Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

One of the better mexican restaurants in the gateway area. Always pretty good service. Decent chips and salsa. Nice drink menu. The thing is....nothing blows me away but it is pretty good. My wife always gets the chicken chalupa and always leaves happy. I stick with the combo plates. About 10 bucks a meal.

I give it a two only because the food just sucks. No spices, no flavor, cheap ingredients. Portions are huge but its very bland. If you like taco bell americanized food then this may be to your liking. However, the staff has always been fantastic the handful of times my family has gone there. Very friendly and always made sure customers were taken care of.

I liked their food. They're a bit pricey but the portions are massive. I didn't care for the ground beef, I thought it was strange flavored and pasty. Service was great, people are friendly.

Was on our way to look for a place to eat after a long business meeting that lasted way after lunch. Spotted this place on our way to Spfd Mohawk area for the restaurant hunt & decided, "what the heck, let's try this place." No other cars on the parking lot. Not such a good sign but we were in that hour between lunch & dinner, so we went in anyway. Woman who neither smiled nor greeted us simply signaled us with a nod of the head to follow her to a table. Looked at the menu & was a little disappointed that we just missed their lunch special prices by 5 minutes. Drats. We still decided to stay. My partner ordered a burrito Colorado, I ordered a small plate special with crispy taco and an enchilada. $1 additional charge to order this type of meat. THE FOOD: Chips were cold & greasy--some were crispy, some were chewy. Strike 1. The shredded beef filling was really bad. It was quite simply, boiled meat with no spices or flavor, other than its being meat. Strike 2. My partner's Colorado burrito had more flavor, so points for them. THE SERVICE: What service? She sat us down. She brought us the food. She never came back except to give us the check. Strike 3. THE VERDICT: I'd skip this place if you can help it.

Great food and chips, but the need some better pico de gallo or queso for the chips. The need to hire a busser and not make the wait-staff do it all. Our waitress was all alone on a Saturday early evening and she needed help. The food portions are ample and priced about right; but the charge for soda refills... come on, really?

Best Mexican food in Springfield/Eugene hands down!!!! If you like authentic come here!!!! If you like American Mexican food stick to fast food!!! Please disregard all other pretentious Eugenians who claimed to have an exquisite pallet, they no not what they do!! Try Jose's Favorite, then leave comments!!! Thanks!!!

I had lunch there and received a terrible burrito filled with water and fat.

I absolutely love this place!! Food and drinks are amazing and the price for as much as you get is definitely worth it! Great place to go on a date or with friends, I live close enough I even get it to go:) I agree with others who have said the salsa is awesome, I can't stop eating it even when my mouth is burning. I love that they will keep refilling your salsa and chips until you have your food and when you get food to go they give you plenty of both to take home! Everything I have had from their is fantastic and I crave their food all the time! I've tried several different drinks as well and they aren't watered down like some places. Hands down my favorite Mexican Restaurant in town!

I'm writing another review... I have...HAD...been going to this restaurant since they opened. It had been good. They had been accommodating. They aren't anymore. We have since found other places to go...

My son and I stopped there a few nights ago. The chips were fresh and crisp, tho not warm and the salsa was wonderful! The girls working there were very friendly and always smiling. I had a number four which was rather tasteless, it was supposed to be shredded beef .. but actually looked a bit pale for beef. The tamale was mostly corn meal with very little meat and very dry and bland tasting. We ordered soft drinks, which came full to the top with ice. We were not given water and never asked if we wanted more to drink. The prices were way too high for what we received. I live with in a half of a mile, but won't go back.

The chips were stale, not fresh at all. Not even warm! The waiter started vacuuming while we were waiting for our food. The food wasn't bad. It just wasn't great. I had asked if I could have the shrimp with butter and garlic instead of the hot sauce and the waiter said, "no substitutions, no butter in the kitchen." So, I got them with no sauce and they were actually ok because they were seasoned. The chard mushrooms and onions that came with the shrimp were really good. Oh, and I couldn't get one flour tortilla and one corn since I like corn and my daughter likes flour, so we got corn (4). I just wanted two different tortillas. Wouldn't that be cheaper than getting 4? So, I got 4 corn and ate 1. Then, when I went to go pay, the waiter/cashier asked if I wanted to put the tip on my card, he could enter it for me. I really can't explain why that was bothersome; I guess I like to keep the tip secret and enter it myself. I guess it's one of those unspoken rules of the tip, the wait person get's to be surprised when they get their tip, just like when my grandmother would send me a birthday card for my birthday and there would be that $5 bill in there every time; not such a surprise, but a gift none the less. Then, to top off this whole experience, when the waiter was running my card through the machine, he kept saying it didn't work. I gave him another card to run and then he told me the machine said it was out of paper. So, no receipt and he ran my cards about 5 times total. So, I had to make a trip to the bank to make sure he didn't deduct my bill 5 times. Luckily, It only charged once and I didn't have to go back to that place. The place was very clean, but go someplace else!!!!

Bland.....Mexican food rarely falls into this category. But bland is the best way to sum up this place. The only thing that was decent was the salsa. I could go into detail but it is not worth the time. Will not be going back.

El Charro moved into what used to be a fast food restaurant, and filled it with mildly cheeky Mexican theme. El Charro serves perhaps worse food than the previous tenants (I don't know which chain was there previously.) The ambiance is cheap, the food quality is cheap, but at least the prices are cheap. You'd enjoy taco bell better for even less money. The place doesn't have it together, and it's not trying to get any better. Just keep driving west down Harlow Road, and take a left on Coburg... you're getting warmer. But you're still getting warmer driving in any direction that is not toward El Charro.

My wife and I went here for dinner based on someone's recommendation, and... I want my $20 back. The "burrito" was a store-bought tortilla with chunks of unidentifiable meat that looked like they had come out of a can, underneath a large handful of shredded lettuce. It was simply the worst food ever and it is plainly obvious that this restaurant is not even making an effort. It is really sad... how can you have a restaurant and not take any pride in the food you serve? If you look in their kitchen, all they probably have is a bunch of cans, a can-opener, and a microwave.

If you like it spicy, this place has awesome salsa! Their salsa has a kick to it probably more than most people can handle (or perhaps it is because each chip I eat is way more salsa than chip) though in my opinion it could really use more cilantro. The rest of the food was pretty good too though slightly better than average for this type of restaurant. Their lunch specials are usually a good buy and then they have a few good deserts like sopapillas (3 bucks). These are not like the ones I am used too however, my step father was Mexican and he taught me that sopapillas were like a flower tortilla cut into large triangles and deep friend so that it made a little pillow, you could bite off one of the corners and pour some honey in there. These were small deep fried tortillas that were flat with strawberry (in syrup) and whipped cream on top. Still pretty good, just not what I was used to.
