High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. You must also skip Brunch Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Triple Bacon Burger, and Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's. High sodium intake can be lethal for a high blood pressure candidate. Avoid ordering foods that contain over 1000mg sodium at Applebee's, especially if you're dining alone.

High Cholesterol at Applebee's

Well, steaks and ribs go hand in hand with cholesterol. Being their signature dish, it will be a challenge to find low-calorie, healthy food for those concerned with their cholesterol levels. However, you can always opt for their salads and other light foods to keep the cholesterol in check.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Cholesterol

If you have high cholesterol, then you must avoid eating sandwiches, wraps, and tacos at Applebee's. While the salads and soups sound healthy, you must skip the Fiesta Chopped Salad and Loaded Potato Soup at Applebee's. It is also advised to dodge the Three Cheese Chicken Penne and Chicken Fajita Rollup. Any main meal with over 100mg cholesterol is not idle for someone with high cholesterol. So, skip those items at Applebee's.

Five stars a million times over for server Felecia. She works the new half booths around the bar. If you haven't tried the new seating yet, do it. If you get Felecia consider yourself lucky and tip well. Her candor with customers is so easy and nice, and her attention to detail is great! This trip I had the newer honey pepper chicken and shrimp it was a surprisingly large portion for the $12.99 price. Flavor was good and it came out nice and hot. Very happy with this visit!

Applebee's is a chain and therefore you expect to get the same as you did in any other Applebee's. You do. Plain food and service that is fairly fast and attentive at a moderate price. I only eat at an Applebee's if I am lost or in a hurry. There is much better in town, but you are on Gateway, in a hotel, and don't have the time to experiment Applebee's will feed you OK.

I like eating here because there are plenty of menu items that are under 550 calories and also fit a low carb lifestyle. They will substitute potato with broccoli or squash or something else. It is hard to socialize and stick with a specialized diet in most restaurants because they load most entrees with a lot of carbs and breads. If you decline the crabs, you are left with very small portions. Applebee's is one of the few places that is flexible.

For the type of restaurant Applebees is, you actually get very decent food here at a fair price. And my god are the portions HUGE. You can fill up on a single appetizer. Heck, two people can fill up on some appetizers, like the artichoke spinach dip which is fabulous if a bit on the salty side sometimes because of the added salt on the chips. (I think they fry the chips fresh, in house!) If you're on a diet, Applebees is one of the few restaurants in town that has a special menu with low cal, low fat, low carb dishes that are almost as good as their regular food. I like to get the steak skewers with broccoli and rice, which, while not as rich as the things I'd normally get (for example their magnificent orange chicken bowl), also comes in at about a quarter the calories so you can feel good about what you ate. Applebees is also home to the most sinful cocktails ever, the kind of things full of creamy liquers, heavy cream, chocolate, cookie crumbs, etc. If you're taking a day off from healthy eating, you can definitely indulge in their cocktails, shakes and desserts. The only sort of bad experience I ever had at an Applebees was when we waited a full HOUR at lunch in a relatively quiet restaurant (under 50% capacity) for our food, despite asking for it twice. And even after that hour, only ONE appetizer came, and still no entrees. We finally asked for the manager, who apologized profusely. We explained our lunch break was over, so she offered to wrap up everything and send it home with us for free. And since we were already hungrily eating the one appetizer we did get, she gave us an additional appetizer of that kind to go. So we ended up getting three appetizers and two entrees, entirely free. Had the event ended differently, as it may well have in another restaurant, we might never have gone back to Applebees. Instead, we remember favorably how nice and apologetic they were about their mistake, and how incredibly generously they had made up for it. Take note, local restaurant proprietors! Now THAT is good customer service.

