first of all this establishment has been around at this location for quite some time. it's a very well run establishment from the kitchen to have your food served. not too many places do Dutch baby pancakes anymore but the ones here are really great . very nice place to eat and super clean this is the epitome of a nice old diner for breakfast

It was fine. Just fine. The blueberry pancakes were absolutely FRESH and the coffee actually tasted pretty good. The BACON was also good. Too bad the corned beef hash was SO-SO and the french toast was outright BLAH. It was more like two slices of bread (no seasoning) plopped on a lukewarm stove. Why did I pay for this? Well, THAT''s what you get for coming to the Original Pancake House and ordering anything but pancakes. But the menu was a bit PRICEY to me. The best deal is under the egg / other specialties. Look there first! Because a STACK of pancakes accompany your plate as well as maybe some protein. BEWARE! You probably should split this (someone eats the cakes and someone eats the eggs, duh) for the best VALUE if you dare.

Not a fan... I've been here twice now and neither experience was that great. The first time it was PACKED and slow, which is whatever. I've worked in restaurants so I know how hectic things can get when it's that busy. Chalked it up to 'whatever' and gave it another shot about a year later. This was also a crap experience. Not impressed with their menu... The pancakes and home made whip cream were great(hence the 2 star rating instead of 1) but that's about it. They don't have a single omelette that has veggies, unless you want the vegetarian. I had eggs benedict which was mediocre at best... and they don't have any of the normal breakfast combinations you'd think of when you think of breakfast. Our waitress made things incredibly awkward as well. We asked what was good before we ordered and she went on for probably 2-3 minutes first saying she didn't know, then everything was great, then wanted to tell us about EVERYTHING on the menu. It was too much. When our food came, my boyfriend's (side of) bacon (he had to order separately) was burned. Not just a little crispy, but damn near ashes. Not her fault and to be honest we probably wouldn't have even mentioned it... She actually pointed out how burned it was and again, wouldn't shut up about it. When she brought his other plate, she left fingerprints of something else she had on her hands and immediately began apologizing profusely about how she washed her hands, wasn't her fault, cooks must have had something out, etc etc etc. Again, we likely wouldn't have even said anything to avoid this awkward, never ending conversation, but she brought it up RIGHT after setting the plate down. Not sure if she was new and nervous or what, but she noticed and pointed out more flaws than we did, yet never offered to correct any of them. Piss poor experience x2. Go spend your money somewhere else.

What's a great way to start off St. Paddy's Day? Have an Irish Omelet at The Original Pancake House, of course. Consisting of corned beef hash, fresh spinach, eggs, and nice gooey cheese, this omelet is a hearty breakfast. I opted for the hash browns (cubed up potatoes, not the greasy gratings that some other places use). Good portions of both. Added a decaf coffee (which was hot and never went dry). Great breakfast. Varnished wood interior walls and tables, dark green booths, and a creme-colored ceiling give the restaurant an open, airy, yet country-diner feel. The waitresses all wore 'uniforms', which added professionalism. My waitress was attentive, nice, and very sweet. The Original Pancake House is a nice alternative to some of the other breakfast restaurants.

The Original Pancake House is, IMHO, consistency the best American breakfast restaurant. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the Staff (friendliness, service, appearance), the food (delicious), the buildings, the landscape, the cleanliness of the kitchen (it sparkles!) and of the restrooms. The only downside is the wait -- we usually go to the South Commercial location in Salem after 1pm, when the line is much shorter. Five Stars, and I wish I could make it more.

The apple pancake is the obvious highlight here, and is reason enough to come. Worth the wait. Also, the sausage is great. Basically everything we normally get here is well done, but that giant pancake puts it all over the top.

This is a wonderful place to come and have breakfast. Great food and excellent service. My favorite is the ham and cheese omelet. Those hash browns are great too. My wife loves their pancakes. Come and enjoy. You won't be sorry.

Expensive as all hell, and no normal combo breakfasts. Want sausage or Bacon with your eggs, you have to order it separately. I can't see myself spending tons of money on simple things like breakfast. I'll be going to Word of Mouth instead, where I know I am getting amazing quality and taste for about the same price.

Breakfast is my favorite meal and you can't go wrong here. I am very picky about my eggs and they were cooked to order. The pancakes are great too. I highly recommend the Continental Crepe as a 1/2 order. I had never had one like this before and it was amazing. Friendly staff and prompt service, clean quaint environment. The sausage is made in house and was fantastic! We went back on Mother's Day and although very busy it was still a great experience.

You cannot come to Oregon without stopping here. It's just not possible. The food is always good but service is always slow. So as long as you have the time, then it's definitely worth the wait. The sausages are huge and the Dutch baby is to die for.

Very poor service . waitress was rude. She had a very bad attitude in the carriage and showed in her work I will never eat at this place ever again. Omelette was overcooked charged extra for hash browns and the pancakes with nowhere worth making the stop. You can get better food at Denny's or IHOP and pay less the Price.

