My friend and I split the Mango Chicken med spice. So good!! The customer service was better this time. Last time we were in we sat our selves down without waiting for the server to seat us and it was horrible! They ignored us and when I said something to the owner she said it was our own fault for not waiting to be sat down. To say the least I have not been back for a while!! But we do like the food.

This place was bad. Cold food. Peanut sauce was gross. Will not eat there again.

Nothing is super impressive about this place in regards to decor, food, or service. My visits there have all be "blah" at best. The prices were decent, which prompted multiple visits for low key lunches and boring dinners. Service could've been better, but it seems the waitresses aren't all that enthusiastic about delivering good service. Aside from the food, but more to do with the name, their actual Thai beer selection is good with solid prices. However, this is not a place that is emphasized on its drinks, but more of the (so-so) Thai experience.

I love this place for take-out, but the service lacks something terribly. Sometimes you get good service most of the times you just want to take your food and get the hell outta there. Lol it's not quite THAT bad, but close.
(3)Andrew D.
Overall, the food is okay, nothing special other than the curry being the highlight. The portions were generous for the price, and the food was ready quickly. In particular, if you love Pad Thai, this isn't the place to order it as it will likely not taste anything like Pad Thai you've had and enjoyed before from other restaurants. It tastes much more like an orange sauce than a peanut sauce...not good.

We mostly order the pineapple fried rice and thai tea, which are both really good. I haven't had good luck venturing into other menu items, though. The service is very hit and miss, too.

I love this place. Always fast, friendly service. Food is always flavorful and plenty. They have many gluten free and Paleo diet dishes.

In a city where most Asian restaurants are hopelessly stuck in the gaudy red-and-gold decor and oily chow mein days of the 60s and 70s, Thai Beer stands virtually alone. It's not perfect, and it's not quite Portland - the dishes can be greasy and a little underspiced on occasion, and I'd advise potential customers to steer way, way clear of the gloppy Rad Na - but unlike other Asian restaurants in Salem, Thai Beer offers its small-town customers something fresh and unique rather than coddling them with the usual heavily-MSGd comfort food. Aside from the aforementioned Rad Na, virtually everything on the menu will satisfy. My dad prefers the salads, probably because they're the most challenging items on the menu, flavor-wise; the fishy, piquant aroma drifting off the larb and papaya salad might turn off some diners, but it is easy to develop a taste for both. Save room for dessert - the homemade black rice pudding and coconut ice cream are a treat, and the fried bananas with Hershey syrup taste and smell like the Thai equivalent of a county fair. Hopefully the continued success of Thai Beer will encourage other restaurateurs to open modern and authentic Asian restaurants in Salem. Recession be damned; if the restaurant boom of the past few years is any indication, Salemites are learning to expect quality and culinary novelty rather than comforting familiarity when they go out to eat. So far Asian cuisine has largely been left out of the mix, but the popularity of Thai Beer should be proof enough that a good East Asian restaurant can make it in this town.

Food was good and good service. At first it seemed over priced but then it makes sense with the size of portions. Nothing too fancy in terms of decoration but an Ok "Thai" place to have dinner.
(3)Chris D.
Ok food but not great. Bathrooms are a little scary. Could be cleaner.service was good tho.
(1)Lily L.
3 stars for the thai iced tea. It is as authentic as it can get. I been here a couple times. It is not that great. Customer service is lacking. Pretty slow service and food cooking. Bathrooms could use lots of remodeling and cleaning. The fried rice is delicious and to die for! It actually tastes like how it is suppose to. I had the fried tofu once. OMG.. never again will I order it. The tofu had a sour taste.., So if you can find the right dish, it is good, but chances are 80% are needing improvement.

When we started to go to Thai Beer it appeared to be good, as time has passed and our flavor pallets have gotten better, this place is now a pass. If you like large portions and extra oil on your food then this is the place for you. The flavor of the food was totally lost. This shouldn't be the case when ordering Thai food, it should be flavorful and hot. Not bland. Like I said this place is a pass.
(1)Danielle M.
Delicious and fresh. Service is friendly just a challenge to communicate with.
(4)Mel L.
Good food but HORRIBLE service. When I asked the waiter for a pot of tea his reply was "I am too busy". They have also done things like forget to bring out parts of our order.

Yet another of my go-to take-out hot-spots. If I have a cold, or clogged sinuses, I will have the chicken Tom Yum soup, extra spicy. This is almost good enough to be sold on the cold 'n flu isle of your local grocery mart as a remedy. Mother's chicken soup be damned, this is a knock out. Also topping my list of delicious eats is the #25: a mixture of ground chicken, peppers, onions, and super secret spices. I will grab a large bowl, fill it with rice, and pour the concoction over the top. It is most excellent this way. 90% of the time I do take-out, as Thai Beer is notorious for rather awful table service. I do not know why this is, but it is something that has just been a fact of life for the last 10 years or so. If you do choose to stay for a sit-down, the restaurant is average sized and the décor is nothing to call home about, but they both get the job done. The area is clean, tidy, and tables are cleaned up without too much of a wait after the seated have left. Counter service is pretty fast, and I'd say that the majority of sales are take-out, judging from the constant flow of orders picked up. Of the two locations, one on Lancaster Drive and the other in West Salem, I'd say visit the one on Lancaster first. I've never really tasted a huge difference between either, but I like the physical property of Lancaster more. If I were rating the food alone it would get 4 stars. But a combination of all factors leads me to tag it as a 3.

