Busy Bee Cafe Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Food was adequate. Regular old french toast, scrambled eggs and bacon. Bacon was cooked just about right for me. People were friendly from the minute we stepped in the door to the time we stepped out of it. Even the menu Was friendly with "good morning" "good afternoon" and "good evening" marking the food sections. Busy is accurate. The decor is definitely busy and so was sunday morning. I was thinking "yeah, I like it here. I'm going to come back for a reuban and sweet potato fries". This is where they lost me: Time to pay. Went to the counter and handed over my bill and credit card. I knew the total amount. The amount she announced before going to the swipe was incorrect. I questioned it. She said its because of the charge and motioned to a small print paragraph posted on the counter. 50 cents to use a card. Would have been nice for her to suggest using cash or point to the sign before all the confusion (on my part) set in. She didn't offer to change the payment method after sensing my dissatisfaction. I was already committed so I got hussled out of 50 cents. Petty as it may be, I felt violated. As a new customer, I was unaware of their rules. The sign was too small and in such a cluttered place. Verbal heads up, please. I'd be glad to pay cash, but need the Info up front.

Great place for breakfast. It is our go to place for breakfast. Service is good and friendly. Food is your typical cafe food.

Been past this place countless times and decided to try it out. So glad I did. The atmosphere was very homey; the menu choices were plentiful, but not overwhelming (very refreshing). Prices are reasonable and the staff were the most pleasant we've encountered for the longest time! Even though it was our first time there, they made us feel like we were old faithful customers and wanted us to come back again (which we definitely will!). So glad we finally came around and tried this cafe out.

We received excellent service & great food! Staff was personable, and we felt comfortable immediately. Old school diner feel, with plenty of regulars coming in and out. We'll most certainly be back through.

Not to impressed with the food! Overpriced for what it is. They served me frozen sausage patties from Costco. Who does that????

The best, most friendly place in Springfield to get a good breakfast with family love. The owners treat you like kin and add lots of love to everything they do. Good food and great staff!

First time visit couldn't have gone better. After a long day moving we got up early and went to breakfast here. I had the Old Country breakfast and my wife had the biscuits and gravy... Delicious. Absolutely hit the spot with the food and service was even better. There's plenty of personality in everyone we talked with and it wasn't just with us; the entire diner benefitted from the enthusiasm of it's waitstaff. Normally we sport a family of five, and it may be a few minutes to get a seat if that's you, but the wait is made worth it by the staff and, of course, the food.

I recently came back to take my bf to breakfast for his birthday and we both got omelets and they were sooooo good. They also have him and myself free cake which was so sweet. Places normally just give the birthday person cake. The chocolate cake I got was very moist and yummy.

Woke up today and decided I needed to have a Biscuits & Gravy experience. I am probably one of the .01% of the population who has never had biscuits & gravy ever, so today was the day to change that. I Yelped and found several diners on the list. People were loving their food at Busy Bee Cafe so I decided this was the place to finally shatter my Biscuits & Gravy innocence. Little did I know I would make the wrong decision. I loved the ambience. It was a "Back to the Future" (y'know, the movie) flashback. My partner and I were surrounded by silver-haired regulars greeted as they came in by the uber-friendly lady behind the register. This place is packed with such patrons. I actually really liked the feel because it was like being surrounded by grandmas and grandpas everywhere, I didn't mind that. What I did mind was the food quality. The Biscuits & Gravy were just...meh. I mean, I don't have anything to compare it to so this would've been the bar by which I would judge all future biscuits/gravy experiences by. I didn't like it at all. The gravy was flavorless except for a hint of black pepper (it almost tasted...chalky?!?) And, where were the sausage bits? The biscuit bread was nice and fluffy, though--but even that couldn't save the rest of what was on the plate. I ate few forkfuls and decided that was enough for me. Don't know if I'll come back here. Like I said, the ambience was nice, the server was engaging. But in the end, it's the food that would make me come back...and that 'ain't happening anytime soon.

Visited Busy Bee Café for the first time this weekend. Upon entering we were welcomed by the most friendly staff. The Rueben was good but those sweet potato fries were EXCELLENT, all crunchy on the outside. YUM! Definitely a place where the locals hang out and rightly so. Good service and good food.

For me just and "average" breakfast stop. Nothing fancy about this place but sometimes the best food comes from "nothing fancy"! Service was just so-so and check-out at register was slow. I will probably return but wasn't awed by anything here.

We went here today after reading the article in the Register Guard. The decor is crowded kitsch with rips in the upholstered booths. The service was friendly & attentive. I had a chili burger. The homemade chili was ok, but the burger was a frozen & formed patty that split into chunks. The homemade onion rings were awesome. My husband had a patty melt that was greasy & the onions were undercooked. They were out of the sweet potato fries. My coffee cup had a big chip in it. This seems to be a popular spot with the Springfield regulars. We are 62 & I think we were some of the youngest in the diner! We were hoping it would be like our favorite down home diner in No. Calif. & it was disappointing. UPDATE: Next day, my husband who is a former Health Inspector had stomach issues during the night after his meal. I won't be more graphic than that.

