I absolutely love this place. I always get the Ginger Stir Fry and the sauce is amazing! This is my favorite Thai restaurant in town. They are very generous with their tofu and vegetables. The tofu at this place is honestly the best tofu in town. It's not under cooked which I find very common for a lot of restaurants. I also find that a lot of Thai dishes at other restaurants under cook their vegetables as well. This place makes them perfect. If I could afford to eat out on a regular basis, I would be a regular here. :)

I agree with what most of the other customers said before: you get very tasty food, especially for the price. We were a group of 5 people and all were happy with their meal (appetizers, dinner, desert). It is true that the decor is nothing really special, so I wouldn't go there for a romantic date... but it's large enough for a group, and then who cares about the atmosphere when it's a dinner among friends? The service was good, and the place was clean.

I would be in legitimate mourning if this place ever closed. It's the only reason I come into Springtucky from the Hemp Macrame Curtain Capitol. The pineapple fried rice is really perfect.

Probably the best deal in town you'll find for quick, delicious Thai food. At lunch, the small portions are only $5 and the larger ones $7. For appetizers, don't miss out on the Thai Salad or spring rolls. Both were perfect.

Stopped by on a ten hour drive from Cali back home to Portland. Brought the family of 7 round 7pm. The decor is lovely, the place is clean. Smellls great walking in. They seem to be understaffed, with just one waitress. Our waitress was prompt and fast.l and very kind. We ordered the Thai iced tea. It has no bubbles, its a good tea, noce flavor they also use whole milk, its a 16 oz glass and for 2.50 it's a good deal. The 36 was nice flavor but not spicy. The 39 was not as peanutty as I would have liked but tasted good and fresh. Medium sized portions for 9.50 it's a nice deal. Fresh ingredients and good flavor I reccomend this place and would come back again. If you love spice up the heat with a 3 or 5 it's not spicy enough for my taste. Chef was adamant about leaving 15% for a tip, we were 7 people not 8 and the menu says that 8 people were needed for a 15%. We left a tip. We loved our waitress and her service but the chef could have been nicer about the tip thing.

I eat thai food all of the time. The food here tastes good, however for what they charge, I believe the portion size is extremely small. My daughter ordered pad Thai with chicken and we found a lot of tofu in it without realizing as the waitress later said, is part of the dish. It almost seems to me like another way to cut back on portions of real chicken. I'm not happy with our meal overall, and think if they are going to cut corners they should charge less. Last but not least, the waitress immediately told us they closed at 8:30 when we walked in at 8:00 (which I was aware of) it made me feel really rushed and I felt like the comment was unnecessary as long as we made it through the door in time. I could see if it was 10-15 mins until close.

Second time trying Thai food... This place did not disappoint!!! The wife ordered the yellow curry and loved it. She said it had good flavor and texture was good. I had the Pad Thai just like last time and it was great! I can say we both enjoyed our dinner. The customer service was a three star though. The waitress was not attentive of the table but when she came by she did so with a smile and served out food promptly. I will definitely visit this place again!!!

I love going to Aiyara, and after having been to every Thai place in town, I can easily say that they are one of my top 2 places to go for Thai food. Service can be a bit slow as they never have more than one girl working in the front, but the food is always fixed fast and fresh, refills on drinks are always fast. I've had one bad instance where I found a small rock in my meal, and the owner came over and apologized, said that sometimes the garlic gets small pieces of debirs, etc. When it was time to pay, I found out that she had comped me that meal as well as my drink, which I didn't ask for but it was a nice surprise to find. Definitely shows how far they're willing to go to make you happy. They have an online ordering option as well, which I've used several times and always works out well. Try the spicy noodles if you get a chance, just don't get them too hot or you'll melt your face off. :)

I used to work right across from Aiyara. I love Thai food and Aiyara is among the best in town. This is a family run restaurant and the owner was always kind to me, even sending me home with a special dessert one night after I told her I was bringing my wife takeout for her birthday! My favorite dish here is the pineapple fried rice, which is usually full of goodies. Maybe not super healthy but good sized portions and very tasty. Tried several other menu items at different times. Never had a bad meal or an expensive check. There was a fish dish once that was outstanding, though I can't remember the name. Anyhow, while it might not look like much from the outside, Aiyara is a great spot.

