Love everything here!!! I ate 10 plates myself when I went. People that complain about it not being good because it's different from what they ate in Japan is silly. Of course foods in the native land are better. To me, this place is affordable, fast, and convenient. Give it a try! My favorite is the seared salmon and seaweed salad :)!

This restaurant has an interesting concept, they have a rotating buffet of sushi selections and other things like spring rolls and desserts on this conveyor belt that moves past people's tables. You simply pick up what you want. The colour of the plate determines the price, and those are listed on the wall. You have a menu with pictures that tells you what you are looking at. The sushi itself is ok, it's not great, or very fresh tasting. Our total bill for two people was only $20 and we had about 6 plates we used, so for an immediate lunch, that is on the cheap, and if you're in a hurry this might be a good place for you.

The sushi is adequate, and the train is fun especially for hungry kids. There are lots of options on the train but we usually order rolls made fresh as well. The prices are reasonable. The restaurant seems clean.

Come here for the Salem Roll! You will not regret it. My brother took me to this place while I was in town visiting and I have to say that I was impressed. The place was clean, the sevice was great, and the selection of sushi on the conveyor built was good. The Salem Roll is hot and crunchy on the outside and is a special order, but comes out quick. My only complaint is that my edamame was a bit on the cold side so minus a star for that. Would highly recommend this place.

Good sushi for an awesome price. Great for takeout. If you have time, eat in from the conveyor belt. I was a regular here when I lived in Salem.

Was taken to dinner for my birthday because I love sushi and I have mentioned it more than once over the last few weeks. It is sushi on a conveyor belt, so there really is not much to the ambiance, but the food has always been good and consistent. I have my favorites and there are never enough on the belt, I could order a hole one but that would take the fun and challenge out of it. This trip we managed to score a seat at the counter on the side where the sushi travels first, so I had better odds and that made me very happy. I was surprised to hear the server talking to someone in the booth nearest us when the customer said that they were really anti anything from the ocean...REALLY?!? Why are you in a sushi restaurant? I guess that is a warning that there really isn't anything else on the menu (unless you count the chocolate mousse cake, and the cheesecake that appears every now and then on the conveyor belt). If you don't like sushi, or fish in general, this may not be the restaurant for you.

This place is awesome service was pretty good but we didnt need much. Good selection and the revolving bar never got empty. If you havent been or are hesitant you should definitely come in.

I am a HUGE sushi fan and I know one thing for sure, a sushi dinner should leave you feeling satisfied, not disgusted. The fish was very low quality. The salmon looked unusually pale and the texture was off. It did not taste or look like sushi grade fish in the slightest. There were even gray light streaks on pieces of the salmon nigiri. The avocado in my avocado roll was not ripe or chewable. How is this acceptable to serve? I would much rather have someone inform me they are out of avocado then charge me for something I can't even eat. I am really surprised that this place got such positive reviews. I've heard that some days their fish is fresher than others but this was just bad. The rice was also lacking its usual refreshing quality, it seemed very dense and flavorless. Perhaps this is just a lesson to not eat sushi in Salem. Ewwwwwwww. Perhaps due to Salem's overall lacking cuisine, residents are desperate and have a skewed view of what's actually good. I wouldn't even call this sushi decent, it was bad. I would recommend sticking to the non-raw fish rolls if you come here. On the bright side this experience has murdered my regularly occurring sushi craving, which might end up saving me some money in the long run.

One word, "love!" I'm a frequent returning customer also my parents. We love it here. The food is amazing, but some of the servers, they have ignore you. I asked for a drink, the guy didn't bring it until 15 minutes later. It wasn't even busy at all. It was just two customers. He was just chatting and doing his own thing. Other than that, everything is awesome. Also their 11-4 happy hour sushi is great! Lunch hour doesn't get over crowded, even if it does, fast service still for your food.