I've only been here once. As I walked in, the regulars turned to get a look at me, from their counter stools, reminding me of a cowboy walking into a saloon, in an old western movie. I ordered a liver dish. Yes, I'm a liver lover, lol! And it was done just right. I have no idea what the rest of the food is like, so it would be a gamble to go there again, based on the reviews I see here. However, I think it would be a good gamble. Service may not be the big thing here, based on the reviews I've been reading. I believe if you spoke up to ask for something, it would be taken well if you say it with a smile :/ lol The ambience was rather boring but it's just a quick eats place. If I go there again & order a burger that turns out as good as FINS DINER, I'll raise the star rating!!!

Surrounded by a wonderfully nostalgic decor and a dining room full of die hard regulars, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed a hearty breakfast. Especially considering that it was 5pm I could not have been happier! The service was great and the food came out quickly, piping hot, perfectly seasoned and came at a reasonable price. Also if it's up your alley there is a great antique shop (Glory days) around the corner to stroll through after you enjoy your homecooked meal. Like spending the day with your dear sweet grandma!

This is my favorite restaurant in the area. The food tastes like home cooking, the wait staff bends over backward to help and be friendly, and the atmosphere makes me feel like I am eating at a family member's house. The decor isn't fancy and some of the seats have tears in the upholstery but don't judge a book by it's cover! I like a place that puts their energy and money into the food and service, not the seats and kitsch. If you want home cooking than look no further!

One thing that irks me about this area is the seriously lack of diners. I know, we're a crunchy region, but come on--diners are the eatery of America, they make this country great. Busy Bee is a top-notch greasy spoon with dizzying kitschy decor. If you fancy yourself a competitive eater, this is the spot for you. My friend and I have a longstanding challenge to "win at breakfast." The challenge is to fully finish the country breakfast, the best and biggest dish on the menu. It's everything you could ever want in a breakfast: eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, giant biscuits, and country gravy. Unfortunately, this breakfast contest has never come to fruition, but I believe anyone who orders this perfect breakfast dish technically "wins at breakfast." There is one slight drawback--coffee is okay. It's a pretty standard cup of joe for a diner, unpretentious and satisfying so maybe it's not so bad after all, maybe I'm just accustomed to highfalutin breakfast. And the lovely waitresses of the Bee are very attentive, especially with the coffee. I guarantee that your coffee cup will never be empty, no matter how busy the Bee is. If you love diners as much as I do, giant breakfasts, and good down home service, you absolutely must come here.

I think these guys are great. Servers are friendly and really seem to care about what they're doing. The food is good old home cooking. Everything I've had has been great. It is the best value in the area. Try them for breakfast or a burger. You'll be happy.

One day long ago, I attended the busy bee cafe. I had only ordered the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were huge and you can tell easily they are made from scratch! Not a bad stop if you want a good biscuits and gravy. You can tell they have a good following of older folks for their morning cup of joe. my wife ordered the omelet, it looked like just your 'run of the mill' 3 eggs, cheese and veggies, nothing made this place stand out. To sum it up, it was a decent stop, but I believe I could find better.

  • Eric L.

Man, this place is dank. Great service, good food, good prices. I had the country fried steak and eggs breakfast and it was amazing. The servers are very attentive-- they came and filled up my coffee 4 times in less than 20 minutes!! If I'm craving a classic greasy breakfast, I'm going here from now on.

  • Nate O.

I had a good time at breakfast here. Huge portions (get a box!) and friendly service in a fun and kitschy atmosphere. Other reviewers have filled in the necessary details, but check out the pictures I posted to see if the style of this place is up your alley.

My favorite breakfast stop! The country gravy is perfectly delicious. Awesome staff, they get busy but it never affects they service they provide. My 6 year old nephew requests Busy Bee by name when he comes to visit, he loves it too!

The Busy Bee Cafe is THE place for Breakfast in this part of Springfield. Usually prompt service, great portions and an ol-timey "greasy spoon" atmosphere including the regular old-timers sitting at the bar-stools at the counter, talking and reading the paper 'n stuff. They all seem to know each other by name there. Busy Bee has removed the boothes on the west-side of the cafe recently which detracts from the kitsch but makes it a little bit better to maneuver while you chow-down. I usually get good service but once in awhile I'll get ignored and it takes forever just to get my bill and then forever to get it paid at the register. It just looks like they are all busy doing things behind the counter. Still, for me, it's worth it for the breakfasts they grill up and serve. One of my favorite places when I visit family in the area.

  • Dan S.

Had a burger. Frozen beef with a thick mayo cover. Mediocre curly fries. My wife had "the worst salad I've ever had." and clam chowder she described as gelatinous. The iced tea was bitter, and a lot of sugar couldn't save it. The pie that others had looked yummy, but the waitress (who never refilled my tea) gave me the check mid meal and I never saw her again. Couldn't get the pie to try it. Maybe it was my age? Everyone else there was over 60 and, my wife noticed this too, they kept staring at us. Weird. We were sorry we ate there. I can't recommend this place.