I'm no Thai food expert, so maybe other reviewers are better qualified to rate this place, but I really like it! Sure, I've only eaten the panang curry and fried rice, but I LOVE it. It's so fresh and light--I don't ever leave the restaurant feeling gross and weighed down. Yum!
(3)Mandy A.
This is my go-to Thai place! The service isn't the greatest but it isn't the worst either... Consistently great thai food at a decent price. 《Skip the pad thai!》 Wear your stretchy pants!!!
(4)Lewis Marklin M.
Now, first of all I will say that the food was excellent, I had the yellow Cury and me mum had the pad Thai and we started out with some wonderful egg rolls and pot stickers but the atmosphere was a bit depressing. The waitress never smiled at us and we were the only customers in there on a Thursday night at 5:30 but the guy was friendly enough. Eventually two more couples came in and I noticed she did not smile at them either. I don't know if this is the owner or not but your business is your choice so either dive in and protect your investment by doing some smiling or this place will go out of business. Food is very yummy though so my compliments to the chef.
(3)Neko K.
The owner appeared to be yelling at her employees for trying to get us something close to what we ordered since they were out. The wait staff alternated between cleaning the floor and delivering food to tables WITHOUT HAND WASHING in between. The owner saw this repeated over and over and did not correct this health code violation. Quality of food immaterial. I will not return.

Fast service, tasty food. Im not a fan of the entire menu, but the Pad See Ew, holy smokes. I LOVE it. I dont do spicy very well. But I really do like a majority of thai food, so I have a pretty good working knowledge of what tastes good. I like the potstickers too, and i love potstickers :) Little on the spendier side, compared to the city average, but its still really good. Worth a try in my opinion :)

I travel a lot for work and love to try local places. My clients recommended Thai Beer and it was a great call. The Thai Cashew Nut was very tasty, and ordering it extra hot was spot on. This place is on par with the That restaurants I frequent in other cities and back home in CA.
(4)D R.
I ordered pad thai to go. It was a fairly large amount of food, but not very good.
(2)Joe W.
The servers are extremely confused and do not pay attention at all when you order. We sat in our booth for almost 5 minutes before even getting greeted and after that they forgot the soda I ordered when they brought our water out. The dude was too worried about combing his hair and putting it in a pony tail before we ordered. Second time I have had this experience with him. Feels extremely put out to do his job.

Well, I just had the worst Thai food I've ever eaten. None of the dishes had any flavor! Even the peanut sauce was like tasteless gravey. My husband's shrimp fried rice only had 3 shrimp in the whole order, and the chicken in my "Thai Beer special noodles" seemed like it had been boiled without even bothering with salt. The noodles were a gelatinous mess. Never going back again.
(1)Zy X.
This place has by far the worst Thai food I've ever eaten! Even I make better Thai dishes at home! The noodles in my pad thai order were not fully cooked, so they were a bit hard. In addition, the peanut sauce was watered down! I ate at this place prior to Yelping. And, I must say to learn that even non-Asian people disliking the food says a lot! Only pros was that the place was clean- or at least when I was there.

Mediocre Thai food, and oily, too, complimented with spotty service. This restaurant's sole strength is its beer selection, which includes a couple of good Oregon microbrews in addition to the great Singha. In a Thai restaurant, even a small selection of decent beers is unusual. I'd have given Thai Beer the benefit of a doubt and rated it three stars except that I visited the restroom. The restaurant is in a mall of fairly recent construction, but the restroom looked like it was located in a dive, in a Nineteenth Century building, in old town. Broken, dirty toilet seat. White walls turned dark with dirty hand prints around every lever, knob and opening. Rust at the bottom of the door casing. When I see that in an area open to the public, I wonder what the kitchen looks like.

