospitality!!! Kudos to you.

The food is edible, nothing special. I thought this place was a gem but soon realized the owner is very unhappy or just chooses not to smile or say hello. Portions are quite small and usually look simple enough to come from your own kitchen. Food is over priced as it is without being charged for a little soy in my Americano which I ended up not drinking because it tasted like 20 oz of water with 1 shot of coffee when I paid for 3. Too cool Washburne. Hope it was worth charging for us to never come back.

Very glad to have this place in downtown Springfield. Very nice and spacious inside. We have tried both lunch and breakfast plates and haven't had a bad one yet. The prices are fair and the coffee is good. Sometimes service might seem slow but give them a chance and you won't be disappointed. We will definitely be going again. Give them a try!

The Washburne is really great. Very cozy and well-lit. Food is really great, and Karen and staff go the extra mile to provide more than just a simple food offering that many coffee shops provide. A full sandwich, soup and breakfast menu make this the perfect spot for a nice brunch. I'm a huge coffee snob, so I wouldn't say the coffee is top notch (like Stumptown or Wandering Goat), but it is always fresh and smooth. That said, the whole combination: food, atmosphere, and coffee make for a great place. Plus, and this is a HUGE plus, they are literally the center of transformation for Downtown Springfield.

A place Downtown where I can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee or a light pastry sans fear of a million old antiques falling on my head? I'm in! The Washburne Cafe is bright, open and the perfect place for catching up with friends, studying or even having a work meeting (hint hint). Things to be excited about: -Free wireless. -Good amount of natural light. -Coffee is dirt cheap! If you bring your own cup you can get a twelve ounce coffee for $1.00. All prices are a quarter less when you sport your own coffee transportation device. -For a quarter extra you can get a shot of espresso in your coffee. So bring your own cup and score a shot of early morning or late afternoon inspiration. Yep, I charged right through that Monday wall that usually hits me around 3PM!

An update... I have to admit, I haven't had any more trouble when I've stopped in the Washburne for lunch. It does seem to be better managed than it was back in 2011. Less pushy, anyway. I really love their coconut chicken curry; I could eat that all day. The sandwiches are also really good. So, I'm updating my listing, and thanks for letting me know the management had changed, I wondered what was going on and why it had improved!

It's so wonderful to have this place downtown Springfield and with free WiFi. Excellent food and service. We had turkey wraps and they were very big and filling. We like that it came with chips and not fries. Excellent coffees. Tea was a bit weak and bland, but I prefer a full body tea and refills like coffee. Nice place to go and read or work while you enjoy a great coffee.

Well, we went back after the owner asked us to return. I got the Washburne Bowl and I have to say it tasted better than the cranberry turkey wrap however I was craving just a bit more spice. We sat on the other side of the restaurant, and the noise level was better. I think this place is slowly making some gains... However, please consider doing something about the gnat/fruit flies

Five stars for the atmosphere and the space - I could hang out here all day. Three stars for the breakfast - good selection, fresh ingredients but poorly executed and not very tasty. Espresso drinks were excellent. Will go back on my next trip to Eugene and try lunch.

Tiffany and I took the kid here for a treat, a cup of espresso, and some live jazz music on Fri evening. The coffee is very good...even the decaf. The location has a nice ambiance for hanging out and surprisingly good acoustics. Free wifi too.

I've eaten at the Washburne Cafe nearly every week since it opened over a year ago. I keep coming back for the flavorful coffee, interesting soups, and hearty breakfasts (the Washburne bowl -- red potatoes covered with eggs scrambled with bacon or ham, topped with cheese and green onions, plus a side of salsa -- is my favorite). They also have a great choice of pastries if you enjoy sweet goodies with your coffee (I often buy their oatmeal raisin cookies to take out home for a sweet treat). The service at the Washburne is friendly (I'm always greeted by my first name when I enter and get a "good-bye" when I leave), the atmosphere is a mix of historic Springfield (antiques, old photos) with today's art scene (a wall of artwork by local artists rotated each month). The cafe also participates in Springfield's 2nd Friday Art Walks, often including music by area bands and singers. I've been there often during these "walks," enjoying the music, the wine tasting, and talking with the artists who are having their show opening that night. In my book, the Washburne Cafe has been the best addition to downtown Springfield since the reopening of the Wildish Theatre.

We went to the Washburn Cafe because we had a coupon from Restaurant.com for $15 off. The space is lovely, large, airy, with big windows so it's bright inside. There's a little gift shop inside with cute trinkets, magnets, and decor. The food was fresh and tasty. My companion had the "build your own" scramble with four ingredients and I had the "Farmer" scramble. Both were $8.50 each. The eggs and veggies tasted fresh. The red potatoes it came with were tasty and cooked just right. We don't eat wheat, so we passed on the Ciabbatta toast, but they were ind enough to replace our toast with juicy pear slices. We also ordered the yogurt with fresh fruit, it was also very tasty. The homemade granola in the fruit was really good! I had a regular coffee which was dark and strong and really good! My companion very much enjoyed his Mexican Mocha that had a big pile of whipped cream on top and came drizzled with cocoa syrup and sprinkled with cinnamon. They have a full menu of tasty-looking espresso drinks. Our breakfast total came out to around $30 including the tip, so it was a great deal with the coupon. The staff were friendly and helpful. I recommend this place for anyone that is looking for a tasty, romantic place to have breakfast.

I love the mocha coffee, great service. great Art on the walls and the food inst bad at all either. Wish she had a event planner for groups and more art shows, might bring more people in. Jazz nights, local groups, longer hours would be cool, just cause your Coffee is the best in Springfield!

