Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Excellent food. I eat at there at least twice a month, for lunch. The portions are bountiful, served hot, very appetizingly arrayed on the plate, and not overpriced. Staff is friendly and attentive. I recommend the Enchiladas Rancheras (with the fried eggs on top!), and a large pitcher of Dos XX, served with a lime. The entire building, including the restrooms is immaculate. I never hesitate to recommend this place.

The best Mexican food restaurant in the area. The service, and food were great. The place was clean and reasonably priced. All of their staff were friendly and happy. I liked both of their salsas. I can't wait for lunchtime to eat the leftovers. I will go there again.
(5)Jessica M.
The food was so delicious! This is the real deal Mexican food, not some Americanized version! I loved the inside of the place, cute and cozy! The service was great and the staff was very friendly and attentive. The chips and salsa were so addicting and the home made tortillas were to die for! I ordered the carnitas de pollo I attempted to eat all of it because it was so yummy but the portion was fairly large. I will most definitely be coming back soon to try more of their menu!!
(5)Windy S.
Maybe I didn't order the "right" thing here. Had the steak fajitas, the steak was well done (maybe it sat on the sizzling plate too long?) and I didn't like the seasoning. The pinto beans and salsa were good. Service was friendly. Everything else was just average.
(2)Judy A.
This is our new "best Mexican" restaurant in town! The service was stellar, and the food was excellent. It definitely was worth the drive from Eugene. Try it and you won't be disappointed.
(5)Jenny S.
Nothing to complain about. Not too long of a wait, good margaritas, good food, Good prices. The chips come with salsa and a tasty warm bean/ pico dip if I remember correctly. The menu is huge so there is something for everyone.
(5)Claire V.
American Mexican food isn't my thing; it's hard to find anything good in Oregon. Yet I was pleasantly surprised by Ranchito Grill! The service was outstanding, very friendly and attentive, truly remarkable. The homemade tortillas are soft, thick, chewy and fragrant, they were my favorite part of the meal. The nachos were very good too, Ranchito Grill really knows how to stack the cheese on these chips, wow! I especially recommend the beef nachos. The fajitas were good, nothing extraordinary. I always find myself wishing I could get the fajita beef medium rare, but that just doesn't seem to exist. My husband's platter was enormous (see photo), the largest I've ever seen, packed with beans, rice, cheese, and whatever else he ordered. My only, minor, complaint is that my small side plate arrived caked with sticky pink stuff, top and bottom. No idea what happened there. Margarita explosion in the dishwasher? Perhaps it was a fluke. The food certainly looked and tasted great. I'm still not big on American Mexican, but next time my husband insists on going to one, it will definitely be Ranchito Grill. I definitely recommend it as the best Mexican in town (except Carmelita Spats obviously, but that's a whole nother category). Thank you, Ranchito Grill, for an exceptionally friendly dining service, and those amazing tortillas!

I've been going to this place since I was a kid. That was when it was called "Los Campiones." For a while, it was turned into some lame American grill thing, and I was heart broken. Much to my happiness, it didn't last very long under that, and within about a year it became Ranchito Grill. Thus returned the amazing food, the huge portions (I always get the 3 combination, good for now, and for lunch the next day), Cadillac Margaritas (my mother favorite), and their Santa Fe Magaritas (my favorite). The food is delicious and the cooks never skimp on the portions (the plates can be as big as your head). This is real Mexican food too, it even pleases my brother whose lived in LA for almost 8 years. This place has become the go to restaurant for a family get-together. It's perfect for that, with the big tables and the accommodating staff. Somehow they manage to wait on a table of at least 15 people. Really impressive. If you become a regular, the staff makes a point of remembering your name. The waiter (also manager, I think) Ruben is such a sweet guy. He knows practically everyone in my family, he'll ask after them, even goes so far as to remember the dishes we prefer. Now that is awesome customer service right there. I recommend the hell out of this place.
(5)Robin K.
I've eaten here three times in one week before, it's that good. The food is amazing, drinks are tastey and the service is just as wonderful. We love the hand made tortillas. The staff are all welcoming and it's always a joy to be here. One of the first places I ate when I moved to the area, feels like home.
(5)N S.
Only Mexican place in the area that has real Mexican food.. Decent prices on both food and drink. Always have great service here
(5)Jen R.
Great local Mexican place! Food is always hot with large portions and tasty. Service is friendly, but not always fast. Prices are reasonable.