It reminds me of the little hometown cafe's back in Idaho. Casual servers bring good, generous portions of classic American food. I will return.

Went to try the onion rings and a burger at the urging of a friend... The onion rings were the frozen type and the patty dry and "" Costcoesque" . Not good at all. Slow service but friendly server. Grandma's "single wide" atmosphere and had to endure ogling from the peanut gallery of old guys sitting at the counter drinking watery coffee for seemingly hours on end...smokers out front at a picnic table hovering over a coffee can for an ashtray...need I say more?

  • Tara A.

The worst food I've ever had! Don't go!!

  • Killer S.

The pictures really tell you all you need to know. I haven't actually had a breakfast here but have done lunch/dinner on several occasions. It's always going to fill you up. Burgers are served with a huge pile of curly fries (better to request the steak fries, cut to order fresh by the cook), and dinner entrees come with heaps of salad, bread, etc. I don't think the food is notable in and of itself which is why I give it only three stars. The Busy Bee's a throwback, and the clientele is representative of that. Whenever I'm in there I feel like I'm the youngest in the room... by about 30 years. Not a problem, really, but just odd. The waitresses have always been prompt, helpful, and efficient. I have a couple of friends who love this place and whenever they suggest it, I don't complain. If you're looking for "fat white people food" as one reviewer said, well, it is what you thought it would be.

    (3)
  • Alex R.

Great prices. Big plates. The decor is Coca-Cola Kitsch, the clientele is a mix of all kinds of locals. The owners work here on occasion, which is almost always a bonus in my experience. The wait staff doesn't have much turnover.. if you go a few times, you'll see the same faces. My meal here is usually just the 2 eggs breakfast... 2 eggs any style, a big pile of hashbrowns, and a biscuit (or your choice of bread) for $4.25. You'll leave full, and for cheap. If you like diners, and harbor a secret love for blue plate specials, this is your place.

Since I don't go home for the holidays anymore, I figure the least I could do is eat Fat White People Cuisine at least once in December. Lunchtime found my co-worker craving a greasy spoon, and this place was a short drive away. The service was slow, but they were shorthanded, the place was packed, and the waiter was clearly doing his best. Unexpected bonus: the water tasted good, so I didn't have to order a soft drink. I ordered the meatloaf sandwich special with fries. I was a bit disappointed to find that it wasn't really a sandwich but rather meatloaf atop spongy white bread (think Wonder), covered in Salisbury Steak TV dinner-style gravy. I (wo)manned up and ate the meat, which was bland but good quality. To my surprise, the gravy wasn't too salty. The fries were crisp and not greasy but tasted so freezer-burnt that ketchup couldn't mask the taste. My co-worker had the chicken fried steak breakfast. The biscuit was outstanding and clearly homemade. The hash browns were very good, as were the extremely fresh eggs.. Something was off about the meat and the gravy, though; he left a sizable portion uneaten, and I have never seen this lover of fried food and country gravy leave any kind of meat behind while still hungry. I liked the portion sizes for the cost and that this is the kind of place where the regulars are like family. I suspect that there's something on their menu that I would enjoy, so I will return for breakfast and give it another shot.

best cafe in Eugene/Springfield area. food, service, value-top notch! the decorations inside a little corny, but the food is really good. Their burgers are only second to the Snack Shack. Breakfast is what you would expect. Meat loaf, roast beet, mashed potatoes, fried chicken... all great!

I haven't actually been to the Busy Bee but felt compelled to post a review for a very happy client, my mother. I live on the east coast and it is difficult and expensive to get to Eugene for the holidays, so we usually visit before or after. When I asked my mother if it would be ok if we did the same this year she replied that she actually already has plans for Thanksgiving this year, she was invited to RSVP at the Busy Bee. She told me afterward that it was just really, really good American-style cooking but she was incredibly surprised to be told that her meal was on the house. My mother is disabled and on a very tight budget and this incredibly kind gesture meant a lot to her and to me and my family as well. Thanks so much for keeping our holidays happy, especially in this tough economic time!

A local landmark, the Boyd's took it over from Chuck and Rita several years ago and have improved the offerings. We have eaten here at many times, never had a bad meal. We love the food and the people. They serve diner style comfort food along with a homespun nostalgic atmosphere. The prices are reasonable, the food is good and you get a lot of it. The wait staff is attentive, even the owners pitch in. Last time Vicki had the smothered finger steaks dinner and I had the Busy Bee signature breakfast (pictures included). We've both had them before, would order them again. They don't serve fancy, exotic or ridiculous food, just the kind you would find at your own dinner table. The meatloaf tastes like meatloaf, the omelets are omelets. Try it yourself!

The food is pretty good, the decor is fun, and the prices are decent. The staff could be more friendly, though.

I had a good time at breakfast here. Huge portions (get a box!) and friendly service in a fun and kitschy atmosphere. Other reviewers have filled in the necessary details, but check out the pictures I posted to see if the style of this place is up your alley.