I love Thai and have eaten at every Thai restaurant in town, some in San Diego, Los Angeles, Humbolt and Portland. So I am well versed in Thai food here on the west coast I think. I also recently had gastric bypass so I choose VERY carefully what I eat. So today I decided to have some Spicy Laab from Aiyara, assuming it would be (at least) similar to what I have been served dozens of times before. This was a treat for me. The front of house girl has been there for a really long time and is a delight to deal with. She always smiles, checks on you, but is unobtrusive. I wish more servers were as nice as she is. After a very short wait, she brought me Laab to go as asked. She thanked me warmly and I left. I walk in the house, ravenous. Open my Laab and what do I find?!?! SALAD!!! Plenty of pale romaine lettuce, mostly inner stalks. The tablespoon or two of leaves were completely wilted, but thankfully not slimy yet. A layer of thinly sliced cabbage (or so I thought). Less than 1/2 cup of pork sprinkled on the top. Some carrot shreds and cilantro. A bit shocked to see it was a salad, maybe I read the menu wrong, I was still gonna eat it...it looked ok. Thought I was shocked by first glace...First bite was a total shock! I had a mouth full of onions....RAW ONIONS! So I think, no biggie, I'll just pick off the nasty white raw onions (which have no place in a meal other than on a good hamburger, or diced tiny in salsa). So I started picking, and picking, and picking. I pulled 1 cup of RAW ONIONS off of my salad. As if that wasn't completely offensive enough. The dressing wasn't "spicy" at all. Didn't even tingle your tongue...not a bit, zilch, zero, nada! I almost started to cry. In my post surgical state, food has a whole new meaning and I had been jonesing for that taste of Thai and had just spent $9 of my hard earned money. So I took an oniony breath and called Aiyara. The awesome front of house girl picked up the phone. I told her what the problem was and she said either bring it back in and she'll make me something different or I could get my money back. She was super conciliatory, apologetic and professional. I opted to get my money back. I hung up the phone, picked the lettuce out of the Laab and scraped the onions out of the sink and into a small bag. I though surely, this was some kind of mistake and they would like to see that I wasn't lying. Maybe someone made a mistake. I go into the restaurant, and again, greeted by the lovely front of house girl. She apologized again, looked at the bag of onions with a shocked expression, apologized some more and began to process the refund. All of a sudden out STALKS the owner, head cook, whoever it was, lady...you could tell she was IN CHARGE. Front counter girl clearly steps back a few feet. So for the rest of this, make sure you insert a yelling, Asian accent to fully appreciate the absolute absurdity of the situation... Lady: "What wrong?! Me: "I ordered Laab and this is a salad, its covered in raw onions. I've had Laab many places and have never seen it like this. It's terrible." Lady: "Why you bring onions?!" Me: "It's what she (pointing at the girl) told me to do?" Lady: "Why you no bring box?!" Me: "She told me I could have you make something new or get a refund. I opted for refund." Lady: "I make for 10year! There no thing wrong!! Why you know bring box?!" By know I'm totally cheesed off and began to raise my voice. We exchanged a few more words, she asked me why I "no bring box" at least 3 more times and she turned on heel and stormed back into the kitchen. The front desk girl looked humiliated and embarrassed. She apologized repeatedly. I asked her, "Is she always a (insert expletive) like that?" And the girl said yes, nodding her head. Come to think of it, she was talking to another guest when I walked in about that same woman being rude! I should have known what I was in for. I've eaten here before. The food is OK...never spicy enough...but good and close to home. AND...I don't care if that 2010 article posted in multiple places throughout the restaurant says that the Thai government has said you serve the most "authentic" Thai food. BUT...after that tirade, I wouldn't throw dog poop at that restaurant, let alone my money. I will NEVER go back and I would highly recommend that you don't bother either. Oh, and to the woman who screamed at me in the middle of the restaurant....what goes around comes around. Keep yelling at customers with valid complaints and see how many folks come to your business. I reiterate...do not support this place! There's plenty of GOOD Thai places around town and no one should be subjected to that kind of in-hospitality and blatant harassment!!!!

Great service. Clean restaurant with an semi-open kitchen that is very clean. We had three appetizers - wontons (amazing!), spring rolls and dumplings (both very good). Then we all had the Pad Thai which is some of the best I have ever had. I would come back here in a heart beat. It's tough to find tucked in the corner of a strip mall with very poor signage, but it is worth it. So good!!

I lived in Thailand for six years... Actually I still have a home there in Chang Mai. This is putting Americanized Thai food... Nervous really not much that I want to say about my visit... Because I was just traveling from Seattle down to California. Was hungry for some Thai food. And found this on Yelp. The food was okay... But lacking in many ways. I hope was expecting more from what I was told Morrill THAI cooks in the kitchen.

