Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This is a little place that we have always driven by but never thought to stop. We were introduced to take out from this restaurant last week and we have already gone back twice! The burritos are amazing!!! Looking forward to exploring the menu a bit more but for now I highly recommend the pastor burrito with everything on it.

This is honestly my favorite Mexican restaurant I've been to. The food is delicious and fresh. The bakery is full of wonderful pastries for a great price. The people who work there are very friendly. I'd recommend this place to anyone. 5 stars!!!

My group had a burrito craving after a night of camping for Oktoberfest. This was the highest rated Mexican place in the area so we took a trip to Silverton to give it a try. The interior looks like it was pieced together little by little with free supplies. I counted 4 different types of vinyl flooring that I could see from my seat, but Thats not really what matters. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. There were a lot of other Latino people coming in and out to buy their fresh pastries so I imagine they're traditional and tasty. I didn't have room to give one a try unfortunately. It took me a few minutes to get a handle on the menu posted behind the register. The layout is kind of messy and your choices and combinations aren't obvious right away. After a few minutes I decided to go with a steak and egg burrito with everything except onion. I'm glad I made that choice as everyone else in the group said the onion was more than they needed. The burrito was pretty big. My friends had a hard time keeping the bottom end of theirs closed as they were pretty loosely wrapped. Mine was easier to manage somehow. There were a few bites of steak that were too stringy for me to swallow but overall it really hit the spot. I'd recommend giving it a try.

You can't get any more authentic than this. The menus is loaded with great options and the service was friendly and helpful. I went with the Steak Burrito with everything and was blown away! Highly recommended if you want Mexican food as delicious as it gets. They also have a wall of pastries for $0.75 each so we went to town an got a bunch of them. All were fresh and tasty little treats. I will be going back anytime I'm in the area.

Great food at a good price. My wife and I ordered our food (2 burritos) and not 5 minutes after we sat down it was delivered. The burritos were delicious and absolutely gargantuan, everything is homemade, and they had friendly service. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the AC either didn't work or was turned off on a 93 degree day. Other than that it is a fantastic place to visit.

This is a great authentic restaurant. 5 stars for food, 3 stars for setting and ambience. It is really nice to have some great food available in Silverton.

What a welcome find, thanks to yelp for this "hole in the wall" entry. On a mini vacay to the Oregon Garden Resort, also located in Silverton, I hungered for real, authentic type food. Los Girasoles no doubt, brought a smile to my lips. Immediately after entering the door, I ordered up three tacos - lengua, cabeza, and tripa meats to be exact. This trio plate hit the spot, however the tamale I ordered along with it did not impress. I'd avoid that option if I had to do it again. Bookmarking this location is highly advised for Silverton, OR. A final note: the salsa verde, a.k.a. green hot sauce, is spicy and just plain awesome!

Excellent tortillas and fun chile relleno with a Unique creamy tomato sauce. Fish taco and tamale were only ok. Orchata tasty. We tried the Mole which had a unique and delightful flavor yum. Service was good. Glad we stopped here

It makes me really happy when a Mexican restaurant has vegetarian tamales, and Los Girasoles did! The tamale was yummy and hot, filled with peppers and cheese. I also tried the vegetarian burrito, and it was very good. I liked that it had cabbage inside with the rice, beans, cheese and other vegetables. My husband enjoyed his tacos and chicken tamales very much. Also, the red salsa is delicious!! I would purchase a bottle of it if I could! The service was quick and friendly. We will stop by again the next time we are in Silverton.

Awesome...Silverton, oregon. .who knew. Flipping awesome .Carnitas remind me of southern California: tender, juicy chunks of pork crisped to perfection. Counter ordering and back to counter to buy another beer and no chips brought down the best flipping Carnitas north of San Diego by a star.

We came in not expecting much--well it didn't look like much. We ordered burritos, quesadillas for the kids, chicken with mole sauce, etc. The quesadillas came out first, and we all took bites just to try it--it was SO GOOD. It's funny how something as simple as quesadilla can taste so fantastic when it's done right. The trend continued--everything was excellent. We've been to Mexico a couple of times, and this place reminded me of our yummy meals there. I highly recommend this place. You don't come here for ambiance, decor or business lunch--it's just simply good Mexican food.