We tried this cafe again while we were in the area. The food (pizza sandwich - one of today's specials) was great, and the coffee was great. The hubz had a smoothie and a cookie, and said both were really good. The staff was friendly and helpful although didn't seem to know the menu very well. The person that I now realize is the owner is still not very friendly and we don't really understand the attitude, but at least the rest has improved.

Getting me into Downtown Springfield is hard. Just saying the words Downtown Springfield fills my mind with strip clubs, hookers and tweekers. My GF called me up and wanted to have lunch at Washburne Cafe, after much debate, I was trying to get her to go to anywhere else, I caved in and said ok. I am sure you can image my surprise when I pulled up to a perfectly adorable little cafe on main street. Even better there was no tweekers, hookers or strippers in sight! This little cafe is my grandma's house. Adorned with old oak tables, mismatching chairs, trinkets and antiques. The sandwiches were good! The coffee as cheap and hot! And as mentioned the amount of natural light makes this Cafe open, airy and all together have a very positive feeling. But unlike my grandma's house the staff was friendly (this is because my gma doesn't have staff). It's places like this that make me make me happy!

"I aged thirty years when I stepped through the doorway" All the 'grandma' references above are well-placed. This is the place that your grandma and all her friends love and can't stop talking about. It looks and feels... elderly. Not that there's anything wrong with that. If you're looking for a hipster coffee place, the Washburne is definitely not it. But they do have good coffee and decent food, and it's a very convenient location right downtown on Main in Springfield. As far as the food (which is the primary rating criteria anyway, not whether I fit the target demographic)... I've been there a couple times and main gripe I have is that both salads I've ordered have been completely saturated with dressing. Like coleslaw-esque. They don't taste bad, but I prefer to spread my daily allowance of 3000 calories out over more than one dish...

Have been curious about Washburne Cafe since I noticed their sign go up a few weeks ago. Finally made it in today - this place is a real treat! The atmosphere is open, airy & sophisticated, but also welcoming and friendly, with comfy seating & nice touches like glowing original wood floors and casual little vases of fresh flowers on the tables. Service limited to breakfast & lunch w/a tempting selection of "snack" pastries and a nice array of coffees, teas, and Italian sodas. Small but interesting lunch menu has a good selection of paninis & sandwiches priced between $5.95 and $6.95. Rotating daily selection of "made from scratch" soups at $2.95 for a cup and $3.95 for a bowl - heck of a deal. Tried their mushroom soup today and would venture to say it was hands down the best I've ever had (take that Marche!). I'll be back very soon to try their lobster bisque. Can also vouch for their blueberry scones - fresh baked & tender - with plenty of berries. Located on Main St, just down from Econo Sales, with free on street parking and a few extra reserved spaces around the corner. Good value, good food, pleasant service & ambiance, the Washburne is a breath of fresh air.

Great little place! I was in town on business and happened upon the Washburne Cafe on my way out of town Sunday morning. Great breakfast and the price was right. I had a meat scramble and added kalamata olives. Great coffee too. The service was excellent! A friendly, beautiful, smiling young woman named Kelly took my order. Having never been there before, she happily helped me through the ordering process and made great suggestions. I will be back next time i'm in Springfield.

Love this place. Not what you would expect in downtown Springfield. Espresso is excellent, and the food is good too. I always encounter smiling faces when I go in there. Sunday morning mimosas? Yes please! Definitely not the usual crowded coffee shop with lingering weirdos. Go check it out.

My husband and I were driving along Main Street in Springfield when we decided that we should try someplace new to eat. We decided on The Washburn Cafe. It was a great choice! The atmosphere is quaint and it is set up so that there is plenty of space. You don't have people sitting right on top of each other. We both really enjoyed our lunch, (I had a turkey bacon ranch wrap and my husband had a turkey and cheese panini) and can't wait to go back for breakfast and try that too! I have already recommended it to my friends and co-workers. The food, prices, and service were excellent! And after reading another review that mentioned that they knew what a London Fog was - I am even more impressed!! I stopped ordering those a long time ago! This place is a definite must try!! You won't regret it!

I'm a fan...the decor is probably best described as "classic" rather than hip or trendy, but my staple drink (a nonfat vanilla latte) has never been cheaper ($2.75), and it tastes great. On top of that, there is free WiFi and lots of table space....definitely will be coming back.

The Washburne Café is the perfect place to escape from the everyday coffee shops of Eugene. The baristas are always helpful, the food never disappoints, and the coffee is always great. After moving to Eugene from Arizona I was very surprised at the lack of coffee shops that were set up to accommodate a studying student (wifi, tables big enough to have a few books open, and good coffee to keep you going). Roma was one of the few coffee shops that met these requirements but is pretty crowded and until recently didn't have wifi. The Washburne is a one minute walk from the Springfield bus station, a free ride for all students, and has the perfect environment to plug in some headphones, crack open some books, and get to learning. I recommend this place for everything from lunch dates to a quick pick me up Mexican mocha. The only real drawback is that it does get petty busy around lunch time and therefore gets pretty loud so if your trying to work remember your headphones.

A hidden gem right on Main Street.. even my snobby Eugene friends drive over to my town to taste this delicious food! You can't go wrong here.

Love the variety of specials and soups everyday! It's the perfect place to meet someone for coffee or lunch, be it business or pleasure!

Great place to relax and work in the morning. As advertised the cafe had ample space and seating.

My wife went a few weeks ago and said we both needed to go. We went for lunch today. Awesome paninis and the Sumatran coffee from Cascade Estates was awesome (I'm a coffee snob). Great place in the historic Washburne District of Springfield.

Nice open local coffee shop with many food and drink options. All competitively priced: 1.75-4.50 drinks, 5.00-7.00 food. Free wifi with purchase. Pay with cash to help the local business, especially under 5.00.

Best Arnold Palmers in Oregon and the service is great! Fantastic ambiance too! One of my favorite places.