Most rediculus prices! 2.00 for a 12 oz can of soda! 3.75 over the overpriced of the 12.00 omelet. Don't waste your money

Thoroughly enjoy their pancakes. They are made (I believe) with a yeast base instead of a baking soda / powder rising method. This means a different flavor and texture. The coffee is also top notch, strong and dark. One time I tried the veggie omelet, which is really large and tasty, with fresh veggies and melted swiss baked in.

The Original Pancake House is all about high quality food in a family-like environment. It's all about the pancakes too. There are some other options, eggs, bacon, toast, some off sides and stuff, but really, you're here for the pancakes. I particularly love the Dutch Baby. This huge dinner plate of a pancake is baked special and comes up like a little floaty cake almost dusted with powdered sugar, rather than a flapjack. It's huge, though, and I can generally get through only about half of it. They don't serve sodas here, only coffee, tea, and a variety of juices and milk. Which kind of sucks, but okay. I grew up in the south, and drinking coke at breakfast was just the thing you did. Dammit. But still, the food here is really good, though it can be a little pricey, especially considering that most everything is ordered a la carte. But that's just the way things go.

I do not normally critique restaurants so harshly, but I feel as if I need to write a review about my experience here. My friend and I decided to go out to breakfast to chat and catch up, and we were very excited to try out this restaurant, because neither of us had never been there before. We arrived and were seated quickly and were handed menus. I commented on how cute the uniforms were, and I loved the look of the restaurant. We were greeted by two or three different waitresses, offering us drinks and asked if we were ready to order. The customer service was great at first, but as our morning went on, it wasn't so good. We ordered our food, though it took us quite a few minutes to decide. We weren't familiar their menu, being that there was no real combinations that we have gotten accustomed to eating at other restaurants. The food came fast, but I wish it hadn't. I ordered some pancakes, eggs and Canadian bacon. Two out of the three pancakes clearly weren't cooked all the way through, so I asked for another pancake. (I absolutely hate doing that. I am an easy person to please, so it surprised me that I didn't appreciate the food.) My waitress brought out another one, and that was not cooked all the way through either. I didn't make a fuss about it, though. My friend had commented about her bacon being dry, and that her eggs weren't great either. She described her eggs as being "soggy" and "disgusting." Maybe we are picky about our food, but we had high hopes for this restaurant. We both spent $10.50 on each of our meals. After our meals were brought out, our waitress came to our table one time. We left without paying tip. I strongly believe in great customer service, and I 99% of the time tip the server. But, sadly enough, I didn't have it in me. It was not a good experience. I told my friend that I am willing to come back to give it a second chance. She commented, "I'd rather go to Denny's."

.89 can of hash with two eggs and three 4" pancakes with a cup of coffee( me) partner two eggs scrambled with three if the same .39 cent cakes. And coffee... Bill- $27.45 with cheap $3 tip.. I guess I didn't learn my lesson the last time I ate there. Not worth it.. Sorry I have had so much better with way better value elsewhere.

Pretty disappointed with the Original Pancake House. Food wasn't bad but, wasn't good either; bland, no real flavor. Reminded me of Cafeteria food. I had the Ham, Egg, & Potatoes and my friend had the Crepes; the Eggs were bland, the Potatoes were a soggy mess, and the Crepes were unfilled, just some strawberries and whip creme on top. The place gets pretty busy so maybe we just had a bad experience? Guess I'll never know.

Spring is here and that means The Original Pancake House will start selling their berries and whipped cream topped delicacies again. My mother and I had breakfast here today and saw that they had fresh strawberries. Since sometimes the batches they get in can be hit or miss until the local farms start producing, we always ask our waitress "How are the berries today?" and get an honest answer. Sometimes the batch just isn't sweet or they are too firm. Today was a good day, the berries were sweet and juicy. The whipped cream is always super rich and homemade, with just a hint of powdered sugar or some magical ingredient that makes it infinitely better than what I could make on my own. I'm very happy it's Spring =)

I ate at the Redmond, Oregon location once so I knew what I was getting in to. It's been a few years since I've ate at TOPH. I was in Salem the other morning and decided to come here as I felt like a "real" breakfast but didn't want the blandness of Shari's and IHOP and I didn't mcdonalds. This little chain (yes folks. It is a chain ) is pretty good as far as breakfast/brunch places go and it's just that. They only serve breakfast items for the morning and early afternoon crowd as they close around 2pm. Their speciality is pancakes, but they serve other great items as well. I just had your standard sausage, egg and potatoes with a glass of orange juice. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and I did get a couple of seeds in it. I won't be jerk and ding them on that as it is what it is, and that the waitress did warn me that there may be a seed or two it. It's the price you pay for freshly squeezed juice. The potatoes were the best thing besides the juice in my opinion. Instead of your typical frozen shredded hash browns you get elsewhere, you get potatoes that taste like they cut up in house and fry them on the pan with skins and all. Add a dash of salt and you have some real good breakfast potatoes. Nice and soft too but still hot. If you want a good breakfast to feed your family, your self or a place to come with your significant other then come here.