I have now come to Aiyara three different times all for lunch, and I am happy to say the food is quite delicious. I have had the Phad Thai, Tom Ka, Tom Yum Gai, the panang which doesn't come with beef :( and now today the Chiang Mai noodle dish. The spices here are appropriate, not over powering like some just trying to get the heat up but appropriate in nature to let you know there is spice, but you can handle it. I am very appreciative of the fact a pitcher of water is brought to the table, thus eliminating the constant need of tracking down the server for more water. I can do it when I am ready. Located right behind the new Wild Wings at the Gateway location, the parking is ample unlike many strip mall type restaurants. With 8 single tables and 7 four top tables, there is always seemingly space available for this little gem. If you find yourself over in the Gateway area of Springfield, stay away from the chains and try some good Thai. You'll be glad you did.

I ate at Aiyara last night. I ordered the Red Curry with Butternut Squash with chicken. It came with a pretty small amount of rice (not enough for the curry I was given). I had to ask for a spice rack as I wasn't given a choice on how spicy I wanted my food, which was weird. The curry was good but the chicken was *not* plentiful. I was thinking that as a special, which cost more than other types of curries on the menu there might be more chicken or even butternut squash, for that matter. For dessert I had their custard, which didn't look appetizing at all but was tasty. The service was okay, friendly woman who found out whether my dishes had gluten and/or dairy in them, which I appreciated. This was a pretty dead restaurant at dinner time compared to Ta Ra Rin, which I also visited on this recent trip. I did like that it was out of the way and close to my hotel in a strip mall near the big mall. Having visited this restaurant many years ago at lunch time I do know it is quite popular!

Affordable lunch with genorous portions. Quite atmosphere. Good for kids. Beer and wine are available or you can bring your own bottle of wine from home for a five dollar fee. I like spicy and this place does it right! I'll eat here again.

Although it isn't much to look at from the outside, this place is a diamond in the rough. Such flavor and perfect portions! This is a well run and family operated labor of love. It is nice and clean inside. The dishes we ordered were a delight for our taste buds. Pure pleasure. You're welcome :)

I hate to judge on a first visit but I'm out of town. I came here because it was close to the hotel I'm staying at. I ordered the #40. Its a beef curry noodle dish. The overall size of the portion was just OK. There definitely wasn't enough noodles for all of the curry. I had to order a side of rice after the fact to add to the dish so I could enjoy the curry. The beef was tender but was meager in the serving size. I've had a lot of Thai food in different areas. This restaurant was definitely a metiocre experience. You won't be blown away with service or food but you won't leave disappointed.

I LOVE this place. The food is fresh and delicious! I have tried several things on the menu, and am never disappointed. The staff are friendly and fast. The environment is set up more like a coffee shop, but I go for the food, not the decor. It is delicious!

My wife and I have been going to Aiyara Thai Café weekly since it opened (about 8 years ago). I can say with much authority that this is the tastiest, freshest, and most consistent restaurant that I have ever been to. Every dish seems like it's been inspected for perfection under a magnifying glass (and could thus appear on the cover of a culinary magazine). Each vegetable is cut perfectly and radiates with beautiful color--talk about fresh! I've never bitten into anything but the leanest, most succulent bites of meat (pork and chicken are my usual selections). Don't even get me started on the flavor! Hint: try the Thai Salad for an appetizer (is it the mint that makes it so tasty, or the combination of flavors? How do they do it?). I also strongly recommend the Cashew Chicken, Spicy Noodle, Chili Mint Sauce, and Peanut Curry. The spring rolls aren't too shabby either! I had never heard of Thai food before moving to Eugene. I've learned that this is the place to be for this cuisine, and Aiyara Thai Café is perhaps the best of the best. All of the dishes come from Northern Thailand (the home of the owner), and each meal is prepared under her supervision. While the atmosphere isn't ideal (it's in a strip mall), you will not be disappointed by the food. This should be on everyone's list of the top 10 foods to try before you die.

This place is sooooo good.. I hadn't really ever been to Thai food but a few times elsewhere and my boyfriend took me here years ago and its one of our regular spots now. The service is awesome! Food comes out very fast not a long wait time. My favorite thing to eat here is ginger chicken w broccoli added and my new favorite drink Thai Iced Tea.. They both go soooo well together. My boyfriend likes to get the Winter Squash curry the last few times we have eaten here it was a special and its super super good.. Just a little spicy for me to eat as my whole meal.. so I just snag a few bites from him. You can also get to go orders here and if you call and order it when you get there its already done.. Restaurant is small but very well kept and clean. For desert.. Sticky rice with coconut ice cream its to die for! They are so nice here I enjoy coming back again and again.