I'm embarrassed to give this such high marks considering I'm not a huge fan of chain restaurants. I had the wonton tacos with pork. I was great, the right amount of pulled pork in sauce, the slaw was good and the wonton was lightly fried. I was a really good light meal. The service at the bar was fantastic and my friends and I complimented the manager on his sincere offer to help the bartender. Two out of three of us had just quit working for a place we call Hell and it was so nice to see a good boss in action. The jello shots were cheap and the peach tea one was by far the best. Jello shots were definitely a girls night out blowing off steam kind of thing. The sheer number of items with cheese was astounding and it kept me away from things I shouldn't have been eating anyway. :)

The Good: Cheap consistent food, friendly service, and plenty of sports on the TV's. Half price appetizers during happy hour every day. The Bad: Cheap consistent food that is often more sodium than you should eat in a week. The Ugly: Corporate American chain that tries to disguise itself as the friendly neighborhood bar with lots of flea market local mermorabilia, just like every other Applebee's and Ruby Tuesday down the street. The Rundown: It's just like any other Applebee's you've ever been to, except with local sports stuff on the walls. Processed food that comes out pretty much the same everytime, good for a cheap family dinner out. Mostly unhealthy, but they do have steamed broccoli!

Visited there at lunchtime with three friends before going to the movies. Service was slow, but they were very busy and it was noon. My food was fantastic four cheese and Mac. Comfortable booth. Although there is ample handicap parking, there were two of us with stickers and no close parking at that time of the day, then taken to the furtherest booth from the door by the restroom. Its nice to have that person greeting at the door when coming in and leaving. They are always smiling and friendly. I felt somewhat like after we had eaten that they wanted us to leave as they stopped refilling our drinks. We wanted to visit a bit after eating. Will go back again as the food is good.

Applebees gets 2 stars due to the fact they have oregon duck memorabilia on the walls. We came here for a friends bday just to have a few drinks and appetizers. I've NEVER enjoyed applebees as it is, so i simply ordered a margarita on the rocks. Now hey, the drink was actually OK.....I was expecting worse, so perhaps thats why it wasn't so bad. I tried the BBQ boneless buffalo wings my friend ordered, yuuuuck. It's like eating fried batter with bbq sauce, Somone needs to tell them to put chicken in the chicken wings. My wife and her friend ate the spinach artichoke dip, which they loved, and did look good, but wasn't gonna dare try it. The service was good, but i still wont be coming back anytime soon......unless its someones bday again....

We've been coming here for a while, but after last nights dinner, I had to write a review. Our waiter was Nick (iirc), who obviously had been working there for quite some time since he was quick to refill our drinks and get us anything else we needed on top of tending the bar. We were seated quickly, food was great, and service was top notch!

The servers are friendly, so really I'd give 5 stars for that. Also, it's a pleasant atmosphere. I'm a vegetarian though, and I'm giving it my personal rating of 1 star because I get pissed that it's such a pain in the butt to order and they nickle and dime you for substitutions. The menu by itself is pretty much impossible to just put a simple order in if you are vegetarian. Even the salads are ALL non vegetarian. You are forced to ask for something special. I've gone in a few times with family and the first time I was simply disgusted with how much extra they charged me for what turned out to be WAY less food and stupidly simple food with substituting vegetarian options for their regular menu. The last time I went I just ended up ordering two sides of mashed potatoes and a side of herbed potatoes. A few suggestions- stop nickle and diming vegetarians and give them some options. I wish my meat-eating family didn't like this place as I would never ever choose to be there on my own.

This specific location is great because it's right across from the movie theatre. They're quick and friendly, so you can have a couple drinks and chow down before heading over to catch a movie. It is what it is, an evil corporate owned chain with unhealthy food choices. They pour a good drink though, which you can't say about all those standard places. In the end they do a good job keeping the vibe a mix between a family restaurant and a sports-bar. If you don't like standardized pre-prepped food, corporate sponsored cheerfulness or sports, you'll probably want to not bother.

This place is ridiculous, we walked in and then a older couple walked in behind us, and we're seated before us, so we left. The hostess said nothing to stop us and completely ignored us. I then called Adam the manager to complain and he said oh, ok and then proceed to say, I don't know what you want me to say. Well that your hostesses is an idiot! We will never be back for there idiot staff members. Good luck going there the place is a fuckin joke.