Only three stars because on a Wednesday night they don't have a full staff; the waiter is the bartender (couldn't mix up anything complicated) --and probably the cook, too. We received the obligatory chips-n-salsa with only partially filled bowls of salsa. There were 5 at our table and we had to send for refills 4 times asking them to put more than a tablespoon's worth of salsa in the dish. :-( My meal arrived on a GIANT 15-inch plate (the table was almost too small for my plate!!) My 7 prawns were almost lost in the mole sauce --or was it soup? --with accompanying rice and refried beans that more closely resembled gooey sauce. Wishing cooks would realize that giant plates aren't necessary and equalizing portions is okay. The dish would have benefited from added vegetables. Slightly overpriced. Hand made flour tortillas were good. The place appears to host banquets and has a full bar but is not busy enough some nights to justify being open. They would benefit from more PR.
(3)Nyles W.
I really like the ranchito bowl. Service is not bad. Nothing really spectacular but fair priced
(4)Christopher S.
El Ranchito Grill is great for American style Mexican Family Style food. Most combo plates are less than $10, and are huge. The beans are fantastic, rice is standard - totally fine. Usually get a hard shell taco and an enchilada - covered in cheese and sauce and always blazing hot. Their plain nachos are awesome, and their rocks margaritas are good and not too pricey (I believe around $5) For some reason, they bring you an absurd amount of salsa for your chips, but will gladly bring you more. I went for my 39th Birthday, they slapped a huge sombrero on my head, sang a song, and gave me a shot of something sweet and disgusting. A great time!

This place was totally unimpressive. My husband and I stopped in for a bite during lunch. My husband wanted shrimp tacos....what Mexican restaurant doesn't serve shrimp tacos?! This one! So he ordered a chimichanga and I ordered 2 tacos from the lunch menu. Both were a small part of the mass of boring, watery beans and instant rice that came on the giant plates. My taco shells were soggy from the pooled up juices, and all it had on it was the overly salty meat and some shredded iceberg lettuce. No salsa? My husband's chimichanga was equally boring and flavorless. The wait staff was as impressive as the food was. She asked if we would like some more chips, and never brought them. When she brought our meal, we asked for some more water. She came out and wiped tables and seated new patrons before remembering to fill our water glasses. We were one of maybe 8 occupied tables and there were 3 wait staff on the floor. Needless to say we will not be going back again!

This is by far one of the best places in the Eugene/ Springfield area to get a really good Mexican dish. They have home made tortilla's that come piping hot with your meal, and let me tell you they are so good!!! The service here is very attentive and very friendly. Everything I have had here is amazing! It's hard for me to go any where else in town when I'm craving this type of food. The prices are about what you are going to pay any where else and I think it's pretty well worth it.
(5)Jeremy W.
Get the steak tampiquena. Simply amazing! I had it today and it has to be by far one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. This place has the freshest Family Style Mexican food in Lane County. The size of the plates of food are also great. I love the homemade tortillas and everything I have ever had here is amazing. The service here is second to none when it comes to Family Style Mexican restaurants. A side note they are not open on Mondays, so you only have 6 days to get your Ranchito Grill fix. I want to get here to try out some of the lunch specials soon.
(5)Nichole O.
Great Mexican food!!! Very nice waitresses. Always had water in my glass. Home made corn tortillas. Along with chips and salsa you get a salsa with beans that is really good! This place is a hidden gem. Would highly recommend.
(4)Amy L.
I love this place. Great service. Great food and margaritas. Chips n Salsa is amazing. Unlimited refills. Great combination plates. Generous on portions. I once just let them know the shredded beef was very salty, and i love salt. Didn't expect anything and they gave us a free dinner. They are consistent and welcoming. A great place to eat.
(5)Steve B.
Very pleasant staff, our waiter was attentive but not intrusive. Salsa was tasty with the right kick of spice. The main courses were delicious as I had the Pollo Asada burrito and my wife had a combination plate of tacos, enchilada and chimichanga. We finished it up with deep fried ice cream which was also delicious. We will definitely be retuning and soon. 10/10!
(5)Richard M.
I've changed my opinion due to the raw price of the dishes and the menu's overall inconsistency. Sure, the steak is always good, and the chile verde is tops, but the beans and rice are average, and if you want to move around the menu, you are going to run into many average dishes that still cost over $10 a piece. The wait staff is also a bit too friendly for my liking. What I mean is, I have something against wait staff that is a little too present, pushing drinks, etc. I feel that wait staff is mostly to be seen and not heard, and this place is just a little bit over that line; it's not extreme, but still slightly annoying. If I wanted to go to a Rodeo steak house and have people pour drinks down me, I would. If you're like me and want to be left alone on your potential revisits, don't be too generous with your tipping.