The past few times we've been to Aiyara (we usually get takeout) have been just OK. We always order the same dishes: pad thai, green curry and #22, the veggie stir fry with chicken. The sauce on #22 is always yummy, but for a veggie dish, it has been sorely lacking. Last night's version was mostly onions, celery and carrots -- not the colorful and fresh combo I recall -- and they've been stingy with the pineapple that always took this dish to the next level for me. The pad thai last night was just weird. It's never my favorite (my son always orders it). It's kind of tomatoey or something. Last night he complained that it had way too much egg, plus the chicken was scarce and mushy and I swear there was tofu on there too -- but honestly, we couldn't tell if it was really tofu, crispy/oily egg or mushy chicken. We much prefer Noodle n Thai these days but Aiyara is closer and open later, so we won't give up on it yet. I just wish they'd raise the bar back to where it used to be.

Strip mall Thai restaurant without the nice decor - food wasn't quite like any I'd had in bigger cities - flavors were a little - off. Too much fish sauce in the Phad See Yu - my son who normally loves the stuff wouldn't take more than a bite. Also had either the ginger chicken or the cashew chicken - can't remember because it wasn't memorable. Won't be going again...

  • Kimberly G.

Yummmmmy! I had a bowl of Tom Kha soup which was a coconut milk base with mushrooms, onions, tomato, green onion, cilantro and some other spices. I chose the chicken but they also have tofu. Then I had Chiang Mai Beef Curry Noodles off the Northern Thai area of the menu, ordered it 4 stars (1-5 stars spicy rating when you order) could have done 5 stars but they brought me some fish sauce with Thai peppers to make it a bit hotter. There was a steady stream of people for both dine in and take out but the staff never skipped a beat, they were fast and friendly without compromise. As for the 4 star rating, it lost a half star for atmosphere and another half because the meal was a bit smaller than I expected for the price though I still brought some home for later. If you are hungry for good Thai and over near the Gateway mall, I recommend you try Aiyara.

This is a difficult review to write because I have heard many good things about this place, but after going a half-dozen times, it's not getting any better. First, the good: interesting menu with several chiang mai dishes--a real bonus. Attentive and friendly service. The bad: the food is merely okay. How can I put this? It's just bland. It's as if they are catering to the mild American palate even more so than most other Thai joints. If you don't enjoy strong flavors, this place may be for you. On the other hand if you want your Thai to be spicy and pungent you'll need to go elsewhere. A shame, because, as I mentioned, the menu is very good. The food, not as much.

Went here on the way from Medford to Portland. Saw 4 stars on yelp and thought it would be a great place for dinner. We got there just before 5:00 knowing they were not open for dinner yet. It looked promising because there were a decent number of people parked and waiting for them to open. Service was quick and our waitress was polite. However, this was the most disappointing Thai food I have ever had. I was not expecting it to be up to par with San Francisco or Portland restaurants but my pad see ew with beef (for $9.95) was the smallest portion I've ever seen at a Thai place and just did not taste good. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing because my husband liked his peanut sauce curry. Maybe the reviews are so high because this is the only Thai place nearby, but I felt like I paid way too much money for not that good of food. Won't be stopping here again.

pad thai was pretty good. panang curry was solid. had to buy extra rice though for 50 cents. prices were average to lower end for the area. My favorite thai place so far, have tried about 5-6 in hopes for a solid top choice. 5 stars unless I find a better one.

  • Lance E.

Went to this restaurant today and for the most part was pleased. 1.The Tom Ka-Gai is awesome.Had a nice galangal flavor, and not too thick with coconut milk. 2.The tofu green curry was outstanding. A perfect balance of spice, texture and seasoning, which danced on my palate. 3.The Pad Thai was good, however it seemed to be sweeter than what I am accustomed to. 4.Awesome Thai iced tea. 5.Awesome service. 6.A large, extensive menu. Overall I give this place 3 stars and definitely going to go back and try some other dishes. Very reasonably priced.