Boy, was I disappointed! Ever since I saw the burger with hashbrowns, bacon, and egg on it, I had to have one. I'm a burger fan. Burgers with eggs are one of my favorites. I've had many. This one was, by far, the worst! The main problem was that the egg wasn't fully cooked. I don't mind a little yoke, but when I tried to cut the burger, uncooked egg white (a lot) and yoke squirted out into my plate and all over the table. That left a white 'egg-ish' thing on the burger with everything drained out of it. Also, that soaked the bottom bun making the burger impossible to pick up without making a mess. I had to eat it with a knife and fork. The hashbrowns, fried onions, bacon, etc were very sparse. Nothing like the commercial or the picture in the menu. Also, this was supposed to come with unlimited fries. I'm not sure if it did or not, though. After being getting our food, we didn't see our server until pay-the-bill time. Another thing that annoyed me (but may not annoy everyone) was the music being played. It was straight off the top 40 pop chart with a heavy lean into hip-hop. Maybe this was targeted to a demographic they want, but I found it very unrelaxing. We asked the server about it and, after checking with the manager, she told us it was set 'by corporate'. Actually, that was helpful information. That tells me that I should just avoid ALL Applebee's in the future. Good to know.

We usually have lunch during the week and like their lunch combos. But we stopped for lunch on Sunday and were very disappointed. Lunch combos are only available Mon. - Fri. so we ordered Fish and Chips and Chicken Tender Platter. Both had fries that tasted like frozen fries prepared in the oven at home. They seemed dry. The chicken was so dry it was hard to bite. The batter on the fish was golden on the outside but mushy inside. The new menu seems very limited, mostly appetizers and burgers. From now on it will be lunch Mon. - Fri. only.

Truly one of the worst Applebee's we have ever encountered. Raspberry tea was so watered down you didn't know what it was supposed to be. Asian salad had chicken that was way past AARP qualification. Heavy breading on that chicken made it taste like flour not chicken. Bad time.

    (1)
  • Kat R.

We ordered chips and dip. The tortilla chips were fried in dirty grease and they tasted like chicken, smelled like fish. The manager replaced it for us but ICK and as a vegetarian, DOUBLE ICK! Totally unexpected that my chips would reek of fish. We mentioned it to the manager, suggesting there be a veg friendly fryer for veg dishes and aps. He just said they don't fry red meat in it so it's fine. Great happy hour drinks, good ambiance, fair price it's just that they're pretty careless about food quality. I'd stop there for a drink after a movie at Gateway but not go there just for dinner.

Service can be hit or miss. Tonight has been good and the server Dallas is nice a patient. Some of the customers are annoying and treating a sit down restaurant like its Denny's after midnight. There is no need to whoop and holler when your favorite song comes on as if we were at a dance club. Usually the food is good, but for what you get the prices are pretty high. Only go here every once in a while.

I'm not a huge fan of Applebee's usually because of the quality of the food or depending on where you are, it tends to be crazy busy & loud. But OMG this is def a new one for me... #1. We have a 3yr old... Host didn't even bother with a child's menu, offer a booster or a high chair. Then looked lost when I asked him for a kids menu, as if the concept was just out of this world. #2. I got the quesadilla burger... Never seen it or tried it (it's been 8 yrs since the last time I might've gone to Applebee's), I don't like fries and due to diabetic issues the "quesadilla" on the burger is plenty of carbs. I asked for a substitute "non carb" option... She offered me onion rings or mashed potatoes. She apparently doesn't know what carbs are. I asked for a small side salad and she said it would be $2 more... I told her oh forget it and she still asked if I wanted the fries... I asked for the manager- I don't think he was the "Manager"... I think I got the asst mgr... I don't even want to get detailed about what that cocky lil man said... but basically if it's about the $2.00 the he would pay that no problem- that's not the "issue"... It's just part of it. I asked the waitress if they had fresh peppers like jalapeños... I'm pretty sure the silence was deafening... She gave me a very BLANK look. She didn't know if it was fresh or pickled jalapeños... OMG. Soooo anyway... #3. They brought our the wrong orders an then looked at us as if we magically made them wrong or we were dumb and couldn't remember what we ordered... Waitress said "I guess I grabbed the wrong dish"... Umm yeah I'm pretty sure that is what it was... WOWZA! There's a couple more things but - I will say, there are probably better Applebee's in other cities or places... This one just happen to be in Springfield/Eugene and I'm glad I don't live here anymore and this was the last time I would be eating there... Btw it was closest to Cabela's and easy to park our 26"ft Uhaul and truck towing another car... That's why we ate there.