Ate here for the first time on July 21st, 2011. The restaurant is shoddy in appearance, the tables are pitted, crooked and wobbly. The seat cushions are in desperate need of reupholstering, and the artwork on the walls looks like it hasn't seen a dust rag in months. We were seated upon arrival and given a scant 2 minutes to look at the menu before we were asked to order. We ordered some appetizers and our drinks but asked the server to come back in a few minutes. She scarcely left when she came back and asked if we were ready to order. We explained we were not, and she huffed away. Two minutes later, there she was again with pad in hand, hovering over our table. We ordered and she skitted away. Our appetizers arrived and they were okay, not great, but not totally awful. Our meals arrived about 3 minutes later. Which leaves me to think that they have most of the meals pre- made and simply dish it up. I had what can only be described as a soup but I had ordered a meal. There was so much sauce on the meal that it was overflowing onto the table. I had not ordered a vegetarian, but it took me several stabs at the soupy concoction to find the three pieces of beef they tossed in. The sauce was too sweet and overpowered everything in the mix. My dining companions had similar dishes and theirs were also over sauced. The portions were so large that we had to take most of it home. I left mine because I didn't want sweet veggies the next day. However, we had to wait about 15 minutes for the server to come back to our table to ask us if we wanted boxes. We were clearly finished as we had moved our plates to the center of the table. When the server came back we asked for our boxes and she disappeared....10 minutes the hostess came by with our check and asked us if we wanted boxes, We again asked for boxes and she left to return with them. We packaged our remaining meals and paid our overpriced tab for this meal. Having never eaten here before, I was appalled by the appearance, the food and the service. If you want Thai food in Salem, save yourself the headache and go somewhere else...ANYWHERE else!

Food and service were likely the worst we have ever encountered. 1. The table we were seated at was wobbly. Seriously wobbly. Decor was dated and peculiar. 2. It took at least 10 minutes to order drinks. Our waiter (Alex) seemed bored and perhaps socially awkward. We had to flag him down to order and he never checked on us after we received our food. 3. We ordered four dishes. They came out in rapid speed - this was weird - as if they had everything pre-made and just warmed the food up when ordered. The dishes ranged from mediocre to downright disgusting. Pad Thai was sans limes and peanuts. More importantly is was a weird pink color - looked completely unappetizing and tasted sickly. Nam Kao Tod Salad was advertised as including crispy rice - there was nothing crispy about this dish - instead it had the texture of paste. Lemongrass chicken consisted of iceberg lettuce with plain chicken smothered (seriously smothered) in peanut sauce. It looked disgusting and tasted worse. Interestingly, there was no lemongrass on the dish and not a hint of lemongrass flavor. When we asked Alex (our waiter) if he brought us the right dish as there was an absence of lemongrass he said "we marinate the chicken in lemongrass and then WASH IT OFF." We were dumbfounded by this remark and stared incredulously. He then stated "I know because I've seen them make it" and walked away abruptly. WTF??? If you want good Asian food head over to Super Pho or Lan Xang. We have yet to have a bad meal at either of these places.

Can't believe I was lucky enough to have a Thai place right next to me since I love Thai food and could eat it everyday. Unfortunately, the food and service is lacking. On the food front, I had the Chicken Pad Thai which is hard to really screw up but it was awful. The service was almost as bad. I had to stare at the waiter for quite awhile every time I needed a refill, to order, or the check. They were just standing around oblivious to the customers.

It is ok. The Curry (Panang or Green) is pretty good. The Pad Thai is a 2.5 star at best, it has a weird pink tint almost like it has ketchup in it or something. Fresh rolls are not very good. I guess it is ok, in a little strip mall in the WinCo parking lot. Not super cheap either. Stick with the Curry or some of the soups...I would not get the Pad Thai again
(3)Jack B.
Obviously this place changed hands since the last time I was there. The portions were smaller. The staff was confused and got our order mixed up. The food was mediocre at best and went from having the best Pad Kee Mow around to being something that I wouldn't order at a restaurant that I won't ever patronize again. My shadow shall never darken their door again.

Located in the same complex as Shopko, Waremart and Shari's Restaurant, Thai Beer offers tasty Thai food for a reasonable price. Their restaurant is nicely decorated and the staff are nice. They have a good selection of menu items as well as drinks like Thai ice tea and coffee. Worth a visit if you're in the mood for Thai cusine or looking for a place to try out in that part of town.

This shit is delicious and they hook it up fatty style. Super nice staff and perfect price

The place nice and clean.... Good selection on the menu. Our meal was excellent and good serving....

This is the second Thai restaurant I have tried in Salem with my Mom, and Sister. They were hoping I liked it here because they live in Salem. When they visit me in Eugene I take them to some pretty good places and this place couldn't touch any of them. The food wasn't bad, I am just spoiled I guess by our restaurants. I had the cashew chicken and was expecting something different. The veggies were basically raw and cut way too big for my for my liking. I almost ordered a whole new plate of food! I took bites of my sons kee mo, phad Thai, and Thai basil, which all were better than my dish. I normally would not order phad Thai because it's just too traditional and I like more flavor but this one wasn't bad as long as you add the peanut sauce to it. I might go back when visiting my Mom and sister, unless they find a better place as long as I don't order the cashew chicken again. That dish is a no, no!!!
(3)Cheryl G.
I used to swear by these people, I especially love their chicken salad with lemongrass. I ordered it and when I opened it for dinner I it was an entree of chicken with some vegetables. I called. The attitude was not customer friendly, more that they don't make a lemongrass chicken salad so I got the lemongrass chicken entree. It was clear, there was no way they were going to try to work with me. Thankfully, there are plenty of great Thai restaurants in Salem.

Excellent food. I recommend the coconut soup and the evil jungle prince red curry. Not quite up to 5 stars.

I would go to Tin Tin over this, and that is sad.