Did you happen to notice the clouds parting and streams of light descending whilst heavenly hosts sang "HALLELUJAH?" That's what happened when I took my first bite of Ranchita grill's chili verde enchilada! Tender and succulent chunks of pork bathing in HOMEMADE chili verde sauce made me weak in the knees! Finally, a REAL verde sauce instead of canned crap you'd never know contained tomatillos and chilis! Even the re fried beans tasted fresh and not just a glop of regurgitated mush that looks like something the dog hacked up. Go to this place. You'll be singing the hallelujah chorus too. Just don't freak out over the streams of light -we're not used to much sunlight here in Oregon.
(4)Andrew M.
This place was very good all the tortillas are home made and you can really tell. I had the chile verde with corn tortillas and they were some of the best I ever had. I have and will continue recommending this place to everyone. Bien provecho!
(5)Blake O.
Love this place! Service is excellent and the food is the best Mexican in town. Dine-in atmosphere is great, and whenever we order takeout, the food is packed carefully. Definitely our go-to place for top notch food and service!
(5)Calista H.
It's really hard to find good Mexican food in this area. Slim pickings to say the least, however I recently tried this place and was pleasantly surprised. For this area it's pretty good.
(3)K D.
Don't pass this place up because of the building being out dated or the springfield location. The food is really good! Warm tortilla chips and give their mole sauce a try! Friendly customer service and good food every time!
(5)Amy S.
Tried Ranchito Grill for the first time last week. I was impressed. The prices are great and it has a very clean and 'themed' dining room. They have room for groups and a full service bar. The menu has lots of options and the service was fantastic! I ordered the taco salad with picadillo and it was huge! However our beef nachos weren't anything to order again- too much cheese (If there is such a thing). Dont skip dessert- we usually do but decided to order the deep fried ice cream. Dinner for three, including appetizer and dessert was under $40. wow. And one other mention: according to the table flyer, you can eat dinner free (up to $12) on your birthday.

Oh jeeze, I ate here a couple of times and I LOVE the little bean salsa dip they serve with chips. The red salsa is soso. Well I did not know they made fresh tortillas. WOwowowow They are delicious. I ordered Chicken Fajitas - very, very good and a good portion with the best seasoning ever. I highly recommend it. Dude, you have to get some tortillas - carbs but live a little. Deserts are soso. I will try the fried ice cream next. Flan was okay, not my style or flavor. Sopapillas are okay - more of a flour fried chip. get some fresh tortillas....... seriously
(5)Kristin D.
Best Mexican restaurant in Eugene/Springfield! I just love this place. Fast, friendly service and great food! The Carne Asada is off the hook. Two words...Homemade tortillas! Yum!
(5)Jyoti N.
Awesome food! Had chicken taquitoes and chicken tortilla soup. Their hot sauce was actually hot! Most mexican places have this bland stuff they give you with chips and call it hot
(5)Jeff M.
This is one of the top places for lunch. The owners & staff are friendly & efficient. Lunch prices are very reasonable. The chile verde plate with three house-made tortillas is my favorite. Never had a bad meal here.
(5)R T.
Analogous to Chapala, Don Juan's, El Kiosko etc. They share the "go-to" spot with Chapala - Chapala being the go-to in Eug and Ranchito holding title for SPFD for the Sit Down Big Combination Plate w/ salsa style restaurant. Ranchito is probably better than Chapala due to the fresh tortillas they use. The food isn't "wow I need to ride a dinosaur" good, just like all the other similar restaurants. The 4* is to let you know that if you're in Eug/Spfd this is one of the better sit-down restaurant style options. The salsa is good. Not a fan of charging $1+ extra for both sour cream and guacamole. tisk

More like a 3 1/2 stars. We are from SoCal so we are pretty jaded to Mexican restaurants. This had all the Yelpers raving about it. So I had to try it. So walking in it had the feel and look of your average comfortable Mexican restaurant. We were politely greeted and had our table set before we sat....something I never see anymore!!! Our waitress was polite but not overly friendly. Among the 5 of us we ordered the Chile Verde plate, Chicken Mole, Al Pastor Tacos, Carne Asada Tacos, Tortilla Soup and Flautas. Chile Verde was very good! Different from what we are used to but really good. The Mole was too sweet for our tastes. I think we prefer more of a chile flavor and a subtle sweetness. The Al Pastor was okay. Nothing special. The Carne Asada was dry....not good. Tortilla soup was okay but not the best. The Flautas were good. The chips and homemade tortillas were great! The the interesting bean salsa was really good. All in all it was okay. I had semi high hopes with all the rave reviews but I never get my hopes too high. Will I be back? Absolutely. It has a full bar and the service was excellent! Friendly enough for the whole family. I am actually anxious to try other items.
(3)Bruce L.
Just tried this restaurant, close to our home, for the first time last Friday, on the strength of reviews my wife read here. What a discovery! All four of us loved the food, the service and the margaritas, and the atmosphere is great, too. Highly recommended; we'll be back.