They have flavorful food and are not the run of the mill Mexican taco joint. Their pan dulce is decent. We went back yesterday and had burritos. They were fantastic. I ordered the everything burritos which included cabbage, cilantro and sour cream. My mom had chicken, Rani and I had Carne Asada, the boys had lengua and my daughter had a quesadilla. Everyone agreed the meat was well-marinated and the burritos were huge. My daughter loved her quesadilla. They were akin to having a combination plate in a tortilla. I am becoming addicted to Los Girasoles!
(4)Robynn H.
Super friendly environment, great sauce -especially the green! Very casual and authentic. Thanks for the reviews Yelpers! We have been there each time we head to The Oregon Garden, now.

This is the perfect little hole-in-the-wall for authentic taqueria style Mexican food. The space is tight and the atmosphere casual. The ordering counter is immediately on the right as you walk in the door, with a drink cooler to the left and a pan dulce case across room. The gal at the counter was very friendly, helpful, and patient with our family of four. My wife ordered the Burrito Enchilado, my 11-y.o. son ordered the Tamale plate with beans & rice, my daughter a basic cheese Quesadilla, and I went for un Orden de Al Pastor (comes with beans, rice, homemade tortillas). The whole family loved what they had, but I can't speak for their taste buds, so I will just elaborate on my own... The first thing I tasted was the large horchata that I ordered. I found it to be very sweet and syrupy, with a good balance of cinnamon. For just drinking by itself, I would prefer the lighter, less sweet horchatas that I've had at other local taquerias; but when paired with my dinner plate, I thought it was excellent. All of our food came out very quickly, and all were generous portions (especially for the price). In addition to my al pastor, they also brought out a roasted jalapeno with a wedge of lime -- one of my favorite treats. How did they know?!? The tortillas were obviously fresh, and they reminded me of my benchmark for homemade tortillas, Luis' Taqueria in Woodburn. The al pastor was lightly sweet, with a homey warm flavor that is hard to describe -- I rate it even better than my old standby, El Chilito in Canby. The beans reminded me of the real home-cooked Mexican refried beans I've had a handful of times over the years, and the rice also did not disappoint. Absolutely delicious. We took home a few small bits of leftovers, most of which came from my 7-y.o. daughter's quesadilla -- she could only eat half of it. We headed over to the pan dulce case after dinner and each picked out a treat to eat at home later. It was all very good. I don't want to be too quick to crown Los Girasoles as the best Mexican food around, so I'm going to have to come back and try a few more menu items. But after one visit, I will confidently place in the same category as Luis' and El Chilito. We will be back for sure.

I finally decided to give this place a try today and am so pleased I did. I ordered the veggie burrito and it was by far the BEST one I've ever eaten. Not heavy or greasy, a perfect amount of every ingredient. The cilantro and cabbage was an excellent touch. I haven't tried anything else, but based on this one item I would highly recommend this place! I ordered to go so am unsure about service, but they seemed very friendly and the price is right.

Never disappointed! Love love love this place! Food is fresh, quick, and priced affordably.

Normally I do not take the time to write a review. In fact this is the first time. My husband & decided to try this place a couple days ago. We both ordered the chicken enchilada with rice & beans. Nothing was really very good. Not horrible as it was edible just not very good. Chicken enchiladas were blah & dry. We are used to getting them with a nice red sauce on them & some melted cheese. These were extremely dry. Just a hint of dried on sauce on the enchilada with some shredded cabbage? and a little finely grated powdered looking cheese sprinkled on top. Rice & beans were also blah. No chips & salsa available either. Very disappointed in the food. Staff was friendly.

We love Mexican food and have been to so many places in the US and Mexico. This is definitely one of the better places in the Pacific Northwest. The flavors, attention to detail in preparation, and friendly service are superb. I liked it enough to write this review, my first one on Yelp.

I was craving true Mexican food in the middle of Oregon and stumbled upon Los Girasoles. The carne asada was just what I needed and listening to the red-hot gossip between the girl at the cash register and her sister was even more fiery than the salsa! It was an oasis of spicecake in the middle of white bread territory. Thank you!
(4)Chris E.
Yummy! Homemade tortillas, tasty spicy pork, and super affordable. What a nice surprise!
(4)Anonymous Y.
Great little authentic Mexican place!!! It's a bit "dive-y" like many authentic Mexican places, but also seems clean and well maintained (many don't in my opinion). I've ate here many times and always enjoyed my meal! Portions are big, prices low and service fast. Try it!
(4)Rico R.
Very good burritos. Service was really good. They also have pastries but my belly doesn't need them. I'll probably be back to this place.
(4)Johnny D.
talk about some authentic mexican home cooking at its finest. after an experience in this modest establishment, you'll insist to go to the kitchen to hug the cook. there is nothing you get here that you'll turn your nose up to. for a quick meal, order a couple tacos at less than a $2 each. the Huarache was the dish that almost made me tear up out of love. i suggest you try it. for the incredibly picky or those that don't want anything to fancy, try a tostada, a couple flautas, or even a burrito or two. like i said, you can't possibly order something you'll regret here. just a bit of warning, the parking here is somewhat haphazard. its a small parking lot that'll fit several cars, but with no painted or marked spots, parking is however you decide. omg... i may have to go back to this place tomorrow
(5)Steve S.
I had theTaco special, shredded pork. Came with beans and rice. We were looking for a quick lunch and looked on Yelp for a suggestion. We read about this place and thought we would check it out. Good food and service. The only thing is they didn't serve chips with the meal. That may have been because of the "special" but I missed the chips and salsa you normally get.