Walk in & there's almost no one in the entire restaurant, order margaritas about 5 minutes after we came... Too bad they didn't come for over 30 minutes! The waitress didn't apologize or say anything about the wait - as a waitress, if that had happened at my work, I would have comped the drinks OR given a discount. Meanwhile a friends lemonade didn't come for another 10+ minutes. All this time the manager is wandering around the bar on a phone for 20+ minutes then proceeded to pace the restaurant for the duration of our stay doing absolutely nothing. Once we received our food - about an hour or more after we'd been there, they waitress never came back to ask how anything was or if we needed anything else. Terrible service & I would NEVER return to this location. Possibly not to any Applebee's at all though because it seems like they are running on their name now & not actually on how good they are - food was sub par for sure!

Seated right away by a guy who mumbled some words. Got menus and greeted by a nice lady. The seats by the window are under air conditioning. Got their alfredo, steak, chickenmushroom thing. Pics in the pic section. Food was okay and portions were super small. A little bit too salty, however. Nothing special especially for the price.

We have been sitting here for over two hours, and no food. They have been seating in our section the entire time, while other sections have empty tables. My wife sat staring at her salad for ten minutes because they never gave us silverware. We asked a staff member, who told us that she would get them right away. She never returned. We have seen five tables seated, fed and outta here before we even got our food. This is over the top ridiculous!! I actually had to call the restaurant and ask to talk to the manager. I watched the hostess answer the phone and then walk back to the kitchen. When she got to the back, she asked me what I wanted to talk to him about. I told her that I was sitting in her corner booth and had ordered over an hour and a half ago. She said that the manager was getting our food together right now. He wasn't even going to talk to me until I told her that if he didn't care to talk to me then we were leaving. Amazingly, he showed up at our table, but not before she hung up on me without saying a word. When the manager showed up, he said that our food was ordered 20 minutes ago, even though my wife had received her salad 30 minutes ago!! When the food arrived, half of it was cold. I sent back my soup because you shouldn't be able to pick up French onion soup with your bare hands!! Onion rings were never ordered, and the two "mushroom Swiss burgers" had five and six pieces of mushrooms respectively. Manager randomly took items off of the ticket, but never talked to us about what to do to fix the problems.

It wasn't my choice to eat here tonight I usually don't care much for the food. The service is always great. The water tastes like plastic so order a drink of any kind. Or hey Applebee's get a new filter on that Ish! I tried their new honey steak tonight and was quite surprised that I actually liked it. I almost finished it. So that's my recommendation if you eat here.

Nachos: Applebee's nachos aren't really nachos. Well, that might be, but since their spinach dip is great, I'm reviewing that instead. They're tortilla chips, which you dip in cheese with vegetables. Close enough. The biggest benefit of this dish is that the spinach dip is served in the middle, in its own dish, so it doesn't get soggy like nachos, and your fingers stay cleaner. They heat up the chips or fry them in their own kitchen, which makes the chips fresher too, though they mostly taste like average tortilla chips. They used to be red, yellow and black, but last time I went they were all just yellow. Victim of the recession I guess. Atmosphere: Somewhere between a big chain restaurant and a sports bar. The square set-up means your waiter/waitress comes by often to refill drinks. That set-up also means it's nice when it's quiet, but awful on family nights, because you can't go to the bar to escape the kids. We just avoid busy hours though. The decor? "Decoration level: Applebee's" Service: Always good, fast, attentive. One time they did forget our food for an hour, but they sent us home with bags full of food and comped everything.

Bad time.