It was my birthday, so what a better time to try a new restaurant when the meal is free, right? I went with a group of 7 people. Very friendly staff, and I loved the chips and salsa's they had available, especially the bean salsa. But this was about all I could rave about. I ordered the mix and match. (flauta's and chimichunga) and a margarita. I felt like this meal was priced just right for what you got, but the margarita was pretty over-priced and not even that great. A friend got a taco salad, and it was pathetic. Very small and not appealing to eat- just kind of blah. The others in my party got the super burrito, chorizo, chicken fajtas and chicken mole and were pleased with the taste, but we all agreed that the food was very over-priced. Don't let the giant plates fool you. It's not that you are getting a lot of food, it's just an illusion. The beans are a bit runny, so they spread and you get this little sliver of rice. I had 3 tiny flauta (which were more like taquitos) and a tiny chimichunga that was piled high with lettuce and drizzles with cheese. They really should offer at least a small portion of guac/sour cream because those flautas are very dry and lacking in flavor. But if you want sour cream and guac it would cost you almost $5 (I think the sour cream was $1.25 and a side of guac was $3.25) I'm seeing all these comments on here about how great the food is,and really think you guys should look around more. I am hispanic and have eaten a fair share of Mexican food, and this place is really nothing to write home about. If you want to try some EXCELLENT mexican food go to Torero's on Main. I have gone there so many times and have never been disappointed there, and you won't be either. Instead of going to El Ranchito, you will only want to go to Torero's.
(2)Kevin C.
Good food. But wasn't impress that the menu was wrong. Certain dishes were improperly labeled. So if you know what authentic dishes are you might be disappointed. Also found it rude when the waitress came back and questioned my girlfriend why she didn't finish her meal. She also rolled her eyes when asked for more salsa.
(4)Chloe H.
It's not often that you find a place, with authentic food, large portions, and high quality. I had the Super Burrito, and not only was it HUGE, but it was perfectly spiced and the meat was cooked wonderfully. Many places have good food, but Ranchito Grill not only had great service, but homemade tortillas too delicious to put into words. Also they have a free dinner on your birthday up to 12 dollars! It's nice to see a local place with such great food, and great service.
(4)Jody G.
Not only is the food awesome here, but so is the service. Check out the smiling faces english speaking and not. Everything is good from the guacamole to the bean dip they serve for free at your table. The tortillas are so fresh, well yeah we now eat there every week. Right next to Sherwin Williams and well worth the drive from wherever you are.
(5)Tkeisha W.
We had a great time at dinner tonight. The tortilla soup was awesome and service was friendly and fast. My husband really liked his food as well. Highly recommend the flan!
(4)Jason W.
We eat out a lot. It's tough to find a Mexican restaurant that we can all enjoy. We heard this place was good by reviews so went for it. Service was pleasant and helpful. Food was really really good. Space was clean and pleasant for our child. It's kid friendly. And cherry on top the booths use memory foam that are super cushy on the buns. Worth it. Would recommend it to anyone. Oh, dessert was home made and AMAZING!!
(5)Lori D.
The service is good, the prices are high for the quality of food and some menu items are decent. My husband got the Carne asada, it was well cooked, plenty of it as well. My food, not so good. Chimichanga was like a fried frozen burrito- in fact I have made better at home from frozen. The cheese enchilada had cheese that was not melted in the center. The tortilla was over cooked on the taco- it was brown when they served it. I really wanted this place to live up to the previous reviews, but it fell quite short. Not worth going back to.
(2)Bill D.
This is my favorite sit down somewhat formal Mexican food place in the Eugene/Springfield rea. Staff is always friendly and offer quick service and place has always been clean. Check out their specials and look for coupons in the Register Guard.
(5)Lauren T.
Absolutely love this place! One of our favorites! Their tortilla chips always come out warm, and with two kinds of salsa - a regular red salsa and a pinto bean salsa. Both are so good! And the food is amazing!!! Great portions and lots of cheese - just the way I like it! Their shredded beef is excellent; my husband and I both love the flavor. The staff is always friendly, as is the owner.
(5)Trish H.
Mmmmmm. Yummy every time I go! Service is excellent. Margaritas are excellent. People are friendly! Good food, good drinks, good price. What more could you want!
(5)Josh W.