Let me just say that I know and have eaten more sushi than 99.9% of Americans. I have eaten at many Michelin starred sushi places in Tokyo and all over Japan as well as eaten many times in Tsukiji fish market, which by the way, is not all that great of a place to eat sushi, but anyway, I just wanted to give you my credentials so that you know where I'm coming from. There are 3 very important factors to making a good sushi: 1) Sushi Rice, probably the MOST important factor. 2) Neta, or whatever goes on the sushi, such as fish, fish eggs, etc. 3) Skill of the sushi chef Only when you have a harmony of these 3 ingredients you end up with proper sushi, otherwise it becomes a pseudo sushi made by sushi chef wannabes, and such was the case here. Rice was not a proper, vinegared, flavored sushi rice. At this point, it is no longer a "sushi". Most of the plates rotating on the conveyor belt were rolls, and funky rolls with mayo, yum yum sauce, etc, which are very unauthentic, but that's besides the point, few that came around such as salmon, grilled salmon were of mediocre at best ingredient. Lastly, nigiri (which means to "grip") was way too tight, rolls were rolled like a rock. Proper sushi in form of nigiri or roll has to have enough air to fall apart in your mouth, and not have to chew. I believe that people have this misconception that sushi is slapping together some rice and raw fish. In reality, "proper" sushi chefs go through years of training and has complexity beyond most non-Japanese folks realize. This place had zero out of 3 necessarily ingredients for making a proper sushi. Some of you may say that you can't expect that in "kaiten sushi", which is a pretty common in Japan nowadays where plates of sushi rotate on a belt. Yet it is true that such sushi it NOT a traditional sushi-ya, many places in Japan serve very good sushi in such setting. For example, Kula sushi which has many restaurants in the L.A. area actually make pretty decent sushi in this kaiten sushi style. I would suggest some of you to try Kula when you are in the L.A. area, taste the rice, and see how nigiri falls apart in your mouth. Yes, some kaiten sushi places use robots to make rolls and nigiris but they make them so well nowadays that they can produce a proper sushi. And at last, sushi chefs aren't Japanese and it's always a bad sign...always.

Sushi was always a thing for my friends and I in college and this sushi place use to be a good place but I think overtime it got to comfortable and quality changed. The issues from experience was we were hardly approached for more service and the quality was not very great. I understand that when it's busy that every customer needs attention, but when we arrived there was only another couple there. We had to get up and walk to someone to ask for help. A good server would be attentive and able to tell when a customer needs something. Servers should also not all being eating their lunch at the same time while customers are present because there is no one to help. As they sat and ate their food a friend of mine tried to get one of their attention but they LITERALLY looked away and continued to talk and eat. No matter how busy or slow a business is I believe a customer should see that their server really wants to be there. On top of their service is their quality of food. I love mussels and when ever I show up to sushi Kyo they are always cold. When I try to ask for a fresh and hot mussel, the server would walk around the belt and just pick another cold one. I still would consider eating here, but I'm always considering something else before I make that choice. If you are wanting sushi try it but don't expect high quality. If you are a sushi kyo business owner please consider some changes to your policies.

This was my first experience in "train" style sushi, and being a train engineer, I thought it to be a good one. The sushi came out fresh every minute or so and there was lots of different offerings to be had. The service was also excellent and they constantly checked on me knowing I had never been to a conveyor belt sushi place to make sure I didn't have any concerns or if I wanted them to make me a roll that wasn't on the belt. Overall, I had a great experience and my sushi meal was much cheaper than going to a normal place and I got to try a much better variety for a cheaper price. I can't wait to come back.

I would beware of this place during off hours. My wife and I had gone down to a tapas place earlier for drinks and appetizers but we were craving a bit of sushi. So around 8:30pm we arrive at Sushi Kyo. Our waiter recommended this place to us so we decided to give it a go. I'm not going to lie because when I saw the conveyor belt I wanted to run after having a bad experience at a sushi place with a conveyor in CA. We did go in and got seated quickly. My first few plates were good but I made sure to grab cooked items. Then my love for ahi tuna overcame me and I decided to grab a raw roll. My first bite and it was obvious that the tune had been on the belt for awhile as it was lukewarm. At that point I was done as I had no wishes to get sick off of fish that had been left out too long. I never got sick but in no way was I going to risk it. The place was cheap for sushi and the cooked stuff was good but yeah I'll never go at an off time again.

