Went to the Silverton Wooden Nickel for lunch today. It was great food just like the Sublimity one. However the service was a bit slow. I ordered the Spicy Chicken Sandwich which was good however it was just buffalo wing sauce spread onto the chicken patty which made it a bit messy to eat. Not a huge fan of buffalo wing sauce.

I had a half rack order of ribs. The first clue was the ribs swathed in BBQ sauce. As I bit into one, it was all cartilage and fat. I could not get beyond that one bite. The Baked potato and cole slaw were very good and that is all I ate. The server was understanding and was going to comp the entire meal, but since I ate the other items, I said half off would be fine. What bothered me was when she told the cook, he uttered a disagreement with my assessment of the ribs. To be fair, I have had their ribs at special events in the local park and they were great. If you ever have them at the restaurant bathed in sauce, beware.

The german sausage casing was very tough, but the flavor was great. The mashed potatoes were lukewarm and I had to send them back to be heated up. It was a quaint little place, but it wasn't worth the $35 bucks we paid for the two of us. Maybe just try it for a drink.

I know this is Silverton, and I'm pretty much out in the boons of Oregon, but I still expect to at least get some decent veggie options from a restaurant. I came here with a date looking for some late night eats. And by late night, I mean 8 pm on a Wednesday, it is Silverton after all. We were recommended to this place from it's partner restaurant in town because that place was absolutely dead. Suffice to say, this place wasn't much better. We came here under the impression that they did have veggie options, so imagine my disappointment when the best they could do was a yakisoba bowl with veggies. Like I'm going to trust Asian food from a run down bar in Silverton. Luckily, they were able to scrounge up a veggie burger for me from the depths of their freezer. The burger was alright, pretty bland, and nothing really impressed me about this place. I did enjoy hearing the bartender and waitress cuss each other out near the end of our meal. Awkward? Yes. But it is Silverton, so I guess I shouldn't expected anything less.

I got the Nickel Club. First off, they use real turkey. Real turkey sliced from the bird and smoked right there. You could smell and taste the smoke from the turkey before the sandwich entered your mouth. Awesome turkey. Like normal club sandwiches the normal cast of characters were assembled: mayo, ham, turkey, swiss cheese, cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato on sourdough bread. Bacon was crispy and thickly sliced. To me the turkey was the star of the sandwich. To me this is one of the best club sandwiches in the area due to the fact they use real meat and none of that processed and mechanically separated stuff. Very enjoyable lunch, will be back.

If you're looking for typical bar food (unhealthy, greasy, delicious) this is a good place to eat! Drinks are cheap and they often have good live music. But, it's kind of an old person bar, environment is a little lame for a bar.

The three stars are for the BBQ ribs I had at Homer Davenport Days. They were awesome! Minus two stars for two half rib racks and one sausage dog for the price of 31.00. At your prices, it was nice knowing you. Bye.

My family and I used to dine at Wooden Nickle but we hadn't been in a few years. We normally eat at Macs Place, as it has the same owner. Tonight we went in at 4:30 before my daughters school play. There was NO vegetarian items on the menu... except a pre packaged yakosobi noodle! My daughter asked the waitress to make her a big salad with all the different veggies they may have, and a few hard boiled eggs for protein. How does anyone make such a crappy salad? They actually put quartered onions on the salad rather than cutting them, huge mushroom chunks... and NO eggs... When the waitress asked how it was we told her... her excuse... we dont have many vegetarian options... but what does that have to do with cutting up the vegetables you put in the salad? I saw on another person's review that they were offered a veggie burger as an option... I dont know if that is still an option or if our waitress just wasnt interested in doing her job. BTW the waitress was rude when she found out we needed to order a vegetarian plate. They used to have amazing rectangular hamburgers, not so amazing anymore. The patty was over cooked and the homemade bun was soggy. Both Wooden Nickle and Macs Place have really gone down hill in the last few years. Service is getting worse and the food is hit or miss, with more times being a miss lately. I think its time for the owner to find a new manager!