Welcome to Mexico, This little hole inthe wall is just north of Silverton OR, and is nothing really fancy. It has chairs, tables and Mexican Soap Opera or Soccer on the TV in the background. You pick from the menu that is up on the wall and they bring it out to you. The food is great and hot, and they also have a bakery in the place, which you have to take home. If you want your Mexican food "fix" this is a great place to come to.
(4)Woo G.
Today we had the huaraches... So very very good. Outside of Mexico this was the best! If you are in silverton definitely stop by - you won't be disappointed.
(4)Alex N.
Hole in the wall authentic type of a place. Food was just OK. No chips and Salsa. Not the cleanest.
(3)MirMack M.
Had a great lunch here going through town, took some baked goods for later. Good simple casual Mexican food.

What a great find in Silverton. Freshly made, delicious and authentic Mexican food, as well as a bakery and some other items such as sauces, real Mexican paletas, etc. This is an unfussy, small restaurant where you can sit in or take out. Friendly service, good prices and just a really good authentic feel. I get the impression people are coming from far and wide to eat here, and with good reason. We dropped in here on a Friday for lunch, and liked it so much we came back the next day! This is sure to be a stop on our next jaunt to Silverton. We tried the tacos, next time we will do full platas.

Yummy! Just absolutely yummy! We found this place wandering around town during a visit to Oregon Garden Resort. The food is terrific. The tortas (sandwiches) are amazing- and why wouldn't they be? The bread is fresh baked right there! I had them make me a chorizo & egg sandwich. Out of this world good. And the tres leches cake isn't super sweet. It is just as it should be. Wish I could skip the 4 hr drive & eat there right now. It has been a month & I can't get this place out of my head.
(5)Robert C.
Good, home-cooked Mexican at very reasonable prices. A great place for lunch or dinner.
(5)Alexa H.
Stopped in for quick bite to eat. Very friendly staff and they steered me to the top three dishes. The first was a dish I had never had before, so that's what I ordered. (I think taco's were #2 and I can't remember the third!) Anyway, I had a chavendeca which is basically two warm corn tortillas filled with meat and cheese (I chose spicy pork) topped with sour cream, shredded cabbage, onions, sliced avocado, some tomatoes and cilantro. Various green and red salsa were served on the side. It was excellent, and only $6. This is a very casual taqueria, but I give it five stars because of the food quality and friendly staff.
(5)Jacob D.
Excellent, truly authentic. One of the finest taco joints I have ever been to, including some in Mexico. Get tacos de carnitas and some orchata and see what good Mexican soul food really tastes like. There's one in Woodburn too with a much larger dining room but owned by the same people and serving the same food. This place is worth driving an hour for!
(5)Joseph O.
Really amazing Mexican food. Authentic, and a panaderia (bakery) to boot.
(4)Jeannie A.
Looks likea whole in the wall so you just might miss it driving down the road to Mt. Angel. I cannot believe I lived around the corner from this place for two years, driving by this place ALL THE TIME, and never stopped in. I thought it was a bakery and didn't even know they have all kinds of Mexican Food and great burritos. It's like stopping by your mama's house for some home cooking. Cozy.I've lived in San Francisco's Mission District so I get picky about quality Mexican Food. I finally tried this place when I went back to visit during the holidays. This little place is a rare gem! I regret all the times I drove to Salem when Los Girasoles was right there. I would have been there all the time! Great menu and a panaderia as well with friendly service. I think they even had tamales here. Don't pass this one up!
(5)Dawn D.
Excellent! The burritos are huge and stuffed full of goodness. The chicken was full of flavor. This place is a gem, we only wish we lived closer to Silverton. The apple empanada pastries are delicious too. They have a giant pastry selection and everything is cheap - great value! And the staff is super friendly. Love this place!