Wellllll, here it goes!! My first 5 star review of a Mexican joint in the Eugene/Springfield area. The other day my wife and I decided to go have some lunch at Ranchito Grill. They had a great lunch special for $7, so that's what I went with. I ordered an Enchilada Suiza (my go to Mexican dish) along with rice and beans. It was quite the generous offering for $7. The spices that they use to cook the chicken in is what gives this a less Americanized taste in my opinion. Anyone can throw some chicken in a crock pot with broth and cumen, but it takes a few more spices to actually get that kick I'm always looking for. The drink special was a Long Island Ice Tea for $6, which is a good deal for a Long Island. VERY GOOD!!! Strong, but not pure liquor, mixed well and very good. $13 for the plate of food and drink was money well spent. Before the food was served (which came out in less than 10 Minutes), they set us up with some really good salsa and beans for our tortilla chips. Not re-fried beans, it appeared to be a navy bean (however I seriously doubt it since I hate navy beans), and it was really good with the chips. Beans, Salsa, and fresh chips is my favorite way to start off any Mexican meal. I never would've expected to find a great Mexican place off Mohawk....but we did!! We'll be back the next time we have a craving for some good Mexican.
(5)Heather J.
My family and I all ways get really great service. Seated right away. The chip were fresh and warm from the oven! Great food
(4)Rebecca S.
Loved the food here...wish it was closer. Fast lunch service and fair prices. A great combination. I got a cheese enchilada and a beef taco. Very tasty!
(4)Joey H.
If I got again I most definitely wont order a huge plate of Nacho's again. It came to the table and was totally disappointing. Not nearly enough chips, barely any meat, and way too much cheese. With that said I do recommend the combo plates, they come with a generous portion of beans and rice and the plates are huge. the 3 item combo can definitely be shared between 2 people. Service was pretty decent, nothing good, nothing bad. I will say they are skimpy again with the chips when they deliver a basket with salsa. For a large group a half filled basket goes pretty quick.
(3)Sydney B.
I really don't like this place we've tried it about 5 or 6 times and they are very rude you have to ask constantly for drink and chip refills then they act like your bothering them. I think the food is ok but to me it's like packaged Costco food. Not loving this place.
(1)Tabitha M.
The beans they serve with the chips and salsa are amazing! Waiter remembers is and our drink orders and I wouldn't consider us regulars by any means. Good prices, good food, good service, good drinks.
(5)Daryl H.
First Time There and was AWESOME!!!! We will differently be going back, you leave there full. Food was GREAT and service was Good
(5)Scott J.
Let me start with this- I am a big fan of flavor! Not a fan of hot! With that being said, I love this place! The pork tamales are large (in my opinion) and well done. Not to moist and a great mix of corn and shredded pork. The chili relleno are a perfect blend of egg, cheese, and chili! They have a pinto bean salsa, yes pinto bean, that is amazing in a not hot way! I have been there several time and the service has always been pleasant. BDays are free!!!
(5)James C.
The best thing about Ranchito Grill is the homemade corn tortillas and the live music. I haven't checked out the music yet, but they have bando and other bands from out of town on Saturday nights. It sounds like a lot more fun than drinking bitter cough-syrup-like beer and watching a guy with dreadlocks try and play banjo. The food comes on huge plates that are burning hot, and it wasn't half bad. I had the chicken, which was a thin piece of chicken breast? cooked until it was almost jerky-like. It was charred and pretty tasty. The rice and beans and the guacamole and chips were all pretty great. The shrimp and vegetable fajita-like dish was pretty good tasting but a little heavy. It was pretty buttery if you like it that way. I thought the shrimp themselves were only okay: something a little funky to me, but I felt fine afterward. The service was excellent, which is often not the case in Eugene. But the corn tortillas were the best! They came in a little steamer that sits on the table (which I had serious trouble opening when I wanted another one) and stay warm and moist. They make a great compliment to all of the food on the menu. Next, I am going to check out the music. These people are working hard and hosting out of town bands for people who like to dance: It is Mexican music so try the nice dancing like you saw your mom and dad do (hopefully) rather than the whirling dervish kind. So, check it out; there are far worst ways to spend a Saturday night in Eugene.

I happened to try this restaurant after learning that it was under new ownership. I was highly impressed. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to authentic Mexican food and this was at a much higher level than most. I ordered the "Tacos al Pastor" on the dinner menu and they were, hands down, the best that I have every eaten. And I have eaten this dish at a multitude of establishments, both in the USA and Mexico. The dish came with 3 pork tacos, beans & rice. The tortillas were lightly grilled and filled with the succulent blend of marinated roast pork. Others at my table were equally impressed with their dishes. My hat is off to the new owners and cook(s). I can;t wait to come here again.