Ate dinner here last night with the family. it's a very clean place with good sushi. my favorite is the salem roll! i tried the seared salmon there ,it was pretty tasty. if you can't see something on the conveyor then place an order and they will make it fresh and bring it to your table. just keep an eye on the little plates, before we knew it we had quite a hefty tab. lol as a pet peeve they offer soda by the can, i wish all restaurants would have a soda fountain.

This place seems like it is straight out of Japan. The sushi is good and consistent. The prices are very reasonable and the service is attentive.

My favorite conveyor sushi place in town, this place has a cheerful atmosphere, friendly staff, fast service, reasonable prices, and good sushi. There are maybe 2-3 places in town with slightly better stationary sushi (Momiji, Kyoto, possibly Fuji), but this place has the best sushi-in-motion! P.S. This is their new location - their original/older location on the east side of town on Rickey street is almost a carbon copy.

I have been 10 times in two weeks. I get the volcano roll, some cucumber salad, a miso, a random item, and a diet pepsi. I spend about 12 dollars. It is delish and the service is fast and the sushi is fresh. The place is clean and I never worry about getting sick from eating here. They also have a really nice glass of chardonnay for 3.95. On a side note, I saw one of the sushi chefs eating some chicken mc'nuggets from (you know where) and it made me giggle. Made me, for some reason, weirdly like him more.

My 5 year old's favorite place to be! The sushi is delicious! The staff is friendly! What more could you want? :)

I love this place for a quick bite to eat. The sushi always tastes fresh and the Salem roll is amazing.

By far the best sushi in Salem. I love the sushi here. Service is generally on point and very quick. This Sushi Kyo is much better than the one on Rickey St. The one on Rickey St. just doesn't taste as fresh and I have given them three shots, the rolls are generally smaller as well. The sushi is just awesome on the one on Commercial, the decor is a lot nicer as well at the one on Commercial. I love eating here and sometimes I go once a week. The fish always tastes great that is for sure. I love this place. Keep an eye out for the five dollar off coupons you get in junk mail to your mailbox. Great food plus five dollars off is awesome! P.S. order a Salem roll and don't forget to!

Conveyor belt sushi!? Sweetness!! It's like fast food sushi or like dim-sum sushi! First time at a sushi place like this, so it was quite an exciting experience. It was fun checking out all the pretty sushis rolling past us and trying to figure out which one we should try next (like picking out a chocolate from a box of assorted chocolates not knowing exactly what's in each one). This place is super super cheap ($1.25 to $2.35 per dish of 1-4 pieces of sushi) and has a good variety of stuff. Sushi tastes fresh and is decent. My favorite is the volcano roll. The staff is very friendly :) Not the best quality sushi, but very good in terms of being what I'd call, fast-food sushi. Presentation is alright and taste varies by the roll. Overall, I'm quite happy with this place considering the cheap price and uber quick sushi :) Another good place for "drunk sushi night".

My dad had a hankering for sushi so we came to Sushi Kyo thanks to Yelp. They offer a decent selection of sushi that rotates around a conveyer belt on plates of varying colors. The sushi will by no means blow your mind, but if you take it for what it is, you won't be disappointed.

This place is like an entertaining buffet that comes right around to your booth or bar seat! As a family we've eaten at this location and the one on Rickey many times. We always sit at the bar so we can watch the food being prepared. It's fun and very tasty! One may also order cooked food, like chicken yaki and cream cheese puffs, so if you're not a fan of sushi you won't starve.
(4)Dan H.
Amazing place to go and eat. I never leave with out being stuffed. The sushi is always fresh and the employees are always helpfull. Its also a bonus siting at the bar and watching them make the diffrent kinds of sushi.

I love this place! While I wouldn't go in expecting high end sushi, it's delicious for what it is. It's a good place to take people who aren't too into sushi or you're running on a budget. It's extremely cheap and fun to pull the food off the conveyer belts.
(4)Summer R.
It's fine. It's not great, not bad, just fine. I've been here a couple of times and the food is consistent and reliable. It's a good place to take people who aren't too in to sushi. If you know a lot about sushi or have experienced great sushi in your life you might be disappointed when you go here.