I work near this restaurant and it is definately my favorite place to go for lunch. I have been known to go there more than once in any given week. My very favorite thing is the mint chili dish on the lunch menu, I love the SAUCE!! I get it without the bell peppers (I don'tlike peppers) and it is awesome. I have a couple friends that work nearby, and when I meet either of them for lunch, it's always, "meet at the usual place", becasue we all love it. The service is very friendly, the restaurant is clean, and has a good bathroom.

I have been eating at Aiyara for years and they only get better with time. I think they have the best thai food in the eugene/springfield area by far. Phad thai and all the curry they make are my favorite.

  • K. I.

Good food, very clean (and visible) kitchen, helpful waitstaff, and the best ice cream--had the coconut (which is not my favorite flavor in the world), but I loved it. I think they make peach too. Not an aesthetic dining experience however, but judging from the amount of obvious regulars, and a healthy flow of take-out orders, this place has their own niche.

  • Jenn C.

The best Thai I've had in Eugene! The ambiance is somewhat lacking, but with food like this-who cares! Service is fast and friendly. Menu is large and well thought out. My biggest complaint, no delivery. If you like Thai food you owe it to yourself to give this place a try.

  • Magda M.

I stopped by here for dinner with co-workers while in town on business. Had the Pad See Ew type dish and found it to be OK. I requested it to be medium spicy but it had no spice to it at all. The atmosphere is plain and the server was kind.

  • Heather S.

What Aiyara lacks in ambiance, it makes up for in good, home style thai food. The menu contains some unique items not found at other thai joints in Eugene/Springfield and you can actually order a cup of tom kha gai instead having to go for an entire bowl. I tried a northern thai beef curry dish with noodles and some kind of pickled cabbage and onion condiment. It was delicious. My husband had a pineapple curry that was well seasoned but unexceptional. The portions were a bit on the small side, but the prices are a tad lower than other locations that have larger servings so I guess it works out okay. And I left feeling full and satisfied. Parents Note: Wow - a real wooden high chair - not the typical restaurant kind. (I only saw one available though.) The food came out super quick, too, a great feature for a hungry toddler.

As mentioned here already, the Chiang Mai dishes are very good, and not all that spicy unless you ask for it. The slow-cooked pork curry (no coconut milk) particulaly reminds me of good Indian curries.

My girlfriend and I tried this place for the first time the other day...I am a huge thai food fan...and the overall experience was blah and my pad thai was absolutely disgusting! The thai ice tea was good...and my girlfriend had the cashew nut dish...she really enjoyed it so I suppose it wasn't all bad...I feel like service could have been better and unfortunately I do not see myself returningm

I had Pad See-yu delivered by Pony Express (service that delivers for a number of restaurants in the area) to my hotel. It was quite good. I was a bit worried by the complaints about blandness from some of the other reviewers, especially since a) I don't care for super-hot food, and b) some Thai cooks seem to think that if one doesn't want pepper flakes, one doesn't want any flavor at all. Undaunted, I ordered the dish mild, and was pleased to find that it was sweet (not too much so) and savory, as the culinary gods intended. Large portions too. Well done.

Economical good food. What's not to like? When we want Thai, we bypass a few others to go to Aiyara. Hmm. Reminds me that we haven't been for awhile. Hey, hubby, how about Thai on Friday? Yup, just as good as I remember it.

Authentic Thai food, with an interesting menu and daily specials. Dishes tend to be on the bland side, especially to-go orders. Portions are large for reasonable prices. My favorite is the pineapple fried rice with shrimp. Huge portion, lots of shrimp and consistently good.

I thought the food at this place was pretty average Thai food. The spring rolls were pretty much flavorless. I got the red curry and my husband got the peanut sauce curry. They have a 5 star rating for spice and I went with 3 stars. If you like spice (like I do), go for more stars. The red curry was good but the peanut sauce curry was on the sweet side. The service was good and our food arrived quickly.

Aiyara Thai Cafe, located near the Gateway Mall, serves really good Thai food. They've done well enough that they recently expanded and added to their staff. There are several good Thai restaurants in Springfield, but this one is my favorite.

Aiyara is yummy and authentic Thai food made with love! It's not as fancy as some other places in town, but the prices are cheaper & they have some unique dishes that aren't on other menus... most notably Khao Soi... a curry noodle dish that is the signature dish in Chiang Mai, Thailand... though they only serve it with beef & I prefer a chicken option (which is prevalent in Chiang Mai). I am fine with beef, though, because this dish is not served anywhere else in town! I love peaking in the open kitchen and seeing the food being prepared. Very hospitable and sweet service. Grab some affordable Thai food before a cheap movie at Gateway for a perfect budget date night!
